COOL SPACES TOUR: BALENCIAGA MUSEUM / EL MUSEO BALENCIAGA

  The Balenciaga Museum is housed in a newly built annex to Palacio 
Aldamar. This majestic villa, is on a hilltop overlooking the nice city of Getaria. 

  The Cuban architect Julián Argilagos was 
responsible for the volumetric and structural concept for the new 
building complete with an integrated floor-toceiling 
glass wall. Inside the building there are three suspended areas which 
house the galleries.

  The definitive formal design for the building – façade and rear, 
interior design and museography – is the work of the design team at 
AV62arquitectos.

  The interiors: floors, walls, colours and fittings are designed to 
create a calm, enveloping ambience where natural light is soft and 
muted.  Strategic use of bright colours, against dark grey, helps to define the different
 spaces.  The suspended areas in the exhibition 
halls are completely dark, covered in a twin-layer with a sheet metal 
overlay cut into very large floral shapes which add both depth and 
lightness.

  Ya hace unos 6 meses que se inauguró el Museo Balenciaga y hasta ahora no había tenido la oportunidad de acudir a este espectacular museo en la pequeña ciudad de Getaria.  

  El edificio nuevo que se 
anexiona al Palacio es obra del arquitecto cubano Julián Argilagos. Se 
trata de una gran volumetría cerrada con muro cortina de vidrio. En el interior tres 
grandes volúmenes suspendidos albergan las salas de exposiciones en los que se encuentran los vestidos del gran diseñador Balenciaga.

  La
 fachada frontal y posterior, 
interiorismo y museografía son obra del equipo AV62 arquitectos.

  El interior se caracteriza por los materiales, el color, las superficies, pero sobre todo por la entrada de luz. La mayoría del interior es gris oscuro, destacando con colores brillantes ciertas zonas (recepción, cafetería, tienda, etc). 

 Los volúmenes suspendidos de las salas de exposiciones deben ser 
totalmente oscuros, ya que la conservación de los vestidos depende de la luz. Las paredes exteriores se revisten de una doble piel acabada con una chapa 
recortada de estampado floral a gran escala, que es lo que primero vemos al entrar al gran hall.

I am a fan of every Martin Scorsese's films. So I was so excited when I heared that a new adventure 3D film was made by him. In 1931, Hugo Cabret is a lonely boy who lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station where he works as a clock keeper. In order to survive, he steals food from local shops. What happens later is something you have to discover by yourself. At least, if you want to enjoy the amazing set decors and have an unforgettable 3D visual event.

Soy una fan de todas las películas de Martin Scorsese. Así que cuando me enteré de que iba a estrenar un film de aventuras en 3D estaba emocionadísima. En 1931, el solitario Hugo Cabret vive y trabaja arreglando relojes en una estación de tren de París. Para sobrevivir, roba comida de las tiendas de la estación. Lo que ocurre después es mejor que lo descubras por ti mismo. Al menos, si quieres disfrutar de unos decorados espectaculares.

DIY: STORAGE BENCH / BANCO CON ALMACENAJE

  You can transformed a bookcase into a storage bech easily turning the piece on its side. Then, sewing a cushion cover and mounting the casters. 

  To complet the look, some hooks were hung at staggered heights. The shelving unit and the fabrics are from ikea.

  Para hacer un banco con almacenaje como el de fotografía, sólo necesitas dar la vuelta a una estantería. A continuación, puedes realizar un cojín en la misma anchura para y será totalmente cómodo y podrás añadir una nota de color. Por otro lado, añade unas ruedas para ganar en altura y poder moverlo a tu antojo. En la fotografía, la autora ha añadido unos colgadores en la parte superior lo que completa el look.

DIY IDEAS/HAZLO TU MISMO: THE CHURCH STREET BENCH / ASIENTO Y MESA DE AZULEJO TRANSPORTABLE

The author of this bench is Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad’s who is a designer with a background in photography. The benches take their name from a street in Paddington, north west London, where the crates were found, conceived, designed and then re-deployed into a market environment.

Taking this example as reference, we can make ourself several options to use outdoors in our houses or in businesses.

El autor de estas mesas y bancos realizados con azulejos es: Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad’s. El nombre del banco es The Church Street Bench (La traducción posible podría ser: Banco de Iglesia para la Calle). Fueron realizados a partir de los contenedores que Bahbak encontró en una calle de Londres y en los colocó a medida los azulejos en dos colores para poder usarlos en un mercado en la calle.

Con esta idea, se ha conseguido una pieza de mueble fácil de transportar montar, y a la vez estético que puede usarse tanto para negocios como en jardines de viviendas privadas. Y además, se han usado materiales reciclados.

COOL SPACES TOUR: LA GUINDA

La Guinda (the morello cherry) is a coffe shop and restaurant located in San Sebastián, exactly in the neighbourhood called Gros, near the beach. From outside, we can gues how is going to be inside. Our favorite part is the facade where flowers and wood make an excellent combination. Inside, the white wood continues, fighting with the funny colours of the chairs and stools. This place is warm, friendly and welcoming.

La Guinda es una cafetería-restaurante en Donosti, en el agradable barrio de Gros, cerquita de la playa. Desde fuera ya adivinamos como va a ser por dentro. Lo que más nos gusta es la fachada, en madera, y en la que se esconden unos tiestos con bonitos geranios. La madera envejecida y teñida en blanco que empieza en la fachada, continúa en el interior. Esto aporta calidez, y sobre todo, crea un lugar muy acogedor. Y en contraste con la limpieza y luminosidad del blanco, los taburetes y sillas de aluminio son de alegres colores que añaden un toque divertido a esta cafetería con ricos pasteles y restaurante con exquisita comida.

COOL INTERIORS IN TV: MAD MEN

This TV programme is inspirational. If you like retro furniture you must watch this TV programme. It is located in a Manhattan advertising agency in the fifties and sixties. The mid-century decor is impeccable, each room in the Mad Men set is styled in meticuluos detail. They've been clever to avoid using just the obvious iconic American names, like Eames, and incorporated the work of the "Danish school", a more affluent, luxurious look.

Set decorator to the show, Amy Wells, mentions that although she doesn't think "frills and knotty pine paneling" will be making a major comeback in today's home, she does think there will be "reinterpreted elements of that look." In the same article of LA Times, she also said that tufted velvet headboard in the mains character's home as an example of something that was popular then, and also popular now.

DIY / HAZLO TU MISMO: FABRIC FLAGS / BANDERITAS DE TELA

In one of my favorite pubs there are fabric flags hanging up in the ceiling, and I thought that it was a great idea to decorate my bedroom. So, let's do some fabric flags! Below you have the steps you should follow to do them by yourself, it's so easy:

En uno de mis bares preferidos del techo cuelgan banderitas de tela a modo de decoración, y me pareció una gran idea para dar una nota de color a mi habitación blanca. Aunque en algunas tiendas las vendan, aquí os explico los pasos a seguir para crearlas, es muy fácil:

STEPS / PASOS A SEGUIR:

1. Buy some fabric patchworks. We have bought 5 different fabrics, but you can buy more.

1. Comprar retales de telas. En este caso hemos comprado 5 telas distintas.

2. Draw the triangle pattern in a paper and then in the back of the fabrics to cut them.

2. Hacer una plantilla con la forma y medida y calcar por atrás de las telas. A continuación, cortar los retales.

3. Take two fabric and sew them in the machine matching the back of the faces.

3. Coger dos caras triangulares y coserlas por la parte de atrás.

4. When you have finished to sew them, take them around.

4. Darles la vuelta y ya tenemos las banderitas terminadas. Ya solo falta unirlas a la tira que irá colgada del techo.

5. Take a long fabric strip, in this case we have chosen a red one. And then, sew it from the middle. Later, place the flags in the strip and sew all together.

5. Para hacer la tira que una todas las banderas, debes coger una tira de tela y coserla por la mitad. Después, como ves en la imagen, vete colocando las banderas en la tira y cosiéndolo.

6. The last step is to hang the flags where you most like. In this case I will put them in the bedroom. In the next post you could see how it looks. 

6. El último paso es colocar las banderitas donde más os guste. En este caso lo voy a hacer en mi habitación. En el siguiente post os mostraré como ha quedado.

   I love flea markets, and every time I visit a new city I have to visit one. Although the most famous ones are in big cities like Madrid or London, the small markets can be found in most cities.

  This are the top five flea markets around the world you must visit if you have the chance.

  Me encantan los mercadillos, y cada vez que visito una ciudad intento visitar uno. Aunque los más famosos están en las grandes ciudades como Madrid y Londres, los pequeños mercados pueden encontrarse en casi todas las ciudades. 
  
  Estos son los cinco mercados más conocidos alrededor del mundo:

1. CANDEM PASSAGE, LONDON, UK
 
  Camden Passage is located outside of the Congestion Zone in the Borough of Islington. Main market and trading days are Wednesday and Saturdays. But many shops open weekdays or by arrangement.

  Whether you are a dealer, interior designer, collector – or just curious,        you will find Camden Passage intriguing. With the expert knowledge of the        dealers, variety of languages spoken, bureau de change, packing and shipping        all on hand, your visit will be a complete and enjoyable experience.

  Make sure you stop by Granny’s Goodies (Unit 3, 34a The Annex), a   celebrated doll dealer, where the magic of whimsical toys dating back   1850’s, takes you to a castle in the sky.

  Camden Passage esta situadoen la zona de Borough Islington. Abre los miércoles y sábados, aunque la mayoría de tiendas abre días laborales con cita previa.   

  Ya seas un  comerciante, un decorador, un coleccionista o simplemente un curioso,  encontraras este mercadillo fascinante. Con la experta opinión de  comerciantes, multitud de idiomas diferentes, empaquetado todo a mano,  etc. encontrarás esta experiencia divertida y genuina. 

  Asegúrate de pasar por Granny's Goodies, donde encontraras muñecas y juguetes de 1850.

2. EL RASTRO, MADRID, SPAIN

 El Rastro is Europes largest outdoor market in the centre of historic Madrid. It is open every sunday from 7 am to 2:30pm and on public holidays. A number of antique shops in the local area are also open on Sunday. Between Plaza Mayor, La Latina and Puerta de Toledo.

A great variety of products (new and used) can be found at el Rastro.

 El Rastro's promotional page advises those wanting a "tourist  experience" to go to el Rastro at 11am, as this when the market is  busiest. Those wishing to haggle for a bargain in the stalls should be at the  market a little earlier, between 9 and 10am. The crowds usually begin to  thin around midday, as people head for the bars at the edges of the  market and around La Plaza de Cascorro for a drink and some tapas.

  El conocido mercado de El Rastro  es el mercadillo al aire libre más grande de Europa. Se encuentra en el  centro histórico de Madrid y abre cada domingo de 7 de la mañana a 2:30  de la tarde. 
  
Para turistas, lo mejor es ir hacia las 11 de la mañana que es cuando el mercado está más lleno de gente y es más autentico. Pero si lo que quieres es comprar algo es mejor que vayas temprano. Cuando más lleno esta es hacia mediodía, cuándo la gente se amontona alrededor de la Plaza Cascorro a comer alguna tapa y beber algo.

3. AMEYA YOKOCHO MARKET, TOKYO, JAPAN

   Ameya Yokocho  market is located along Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and  Ueno Stations. 

  The market consists of two main streets or alleys, both of  them running  parallel to the JR train line, the first street closest to the  train  is solely street vendors and is the core of the market whereas the next   street are mostly permanent shops and more upscale shopping.

  Ameya Yokocho esta situado alrededor de la línea Yamanote y Okachimachi y la estación Ueno.

  El mercado consiste principalmente en dos calles, las dos paralelas a la línea de tren JR. La primera calle es la que esta más cerca al tren y es exclusivamente para vendedores. En la segunda calle se encuentran sobre todo tiendas permanentes para ir de compras.

4. THE BROOKLYN FLEA, NEW YORK CITY, USA

  Brooklyn Flea has grown into one of New York City's top attractions,  operating flea markets every weekend of the year that feature hundreds  of top vendors of antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing,  collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by local artisans and designers, plus delicious fresh food.

  Right now the Flea is open every Saturday and Sunday at Skylight One  Hanson, an event space in the landmark former Williamsburgh Savings  Bank. 

  From April through Thanksgiving, the markets take place outdoors: on  Saturdays in Fort Greene and on Sundays in Williamsburg. From  Thanksgiving through March, the market moves indoors to Skylight One  Hanson. And every summer you can find Flea food vendors at the Central  Park SummerStage outdoor concert series, where the Flea operates the  food and beverage concession.

  El mercadillo de Brooklyn se ha convertido en uno de las principales atracciones de Nueva York, y  cada fin de semana recoge cientos de comerciantes y anticuarios que  venden ropa vintage, muebles reutilizados, antigüedades, así como joyas, comida ecológica, etc.  

   Ahora mismo, el mercado abre cada  sábado y domingo en Skylight One Hanson, un espacio reservado para  eventos en Williamsburgh Savings Bank.

   Desde abril al día  de Acción de Gracias, el mercado se celebra al aire libre: los sábados  en Fort Greene y los domingos en Williamsburg. Desde Acción de Gracias a  Marzo, el mercado se desplaza a Skylight One Hanson, a un recinto  cerrado. Y en verano puedes encontrar a los comerciantes en Central Park  Summer Stage, donde el mercado vende comida y bebida.

 5. LES PUCES DE SAINT-OUEN, PARIS, FRANCE

  The most famous flea market in Paris is the one at Porte de  Clignancourt, officially called Les Puces de Saint-Ouen, but known to  everyone as Les Puces (The Fleas).  It covers seven hectares and is the  largest antique market in the world, receiving between 120,000 to  180,000 visitors each weekend.

 It is open every Saturday from 9h - 18h. Every Sunday from 10h to 18h and every Monday from de 11h to 5h.

"A Single Man" is the debut of the fashion designer Tom Ford, which is located in the 1960s of Los Angeles. I reccommend this film to everyone due to its fantastic art direction, interior design and all aesthetics aspects are amazing.

  The home of the main character Colin Firth was constructed entirely out of steel, glass, redwood, and  concrete and boasts an open floor plan with glass walls, that makes one feel as if they are actually outside.

La película A Single Man (Un Hombre Soltero) es el debut del famoso diseñador de moda Tom Ford. Os recomiendo esta película por la fantástica dirección de arte, los interiores y por toda la cuidadísima estética que rodea al filme.

La casa del prota, Colin Firth, fue construida en acero, vidrio, madera y cemento. La planta es abierta en paredes con cerramientos de vidrio que hacen sentir al que esta dentro como si estuviera en el exterior.

COOL DESIGNS: Apartment for a dancer and a choreographer by Cut Architects / Un apartamento para un coreógrafo y bailarín de Cut Architectures

  This apartment is designed by the French studio Cut architectures. Folding back these perforated screens reconfigures an apartment that’s combined with a dance and choreography studio near Paris. Light glows through the circular holes to give a star-studded appearance to the walls.

COOL SPACES TOUR: The Yurt of Milgi / EL MILGI

This place is one of my favorite places in Cardiff (Wales). You feel like you were in your home. Probably better than at home. The few lights, the confortable sofas and a hot drink in winter is one of the best choices to spend a night. In the back of Milgi, in the outside you will find the yurt, a portable bent wood-framed welling structure traditionally used by Turkid nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. In this circle structure you can have a drink or eat something in a private and relax atmosphere with an eclectic decoration.

Milgi is a %100 vegetarian, and there are music events and art activities every month.

Este sitio es uno de mis favoritos de Cardiff, capital de Gales. Estás tan agusto como en tu propia casa o mejor. La luz baja, los sofás, una bebida caliente en invierno, y su original decoración crean una atmósfera tranquila y relajante. En la parte de atrás de la cafetería Milgi, en la terraza encontramos el "yurt" que es una tienda de campaña de madera que era la vivienda típica de las estepas del centro de Asia.

El milgi, es una bar-restaurante 100% vegetariano en el que se organizan talleres de arte y música en directo cada mes.

COOL PUBLICITY INTERIORS: CHANNEL Nº 5

  The advertisement played by Audrey Tautou for Channel Nº 5 is not new, but recently I saw it again in the cinema in big screen. So I got in loved again with Audrey, Travis Davenport (the good-looking boy) and the interior of the train. The director is Jean Pierre Jeunet who has shot films such as Amélie, Un long dimanche de fiançailles and Delicatessen. By words of the director, the 2 minute and 20 second film for  Chanel No. 5 is about chance meetings, fate, romance and more. The best way to enjoy the advertisement rather than with pictures is watching it below.

  El anuncio protagonizado por Audrey Tautou para Channel Nº 5 no es nuevo. Pero hace tuve la oportunidad de verlo de nuevo en el cine a pantalla completa, por lo que volví a enamorarme de Audrey Tautou, Travis Davenport (el guapísimo chico que persigue a Tautou) y el decorado del tren. El director del anuncio es el famoso director Jean Pierre Jeunet quién también ha dirigido Amélie, Delicatessen y Largo Domingo de noviazgo. En palabras del director el anuncio trata sobre encuentros, amor, romance y mucho más. La mejor manera de disfrutarlo es viéndo el anuncio que encontraras abajo más que con las imágenes.

Thonet new version: 107 Chair

Who doesn't know which is the Thonet chair? At least if you like interior design, you should. The original cafe chair were designed in 1859 and is considered the most successful mass produced in the world to date. The basis was a new technique -the bending of solid wood - that Michael Thonet developed and perfected during the 1850s and it was the first time serial furniture production was possible.

But recently, Robert Stadler has created a new chair called 107 for Thonet. The new design borrows the language of the original but incorporates a flat backrest and can be produced in a process that's almost entirely automated.

The 107 has been designed by Stadler for the interior of a restaurant in Paris to the Corso brand. Words of Stadler:

"To design a new bistrot chair for Thonet is a touchy task. Initially I was proposed to customize a typical Thonet chair for the Corso restaurants, for which I am in charge of the design. But I preferred to elaborate a new chair instead of producing one more Designer comment on this essential piece of furniture. My starting point was the fact that today chair 214 (historically baptized Nr. 14) is rather expensive, which represents a certain break in regards to Thonet’s history. "

Quién no conoce la famosa silla Thonet? Al menos si te gusta el diseño de interiores o la decoración deberías de conocerla. Fue diseñada en 1859 y es considerada la silla con mayor éxito en fabricación en serie con más de 30 millones hasta 1930. La silla se realizó mediante la curvatura de la madera mediante una técnica tradicional curvada al vapor.

Recientemente, el austriaco Robert Stadler basándose en esta silla ha creado la silla 107 para Thonet. Continua con el mismo lenguaje que la original pero entre sus novedades se encuentra que puede producirse en un método casi automático y en el respaldo plano.

La silla 107 ha sido creada por Stadler para el interior de un restaurante en París para la marca Corso.
