BURBANK, Calif. – August 6, 2014 – On Thursday, August 14, at 10 a.m. PT, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club will begin selling tickets for the next D23 Expo, which will take place August 14–16, 2015 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The largest Disney fan event in the world, the D23 Expo celebrates all the wonderful worlds of Disney entertainment, uniting all parts of The Walt Disney Company under one roof, including The Walt Disney Studios (including Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm); Walt Disney Parks and Resorts; Disney Consumer Products; Media Networks (including ABC, Disney Channel, and Radio Disney) and Disney Interactive. D23 Expo 2015 marks the fourth bi-annual event held in Anaheim.

More than 65,000 Disney fans from around the world gathered at the Anaheim Convention Center in 2013 for the third D23 Expo. Once again, the Expo will celebrate the past, present, and future of Disney with live events, celebrity appearances, panels, presentations, sneak peeks, and immersive experiences. D23 Expo 2015 marks the return of fan favorites including the Disney Legends Awards, honoring the talented men and women who have made indelible contributions to the Disney legacy; and Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, which spotlights costumes, props, and set pieces from Disney’s rich history.

As in previous Expos, D23 Expo 2015 will showcase all of the latest stars in the Disney universe. In 2013, celebrity appearances included Angelina Jolie, Chris Evans, Billy Crystal, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston, with performances by Idina Menzel, R5 featuring Ross Lynch, and a once-in-a-lifetime concert with Disney Legends Richard M. Tickets for D23 Expo 2015 are available at a discounted price for a limited time. From August 14–December 31, 2014, tickets are $61 for a one-day adult admission and $42 for children 3–12. Tickets for members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club are $52 for a one-day adult admission and $37 for children. Multi-day money-saving tickets are also available. D23 Members can save as much as $268 off the price of admission, based on the purchase of four three-day tickets at the D23 Member rate. What Disney World Restaurants to Dine at For Christmas Dinner

There are many great restaurants to dine at on Christmas Day. For those without kids, Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is probably what comes to mind first. For those with young kids, Whispering Canyon Cafe or Mickey's Backyard BBQ since they're fun for the family. Others might choose Le Cellier Steakhouse or Liberty Tree Tavern. My choice... Biergarten.

Biergarten Restaurant is located in the Germany Pavilion at Epcot. It might seem like a strange choice when it comes to Christmas dinner but it screams Christmas to me. The way Americans celebrate Christmas with trimming the tree (o Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, wie treu sind deine Blätter!..), nutcrackers (nussknacker in German) and candy canes are all because of Germany.

With all the Christmas spirit, there couldn't be a better place to enjoy dinner. In addition to the traditional German menu items like spaetzle, wild mushroom soup and weiner schnitzle; there will also be traditional American Christmas menu items.

Nurnberger Gluhwein

After enjoying a delicious dinner here, I head into the Weinkeller to pick up a glass of Gluhwein. Gluhwein is a very popular mulled wine served in the German Christmas markets. It's delicious! You can even puchase a bottle of it to take home with you. They sell the Nuremberger Gluhwein that is sold in the Nuremburg markets.

Where to Eat When It's Crowded at the Parks

So where do you eat when the parks are crowded? We'll I've got the answer for that. Many of the table service restaurants in the park will be full with no reservations available so often you are left with counter service or table service at Downtown Disney or the resorts. Here are some of your best dining options during the busiest times of the year:

Tusker House Restaurant - Often you can get a dinner reservation, even when it's busy.

My Halloween Favorites at Disney World

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year and no one does a Halloween party like Disney World. The Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a blast. You can't beat getting to dress up, see a Disney Villains stage show and Mickey's Boo-To-You Parade (where the Headless Horseman goes down Main Street), dance with some of your favorite characters and go trick-or-treating.

There is one thing that I do miss at Magic Kingdom that would take place during the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party - character dining at Liberty Tree Tavern. Once upon a time, Liberty Tree Tavern had character dining at dinner and on Halloween party nights the characters would dress in Halloween costumes. It was so much fun!

If you are traveling in this winter, you are lucky enough to get free dining! Disney has released it's Free Dining promotion to Disney Visa cardmembers.

Disney Rewards Visa cardholders can take advantage of booking this before it is released to the general public on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

Travel dates: January 5 - March 5, 2014
Booking: Now - December 31, 2013

Guests who book a Magic Your Way package at a Value resort will receive the Quick Service Disney Dining Plan for free. Guests who book a Magic Your Way package at a Moderate, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort will receive the basic Disney Dining Plan for free.

Promotion restrictions and details:

Guests may upgrade their dining plans for the difference in cost.
Offer excludes campsites, Grand Floridian Villas and Disney's Art of Animation Little Mermaid standard view rooms.
Gratuities and alcoholic beverages are excluded from the package.
Some table service restaurants may not be included in the Disney Dining Plan. Seating at some restaurants may be limited or not available at time of booking.
“Free Disney Dining” requires booking a Magic Your Way vacation package with a minimum of three-night hotel stay at an official Walt Disney World resort (at the non-discounted room rate) and minimum of a two-day base theme-park ticket.
Magic Your Way packages can be booked for a maximum of 14 days. However, theme-park tickets can only be purchased for a maximum of 10 days. Guests must book the “Free Disney Dining” with their Disney Visa Rewards Card and use their card and a minimum deposit to secure their reservation if booking prior to May 9.
Everyone staying in the same room must be on the same Disney Dining Plan. Children (ages 3-9) must order from the children’s menu when available. Guests ages 10 and above are considered adults and children under the age of 3 years are not eligible for the Disney Dining Plan. However, they may eat for free off an adult’s plate or at a buffet.

Phineas and Ferb Waffle-inator Challenge

Debuting at the D23 Expo, the Phineas and Ferb Waffle-inator Challenge can be experienced now at Downtown Disney at Disneyland this weekend - Friday, Aug. 16 - Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013.

The Waffle-inator Challenge takes place on a 40' LED screen. Phineas and Ferb try to rescue Agent P from a cage at the top of the screen. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is trying to prevent them so you have to fire waffles at him to help Phineas and Ferb.

Check out this fun experience from 9 am - 5 pm this Friday through Sunday.

Recipe: Garlic Shrimp with Tomatoes, Lemon and Broccoli Rabe

Garlic Shrimp with Tomatoes, Lemon and Broccoli Rabe

Recipe
24 medium shrimp (16/20), peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon coarse salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons oil from sun-dried tomatoes
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes in oil, drained and chopped
3/4 pound broccoli rabe, cut into thirds
Juice and zest of 1 lemon

Season shrimp with salt, pepper, and chili powder.
Heat olive oil and sun-dried tomato oil in a large saute pan over medium heat.
Add shrimp and cook for about 2 minutes, tossing once or twice. Add garlic, tomatoes, and broccoli rabe; cook another 2 to 3 minutes, tossing once or twice.
Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and zest. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Cook’s notes: The “16/20” refers to the size of the shrimp, meaning 16 to 20 per pound.

New Sweepstakes Offers D23 Members the Chance to Unlock the Magic of The Happiest Place on Earth With a Once-In-a-Lifetime Tour

BURBANK, Calif. – July 17, 2013 – In celebration of Disneyland’s 58th anniversary today, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club has launched the “Off the Map Sweepstakes.” Twenty-five lucky D23 Members and their guests will be invited to Disneyland Park to visit four of the park’s little-seen but widely heard of locations: Walt Disney’s private apartment, the Lilly Belle VIP parlor car on the Disneyland Railroad, Circle D Ranch, and the Disneyland Dream Suite.

“Our friends at Disneyland will give the winning D23 Members a special glimpse at some of the park’s most amazing hidden gems, special places that most guests never get to see,” said Steven Clark, Head of D23. “Our first ‘Off the Map’ member event in 2012 was such a huge hit that we wanted to reprise it with this special sweepstakes so even more of our members have a chance to visit these truly magical and historical Disneyland locations.”

Winners will be able to explore:

Walt Disney’s private apartment: Built during the initial construction of Disneyland, Walt Disney’s private apartment is a quaint studio dwelling, filled with Victorian decor, family photos, and antiques selected by the Disney family.
Lilly Belle VIP parlor car: Disneyland guests have long taken grand circle tours on the Disneyland Railroad, but few ever enjoy the ride from the elegant Lilly Belle VIP car parlor. Named after Walt’s wife, Lillian, the Lilly Belle is truly a piece of history, built in 1955, and refurbished to its modern state of luxury for America’s bicentennial celebration in 1976.
Circle D Ranch: From the friendly goats at Big Thunder Ranch to the horses who carry guests down Main Street, U.S.A., Circle D Ranch is home to Disneyland’s beloved “four-legged cast members.”
Disneyland Dream Suite: This private space above Pirates of the Caribbean was originally planned to be another apartment for Walt Disney, but he passed away before its completion. In 2008, Imagineers used some of Walt’s original ideas and some truly magical surprises of their own to transform it into a fantasy villa like no other.

City Saver is a Great Way to Save Money for Your Disney Trip

One great way to save money when dining out is City Saver. Many of the coupons in the book are Buy One Get One Free! They include local restaurants, site seeing, shopping and more.

So how exactly do you save money for your trip? Well, first of all it's saving you money on the cost of dining out, shopping, what have you. Secondly, you'll see on the receipt the amount that was taken off by your coupon. Put the money away that was saved into a "My Disney Trip" fund. This way you're getting a double benefit from using your coupons.

Friday, August 9 at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m., Ali Vincent, host of Live Big with Ali Vincent on the Live Well Network shares her fun ways to stay fit and pass the time while waiting in line at Disney theme parks. Ali, the first female to win The Biggest Loser, will demonstrate quick and simple ways to squeeze in exercise while spending the day at a Disney park, and get participants excited about the Disneyland Tinker Bell Half-Marathon, Walt Disney World Princess Half-Marathon, and many otherrunDisney events.

Saturday, August 10 at 1:00 p.m., Joey Fatone, host of My Family Recipe Rocks on the Live Well Network, teams up with DisneylandPark and Disney California Adventure Park executive chef, Christine Weissman, to cook up a fun and interactive Disney family dish.Join them to learn a Disney favorite that everyone in your home is sure to enjoy!

Limited number of D23 Members to experience the magic of runDisney on run through Disney California Adventure

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla – July 16, 2013 – runDisney is excited to be at the start line of Disney’s D23 Expo and lead the way with the runDisney D2.3 Fun Run on Friday, August 9.

A limited number of D23 Members will get the opportunity to experience the magic of a runDisney event and take part in a 2.3-mile fun run. The experience will include signature runDisney elements like Disney characters and the opportunity to run through a theme park, Disney California Adventure. In addition, runners will receive a shirt for participating and enjoy a little extra pixie dust along the way.

“runDisney is committed to helping people live a healthy and active lifestyle by providing races of various distances so the entire family can participate,” said Faron Kelley, director of Marketing for Disney Sports. “It’s exciting to be part of the D23 Expo and to provide a memorable runDisney experience for some of the most passionate Disney fans in the world.”
