Summerizing Your Coffee Table

The fabulous Emily Henderson recently teamed up with One Kings Lane to make this fun (and quick) how-to video on styling your coffee table. I thought it would be an easy way to help "summerize" your living or family room.

The five elements of a styled coffe table.

1. Start with a tray

2. Add some height

3. A box for storage

4. Something sculptural

5. Interesting books

I'm featuring a very talented painter in my Joy & Revelry shop right now. Yangyang Pan has such an amazing eye for bright colors and textures. She's the perfect artist for summer, wouldn't you agree?

Her prints are all very modern and use a combination of texture and pops of color to make an impression. And starting at just $31 they're a steal! I want a couple for the art walls in my bathrooms, but haven't decided on which ones yet. Here are a few that have caught my eye.

Have you seen the fun pop-up shop from Olga Turnage at Elegant Touch on my Joy & Revelry store yet? There are some gorgeous pillows to choose from, you can check it out here.

Olga is a Momtrepreneur and started designing and producing pillows when her son was born. I just love inspiring stories like that, don't you? Here's Olga's story in her own words:

The concepts of Elegant touch was born alongside my son in 2005. As a mother I decided to trade in my career to enjoy motherhood and just “simple life”. I’ve attended certified interior decorating courses along with professional classes in soft home furnishings at Custom Home Furnishings academy in Charlotte NC. It is the only teaching facility of its kind dedicated to educating people with professional skills necessary to home decor industry. I started my business in 2007 and worked mostly for designers by making window treatments, bedding and pillows. Since then I've been dedicated to providing the highest standards for custom made pillows.

Elegant Touch was the first place that I ever purchased a designer pillow (back in 2010). Before then, I had always gotten pillows at places like Target and Ross. And let me tell you, a good quality, unique pillow like this is definitely worth the price difference.

I have this gorgeous graphite Bengal Bazaar pillow gracing corner in my living room right now. Doesn't it make a statement? Love it!

Anatomy of a Photoshoot

Most of you that have already joined Joy & Revelry will recognize the photo below. I thought it would be fun to go through the creative process of a creating this finished shot.

During the Joy & Revelry Style Summit all of the mavens had the opportunity to create and style vignettes to feature in our shops. My office photo ended up being my favorite image. I'll show you what it took to get there!

I love the rustic, comfortable and cozy quality of this corner. The wood and leather create the perfect backdrop for the drama of the black and white striped accents.

The Inspiration

I collected a bunch of images that had the look and feel of the direction I was going for.

THE LOCATION

This is the only image of the room I got to see before arriving the day of the photoshoot. I went with my gut and knew this would be the perfect space to create the dark, cozy office/library nook I was wanting.

I combined the products I wanted to feature, along with some fun props and ideas from the inspiration images above. I think the style board and the end result ended up pretty close, don't you?

And again the final result

It was so fun creating this space from a blank canvas. And it was pretty satisfying seeing a space you only pictured in your mind, created in real life. Too bad I had to disassemble it after 15 minutes of capturing it on ~~film~~ disc ;) Oh well, at least it will always exist digitally!

Ranch House Redo | The Current State of Things

We've lived in the new (to us) house now for almost 5 months now (w.o.w.) and the only rooms that have been done are the front bathroom (part one & part two) and master bath. Can you tell I'm a procrastinator? Although, like I've said before, I like to get the feel of place before I start diving in. I think 5 months is a pretty solid "feel". Time to get the party started. And, yes, maybe my nesting phase has started.

Before I get too crazy with To-Do lists and the like, let me go back and summarize our situation for those of you who aren't familiar with it. Back in February, we moved - into the Grandparent's house. Don't worry they're great, they're just in a retirement home now. And the Mr, Arden and I, gladly volunteered to live in their vacant house. Hello three bedrooms!

Now here's where it gets a little sticky. The house hasn't been updated much and we're not really in the position to renovate, now matter how much I might wish! Living here is the perfect opportunity to save up to buy Copy Cat Chic casa #2 (our first home sold last year). That being said we don't have a lot of money to put into updating G&G's house, especially if we want to get a good deposit together for our future home. So most of the updating we'll be doing will be smaller projects and cosmetic fixes on a *small* budget.

So I've posted some pictures below of how the house looks today (Click here for pics on how it looked when we moved in). And just to be clear, I haven't tidied up or decluttered, I'm keeping it real folks. This is how it looks every. single. day. Glamorous, I know ;) Let's get on with the show, shall we?

This room doesn't bother me too much. We really need to hang some art in here though. The Mr hung some random stuff up willy-nilly on the hooks already in the wall. It makes me laugh ;) As you can see the ocean art has kept it's place (for now).

And for those of you who voted in the great dining chair debate. You can finally see the results. Yes, I went with the minority, to the Mr's dismay ;) But I'm super happy and my tushie is super comfy. So all around a great choice.
