I LOOOOOVE Brookline! I used to spend tons of time there, sitting on this one stone wall...that's another story, but I do love Brookline. I also love the Salt Lake farmer's market. I could see wanting to live in either place.

Just remember if you make the move, there is a certain "grass is greener" mentality that sets in. Also, the model home deception. You fall in love with an image or presentation of what something is, but there is never the perfect community. You'll do what is right for you and your family, but sometimes I have to remind myself when I have one of these whims that it may just be a moment of frustration.

That said, I share your sentiment of suburbia manicuring to the point of losing personality. I really like the idea of a walking community. But what makes it appealing is the COMMUNITY part. It's like the difference between just a house and a home. It will be fun to see where your whim takes you.

Hi I just found this website today. Our son Brady had almost the exact same type of macrodactyly as your son Liam except Brady's was on his left foot. He had hid two middle toes amputated when he was nine months old. He is now eight years old and doing great. We have to buy him two pairs of shoes when he needs new ones because he has a difference of two sizes and he also needs a lift on his right shoe because the bulkiness of his left foot and a slight leg lenghth difference. He is now starting to become aware that he is "different'' than the other kids and this is something we knew would happen. He doesn't believe us when we tell him there is other kids like him in the world with this condition and I can sympothize with him. We just do our best and try to instill as much confidence in him as we can. WE would love to talk with other parents about this so please drop us a line at: jenandrick@hfx.eastlink.ca

Hi we are parents of a eight year old boy who was born with macrodactyly of his left foot. When he was nine months old he had his third and fourth toes removed. He also has lipomotosis in his left leg buttocks and on his back. We were told by his plastic surgeon that if he had lipo done it would more than likely come back. Were you told the same thing? I am so excited to be potentially talking to someone on line who's child has the same issues. Our son does not believe us when we tell him there is other kids out there with the same issues as him and we understand why. We have not had any contact with anyone who has had macrodactyly so could you please reply.
Thank you so much

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for writing about your lovely son Liam. I was born with macrodactyly of the right arm and hand.I have three digits on the hand, the index finger was amputated at approximately the age of 3. The thumb and small finger are the two which look relatively regular in shape but the thumb is still large. My hand actually looks pretty similar to Liam.

As a child with marcodactyly, I knew that my hand looked different but I never felt any different to my peers at school and in my teens. If anything, I got myself involved in all school activities, from the softball team to amateur dramtaics. This is largely thanks to my loving family who never treated me any differently, provided me with support but ensured that I pitched in all my chores the same as every one else!

I am now 33 years old, I have a successful career and always live ife to the full thanks to my amazing parents.

I thave read all your stories on this board which lead me to confirm my thoughts that macrodactyly is a gift which has provided us with determination, compassion and empathy which makes us special human beings. There are ofcourse those occassions when that is not easy, such as now being I'm at an age where my friends are getting married and having children of their own; which is what I would love but that is when my family and good friends are there to pick me up!

With such amazing parents, Liam will be absoluely fine and in fact, will achieve more than most in life.
