Since Henry Ford built the Model T Ford, people have been dreaming of a vehicle that could drive AND fly. It took almost 90 years before this dream could be realized. Now it will: PAL-V Europe BV is building everybody’s dream in mobility: a full-fledged flying and full-fledged driving vehicle. Your first questions will probably be: How does it work and why is this suddenly possible now?

PAL-V Europe BV started in 1999 to study many technologies and evaluated various concepts. It made numerous designs and patented all its findings, leading to the PAL-V ONE. The first Personal Air and Land Vehicle (PAL-V) available for anybody.

PAL-V Europe BV combines the recent “tilting car” technology of the Carver with the safest and easiest principle of flying, the gyrocopter. It has the exclusive rights to all the basic patents covering this magnificent concept. In addition, PAL-V Europe BV has patents pending for amongst others a foldable rotor.

After 6 years of concept work, PAL-V Europe BV has now entered the next phase. It is starting to build the first commercial prototype to prove all technologies, to finetune the design, to start-up production and carry out the market launch of the PAL-V ONE.

Since 2004/2005 new European and American regulations allow people to fly the PAL-V with a simple sports aviation license. It takes between 15-25 hours getting a license for flying while driving can be done with a regular car driving license.

PAL-V Europe BV is currently raising the capital necessary for the realization phase.

Daylight Projection Clock with motion detector

Firebox have added another strange and possibly useful gadget to their lineup: the Daylight Projection Clock.

The DP100, unlike most projection clocks, throws an image that can be viewed in daylight. It alternates between time and indoor temperature with lovely red glowing digits.

Its projection arm rotates up to 180º so that it can be viewed from any angle at almost any distance.

Helpfully, the clock is motion-sensitive, so you don't have to press any buttons to rotate through digital clock, calendar, alarm and indoor temperature.

Snooze is rather easily activated when the alarm goes off simply by waving above the clock.

Toshiba to launch HD DVD for your car

Toshiba is hoping to take its format war against Blu-ray on the road with the launch of the first HD DVD player for your car.

The new automotive HD DVD player will come with a touch panel LCD that promises to feature new technology allowing it to work in varying lighting conditions as well as being brighter.

The prototype was shown off at the "Automotive Engineering Exposition 2007" with Alpine Electronics.

Both company's say they plan to launch a device next year.

It was rumoured by a few that Apple would reveal new iPods today, but as the press event was said to be Mac-focussed, which was from Apple direct, many dismissed the gossip.

They were right to do so as Apple revealed nothing on the iPod front which leaves the suggested September launch date for the new models open.

A new range of aluminium and glass iMacs were launched, as well as the iLife 08 and iWork 08 software suites.

On the multimedia side of things, Apple did make a promise regarding their "hobby" product (as Jobs has described it in the past) the Apple TV.

When asked about the product in the Q&A session, Jobs said:

"We're here to talk about Mac, we'll have some news for the Apple TV soon, but nothing to talk about today."

Premium Xbox 360 Confirmed

Pure digital hi-def output will soon not be just confined to the 360 Elite as Microsoft has now confirmed that the Premium version of its next-gen console will feature HDMI ports.

In a statement to the press, Microsoft said, "We are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360| PS3'>Xbox 360 owners' games and entertainment experience.

Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand."

Aah, Hacky Sacks... those long, sunny childhood days in the park with nothing more than small bean-filled bag and a little imagination to amuse you...

Handheld Wii to launch?

Obviously impressed with the success of the motion sensing Wii remotes, it seems like Nintendo may be looking into doing something similar for a handheld.

A patent application, filed in the U.S back in March, has been found detailing the concept and reading, "The housing [console] incorporates an XY-axis acceleration sensor to detect an acceleration in an X-axis and Y-axis direction and a Z-axis contact switch to detect an acceleration in a Z-axis direction."

Well, it sounds like a Wii remote but the image, albeit rather crude, shows a Game Boy type handheld. And it wouldn’t be the first time that Nintendo have tried something similar with a handheld as it has previously released the likes of Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble on Game Boy Color and WarioWare Twisted on GBA.

Want to know more about what exactly Nokia is due to be launching on August 29th?

The rumoured music download service has been the focus of most speculation, but don't forget the news that some new Nokia devices were originally talked up too...

There's a brilliant Nokia viral site live now (link below) that suggests at least one mobile to be launched is the much anticipated N81.

We brought you news of this promising Nseries offering when specs'n'pics were previously leaked.

The N81 (pictured) is a sexy-looking Symbian-based slider phone that reportedly boasts an 8GB memory, is quad band, and has 2.4-inch QVGA screen display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

You could speculate that it would certainly fit nicely into any music-themed announcements with that ample memory capacity, there's no hint that the N82, leaked at the same, might launch too.

The site is worth checking out - although initially a blur of floating nonsense and eerie sounds, if you find the pause button in the middle with your cursor there's more than meets the eye...

Hit the pause whenever the floaty bits form into a phone-like shape and you'll be treated to a strange selection of short bursts of video clips before a countdown timer is revealed - to August 29th.

That, and the message "I'll be seeing you in the next episode...".

We were excited before, now we're really excited.

Women love bikes almost as much as we do. I don't care what your four-wheel ride is, nothing comes close to hitting the back roads, wind in your hair, and her arms wrapped tightly around you. And image-wise? Even my accountant looks like a bad-ass on his Harley. (Once he takes off his bifocals.)

If you're looking to add a rougher edge to your image, Harley-Davidson recently put a new bike on the streets with throw-back styling. They call it the Nightster, and it incorporates a whole bunch of old-school design elements Harley has used to harken back to "the themes of outlaw and rebellion that Harley's are iconic for." And can't we all use a little more outlaw and rebellion in our lives?

There's a newly styled logo on the tank and the paint is available in matte finish only, giving the bike an edgier look. The license plate is side mounted, with old-line front fork gaiters and low ride hight that give the Nightster a post-WW II feel. But with today's power How much power? They slapped a fuel-injected, 1,200 cc V-Twin on it, finished in the same matte gray as the tranny and airbox cover. There's no over-chroming on this street beast. If you get into your car this afternoon and notice a heap of melted plastic, it's probably your iPod or any other tech gadget that was left in the car.

When temperatures outside get into the 90s, the inside of a car can easily heat up to 145 degrees. Those gadgets are no match for this excessive heat.

"It can affect batteries. It'll certainly start to fry your little microcircuits inside of your electronic devices," says David Graveline, a host of a syndicated radio show about consumer electronics.

Graveline also says that the iPod safety guide recommends storing the gadget in a place between -4 and 113 degrees fahrenheit.

The muscular Ford Mustang GT-R rekindles the legendÌs road racing glory and the magic of 5.0-litre Mustangs and hints at a potential future race car.

WHEN IS AN APPLE NOT AN APPLE ?

Apple have unveiled the latest incarnation of the iMac and once again are promoting the one-piece computer as more of a piece of sculpture than a bit of IT kit. Like much in the world of contemporary design, materials count for a lot. Apple have made much of the aluminium and glass used to make the iMac, materials which are perhaps more at home in an architectural context. However, it wasn't the architectural similarities that grabbed our attention, rather it was the way the glass-plated LCD resembled an automotive windscreen. With the sheen of the aluminium case topped off with the chrome apple logo, we knew it looked a little like something else... an Audi! Possibly.

Although this connection may be a little tenuous, there is an established link between product and automotive design. There have been many collaborations between automotive designers and watch companies, sportswear manufacturers and other industries. On this occasion it may be that the reverse is true: qualities that make a car desirable influence the design of a product.

If it really was the case that the design style of a brand like Audi influenced the design of the iMac, maybe, in a similar way to the evolution of the TT, we could expect to see further 3D form development of the iMac in future generations. Audi's design style has become more organic and sinewy of late, moving to less rigid, more fluid forms. Perhaps, when simplicity is exhausted as a design style, Apple may follow Audi down the road even further to a place where machines are elegently sculpted objects and possessing something is just as important as using it.
