Teenagers experience angst at one point or another. Sometimes, we feel like we can't escape the town we grow up in. We all feel out of place, and we all share that gut wrenching feeling of loneliness at some point. Be not afraid! Feeling stuck is not something to burden yourself with.
Put it this way: only about 18 years of your life will be spent in your town. It's kind of sad to think about, isn't it? Everyone feels like their teenage years last forever, but it really is only a moment in time. Be grateful for the few treasured memories made in your awful town!

Sitback Sunday: Cheap Budget Stores

Below, you will see two pictures I've taken from 2 online stores.

Can you tell the difference between these two shirts (other than color)?:

The one on the top is from Old Navy and the one on the bottom is from J. Crew.

The one on the top is $14 while the one on the bottom is $88.

Finding good deals can be hard, if you have no direction. After many mistakes, I have found a handful of stores to be the best place to look for if you want a good deal.

1. Marshall's/TJ Maxx

In my class, I'm known as the Marshall's girl. That's how often I shop at these stores. I combined these stores Overall, they're a really good store to buy name brands for cheap. You see American Eagle logos all over the store... if you're into brands like that. I would say that it's a pretty risky store. It's usually a hit or a miss.

2. Belk ONLINE

This store is a store found in the south, so northerners.... just skip this one. I say online because there is a better selection found online. I only go there for shoes, because I'm not a big fan of their clothing selection. But their shoes..... Heaven. Comparing their clearance shoes with the other stores is pretty fun because Belk's prices are ALWAYS lower whenever I check. Their selection is really nice, especially in between seasons.

3. Gap

Gap is like a J. Crew, but cheaper. Their clothes are good quality, and the clearance sections are where you should look for your clothes. I would say that you should only check in here in between seasons though to buy the really good stuff.

4. Old Navy

Cheap closet basics. The end.

5. Target

Target has a lot of trendy pieces for a cheap price! I would say it's a little more on the expensive side, but their clothing selection is hard to resist! Every week I feel like they're pairing up with a top-of-the-line fashion designer (ex. Neiman Marcus) to create stellar pieces. They're strongest selection is the bags. They make some of the best fashionable bags and are easy to match with whatever outfit you're wearing!

That's all I have for now, but I haven't forgotten about the amazing thrift stores out there! That subject needs a post in itself.

Fashion Friday: Loafers

I'm in love with loafers. They're probably my favorite type of shoe. They make you look fancy, but can be turned into a casual piece when styled correctly.

Interesting Facts About Anime

Bleach:

My favorite anime is Bleach. Originally Tite Kubo had planned to make the main character Rukia Kuchiki. The show was going to be called "Snipe" instead because everyone was going to use guns except for Rukia who would use a scythe. Later Tite decided to use swords and he changed the name to "Bleach" because it was related to the color white that would contrast with their soulreaper outfits.

Poke'Mon

1) When the manga first began it was decided that Ash would use a Clefairy instead of a Pikachu.

2) One of the episodes of Poke'mon about Porygon had an episode with quick flashing colors that put over 600 Japanese kids in the hospital.

Media Monday: Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad. A show so hardcore with so many twists and turns that you have to love it.
So, what is Breaking Bad?
Let me set up the scene:
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, A man named Walter White teaches Chemistry at a local high school. He has one mother, one son, and an unborn baby he didn't plan on having.

Walter, his wife Skyler, and his baby

Walter starts feeling sick, and goes to the doctor. His visit to the doctor reveals that he has cancer. Not wanting to leave his family in a debt the size of Mauna Loa, Walter decides to make meth. He partners up with one of his failed students: Jesse Pinkman.

The show is what happens between the wheeling and dealing of the meth. It's a great show to watch (provided you can tolerate the mature rating shows). I love it because it has such a different feel to it than most shows. It is very artistic in terms of filming style.

I hope I'm not alone in this one, but I love a good personality test! They give fun, interactive, and well-reasoned insight into your personality. There are a lot of personality tests all around the internet, and here are the coolest ones I've found:

Originally used for WW2 purposes, this test has become a very useful tool.

Tips On Washing Clothes

If a shirt is just a little too small it isn't a problem. Try not to buy clothes that are a 100% cotton. They'll shrink as you might already know. I found out the financially difficult way. If you do buy, or already have, a small shirt don't put it in the dryer. I use a coat rack in my laundry room. After I'm done washing my shirts I take them out and stretch myself in the areas I think should be wider. After that I hang them up to dry in my laundry room. They usually dry over night.

Think 'bout it Thursday: Future Education

The future. It can be a pretty scary subject when you think about it in its entirety. Your future education can be so overwhelming to think about. But you know what? I've learned that it's better to keep your mind in the present rather than blindly focusing on the future. Let me tell you why.

Last year, school was so stressful. I never got any sleep at night, and when I did, it was for about 3 hours at most. I was trying so hard to get a good grade that I missed out on a whole year's worth of school experiences. I was so worried about getting good grades in order to get into a good college. While I was perfecting my projects and grades, a lot of my friends did not care about the project nor grade at all. They were off finding and discovering their true passions. I think this graduation speech by Erica Goldson best sums up why we shouldn't worry if we're good enough for what the future holds:

Here are the words to her beautifully written speech:

" There is a story of a young, but earnest Zen student who approached his teacher, and asked the Master, "If I work very hard and diligently, how long will it take for me to find Zen? The Master thought about this, then replied, "Ten years."  The student then said, "But what if I work very, very hard and really apply myself to learn fast - How long then?" Replied the Master, "Well, twenty years." "But, if I really, really work at it, how long then?" asked the student. "Thirty years," replied the Master. "But, I do not understand," said the disappointed student. "At each time that I say I will work harder, you say it will take me longer. Why do you say that?"  Replied the Master, "When you have one eye on the goal, you only have one eye on the path."
   This is the dilemma I've faced within the American education system. We are so focused on a goal, whether it be passing a test, or graduating as first in the class. However, in this way, we do not really learn. We do whatever it takes to achieve our original objective.
   Some of you may be thinking, “Well, if you pass a test, or become valedictorian, didn't you learn something? Well, yes, you learned something, but not all that you could have. Perhaps, you only learned how to memorize names, places, and dates to later on forget in order to clear your mind for the next test. School is not all that it can be. Right now, it is a place for most people to determine that their goal is to get out as soon as possible.
   I am now accomplishing that goal. I am graduating. I should look at this as a positive experience, especially being at the top of my class. However, in retrospect, I cannot say that I am any more intelligent than my peers. I can attest that I am only the best at doing what I am told and working the system. Yet, here I stand, and I am supposed to be proud that I have completed this period of indoctrination. I will leave in the fall to go on to the next phase expected of me, in order to receive a paper document that certifies that I am capable of work. But I contest that I am a human being, a thinker, an adventurer – not a worker. A worker is someone who is trapped within repetition – a slave of the system set up before him. But now, I have successfully shown that I was the best slave. I did what I was told to the extreme. While others sat in class and doodled to later become great artists, I sat in class to take notes and become a great test-taker. While others would come to class without their homework done because they were reading about an interest of theirs, I never missed an assignment. While others were creating music and writing lyrics, I decided to do extra credit, even though I never needed it. So, I wonder, why did I even want this position? Sure, I earned it, but what will come of it? When I leave educational institutionalism, will I be successful or forever lost? I have no clue about what I want to do with my life; I have no interests because I saw every subject of study as work, and I excelled at every subject just for the purpose of excelling, not learning. And quite frankly, now I'm scared.
   John Taylor Gatto, a retired school teacher and activist critical of compulsory schooling, asserts, “We could encourage the best qualities of youthfulness – curiosity, adventure, resilience, the capacity for surprising insight simply by being more flexible about time, texts, and tests, by introducing kids into truly competent adults, and by giving each student what autonomy he or she needs in order to take a risk every now and then. But we don't do that.” Between these cinderblock walls, we are all expected to be the same. We are trained to ace every standardized test, and those who deviate and see light through a different lens are worthless to the scheme of public education, and therefore viewed with contempt.
   H. L. Mencken wrote in The American Mercury for April 1924 that the aim of public education is not

to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence. ... Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim ... is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States. (Gatto)

   To illustrate this idea, doesn't it perturb you to learn about the idea of “critical thinking.” Is there really such a thing as “uncritically thinking?” To think is to process information in order to form an opinion. But if we are not critical when processing this information, are we really thinking? Or are we mindlessly accepting other opinions as truth?
This was happening to me, and if it wasn't for the rare occurrence of an avant-garde tenth grade English teacher, Donna Bryan, who allowed me to open my mind and ask questions before accepting textbook doctrine, I would have been doomed. I am now enlightened, but my mind still feels disabled. I must retrain myself and constantly remember how insane this ostensibly sane place really is.
   And now here I am in a world guided by fear, a world suppressing the uniqueness that lies inside each of us, a world where we can either acquiesce to the inhuman nonsense of corporatism and materialism or insist on change. We are not enlivened by an educational system that clandestinely sets us up for jobs that could be automated, for work that need not be done, for enslavement without fervency for meaningful achievement. We have no choices in life when money is our motivational force. Our motivational force ought to be passion, but this is lost from the moment we step into a system that trains us, rather than inspires us.
   We are more than robotic bookshelves, conditioned to blurt out facts we were taught in school. We are all very special, every human on this planet is so special, so aren't we all deserving of something better, of using our minds for innovation, rather than memorization, for creativity, rather than futile activity, for rumination rather than stagnation? We are not here to get a degree, to then get a job, so we can consume industry-approved placation after placation. There is more, and more still.
   The saddest part is that the majority of students don't have the opportunity to reflect as I did. The majority of students are put through the same brainwashing techniques in order to create a complacent labor force working in the interests of large corporations and secretive government, and worst of all, they are completely unaware of it. I will never be able to turn back these 18 years. I can't run away to another country with an education system meant to enlighten rather than condition. This part of my life is over, and I want to make sure that no other child will have his or her potential suppressed by powers meant to exploit and control. We are human beings. We are thinkers, dreamers, explorers, artists, writers, engineers. We are anything we want to be - but only if we have an educational system that supports us rather than holds us down. A tree can grow, but only if its roots are given a healthy foundation.
   For those of you out there that must continue to sit in desks and yield to the authoritarian ideologies of instructors, do not be disheartened. You still have the opportunity to stand up, ask questions, be critical, and create your own perspective. Demand a setting that will provide you with intellectual capabilities that allow you to expand your mind instead of directing it. Demand that you be interested in class. Demand that the excuse, “You have to learn this for the test” is not good enough for you. Education is an excellent tool, if used properly, but focus more on learning rather than getting good grades.
   For those of you that work within the system that I am condemning, I do not mean to insult; I intend to motivate. You have the power to change the incompetencies of this system. I know that you did not become a teacher or administrator to see your students bored. You cannot accept the authority of the governing bodies that tell you what to teach, how to teach it, and that you will be punished if you do not comply. Our potential is at stake.
   For those of you that are now leaving this establishment, I say, do not forget what went on in these classrooms. Do not abandon those that come after you. We are the new future and we are not going to let tradition stand. We will break down the walls of corruption to let a garden of knowledge grow throughout America. Once educated properly, we will have the power to do anything, and best of all, we will only use that power for good, for we will be cultivated and wise. We will not accept anything at face value. We will ask questions, and we will demand truth.
   So, here I stand. I am not standing here as valedictorian by myself. I was molded by my environment, by all of my peers who are sitting here watching me. I couldn't have accomplished this without all of you. It was all of you who truly made me the person I am today. It was all of you who were my competition, yet my backbone. In that way, we are all valedictorians.   I am now supposed to say farewell to this institution, those who maintain it, and those who stand with me and behind me, but I hope this farewell is more of a “see you later” when we are all working together to rear a pedagogic movement. But first, let's go get those pieces of paper that tell us that we're smart enough to do so!"

I hope that you, reader, don't get too caught up in being in the best college and whatnot. Remember that you will have to live with the choices you make. Don't look back at your past and say to yourself," I wish I did that when I was younger instead of focusing so much on the future!" Instead, make memories that will make you look back and say," That was one of the best memories of my life."

School is around the corner. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Remind your true friends of how lame they are by one upping them this year. Below are some unique school supplies and ideas.

Sexy Backpacks:

Remember that time when laptops were being passed around your classroom and everyone got a complimentary backpack, and just when you’re the last to get yours and you specifically ask for a large and they give you a small!? “I don’t want to be apart of your system anyhow”. These backpacks serve multiple purposes.

Defender Anti-Theft Backpack

You know what? Kids suck (._.). It's pretty confusing to stare at. The zipper is near your back and there is velcro on the straps so you can feel if someone is trying to jack yo' stuff.

Joshu+Vela Backpacks

Something a little more effeminate. It is supposed to last a long time. It is handmade and has no frills. It is water repellent and is made of vegetable tan leather.

Solid Gray Bass-pack

Share a piece of your mind with the rest of the world. Blast some music from this backpack and maybe eventually get arrested for public disturbance. It is made of light plastic with foam shielding the inside. There isn't a price yet though.

Pens:

I think pens are rad. With pens you have to deal with lead snapping and them always getting stolen. These pens will make your life easier.

Epos digital pen and USB drive work together, you write with the pen on a flat surface, and everything you write is saved on the USB drive.

This pen will take anything that you hover over and transfer it to the pen that you can then draw on a piece of paper with.

3Doodler 3D Printing Pen

Only around $74. Still expensive though. A pen that will emit than immediately dry whatever you want. Create an army!

Memories:

Save some of those highschool memories for when your older with a camera. Don't worry it doesn't even really look like a camera. Just tell your teacher and friends it's a tamagotchi or something. This camera is a small clip-on that takes two pictures every minute. So strap it on and prepare to blackmail people. :)

Sticky Notes:

Stay organized with a sticky note that folds over to look like a watch. It should always be there and help you remember. Or you could just write it down on your wrist.

Entertain yourself with some pranks towards some well-deserving people.

Car Pranks

Hijinks involving cars are popular because cars are big and noticeable. One high school in northern GA targeted the principal's car. Students jacked the back end of the car up, placed blocks under the rear axel and let the car down so the rear tires rested about ¼ of an inch off the ground. When he climbed in and started the car it went nowhere without traction.

At the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School, officials discovered a neon pink Honda Accord on the roof of the school. Now that took some planning and teamwork! The police determined that it probably involved dozens of students using crude ramps to pull the Honda onto the school roof.

Animal Pranks

Some of the best high school pranks involve animals, but remember if you use an animal for your mischief take the safety of the animal into consideration. Animal death or maiming will not be funny and can even get you in trouble.

For example, in 1969 the senior assembly at Maine West Township High School in Des Plaines, Illinois witnessed the release of a greased pig. In this large suburb of Chicago, not many knew much about farm animals and the teachers and administrators trying to catch a greased pig brought waves of laughter from the student body. The perpetrators were never caught.

Other animal pranks include things like all students bringing their dogs to school on the same day. If you choose another variation of this theme, be sure the animals involved can walk up and down the stairs and be prepared to clean up any mess your pet makes while in the school.

All kinds of pranks have been pulled involving faculty members. In one high school, the students collected 'For Sale' signs from yards and moved them to the lawns of faculty members.

Pranks on Lower Classmen

The friendly feuds between juniors and seniors leave the door open to shenanigans as one class plays jokes on the other. In 2007, Marist seniors left notes for the juniors on their cars parked in the school parking lot to "Go find your license plate." Plates were lined up on the soccer field. Unfortunately, for the students who didn't know their tag number, it was a long ordeal.

Pulling off a high school prank involving the school mascot can be tricky. You need to make sure you don't damage school property or injure anyone. It is a common prank to kidnap the mascot before a big game.

Bathrooms generate a lot of ideas for pranks, but one that doesn't cause damage or require clean up is placing dry ice in urinals, toilets and sinks to create an eerie scenario. Using trash bags to cover windows and allowing limited light adds to the creepy atmosphere.

Tunes Tuesday: 8tracks

When people want to listen to music on the world wide web, they always seem to go to one place:

That's right. Pandora.

And while I don't have anything against this internet radio station, I don't think it's the best place to listen to some cool tunes. I find like I'm hearing the same songs over and over again. That's why when I listen to music, I listen to 8tracks.

8tracks, like Pandora, is an internet radio. But unlike Pandora, 8tracks have their playlists made by members of the website! So by joining this website, you can create and listen to playlists! By doing this, you are bound to find amazing music that you would have never found if you kept listening to Pandora all day. Whether you want to listen to rap, classical, or rock, 8tracks can play it.

Cool Roms

Cool Roms is a site that you can visit to download games for free. All of the games are pretty old but should work fine on your computer. If you choose a complex game it is less likely to actually work.

(personal favorite! Play it at school all the time!)

Steps:

1) Go to coolrom.com and hover above emulator.

2) Choose the emulator that you want to download.

3) Pick the emulator with the highest rating. (This emulator might not end up working if you don’t see it as a zip file in your downloads. You’ll have to go back and try another emulator with a lower rating)

4) Click download at the bottom and then another window will appear that will say “Download Your File” that you should again click.

5) Once you see the zip file right click it and choose extract all.

6) Hit extract again.

7) You can leave it in your downloads or you could move it over to a flash drive or desktop. (If you put it on a flash drive you can play it on other people’s computers)

8) Now We’ll have to get roms (The games).

9) Go back to the site and hover over the rom files and choose the system you had just downloaded an emulator for.

10) Choose the game you want.

11) Click download. Then another window will appear saying “Download Your File” and click that too.

12) Right click the game you just downloaded in your downloads and extract all.

13) Click extract again.

14) Drag the game into the emulator file and then drag it into the emulator. (Usually there will be a picture that represents the emulator)

Another Tale Of Little Red Riding Hood

Honestly Little Red Riding Hood is a pretty boring story. It’s about a confused little girl running through the forest by herself to deliver some food to her dying grandmother. Anyhow both the little girl and the grandmother end up consumed by the wolf. There are a few other original verses of little red riding hood though. In one of the original stories The wolf meets Little Red and they decide to meet at her grandmother’s. This time when the wolf arrives he doesn't immediately eat the grandmother. He ties her up and prepares her to be eaten. When Little Red arrives she sees her “grandmother” lying in bed with a bowl of soup. Another bowl of soup is offered to Little Red. And as you have already assumed Little Red and the wolf were actually eating grandmother together!

…Oh My God, right? …I hope they saved room for that basket of food.

What To Expect When Taking A Fist To The Face ...By Superman

In the comics it claims that superman can punch you into space, but how would it actually turn out? Superman can lift 200 quintillion tons with one hand, fuel the sun, and separate dimensions with his fist. It is shown that Superman can travel the speed of light, but nothing with that much mass could actually travel that fast, so instead we’ll say he travels 1% less than the speed of light. 296,794,533 miles per second. If his fist is 300 grams (or 0.661387 pounds) and it travels 99% the speed of light it would have energy of 190,000,000,000,000,000 joules. That is the same as 45 megatons of tnt or 2,800 times stronger than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As a result the energy released from the impact would be equivalent to 143,999,999,999,540.3 F. That is 5 million times hotter than the core of our sun. Since his fist is traveling at the speed of light your eyes wouldn’t be able to send the image to your brain meaning you would’nt see it happen. This would destroy architecture and everything around it. There would be a giant mass of smoke and flame surrounding you. Well actually there wouldn’t be a “you”. The atoms would actually be knocked out of you. That’s why it’s cooler to stick with Batman.

Cool Movies And Shows (All Comedy)

1) Home Movies

A show about three kids who come home every day to film their own movies. It's dry comedy (the best kind).

2) Lucy, Daughter Of The Devil

This show is about Lucy and how her father, Satan, continues to humiliate her. They deal with some giant monsters and haunted houses. It comes on late on adultswim so you might not have heard of it.

3) The Mighty Boosh

An uncle and his nephew are a couple of groovy free spirits dealing with obstacles everyday.

4) Kick Ass

Hit Girl and Kick Ass continue to defend the world from evil. It's tough for them and they don't usually leave situations unscathed.

5) Code Monkeys

A show designed to look like a video game is about a corporation that makes ..videogames. They have a rival corporation that also makes videogames. They aren't really professional and commonly goof off and get wasted.

6) FLCL

This show is pretty hard to understand. I don't fully comprehend it myself. A kid has to deal with his family and friends constantly bugging him. Every episode looks like it was created while someone was on drugs.

7) Super Milk Chan

Milk Chan is not intended for kids. It's kind of like the power puff girls, but for adults. It is about a normal, violent girl who gets calls daily from the mayor to save the world. She doesn't always follow through with them.

8) Children’s Hospital

A hospital for children duuh. More about themselves than the children.

9) Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell

Another show about the common office life ..in hell. Two coworkers are hassled literally 24/7 to collect souls.

10) Bleach

My favorite, Bleach. The woman above is Rukia Kuchiki! Her and Ichigo are soul reapers. People who defend the world from everything that threatens it.

Sitback Sunday: Ways to spend your summer with friends

Alright. It's a little late in the summer and most of you are probably trying to cram in any summer-esque activities left. I have never been the sort of person who enjoys the usual hangouts at other people's houses. It gets pretty boring just.... talking.
For those of you like me, here are some ways that you can hang out with your friends and do something worthwhile!

1. Geocaching
Materials needed: an electronic device with GPS capabilities, access to a car

I was first introduced to geocaching in 8th grade when I joined a "geocaching club" (quotation marks because we did nothing in reality.) I was disinterested at first because my geocaching group just kept getting lost. Not once in that club did we find treasure, until the teacher eventually helped us out of pity. Recently I've come to appreciate this activity. Geocaching is pretty much an international treasure hunt. Using coordinates and a GPS, you can not only find treasure (also known as caches), but you can place them too!

I'm not going to lie, GPSs can get pretty expensive. The one above is about 100 dollars. But, If you save and split the cost between friends, it should be no problem. There are also apps available for smart phones that cost about 10 dollars.

2. Thrift Hopping

Materials needed: cash, access to a car

Thrift hopping is a term I coined after a very successful Goodwill shopping spree. It's thrift shopping, but going to a ton of different thrift shops instead of just a couple. When you thrift hop, it is probably a good idea to go with friends who are different sizes. That way, you guys don't have to play the "I SAW IT FIRST!" game.

3. Film
Materials needed: recording device, active imagination

Filming with friends can be such a fun experience. You don't have to be afraid of messing up your lines, because you're friends with the whole cast & crew! Filming is a great creative outlet for those interested. I myself have become really interested with film. Always remember: you don't need good equipment to make a good film.

4. Start A Band

Materials needed: various instruments

I recommend this for people who already have instruments laying around the house. If you have an old guitar your dad doesn't use, why not put it into good use? Sure, your band probably won't be heard by the nation within a week of band practice. But, the fun and good times that come out of an experience like this transcends time. Don't be discouraged if you only have one guitar, or a maraca. People can make good music without 4 different instruments playing together! If you don't believe me, look at this:

In conclusion, there are TONS of things you could be doing with your friends instead of the usual hang. Why sit on the couch when you could be the next Woody Allen? The rest of the summer holds realms of possibilities.

Do you know what it’s like to see from a dog’s point of view? It isn’t true that dogs can’t visualize colors. Our eyes contain rods and cones. The rods detect light and the cones process colors. Dogs only have two color receptive cones. Blue, green, and a little yellow. So seeing from a dog’s eyes would be like this.

Our eyes have three color receptive cones. Blue, green, and red. All three of the cones combined enable us to see all the other colors such as purple, orange, yellow, and so on. But that doesn’t make us special. Our stupid brains can’t comprehend the possible hundreds of other various colors that exist. It gets better. Butterflies Have five color receptive cones. Blue, green, red, and the other two we couldn’t possibly name. There is one other organism already known to have more color receptive cones than the butterfly. The Mantis Shrimp has sixteen color receptive cones. They have the same three as us and thirteen other cones. They’re very unique and look like this ..at least to our eyes.

It is hard to contain them since they kill almost everything that comes near them. “How could something that seems like the size of an ordinary shrimp be so difficult to get along with” you might ask? Because they will beat you like you owe them money! For arms they have two raptorial appendages on the front of their body. The velocity that it posseses can be compared to gunshot from a twenty two caliber rifle. If a human had 1/10 of that strength we could pitch a baseball into orbit! So if you did try to hold one in a tank it could easily bust out.
