Banksy, one of my absolute favourite artists, PERIOD, was not only in my town, but did the following mural RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME . Ok, i need to get a hold of myself, but it's the fact that he's anonymous that's so intriguing maybe, and also the fact that I, quite possibly, walked right past him without realizing it LOL. Too bad it was taken down. Curl Up & Dye ladies, you get my respect for trying. The article below gives more details.

Geographic context: While there are moves to rebrand this neighborhood as the Cultural Corridor, or let Midtown annex it, Detroiters who love Detroit will always call this neighborhood the Cass Corridor. Home to John Sinclair, the MC5 and White Panther Party in the late-'60s, it's continued on as a rebellious womb for music, literature and visual art. The '67 riots took their toll, but so did crack in the '80s. Then it was a hotbed for car theft through the '90s. Even the Cass Corridor of five years ago varies drastically from it today, thanks in large part to the entrepreneurial youths into community planning and urban gardening.

This piece was painted on a building that's up for lease in the heart of what is the Corridor's current resurrection, or re-gentrification, depending on who you ask [ i must interject: its re-gentrification in every sense of the word, and i have far too many stories and accounts to write here; another story for another day] . It was located directly across the street from punk-chic Curl Up & Dye salon, down the street from the Hub of Detroit bike shop, Canine to Five doggy day care, the Cass Cafe artist hangout and the studios of 101.9 WDET. It's also just around the corner from hip boutiques, microbreweries, galleries and eateries, such as the new Midtown Shangri-La Chinese bistro location, where Banksy likely ate. (Photographer Billy Voo found red paint-stained Shangri-La menus, a recent New York Times crossword puzzle, and a used red spray-paint top all in the same spot at the Packard location.)

Fate: Banksy chose a building surrounded by a batch of successful independent businesses and recent construction to make way for new ones. The "for lease" sign was new, and the property clean for your average vacant Corridor building. Gabriel Schuchman, vice president of the real estate company LaKritz-Weber, didn't return our calls, but we can only assume that he was ignorant to the social and monetary value of the Bansky on his wall. So out came the power-washer and, despite the pleas from the ladies at Curl Up, it was buffed out, leaving a ghostly charcoal outline against the gray slab. That wall with Banksy was worth at least twice as much as the whole property's asking price.

so against my better judgement I started watching V...and then remembered I still had two seasons of heroes to catch up on, so that was CLEARLY the end of that!

Last night, I randomly watched two movies, sort of, and the one i thought was gonna be awesome turned out to be horrible beyond belief, and the other surpisingly amazing.

Street Fighter

no i don't know what type of hype it did or didn't have, but this movie had my jaw dropping...the script was soo weak , even though i love lana from smallville and moon bloodgood (i think thats her name, anyways theyre both really cool to me)...but the movie was such a FAIL. They completely butchered the oldschool game I once loved playing on my uncle's computer as a little kid.... too many what the HELL were they thinking moments....this one part at this bangkok club really just had me confused...i mean WHY?? newayzz, the next movie was:

Rome Adventure

Why did I watch a movie from '62 with my tv that had all kinds of squigly lines running thru it i have no idea. After you get past the fact that she quit her job (main character) because she was about to get fired anyways.........for letting a student read her ROMANCE novel (the blasphemy!)....to go to Itlay 'where they know what love is' [insert eye roll here] ...it actually gets really interesting. i swear these oldies continually surprise me. Oh, how i hate the glorification of European cultures for all things ideal. I mean, really, first of all, i thought the french spoke the language of love and the italians have the best food...right?

i've noticed a theme in the type of shows i watch and the ones i love the most. tonight i'm on a mission to finish two out of the three shows i'm bout to mention. What i love most about all three of these is that they all deal with more main characters than usual, each with their own unique stories though so you really get into it, and all are connected to one another in some way, shape, or form. It's funny because it makes me think about how many times I wonder to myself what a small world it is, and yet the more people we meet and the older we get, it continues to get smaller and not the other way around like we'd like to assume. Anywho, check che che check check 'em out! (unless you're already awesome like that and watched them already)

so i just started watching this show flash forward for the last couple days, and i'm glad i did. i dont go to sleep before 5 am every night, but i'm very ok with that at the moment and enjoying every minute of it.

this show is DEEP lol. no really, it is. great storyline. so i don't wanna give away the story, i literally had no idea what it was about but the first two minutes into the show and you get the idea pretty much. For two minutes and 17 seconds the entire world supposedly blacked out. What happened during that blackout is that they saw a glimpse of their futures at an exact time six months from then. So throughout the whole show, the same themes replay out in different characters. If you knew your future, does that somehow make life easier, knowing what it all leads up to? It makes you question whether knowing what the future entails allows you to still live in the now, when we already question that very possibility when we DONT know the future. Fate or free will? Or a little bit of both? What do you believe in? Personally, I believe in both, their interconnectedness only making more sense as i got older. Would you do something just because you can? you have the resources, the means and the capabilities, would you do it just for the hell of it or use your energy for something you're totally unsure about? This show was very timely, let me just tell you, and makes you think about a lot of things. Back to my marathon. Toodles.

random things about the show : they totally made up 'the ganwar region of Somalia' and them mentioning it twenty times an episode almost made me believe it was real.

a big piece of the puzzle was in the tiger stadium in detroit (also mentioned twenty times/epi).

the fact that these two places i'm connected to were referenced to without the usual stereotypical connotations blew my mind lol. oh but canada.... yeah they had a bit in toronto, and of course the character had to say 'eh' but hey, at least get it right and say it in someway that even remotely sounds believable......hollywood smh.

I remember watching every episode of this when it came on what feels like a million years ago. Ozwald Boateng chose an unconventional path, and excelled at it by redefining the classic cool. Not only did his show rock, but he's one of the leading mens designers, and (according to wiki just now) was the first tailor to grace the catwalks of Paris.
