Here’s another photo from the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens shoot. This plant was located just outside the big bird aviary near the garden entrance. It had an amazing root system as well, heaps of little tubular roots running everywhere underneath.

Shaved Palm Tree

*sigh*. It seems every time I think I’ll be able to catch up and do some regular posting, something else comes up. This time I’ve been working at a web design studio (almost-anything.com.au) in Rockhampton. I had to catch the bus into Rocky 4 days last week, and I’m working this week as well.

Anyway while at the Botanical Gardens in Rocky for lunch on Saturday, I noticed this really strange pruning job on the palm trees near the entrance. Had to overexpose the sky to make sure the palm tree came out the right brightness though. There’ll be some more photos from the Gardens later on when I get some time to post them, managed to find some really interesting subjects :-).

Our Horse

Ok, this is a full pic of our horse Diamond. Yes I know the background desaturation is obvious, but I quite like the effect it gives.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention that she is an Appaloosa mare (hence the unusual markings), about 13 years old.

Horse Legs

I thought I’d tease everyone with a photo of the new horses’ legs before I put up a proper one :-). BTW if the brightness looks off on any of my recent photos it’s because of my new laptop which makes it a bit hard to tell (side effect of LCD screens).

Turkey (the bird, not the country)

I think all you readers deserve something interesting after my erratic posting. I’ve been working obsessively on my first Uni assignment and submitted it today, so I should have some time to myself before the next one rolls around.

Anyway this photo was taken at a farm located in a little locality called Struck Oil, which is just near Mt Morgan and Bouldercombe. Struck Oil sits right on top of the Mt Morgan range, so we had a steep and winding drive to get up there from the Bouldercombe direction. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself though.

My sisters (all below 13) have always wanted a horse, but recently they started looking seriously. They found one in the Handy Trader that sounded good, so we arranged to go and see the horse. By this time we were pretty committed to buying it, so that’s exactly what happened.

While the lady was showing my sisters the horse and stuff, I took a few photos of the many animals walking around. This turkey was amazing, he had a strange deep call that seemed to roll around inside him like an echo or vibration. You really have to hear it to understand properly. This is my favourite shot of him.

By the way, the horse, who is called Diamond or Diamontina, was delivered to us this afternoon. I should have some photos up of her in a few days.

Palm Fronds

I really like photographing palm trees and their fronds, there’s just such a variety of ways I can do it.

This photo was from this morning, went and did a spot of photography when I woke up before it started raining. I’ll have a few more to post for this week.

Grave Flowers

I dug this photo up from the archives. The photo was taken in the early morning likely a few days after our Devon Rex cat died (we now have two new ones though + 4 kittens). I’m really pleased with how well the dew drops and soft morning light have enhanced the image.

The cross has “Rest in Peace” written on it.

Backyard Bonfire

This afternoon we lit up a big bonfire full of tree branches and roots. It had been sitting there for a long time (Lantana growing all over it) so it’s good to see it go.

PS I realise this shot isn’t very artistic, will try to have something more interesting up soon.

This is a pic taken on Farborough beach last Saturday. I probably overdid the Vignette a bit but its only iPhoto generated so have to expect that :-).
