Wanted to post something stark and simple for a change - this is our driveway at dusk. I used Dad’s big tripod to get the up-high view.

Pregnant Cat

Our cat is pregnant once again (after this lot of kittens we’re getting her spayed), and a few afternoons back I snapped this photo of her sitting on the boardwalk from the house to the shed.

I had to lie down flat on the ground to get a good angle but I think it was worth it. What do you reckon?

Dry Shadows

It hasn’t rained for months and months in our area. I wanted to show how dry everything was, so I took the camera down to a nearby drain to take some photos. It’s always hard choosing one shot out of many - this particular one is the closest to what I was trying to get though.

I thought about converting this to B&W but decided the rich brown colours were too nice :).

The only adjustments were some slight cropping and fine-tuning the curves.

Basketball Hoop

This is our never-used basketball hoop, installed as a requirement one year for HPE schoolwork. The vignetting is possibly a little excessive, but I do like that effect.

Adelaide Park Valley (Panorama)

I’m a bit hesitant popping a panorama in here, I know it really disrupts the layout of the photoblog (at least on my 1280px wide screen).

This is the Adelaide Park Valley which we live in. The homestead you can see is the actual “Adelaide Park”, or at least it used to be.

Bunch of Red Flowers

Took this picture just outside our house. I probably should have been more careful with my curves adjustment seeing the red is a little blown out in some places.

Edit: The noticeable sharpness is a result of the Bicubic Sharper setting I used in Photoshop to scale the image. Not sure whether it’s better than just using the default Bicubic or not.

Metal Spring

I named this photo Metal Spring for want of the proper name for this. It’s one of those springy springs that are supposed to be able to jump down stairs (but never do). Thanks to @heathc on Twitter, it’s a slinky. How could I forget!

Anyway this is the 2nd photo on here with my 40D, took hundreds yesterday because it’s been my first proper chance to play around with it. I might post a variation on this shot when I’ve gone through all the rest of the photos I want to post :).

Guinea Fowl Takeoff

Last week I bought myself a Canon EOS 40D, which put simply is a Digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera. This is the first photo on Contrasting Sharply taken with the new camera, hopefully the first of many to come.

I took this shot in the early morning (before 7am anyway), just outside our house. There’s a small pagola on the way to the shed where our Guinea Fowls like to sit on to catch the early morning sun. I had to be mean and make them fly off to get this photo.

There’s been some post-processing applied, namely to make the top left corner much darker than it really was.

This photo was taken today on the way back from our Mt Hedlow climb. You may notice I cloned out the number plate as well :).

Kershaw Waterfall #2
