I got all my cookie photos edited and have already pulled together 6 of the 14 blog posts I'm writing for the next 7 weeks. I think I'll get the rest done this weekend. Hurray! I've bought all the gifts I want to take to various people. I baked all the cookies I'm taking to the Ukrainians. I just need to decorate those on Monday. Cookie Graduation Cap (Tutorial)

You know me.....and 3D cookies. Love 'em! You'll need some chocolate cookie dough (or just color regular dough with black food color gel). For one grad cap, you'll need 3-ovals cookies and 1-diamond cookie slightly bigger than the ovals. With black 10-second glaze, "glue" the ovals and diamond together. Add a black button to the mortarboard. Then make a few tassel cookies (tutorial here) with bakers twine attached.....and you're ready to go! Graduation Cap Cookies (Tutorial)

There's plenty of graduation cap cutters out there that have become rather ordinary. I wanted to create a unique graduation cap that would be fairly simple for anyone to cut. I ordered my long rectangle from Ecrandal (it's 5" by 2") but you can get something similar at Plastics in Print or Cheep Cheap Cookie Cutters. Use a larger diamond cutter to to give the cap it's shape. And then just rolled a bit of dough into an oval and add to the top of the cap for a button. Easy peasy..... :) Outline and flood the bottom part (skull cap) in black 10-second glaze. Once it's dried for 30+ minutes, flood the "mortarboard". And finally, outline and flood the "button" on the top. And then to make them more authentic and much more interesting, add a tassel cookie...

My daughters surprised me with sweet notes of love.... I got flowers and a cute card. And my two sons that live far away called. I got to talked to Keith for 2 hours. Since I haven't talked to him most of the school semester..... we had the chance to catch up. And I get to see him at the end of July....so that was good news. I felt very loved that day and so appreciate all the things my kids did to make it that way. This week I finalized the Bible study for the Ukraine women's retreat. Hallelujah! How nice to have that completely...

Graduation Tassel Cookies (Tutorial)

There's lots of options when making tassel cookies. They can be made in any color needed. You can color the cookie dough or not. (Colored dough adds a little "pop" to the appearance.) For a 3D effect, you can roll the dough like a "snake" between your hands as shown below..... or use a long rectangle cutter or a tie cutter. Here's the 3D-look cookies. I pinched a neck towards the top to make it look like a tassel. Start off the decorating portion by making lines with 10-Second Glaze. Remember that glaze will run together if the lines touch.....so pipe them separate. This will require several layers. Here's the first layer. Second layer...... There is no need for a special cookie cutter to make an apron cookie. Just take a dress cutter and trim it to include a skirt apron or an overall apron. As far as design goes......the sky is the limit. That's the beauty of using random cutters and customizing them to your tastes. I did two very different collections this week. That was pushing the limits a bit, but I am working hard to get ahead for when I'm gone for a month. I tried using my dehydrator again this week to help speed up the drying process. I'm learning when I can and can't use it. Sadly, I can't flood cookies and put them directly in the dehydrator. They will collapse, for sure. :( However, if I let them sit for a while and THEN put them in the dehydrator, it works well. And it works REALLY well for using texture...

Flower Bouquet Cookies (Tutorial)

Oh how I love random bouquets of flowers.....a bunch you just hold in your hand. You can use a variety of cutters to make a flower bouquet cookie. A trimmed ice cream cone cutter is a perfect shape. Also......the diamond ring cutter works well. You'll need a nice leaf green 10-Second Glaze and then glaze in the colors of flowers you're interested in. Start adding lots of stems onto your cookie. Remember, when you use glaze, don't pipe lines touching each other because they will run together. So keep them separate. Allow them to dry for 30+ minutes, and then add more stems. I probably did at least four layers of stems. Once you have the stems looking the way you'd like, allow the cookie to dry thoroughly. Then start adding a variety flowers. I...

Even though I'm always itching to decorate..... I find it refreshing to focus on other things. Special Occasion Calendar Cookie (Tutorial)

Calendar cookies can be used for any special occasion.....birthday, graduation, wedding, baby shower, anniversary, real estate closing day, retirement, etc. These cookies only require a square cookie, white & light grey 10-second glaze, and a set of food color markers. Outline and flood the cookie with white glaze. Immediately add light gray calendar lines and small numbers in the corner. (The numbers will depend on the date you are trying to highlight.) Baskets of Cookie Flowers

Flowers are popular year round.......but they are especially popular in SPRING! And since Mother's Day is coming soon, it is the perfect cookie for the season. There are so many designs possible. And you don't have to have special cutters to make flower cookies (although there are TONS of flower cutters available). Try using a circle, rectangle, or tear drop. And if you color the dough......you just need to pipe an outline on the cookie. Scrub Top and Adhesive Bandage Cookies (Tutorial)

These scrub top and adhesive bandage cookies were part of a set of medical cookies I did for my sister's caregivers last year when she was very ill. For the bandages, I used a rectangular cutter and ounded off the corners of the cookie dough. Using a tan glaze, outline and flood a center square for the padded part of the bandage. Allow it to dry for 30 minutes or so. Outline and flood the entire cookie with the tan glaze. I did it two ways. In the middle cookie, I only flooded the surrounding area of the center rectangle. In the cookie to the left, I flooded the entire cookie, even over the top of the rectangle. Allow the cookies to dry for 45 min - 1 hr. Then take the end of a "boo boo stick" and poke even holes over the entire bandage....

My sister had me make a fun set for her caregivers last year when she was very ill. I made several different medical-related items. The pills and bottles were personalized with a very special prescription. :) To make pills, cut & bake cookie dough in small circles and ovals. Outline and flood the circles. After they have dried for 45 min - 1 hr, use a thin spatula to put a small crease across them. For the capsules, outline and flood half of the ovals. Cover them in nonpareil sprinkles Allow them to dry for an hour or so. Outline and flood the other half of the oval. I hand-cut the pill bottles after finding a good outline when I googled it. Outline and flood the bottle with a orange-brown colored glaze. After it has dried for an hour or more, outline the lid...

After a week break, it was nice to get back in the kitchen. I used my grain free sugar cookie recipe.......and was happy with the results. Butterfly Cookies

Another favorite thing.......butterflies. There are so many different kinds......different colors.....different wing designs. Love them. :) I decided to try to make a more "homespun" version of a butterfly.......patchwork style. So I pulled out my homespun Christmas Tree cookie cutter and got creative. Spring time......LOVE this time of year. I love every season......and I think the reason I love spring is because it follows the bleak winter.
