RailWater 1.0 for iPhone

A new game from Cydia! I really find this game addictive, make you use your brain as you level up to different stage.

RailWater is a piping game where you place the correct joints together to match the number and letting the water move through.

During the game play, you will need to select a piece from the lower menu bar and drag it where you would like it. When you add a piece, it will make the water flow based on the shape of the pipe you added. You want the water to flow through all the pipes.

You can spin the pipe joints by tapping on them. However, you will also notice that at the end of each pipe there is a circle with numbers in them. The numbers also have to match each other. Example) 120/120. So, you have to use the correct pipes to subtract the correct amount of points as well as have the water flow through all the pipes!

Genius on iPod nano makes new musical connections on the fly

Not only did Ryan Kim (sfgate.com) find the new iPod nano “great for video,” but he also found the new Genius feature “surprisingly helpful in mixing up my listening habits.” Genius allowed him “to create a new playlist on the fly that made my listening experience feel fresh again.”

iPod Nano sports new shape and features

It's been two weeks now with the latest Apple iPods and I thought I'd chime in with some thoughts and observations. Of the two refreshes, the iPod Nano's is more dramatic, shifting its design back to its more candy bar shape after spending one generation in squat, square purgatory.

The Nano's shape, a throwback to the first two generations, feels right for the iPod. The third generation went with its square design to allow the 2-inch screen to sit horizontally. But the new Nano can go back to its old shape thanks to an accelerometer tilt sensor that allows you to turn it on its side and the player shifts the 320x240 screen (same as the 3G Nano) accordingly.

This great for video and I found it felt more natural holding the Nano on one side to watch movies and TV shows. You can flip it either way and the sensor adjusts the picture. The only downside is the controls are now 90 degrees off, which takes a second to get used to. The accelerometer can also power the shuffle feature so you can give it a hard shake and pull up a new random song. It also starts up Cover Flow when you turn the Nano on its side, giving you an alphabetical look at album covers.

Overall, the Nano departs from its predecessor and the iPod Touch and iPhone by retaining its sharp corners. It finds its curves along the front and back, which taper toward the sides forming something of a sword or wing shape. It affects the edges of the screen which curves as well, adding the potential for some glare. But as long as I didn't get carved up by my Nano while sitting down with it in my pocket, I found its shape to be quite appealing.

One of the other big additions is the Genius feature, part of iTunes 8 which you'll need to install to run the Nano. The service scans your iTunes library looking for songs that work well together. The algorithms get loaded up on your Nano so when you choose the Genius feature for a song, it pulls up 24 other songs that should be similar in nature. The trick is iTunes anonymously reports your listening habits back to Apple, which uses the collective data to make the connections.

I was skeptical about the service, but using it while out and about was surprisingly helpful in mixing up my listening habits. The lists sometimes reflected existing playlists but also pulled in a wide array of songs that I overlooked in my library. There were some jarring additions as well but you can just skip those. I just liked how I was able to create a new playlist on the fly that made my listening experience feel fresh again.

Some other thoughtful additions especially for visually impaired users were the ability to change the font size and also a new audio menu system that reads aloud your menu selections in a synthesized voice. One feature I really appreciate is an audio recording function so you can turn your Nano into a mini-recorder. You'll need to use some new headsets Apple is selling in October for $29 and $79 that feature music controls and microphone. Or you can use one of the iPhone earbuds.

The Nano offers the same 24 hours of audio playback and one less hour of video playback (4 hours). It comes in nine colors now and sells for $149 for a 8 gigabyte version and $199 for a 16 gigabyte model.

This iPhone Add-On Keeps Track of Your Treks

The Global Positioning System functions on the new iPhone may be great for drivers, but what about people who enjoy bipedal locomotion? Thankfully, RunKeeper from FitnessKeeper lets them track their runs, hikes and walks almost anywhere.

The program costs $9.99 on the iTunes App Store. While the iPod Touch, the iPod Nano and the iPod Classic all support the Nike+ iPod pedometer, RunKeeper does them one step better by tapping into the native G.P.S. capability of the iPhone 3G. While a person is jogging, RunKeeper displays the current pace, distance and time as well as a bar graph of the speed over time. After the run, the program automatically uploads the data to www.runkeeper.com. Log in there to see a Google map of the route as well as the run’s total distance.

In a few tests, the iPhone’s G.P.S. chip had trouble finding the exact location but still recorded the speed and distance at the end of the run. The program works best in wide-open areas, as city coverage is a bit spotty. Additional tips and tweaks can be found on RunKeeper’s site, including advice on buying the right waterproof case for training with your phone, ensuring the phone doesn’t get as hot and sweaty as you do.

Iphone: UK's "Stuff" names iPhone 3G gadget of the year

LONDON (Reuters) - Apple's iPhone 3G has won a public vote to find the year's best gadget, beating strong competition from three games consoles, a budget laptop and a balloon-shaped iPod speaker system.

The latest version of the mobile that combines a phone with a music and video player was chosen by readers of Stuff magazine in its annual Gadget of the Year awards.

The magazine described the iPhone 3G as "a faster, cleverer version of an already remarkable phone". The phone's first incarnation, launched in Britain last year, won the coolest gadget prize at last year's ceremony.

Other nominees included Sony's PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii Fit and the B&W Zeppelin iPod speakers.

Stuff's Editor Fraser Macdonald said the nominated products were judged on their performance, design and value, as well as "that elusive cool factor".

"Having our readers vote for a number of the awards has been fascinating," he said. "They are the ones out there on the street buying gadgets and so they are a great barometer."

The magazine's own gadget of the year prize, chosen by its editorial staff, went to the Asus Eee Pc, a no-frills laptop that costs less than 300 pounds.

The judges said it had made more of an impact than any other device and marked the start of a "laptop for everyone" era.

Calibration screen for phone tilt! One guy writing a review at the AppStore said he likes to fly on the couch, and wants VERTICAL to represent neutral-elevator: Fly on, couch-dude! Just go to the SETTINGS tab in the interface and set any phone angle as neutral! Now you can relax in bed or on the couch, with vertical being the reference-point for neutral-elevator, or sit up holding the phone in your lap with HORIZONTAL being the reference-point for neutral elevator, or anything in between! Set the center-point as you see fit!

Higher-contrast interface! One person said his eyes are a little weaker these days, so we contrasted the interface a bit more to make it easier for all to see! I managed to do this without making the interface look too harsh, I think.

Power and flaps set for you on the final approach selections. One guy writing a review at the AppStore was rather paniced that he had to move his thumbs 1/4" to set the power and flaps on final.. the horror! So, X-Plane now sets 25% power and flaps automatically when you set yourself up in flight, to be more closely configured for your landing! Kind of convenient.

The interface screens are organized a hair differently... much better I think. This lets volume-control and neutral-elevator control be in their own system-config screen, with a different screen dedicated to setting your location! Kind of nicer organization.

Summary:

Golden Agri-Resources (GAR), one of the world’s largest oil palm planters and key producers of CPO, saw its share price tumble 48% in September alone, following the meltdown in crude oil prices and crude palm oil (CPO) prices.

On top of falling CPO prices, the plantation sector was also hit by reports of a growing CPO inventory amidst a slowing global economy.

On the flip side, lower CPO prices may lead to an increased demand for palm oil – already the cheapest vegetable cooking oil – in the current high inflation environment, especially from more price sensitive economies such as China and India .

In addition, with CPO futures easing to around US$650/ton, palm oil is fast becoming economically viable as a bio-fuel (assuming crude stays around US$90/barrel) , even without any government subsidies, and that should help absorb the growing supply.

Nevertheless, we are easing our CPO assumption to US$600/ton as the base case for FY09, which lowers our estimates by some 7-26%.

Applying a conservative 9x valuation to blended FY08/09F EPS, our new fair value is S$0.48 (vs. S$0.71 previously), which still represents >45% upside.

As we see longer term value, we retain our BUY rating.

Singapore Market - Sentiments Likely To Improve

Singapore:
Market rebounded with low volume after a surged inthe US on Thursday night. Similar to the Wall Street, investors were bargain hunting for blue chips. This had led to a rise in STI while the FTSE Mid Cap, Small Cap and Fledgling indices all suffered loses.

The STI rose 29.52 points or 1.2% to close the week at 2,570.67. For the week, the STI fell slightly by 3.54 points or 0.1%. Volume fell with 0.95 billion shares worth S$1.10 billion transacted.

Despite the gain in the benchmark index, losers led gainers 277 to 219.

Wall Street:
Wall Street closed mixed with all eyes focused onLehman Brothers next move. After the Bear Sterns and Fannie-Freddie near collapse and rescue plans in March and early September, investors preferred to apply a wait-and-see attitude towards Lehman.

This had led to a two days surge in the Dow on Wednesday and Thursday followed by a small decline on Friday, despite disappointing results and restructuring plans announced by Lehman on Wednesday.

The Dow fell marginally by 11.72 points or 0.1% to close the week at 11,421.99 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 3.05 points or 0.1% to 2,261.27. Light sweet crude up slightly by US$0.31 to close NYMEX at US$101.18.

Outlook:
Market is likely to remain volatile in response to majorannouncements this week. Investors' focus will be on the US financial institutions, with Lehman Brothers likely to file for bankruptcy and the results announcements of Goldman Sachs on Tuesday and Morgan Stanley on Wednesday.

The US Federal Reserve Open Market Committee meetings on Tuesday will also be closely watched. Although we do not expect a rate cut, the Fed could possibly hint a cut in future meeting.

On the local front, the URA is to announce the New Home Sales number for August. As August is traditional a slow month as it landed in the Chinese Ghost month, we expect sale to be slowed from the near 900 units in July to about 600 to 700 units. This should provide some support for the dampened property stocks.

The other important local released for this week is the non-oil domestic exports number for August, to be announced on Wednesday. Although not much attention has been paid to the non-oil domestic exports number in the past, the current number will be closely watched given that most Singapore economists have downgraded their economic outlook given the lacklustre numbers in the past four months.

While market could continue to be depressed by the current uncertainty, any positive development in any the above events could turn the market around.

#2 - Expert Power

Expert power is the kind of power that you will see in professors who have a combination of legitimate and information power. They are experts in the field for an extensive area of knowledge. So you tend to respect them. Most people on the Internet establish themselves as expert by providing lots of information to their subscribers. This is the way to go, and if you are the kind that likes to read voraciously, then Internet marketing is definitely your cup of tea! Watch out you don't appear to be arrogant when you share your knowledge.

#3 - Information Power

Information power is the kind of thing that lets an individual be a gatekeeper of some piece of information that is scarce. It doesn't make you an expert, but it merely makes you valuable by virtue of the fact that no one else knows that 'secret'. People who hoard information, then distribute it end up becoming for more likable than they hoard it. At the same time, information holders may be passed off if the only thing they have is information! I highly recommend that if you are an information power holder, keep upgrading your information sources and your power will grow into Expert power.

#4 - Charisma Power

Didn't think you could be charismatic? Charisma seems to be left for the guys who wield power. But wait a minute - power comes from charisma. If you knew the strategies to influence and generate that charisma through that influence, you would be able to be more powerful. Charisma, however, is sometimes going to be interpreted as arrogance if you don't play it well.

#5 - Referent Power

When you refer to something, it associates with you. By hanging around a bunch of police officers after work for a drink, you are associated with them, and the reactions associated with that. If you hang around a group of beautiful models, you are associated with them too. So, the same thing happens when you talk about something. For instance, you talk about the fact that you went out with Bill Gates for lunch, that puts you in close proximity, and your reference create power. Watch out when you refer to people who may be credible but are unknown.

#6 - Legitimate Power

When you are put in a formal position of authority, you have legitimate power. As a chairman of a board of directors, you have legitimate power. As a coach of a national soccer team, you are in legitimate power. Legitimate power is good sometimes because credibility is automatic, but ONLY to that group of people who recognize that authority. So don't assume that just because you are a boss of 15,000 people, that others will automatically listen.

#7 - Coercive Power

Ooh... this one is about the whip. Can you wield coercive power and have credibility? Most people think not! Put it in perspective. One day, my staff were scolded over the phone by a very rich, but unreasonable customer. My business partner heard about it and called the other guy to reason with him, but ended up being insulted instead. So in return, my partner shouted at him to stop victimizing other people just to get a rise for them. If your coercive power is directed to protect those under your care, your credibility SOARS.

#8 - Reward Power

If I gave you $1000, would you like me more? Most probably! But not if I gave everyone else $10,000. Reward power has an issue in that you need to be FAIR. So as Internet marketers, we give out a ton of FREE bonuses, win clients over, then help to build a long term relationship with them. Do beware - such power is only externally motivating and doesn't always help in a long term relationship. It's just a start!

#4 - Your Ideas Are Your Best Friends!

If you aren't creative, you will need to stop and ask yourself if that's just an excuse. PPL Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, has secured a contractfrom Egyptian Offshore Drilling Company, S.A.E. (“EODC”) for the constructionof two units of jack-up rigs for a total contract value of around US$425m.

The pair of high performance jack-up rigs will be built based on PPLShipyard’s proprietary design Pacific Class 375 mobile offshore drilling unitand proprietary components. It will be equipped to drill high pressure and hightemperature wells at 30,000 feet whilst operating in 375 feet of water. It willhave accommodation with full catering and amenities for 120 persons.

The first unit is scheduled to be delivered at the end of the 4Q10while the second unit will be delivered by end of the 1Q11. On deliveries,these rigs will be contracted to EODC for their offshore operations in Egypt .

The contract is not expected to have any material impact on the nettangible assets and earnings per share of Sembcorp Marine for FY08.

Singapore market – Expect some profit taking

Singapore:
Singapore market surged with the regional markets inresponse to the Fannie-Freddie rescue plan announced over the weekend. Thebenchmark STI opened more than 90 points up and claimed gradually to closeanother 30 points higher as investors’ confidence gradually increased. TheIndex closed the day up 122.82 points or 4.8% at 2,697.03. All the 30 STIcomponent stocks closed higher with Wilmar, Noble Group and City Dev led thegainers’ list. However, investors remained cautious as shown by the moderateturnover, with 0.97 billion shares worth S$1.59 billion transacted. Gainersled losers 363 to 168.

Wall Street:
Wall Street rallied on Monday, inline with globalmarkets, in reaction to the Fannie-Freddie rescue plan announced over theweekend. Investors were hopping that the plan could stabilise the financialand housing sectors. Banks and home builders’ shares surged. The Dow was up289.78 points or 2.6% to close at 11,510.74 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq closedup 13.88 points or 0.62% to 2,269.76. Light sweet crude increased marginallyby US$0.11 to close at US$106.34 a barrel.

Outlook:
Some profit taking activities are expected after a big surge yesterday. The moderate trading volume yesterdays showed that investors remain cautious. They may take some profit and wait for the next signals before making theirnext moves. While the US government rescue plan has stabilised the US mortgagemarket, other problems still remain unsolved. The oversupply of homes needs afew years to resolve and most important of all, the health of the US economy. The current plan only prevents a collapse of the US financial market and causea plunge in the US economy. It is not likely to prevent the economy fromslowing down or even enters into a recession. Although one uncertainty hasremoved, we still have more yet to be solved. Thus, the market is likely tocontinue to react strongly to favourable or unfavourable news, corporate andeconomic releases. Thus, for those who have bought during the last two days ofthe week may want to consider taking some profit. The rest of the investors may want to hold on totheir portfolio and want for better time to sell.
