Hold Up Their Arms

A short while after Moses and the people of Israel miraculously passed through the Red Sea, "the Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites" (Exodus 17:8). The Israelites did not have the power to win this battle on their own, so Moses sent Joshua to the battlefield and then climbed to the top of a hill: "I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands" (Exodus 17:9).

God had previously demonstrated His power as Moses raised his staff to part the Red Sea (Exodus 14:16). He had also told Moses to use his staff to cause water to flow out of a rock (Exodus 17:5-6). Moses was now trusting God to demonstrate His power once again as he lifted this same staff in battle.

Exodus 17:11-13
"As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up - one on one side, one on the other - so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword."

Moses knew what he had to do, but he simply became worn out. Fortunately for the people of Israel, Moses had two trusted companions who stood by his side and were willing to hold up his arms until the battle was won.

Many people have committed their lives to fighting the battle for the Kingdom of God. These, who are daily on the front lines, feel greatly outnumbered and are prone to grow weary. They desperately need an Aaron and a Hur to come alongside with prayer and encouragement.

فكرة خيالية تخيلها احد الكتاب لينقل وجهة نظره في موضوع معين

وقد اعجبتني الفكره في حد ذاتها

ولياذن لي كاتب الفكره في طرح مايدور

في ذهني . ومن نعمة الله علي الانسان ان وهبه الخيال والحس والتأمل.

وهي الميزه الوحيده التي ميز الله بها الانسان عن الكائينات الاخري .

حامل في شهرها التاسع .وجاء موعد ولادتها .واستخدمت معها كل المحاولات .ولكن ولادتها تعذرت وتعثرت. وبكت بكاءً شديدً .فسمعت صوتا من داخلها-

لماذا تبكين ياأمي . ؟

أجابت الآم:لآنك لاتريد ان تخرج قال الطفل:انا مستعد ان اخرج ولكن بشروط-

الآم:ماهي الشروط يابني. وانا انفذها لك علي عيني

الطفل: فقط اريد ان اعرف وضعي بعد ان اخرج.

اولا ماهو وضعكم المالي ومامركزكم في المجتمع

الآم: وضعنا المالي لابأس به أبوك موظف في الحكومه .

ونحن نسكن في حي متوسط

الطفل : وهل عندكم عقارات واراضي ومدخرات في البنوك ومانوع السياره التي تستعملونها؟

الآم: يابني احنا عندنا الستر وعندنا كفاية اليوم

الطفل: هل عندكم اطفال غيري؟

الآم: عندنا اربعة بنات ياحبيبي وانت الخامس

الطفل: وياتري عندكم كام حجره ؟

الآم: يابني انت تعبتني ليه كل الآسئله دي

الطفل: خلاص انا عارف كل حاجه .سؤال واحد اخير . ماديانتكم؟

الآم: الحمد لله احنا ارثوذكس.

الطفل: هل هذا دين جديد؟

ألآم: يابني دي طائفه مسيحيه من ضمن الطوائف المسيحيه.

الطفل:

وليه المسيحيه طوائف ومين الي قسم المسيحيه

وليه انتم اخترتم الطائفه دي ؟

الآم :يابني احنا اب عن جد ودي الطائفه المستقيمة

ودي حاجات اكبر من مخك دلوقتي

الطفل:وهي الطوائف الباقيه مش مستقيمه

الآم :يابني احنا مالناش دخل في ده والكل بيعبد ربنا بطريقته وربنا عارف القلوب واللي حيضحك هنا في الدنيا مش هايعرف يضحك في الآخره.

الطفل: وازاي حاجي في عالم قسموا كل حاجه فيه.

المجتمع والدين واm في بيت ماعرفش كام حجره .وقلتي لاسياره ولا مدخرات وعايزاني اخرج وانا وحظي.

وتفرحوا لما تجيبوا طفل وهو يقاسي طول العمر.

ألآم: يابني دي حال الدنيا.

الطفل: هي دي حال الدنيا: طفل يتربي في نعيم وطفل يتربي في جحيم وهي مسألة .قدر ولا حظ.

كان نفسي اكون ابن وزير ولا ابن رجل اعمال ولا حتي رجل دين اعيش في قصر واتعلم في مدرسه وجامعه خاصه.

ويكون لي سياره خاصه وفلوس تتكتب بأسمي في البنوك . والف العالم والناس تحترمني وتكرمني .

انا مش خارج ولاطالع يامي.

الآم : انت تعبتني وانا غلطانه الي سمعت لسفصئتك وتخرج غصب عنك ولو بشق البطن"

Below is the schedule for Archangel Michael Church:

- Wednesday 1/23, There will not be a liturgy.

- Friday 1/25, Liturgy from 9-11:30 am, Hymn Class for everyone with ELmoalem Hany from 6:30-7:30pm.

- Saturday 1/26, No Liturgy. Sunday School from 5:30 - 7Pm,

Vesper and Bible Study will be from 7-8:15pm then Midnight Prayers and praises.

- Sunday 1/27 Liturgy will be from 8-11:30 am. Deacons Review from 12noon.

The Sayings of Fathers:

Abba Poemen said of Abba Nisterus that he was like the serpent of brass which Moses made for the healing of the people: he possessed all virtue and without speaking, he healed everyone.

The angel when giving the rules of monasticism to St. Pachomius said to him: "... He laid down that in the course of the day they should make twelve prayers, and at the lamp-lighting time twelve, and in the nightly vigils twelve, and at the ninth hour three. When the multitude goes to eat, he laid down that a psalm should be sung before each prayer. As Pachomius objected to the angel that the prayer were too few ..."

AMBITION

Man is created in God's image and likeness. God is unlimited. Therefore, although man is limited, he has deep inside him, a longing for the unlimited. For the same reason, man longs for immortality and eternal life. It also explains man's longing for perfection and that is why people have ambitious feelings in them...

An indolent person is not in God's image while the one who has the godly image says, like St. Paul, "...forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which

are ahead." (Phil. 3:13) This is a spiritual ambition, where everyone seeks spiritual perfection. And according to his perfect idealism, whatever he reaches seems as nothing, so he forgets it and keeps on progressing... That is how the saints' humility originated and their toil in

struggle. That is also how the spiritual growth originated... This type of ambition is acceptable and is needed as a virtue and nobody objects to it. But there is the wrong ambition for material things. For example, the rich fool who said, "I will pull down my barns and build greater.. and I will say to my soul you have many goods laid up for many years." (Luke 12:18) What are the faults in the materialistic ambition?

[1] The first fault is that the heart becomes attached to material things in a way that controls its feelings and time, and kills any other spiritual desire.

[2] The second fault is that a person gets involved in competitions that would cause him the loss of his love for others and tempts him to build his own personal glory on the rubble of others, clashing with people and destroying them. Like a person whose ambition is to be first or to be head, so he tries to get rid of all his rivals...

[3] The third fault is when ambition turns into greediness or avidity that is never satisfied, no matter how much this person gains or achieves.

[41 The fourth fault is when the means to reach one's ambition is wrong or not spiritual. By this, man destroys some of his ideals and spiritualism to reach his target...

[51 Ambition could be for authority and changes the person into a dictator, destroying whoever stands in his way of influence...

[6] One might forget his eternity in all these types of ambitions and his bearings become completely worldly.

THE HOUSE BEHIND THE WEEDS

Just two little boys walking down a dusty lane
They came upon this old white house with broken window panes.

The paint was faded, the shine was gone, the grass had grown so high
Still they made their little feet go see what was inside.

They opened up the squeaky door and then it came to light
This must have been an old church house once upon a time.

Dirty, dusty wooden pews, a pulpit that still stood
A bible laid upon it, though the pages weren't too good.

An offering plate and song books too were lying on the floor
They must have left this old church fast the day they closed these doors.

And over in the corner a piano was still there
It must have played a pretty tune, but I guess nobody cared.

So little Bill looked up at Tommy and Tommy looked at Bill
"Why don't we clean this old church up and get these old pews filled?"

They took a rag and wiped the dust to try and make things shine
And then they took the offering plate and put in it their last dime.

They took a broom and swept the floor and picked up broken glass
They got it all so nice and neat, and then they mowed the grass.

They lifted up the old church sign and stood it by a tree
Right down by that old dirt road where everyone could see.

They ran back home to find Daddy gone, but their Momma was inside
Just to find her hurt again where Daddy had made her cry.

"Don't cry Momma, wipe those tears," Little Bill and Tommy smiled
"Cause we have a big surprise for you just down the road a mile."

Hand in hand they tugged at her until they made her run
"What is it Bill, Oh Tommy, just what have you two kids done?"

And then they came upon the house once hidden by the weeds
And there it stood, a country church, just like it used to be.

"But what is it, Mother, what's with your tears? We thought this would bring you joy."
"Yes, but hush kids now and listen close, my two sweet precious boys."

They both got quiet and stood real still, for the words they heard so true
Was Daddy praying in the church with his head bowed on the pew.

"Forgive me Lord! Forgive me Lord! Though I'm not worthy of Your love
But shine down on this sinner man sweet Salvation from above."

"For I've been out in the world, You know, living my life all wrong
Until I came upon this church, the place where I belong."

"I never noticed it before, all those times I passed it up

And then he raised his head and stood with his hands high in the air
To find two, dirty, tear-faced boys with Momma standing there.

They ran up to him, hugged him tight, as their tears fell on the floor
"Don't worry kids, I'm not the Dad, the one you've known before."

"Things are different for us now, so keep on those pretty smiles
And let's go gather people in to walk down these church aisles."

Then Bill looked up at Tommy and Tommy looked at Bill
"Come on brother, let's get to work to get these old pews filled."

"For we need no special blessing for cleaning up this church
Cause God gave us back our Daddy, and that's more than gold is worth."

Sunday morning, pews all filled, and smiles on every face
Especially two little country boys , the ones who found this place.

Though it was hid back in the weeds and so far out of sight
Nothing's ever hard to find...if you're walking toward God's light.

GENTLE WORDS

The spiritual person never uses harsh words, but gentle ones, because gentleness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Are you known by the gentleness of your words and dealings?

+ Look at the Lord Jesus when He was talking to the Samaritan woman. Although she was very sinful, Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband', for you have had five husbands and the one whom you now have is not your husband.." (John 4:17-18) The word "husbands" is very gentle, as they were not husbands but the Lord did not use the other harsh word. His saying, "The one whom you now have is not yours" is the most gentle expression that does not include any word that could hurt her feelings...

+ Instead of hurting people, try to win them..

+ St. Paul, the apostle, when he entered Athens, became angry as he found the city full of idols. Still he addressed them gently, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious... "

+ When God talked about Job, he praised him by gentle words, saying to the devil, "... that man was blame-less and upright and one who feared God and shunned evil." As a matter of fact, nobody is blameless except God alone...

+ How gentle was God's talk about Nineveh, the sinful city of the gentiles, whose people did not know their right from left. God said, "And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city." Was Nineveh really great or is it God's gentleness?...

+ The names God gave to people are another example of His gentleness. He called Simon (Peter) which means rock and called Abram (Abraham) which means the father of multitudes...

They are all names that carry praise...

+ Among the saints who were famous for their gentle words is St. Didymus the Blind, head of the Theological School in the 4th century. He never aimed at overcoming people but winning them. He never tried to destroy them but convince them.

+ God condemned harsh words by. saying, "... whoever says to his brother, 'Raca' shall be in danger of the Council. But whoever says, 'You fool', shall be in danger of hell fire." (Matt. 5:22) God does not accept harsh words as He is gentle and loving, His mouth is full of sweetness and his lips drop honey.

Carry Us to Completion “Philippians 1:6”

A great tragedy within the Christian faith is that many who believe they are on their way to Heaven will one day find they are sadly mistaken. They have been misled into believing that Church membership, being “good,” or working extra hard will ensure Salvation; but on the day of judgment they will be cast aside. This tragedy must be fought by speaking the truth about Salvation. We must teach of the need to trust in the saving grace offered through the sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of sin. We must teach that faith in Jesus Christ – the Lord and Savior clearly presented in God’s Word – is the ONLY way!

A second tragedy is that many who have truly trusted in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin, and desire to love Him and serve Him with all their heart, will live their days full of doubt and fear. They are on their way to Heaven but doubt when they don’t feel “good enough” to deserve such a gift, and they fear a Holy God who couldn’t possibly save one so unworthy. As they draw closer to the Light, their failures are revealed and they become discouraged or try to “work” harder to please God and gain His acceptance. We must also fight this tragedy by speaking the truth about Salvation.

The glorious truth is that none of us are good enough! “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Without God’s grace, no one can ever hope to hit the mark of His perfect glory.

We don’t enter Heaven based on what we’ve done; rather, we are accepted based on the One in whom we’ve placed our faith; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith” (Ephesians 2:8). At the moment of Salvation, we become an eternal Child of God; “You are not your own; you were bought at a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We were purchased with His blood and have become a “new creation: the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). But a new creation does not continue down the same path.

We are “born again” when the Spirit of God transforms our heart. And as a new creation, we will learn to crawl, then walk, and one day run! We may stumble, but God promises we will continue to grow; for it is His plan that ALL His children become “conformed to the likeness of His Son” (Romans 8:29)…and being conformed is a lifetime process!

Philippians 1:6
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

God has given us His Holy Spirit and “sealed {us} for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). Let’s be confident in God’s promise. We must continue to draw closer and give Him more of our heart, but we must also remember that we are His and He WILL finish the work He began. Our Heavenly Father has saved us AND promised to carry us to completion.

My mother, my gem, what beauty she holds
Her worth is far greater than rubies or gold.
She was created by God and sent from above
And the first gem she gives me is the gemstone of LOVE.

A love unconditional, she loves at all time
Her love never fails me for, you see, it's sublime.
The second gem she gives me is GUIDANCE each day
As she follows the Lord and shows me the way.

He gave her the knowledge through His Holy Birth
To pass on to me for survival on earth.
But the ultimate goal at the end of her miles
Is to hear her God say, "Well done, my child."

Then came the third gem God gave with no price
And with His great wisdom came the gem of SACRIFICE.
A Mother who's true to God's Holy Word
Will lay down her life and not a sigh will be heard.

She will give all she owns and never ask why
To keep safe those God loaned her from heaven on high.
Next comes the fourth gem, and she will walk through the fire
To give all that is needed to ENCOURAGE and INSPIRE.

Whatever my task or the choices I make
She'll help me get through with fewer mistakes.
She fears the Lord and for this she is praised
And her faith will be rewarded at the end of her days.

Then comes the fifth gem of COURAGE, not fear
She teaches me to listen just so I may hear.
I have Satan to battle every minute of each day
But God is the answer if I'll follow His way.

She is always there, be it day or night
To build up my courage and teach me what's right.
Many women do noble things, but she surpasses them all

Last but not least is the gemstone of PRAYER
She spends hours on her knees to keep me safe in His care.
She teaches me daily that life's trials can be long
But if I'll have faith God will help me be strong.

She can be soft and tender but tough when it's time
For she loves me unselfishly and her love is entwined
Around the heart of God and then back to me
For she gives me her love unconditionally.

She is my Mother, my Gemstone, so precious and rare
And I'm so thankful God placed me safe in her care.
