Question by : locks on bathroom doors?
Is it true that there is a law in Melbourne, Australia, that says you cannot have locks on bathroom doors in homes for safety reasons?

Best answer:

Answer by zafir
The law in Victoria, not just Melbourne, is that a bathroom door may have a lock providing that lock can be disabled from the outside for safety reasons eg if a small child locks itself in the bathroom this ensures someone can let the child out. There are specific locks for bathrooms which have a slot on the outside of the door handle fixture which can easily open the door with a knife or screwdriver. Alternatively, the bathroom door must be on hinges that allow the door to be lifted off easily.

Toilets must have either a door that opens outwards, or hinges that enable the door to be lifted off easily. This is to ensure easy access to a person who might have collapsed in the toilet and blocked the doorway.

I’ve had a quick look at the Building Commission regulations, but can’t be bothered trawling through it all to find the correct regulation. Any bathroom showroom, plumber, or hardware store will be able to confirm this for you.

Best answer:

Answer by thugmcbeef
I have a chill business here in chill part of Melbourne Chinatown. It is a dry cleaner. You want to be manager? You are chill.

PS: Yes sir, I undestand the chill. I think it is a good thing. My English is not native, so maybe that makes the confusion.

I had my son read this for me again. Sadly, I must staff this very soon. I thought you might be in Austrailia now, my son says you are not here yet. Sorry to get your hopes up. Best of luck in your travels sir.

I am doing an apprenticeship course for motor mechanic but im having second thoughts since a lot of people tell me there is no money to it. I am not tall and not well built aswell but i prefer to work as a tradie for the rest of my life since i dont want a boring desk job. any suggestions guys?

Best answer:

Answer by Mark G
Your best bet would be to get into the building trade in some way-carpenting, bricklaying, plastering or even taking a plumbing course. Always plenty of work in that line and some good rates of pay. Even better would be an apprentice electrician.

Question by Rasika S: Dispute gutter replacement?
Recently we repaired the gutters due to overflowing water through pipe one side corner and gather that water close to the foundation
So I asked that tradesmen to put a down pipe to that corner. But he didn’t agree with me he told me don’t need to put extra downpipes.
If you replace new color-bond gutter with down pipe, rain head and They can pack and level it. So I told him. If you can solve the problem I’m OK with it.
when the finished their work I paid them. But when it was raining, water came through overflowing pipe. So I inspected the gutter 5 hours after rain.
I saw Gutters retain a depth of more than 25mm of water.
I have told that they didn’t pack and level rafters as their quotation.
They have inspected the problem and ask me to pay more money to put another down pipe to the location I mentioned to them in the first place.
They could finished this job without putting new gutters and down pipe,rain-head. According to this situation they should put only extra down pipe.
Please advice me what are the actions I have taken against this tradesmen (They are roofing franchise people which is under Famous franchise company)
What are the plumbing standard for situation like this ?
My location Melbourne, Victoria

Best answer:

Answer by donnyv
It sounds like the fall they installed was not enough or the run was to far and they needed to have more drop lines for drainage. this uis a code violation , contact your local code enforcement agencys.

Answer by aemiee babbyy
just as likely, except indians (in india and australia) like to go on about it like theres no tomorrow and believe everything that happens to them is racially motivated. what they don’t realize is, that their (indian) media can’t control their mouths and exaggerate what really happens and attacks like this happen to a lot of people aussie or not, in australia or not.

Best answer:

Answer by Hellespont
To dispute this issue, you would probably have to look at the Trade Practices Act 1991 (Victoria) and refer to VCAT for all small claims. If you qualify for low income threshold, you may be able to obtain FREE legal advice from VCAT’s Advocacy department either by phoning them up or just going there into the city.

This is very much a civil issue and I don’t think the police nor the council will take any action. I couldn’t tell you what the plumbing standards are for your situation. They’re not Jim’s Roofing service or something like that?

Best answer:

Answer by sarah w
I know you said Melbourne but we just had the granny flat fuse box upgraded along with some other minor work done for $ 1500.
I would suggest you get a fixed quote and not told $ 120 an hour for example. You invite the go slow when you pay like that.
The plumber charged us heaps to fix the hot water.

Question by Rasika S: Gutters retain a depth of more than 25mm of water.?

Answer by Steven J
Possible reasons, dented gutters not allowing full drainage, or the roof or gutters are not level.

Inspecting the gutters witha ladder will show if it is dented.

A level will show if it is unlevel.

If either is the problem you got a lousy repair. I would call back the tradesman to fix it asap!
