However, I do find it incredibly strange that the fellow who argued that the President might have the authority to crush the testicles of a child thinks it’s an overreach of executive authority to require companies seeking federal government contracts to disclose their political contributions.

Governor Rick Perry wants YOU to help “turn the tide in Washington and stop these irresponsible bailouts!” Coincidentally, that appeal was made on the same day that he officially requested that the federal government bailout his state. And quite the bailout it was, too, as the federal funds were responsible for plugging up NINETY-SEVEN percent of Texas’ budget shortfall.

But..it seems that the esteemed Governor entirely forgot about his pleading with the federal government just over a month later, when he proudly declared that “No longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas."

It seems that the trickiest part about being a federal-government-hating conservative is trying to balance that with the total failure of your small-government-conservative philosophy.

A number I would like to see out there a bit more? The response to this question from the latest NBC/Washington Post Poll:

Do you think public employees who belong to a union and work for state government, city government, or a school district should have the same right to bargain when it comes to their health care, pension and other benefits as employees who belong to a union and work for private companies?

Yes - 77%
No - 19%
Not Sure - 4%

SEVENTY-SEVEN PERCENT. I think this is some pretty good evidence that the argument Republicans are trying to put forth that public sector unions are an entirely different beast than in the private sector is something that isn't resonating at all with Americans.

And I think ads like this one produced by ActBlue and Democracy For America are only helping to reinforce that message and keep the Democrats and unions on offense:

I feel that about 80% of political ads fall on the quality spectrum somewhere between Vern Fonk Insurance commercials and advertisements for lawyers wanting to help you with your DWIs.

When even Rasmussen is finding that 52% of Wisconsinites are supporting the Democrats and only 40% are behind Governor Scott Walker, it's bad news. It's even worse when it's asked who Wisconsinites side with given the choice between unions or the Governor: 56 percent fall on the side of the unions, with 41% with the governor.
