We’ve just been appointed to create a range of interactive learning tools for Manchester Metropolitan University. This groundbreaking project will enable a module of their BA (Hons) Film and Media course to be delivered through Second Life for the first time.

The tools will include metaphors for the film making process and a game-based exercise for editing. They will enable the students to build their skills in the area as well as develop new techniques in a virtual world format. The course is expected to run from September 2009. We’ll post more as the build develops.

Its the event of the year! On Tuesday 17 February we’ll be delivering (or ‘delivered’ if you’re reading this after the 17th) the UK’s first virtual awards ceremony. Senior BP executives from around the globe who have completed BP’s project management course at Manchester Business School will log in to Second Life to take part in the ceremony, complete with specially designed graduation gowns, lifelike avatars, an academic procession and speeches.

The ceremony will take place in the Whitworth Room of the Second Life Island that we created for Manchester Business School. During the ceremony the avatars (controlled by their real life BP personas) will climb the stage to receive their certificates and scripted handshakes will enable them to be congratulated by the Dean.

They will also be given a hyperlink to download certificates and following the event will receive a machinima (filmmaking in a virtual space) souvenir film of the ceremony. We’ll be managing the event and audio streaming on the day.

It’s been a busy couple of months for myself and Martin, frantically designing The Warehouse Projects 2008 annual campaign, today finally sees the new website go live. Closely followed by a series of flyers and posters, promoting an outstanding array of musical highlights that feature something for every one from the spiky 80s influenced pop of Black Kids to the experimental electronica of Warp Records and Squarepusher.

For this seasons website we wanted to differentiate each of the separate events. To achieve this we’ve added an events profile page where each event has its own personalised flyer representing the style of that particular night. Around 80% of these we’re designed in house with the remaining few produced by the external promoters of their event. Below are a few of my personal favourites, which coincidentally are the nights I’m most looking forward too.

The main branding for The Warehouse Project 08 is an ‘Acid House Dove’ that has been psychedelically dyed (Photoshop, not ink. No doves we’re harmed in the making of this image) in the Warehouses recognisable colours, giving it a fresh take on the styling that has gone before but whilst still retaining the same image sensibilities. Why the dove? well the brief this year was to look back at the Acid House era and original warehouse parties that swept through Britain in the late 80s, we thought anything that used the Acid Smiley would have been too clichéd so instead delved into the fashion and paraphernalia surrounding those heady days and came up with ‘Acid House Dove’. Top one, sorted, nice one geezer… etc.
