Marketing and event managers can simply post their own webinars at the Webinar Today LinkedIn Group. They will then be added to the search engine.

There is no charge for any of this – just think of us when your business needs require a live video webcast production team, or you want help incorporating video into your next web seminar.

To recap, simply join our LinkedIn Group and create a new discussion using the event title as the subject and add a short description. Make sure to include the link to the webinar landing page. (That link gets added to our search engine so it should include a description of the event, not just a registration form.) That’s all there is to it!

Jeremiah was an analyst with Forrester before joining the Altimeter Group, and is a thought leader in the social media space. He makes some good observations in this video, and is always an entertaining presenter.

Coreography is a sponsor of the SVAMA, and produced this clip from one of their panel events. This is a good example of how you can record an event and then create clips to increase your reach and drive awareness and visibility. You could also use this approach to generate leads by capturing registration before providing access to the complete archive.

On viewing the slide below, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the leader of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan, remarked, “When we understand that slide, we’ll have won the war!”

This would be funny if the consequences weren’t so serious. In this recent article in the New York Times, they reveal the growing use of PowerPoint within the military and the backlash it’s creating.

In essence, PowerPoint is being used to replace more in-depth briefing papers, and its templated design encourages the elimination of complex details and nuanced conclusions.

The real argument is not against a complex graphic if its needed to support or clarify your argument, but the use of bulleted lists that cause the author to over-simplify and state conclusions like fact. The simple reality is that PowerPoint is not a good replacement for a written report, whether your in business or the military!

First, third party testing shows that where Flash can access GPU-based hardware acceleration (i.e. Windows), its performance is equal to HTML 5 and MPEG4. (Read more about the test at the Streaming Learning Center.) Its clear Apple has its own agenda here, and only time will tell if consumer complaints over flash support will move Apple to open its platform.

Second, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, still with 50%+ market share across all versions, does not support HTML 5 – this includes the most current version Internet Explorer 8 shipping with Windows 7. So HTML 5 playback is not an option for these users.

Finally, since Adobe Flash penetration still exceeds 99%, Flash is going to continue to be the preferred video playback medium on the web for the foreseeable future. Long-term Flash dominance is not as clear as mobile devices become increasingly important, but any change will be gradual.

If reaching Apple iPhone and iPad users now is critical, encode your on-demand content in MPEG4/H.264 format and it should playback fine. The HTML 5 specification, still in draft, does not yet support live streaming. For now you will need to use a proprietary client to stream live to iPhone and iPad devices.

For our part, we always use royalty-free music in our webcasts and recordings, but that is not always the case for our client presentations.

So in a nutshell:

Search ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC to see if anyone holds the copyright. These organizations represent over 95% of all songs ever written, including foreign songs. You can search by song title or performer.

Then follow the instructions at the site and pay your license fee. Fees for a copyright song range from $80 to $6,450 per event.

It’s not easy to keep the names and affiliations of a large panel of speakers straight. Not only is this confusing to your local audience, it can prevent them from asking directed questions to specific members of your panel.

When Coreography webcasts an event, we place the current speakers name and title on the live video (called lower thirds). But unless we send our program feed to the main projector, this does not help the local audience.

So what can you do?

If its a group panel discussion seated behind a table, consider using name placards in front of each speaker’s microphone. This takes a little pre-planning to execute, but should eliminate your local audience’s confusion.
