25th Anniversary on the Air!

It started on a small radio station in north San Diego 25 years ago, and has now grown to become Southern California’s Sportfishing Voice to thousands of southland anglers. Let’s Talk Hook-up, heard every Saturday and Sunday 7am to 9am on The Mighty 1090AM Sports Radio will celebrate the beginning of their 26th year on the air on September 10th, 2016. Founder and host Pete Gray’s concept of a fishing talk show on the radio began in September 1991 as a one hour show Sunday . The first guest on the program was long range fishing pioneer Bill Poole. Poole told Gray- “I think you have something here”, and the program grew from there.

The history of the program includes veteran actor Marty Milner who joined the program as co-host in 1994. Marty stayed with the show until October 2004 when health problems forced him to retire. Stepping in to fill the co-host slot was “Rock Cod” Rick Maxa, as he is affectionately know as on the show. Rick had been a part of Let’s Talk Hook-up for over 20 years, starting as the telephone screener at age 14, and now co-host. Rick also is a manager at Fishermans Landing Tackle Shop.

Let’s Talk Hook-up features different experts guests on every program, and has the best fishing reporters from southern California and baja waters and host trips from Alaska to Panama. Sport fishing licenses on sale beginning November 15th, 2015.

Valid January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015 *Fees include 5% License Agent Handling Fee and 3% Nonrefundable Application Fee

A Sport Fishing License and the appropriate validations are required for any person who is 16 years of age or older to take fish, mollusks, crustaceans, invertebrates, amphibians or reptiles in inland or ocean waters. See below for report card requirements.

Allows an angler to fish with two rods or lines in inland waters, except those waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used.

Required for ocean fishing south of Point Arguello (Santa Barbara County)
Report Cards
All anglers must have the appropriate report cards in possession while fishing; including anglers under 16 years of age, anglers fishing on free fishing days, and anglers who fish from a public pier in ocean waters.
Abalone Report Card (available February 15, 2015)	22.42
Required for taking abalone from ocean waters between the center of the mouth of the San Francisco Bay and the California-Oregon border.
North Coast Salmon Report Card	$6.22
Required for taking salmon in the Klamath-Trinity and Smith River Systems.

Blue Ribbon Task Force Nearing Recommendation on Recreational Fishing Access in the South Coast - Take Action! Letters from anglers and boaters needed to persuade BRTF to support Proposal 2

The Situation

At its upcoming October 20-22 meeting, the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF) is scheduled to vote on which marine protected area (MPA) proposal to recommend for the South Coast under the state's Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA). The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO), which represents the interests of recreational anglers and boaters, is supporting Proposal 2 for the South Coast. Proposal 2 places MPAs in locations with a high level of conservation while minimizing the economic impact on local communities and still allows anglers maximum access to fishing. It is the only proposal that truly reflects the spirit of conservation.

1. Cut a 20-inch piece of heavy fishing line and loop it around the hook's bend.
2. Push down on the far end of the shank until it touches the skin.
3. Quickly jerk the line straight back. The barb should pop right out.
