simple things work ... no matter how strange they seem to us. How about a species of worms that live of wail carcases at incredible depths ? seems these little guys are really really different. they don't have a mouth or anus (which is the first thing that most organism have when they are in the embryonic stage) they absorb food only through symbiotic algae in there bodies. If thats not enough !
