Tionol and CD Launch

I’m all piped out after the weekend with some mind-bending tunes from Jimmy Morrison at the Tionol and great tunes at the Spailpin for the club CD launch where we had 8 pipers playing at the same time. Dave Hegarty, chairman of Na Píobairí Uilleann, and reed-maker extraordinaire, spoke about his experiences with the club and piping in Cork in general.

Tomás O Canainn spoke a few words in his inimitable style bringing a smile to all.

Cork Pipers Club – A Tradition of Cork Piping

We’ve been busy recording a CD over the last few months in a follow-up to our tape from about 20 years ago! We are holding a launch night this Saturday April 28 at 7pm in An Spailpin on South Main St. Pipers on the CD include club stalwarts such as Dan O’Callaghan, Diarmaid Moynhihan and Ciaran Ryan with the effervescent Tomas O Canainn contributing a lovely track. Tomas will also be MC on the night so I’m sure he’ll have a few tales to tell!

Donncha Moynihan accompanies on a number of tracks and also did the recording for us as well as chasing us non-cooperative pipers so this recording wouldn’t have taken place without his enthusiasm and energy. We are delighted with how the CD has turned out and is great stock-take of piping in Cork at this stage. We hope you enjoy it too.

Tionol 2012 April 28-29

The Cork Pipers Club tionól for 2012 is on this coming weekend. We have beginner, improvers and reed-making classes. Please register in advance at the relevant link below so we have an idea of the numbers. We will be taking payment on the day, there is no online payment required.

The venue is the Wilton SMA Hall where we hold our regular classes. This year we have Rosaleen O’Leary and Jimmy Morrison teaching beginners and improver classes. Dave Hegarty is back to oversee the reed-making class again. Spaces are limited so please book early using the links above.

Class times are as follows:

Saturday – 10:00 to 17:00 with a break for lunch from 13:00-14:00

Sunday – 11:00 to 14:00

Spring Term 2012

Another year, another set of classes. Pipes classes start this Thursday at 8pm in the SMA Hall in Wilton. If you are going to attend these claseses, please email me at donal [at] corkpipersclub.com or send me a text if you have my number. As usual we have beginner and improver classes.

Summer Class Term – Register your interest

We are looking at the possibility of having a summer class term for 6 weeks starting this Thursday, May 5. If you are interested and didn’t get or respond to my text late last week please send me an email (donal at corkpipersclub dot com) to register your interest. We need to know as soon as possible in order to book the venue and teachers.
