So here I am at 2:08 am in Midland, TX bored out of my mind and laying uncomfortably on the floor of a Residents Inn. The time on this tour is slowly coming to a close as we are reaching the final two shows of the big leg of our winter 2012 tour. Many people don't get to follow their dreams and see them realized, so for me this has been a very special trip. I've seen so many new places. High rise cities and low flat plains. Deep, dense forests and desert as far as you can see. I can't tell if I've changed yet. I guess I'll see soon.

I am looking forward to home. My wonderful fiancé and my dogs and a place to call home once again. My wedding is soon and I need time to prepare. I need time to recuperate from the long rides in the van and the hotel room floors. I need time to get back on a sleeping schedule and adjust to my side of the bed. I need to ride my bike and take a run around East Nashville. I need these things again.

These past few weeks have been full of highs and lows but most importantly, lots of fun. My band Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes, have been on a cross country tour of the lower 48 States for around 3 weeks now and are currently held up in Seattle, WA after playing a show at Amazon MP3's headquarters. Tonight we are doing our second house show in Seattle for the people we are staying with and they are inviting a bunch of friends.

The tour itself has been a lot of fun but I've also never been on the road this long so there was definitely a huge adjustment period where I've had to learn how to basically be a nomad. Packing up my suitcase and getting in a van at 5am to drive 12 hours and end up at someone else's house whom you've never met and try and be nice. It's not easy to say the least, but I am forever grateful to the people who opened up their homes to us and have been so kind.

In two weeks we will be in LA and I will get to see my fiance again. Its such a relief knowing I will see her soon and that I won't have to wait another 4 weeks until I get back to Nashville to see her. I thought that the tour would put a huge strain on our relationship but at this point I don't think it has. I mean you get frustrated sometimes. Fed up with talking on the phone when all you want to do is just be there in that time with the person you love. It's easy to loose it. I have felt that our relationship can only benefit from this because it really is a "big test". Not of our love, but of the fabric of our relationship, and I can tell that it is strong.

One of the highs of this tour was on our day off in Denver we drove up to Boulder to go hiking. It was icy and rocky and the altitude was betting against us but we climbed and climbed until we reached the top of Royal Arch and it was pure bliss. Totally worth the pain.

Life Changes

Today marks the un-official end of my job at Vanderbilt Medical Center as I look forward to the next two months on the road with my band Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes. We are heading out next week and are traveling all across the country, from Bloomington, Indiana to Los Angeles, California. We've done all the booking, all the promotion and put a lot of hard work into this tour and I couldn't be more excited! Of course, there are things I'm worried about being that I will be on the road for 8 weeks, my fiance and my dogs and my life here in Nashville, but this is something we/I've needed to do for some time. I'm also a month into my new diet and going strong. I feel more energized and my mind is focused and clear all the time. I will be keeping a tour log and photo diary of the trip and will try and keep the blog updated as well as my facebook, although I can't promise that it will always be up to date. I hope that if you read this, you too may be inspired to change some things and your life and chase a dream you've had. Live on.

So it has been quite a while since I've posted anything about my life on here but I thought that since I'm trying something this big I'd better blog about it. My band is going on tour in January and I found myself wondering about my eating situation. It's obvious that while traveling, many people eat terribly and I didn't want to succumb to that lifestyle so I'm trying something new. VEGAN. Yes, I said it Vegan. I'm 4 days into it and I've already had my fair share of weak moments but I haven't given in yet! My body is clearly going through an adjustment period where I've experienced strong urges for meat and dairy and also felt weak and experienced loss of concentration. I'm not going to give up. I intend on living a better and healthier lifestyle and I understand the repercussions of changing my diet. I'll tell you that quitting smoking cigarettes was harder than this. So for anyone that has considered it or just considered an alternative diet I urge you to try it. You only live once so don't worry about what other people will say or think, just do it for yourself. Also, watch this Documentary Forks over Knives. It will change the way you look at the food you eat.

Ok, so's I gots this 35mm Pentax ME SLR camera with all these lenses and I've been trying desperately to get some good shots out of it! The first 2 rolls were duds, I mean absolutely nothing in terms of pictures. I figured out my problem and with some tweaking and some traveling I was able to start getting some good pictures! Now I've gotten somewhat handy with Photoshop CS4 over the past couple weeks and I've taken the liberty of sprucing up some of the photos, but I will include before and afters of what I do. Here is a little preview.

Hey Cyberspace,

Hangin here in 16 Ton Studio finishing up tracking for our new LP. No title yet because things have just recently picked up thanks to the addition of Avery Anderson on guitar. We have 3 songs pre-recorded and up on myspace but the new stuff is killer! We are looking to add way more to those old recordings plus a ton of new stuff, so stay tuned.
