“It felt like an adrenaline rush.  We were actually listening to the music being performed, not just a tape or something.” Carah K.

“I liked it that at the end of each song, the orchestra stood up and bowed. It was like they appreciated us listening.” Payton Y.

“It was really cool. I liked the Charles Ives’ piece best because the songs overlapped. I heard the melody to The Ants Go Marching Two by Two, and London Bridges.” Jasper E.

“I really liked Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.  The short, short, short, long melody kept playing over and over.  It was phenomenal!  Kennedy P.

The Funky Monkeys will have their spring program on Tuesday, April 10th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Grade School Gym.  Please be in the music room at 6:15 p.m. Be sure to wear your Funky Monkey t-shirt!  MONKEY PRIDE!!!!

The Funky Monkeys will be going to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall to listen to a Young People’s Concert performed by the Oregon Symphony on Thursday, March 8th.  If you have been called to chaperon, please be in the music room at 9:15 a.m. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to chaperon.  What a terrific community of music supporters we have!

There are still a few students who do not have their permission slips turned in to me.  Your child may only attend if written permission has been given by you and received by me.  Please ask your child about his/her permission slip if you have not filled one out yet.  Don’t forget to wear your Funky Monkey t-shirt! MONKEY PRIDE!!!!

I have received many requests asking if I video taped the program, but ARRRRRRGH, I did not.  If ANYONE recorded either/both the “Pirate Quest” programs, please contact me.  I too, would love to have a copy and maybe we could figure out how to make copies available to those families who would like to have this wonderful keepsake. Ahoy there, Mateys! It’s time for the Primary Grades to sing a jolly tune for all ye’ land lubbers!

• WHO:  Primary Classes BOTH Corbett Charter and Corbett Grade Schools
• WHAT: Primary Music Program, “A Pirate’s Quest . . . “
• WHEN: Tuesday, February 21st – Corbett Charter School / Thursday, February 23rd – Corbett Grade School
• WHERE: MPB Stage
• TIME 6:30 p.m. performance. Have your Pirate in his/her regular classroom at 6:15 p.m.
• ATTIRE: All things PIRATE!  Pirate hats, bandannas, dirty faces, cut off pants or those with patches, solid color shirt (frilly white?), or a bold striped t-shirt,  boots, sash, thick black belt with a big buckle, or even a rope tied around the waist . . . use your imaginations and have fun with this!  Please, NO patches over the eye or swords.  The sawing off of a lower limb for a peg leg or hands for a hook is strictly prohibited! Ha!

Make sure your scallywag is ready for our voyage or YOU will WALK THE PLANK! Arrrrrgh

1.  Wednesday, December 14, 2011 . . . 6:45 p.m. to music room to warm-up for performance at the District School Board meeting at 7:00 p.m.  Music is fabulously supported by the students, parents, both school boards, administrators, and the PTA.  Performing is one way for us to stay in the public eye and show our appreciation for the continued support.

2.  Thursday, December 15, 2011 . . . BUSY DAY!

a)  8:15 a.m. Cardinal Choir will perform for and along with the Grade School students in a school-wide sing-along!

b) 1:00 p.m. Cardinal Choir will perform for the residents at the Village Retirement Center in Gresham.

Keep those blue Cardinal Choir t-shirts handy . . . . they are getting a lot of use this Christmas season!

The Cardinal Choir is on the agenda to perform for our school board at the next school board meeting, Wednesday, December 14, 2011!  This is a very important way for us to stay in the public eye and demonstrate the quality and value of music to our children.  Music is fabulously supported by the students, parents, both school boards, administrators, and PTA. Performing is one way we can show our appreciation for the continued support.

Please have your Cardinal Choir member to the Grade School music room at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14^th.  We will warm-up and then head over to the Grade School cafeteria where the meetings are held.  The Choir will perform at the beginning of the meeting after the agenda is read, so please be on time.  Don’t forget to send your choir member proudly wearing his/her blue Cardinal Choir t-shirt!

Thank you so much for helping us share the message that participation in music makes a profound impact on our development as complete individuals, full of intellect, history, soul, and passion.  Each member is so important to the success of the group.

Also . . . THANK YOU to everyone who attended our performance at the Grotto on Monday.  What a robust audience we had!!!  YOU are much appreciated.  The Grotto recorded our performance and it was so much fun to hear your reaction to each songs’ achievement.  . . . So encouraging!
