Sports Car Insider recently had a chance to ask Corvette Racing's Program Manager five questions covering both personal and business aspects of his life. One of my favorite questions is what would Doug be doing if he wasn't involved in racing.
Autoblog had the rare opportunity to visit GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan where they worked along side master engine builder Mike Armstrong to assemble an LS9 engine. The PBC is unique to GM's other engine assembly centers as each engine is assembled by hand from start to finish by a single engine builder as opposed to sending the engine down an assembly line where multiple workers add the same part over and over.
Looking for the ultimate Christmas gift for your junior Corvette enthusiast this year? Look no further than Hammacher Schlemmer's 35 MPH Junior C1 Corvette. The 2/3 scale gasoline powered replica of a 1956 Corvette is an impressive recreation of the first Corvette to race at Sebring.

Powered by a 6.9 hp 107cc four-stroke engine, the Junior Corvette features an automatic transmission with a single shifter control for moving forward or in reverse. The steel chassis is surrounded by a fiberglass-reinforced polyester body and details like the single driver-side mirror and twin-turn indicators on the right side of the hood have all been painstakingly recreated. And speaking of painstakingly recreated, the Junior Corvette will set you back $32,000. Check it out at Hammacher Schlemmer.

V8TV hooks up with the team at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering at SEMA 2009 for an in depth talk about how to wring more power out of the new Corvette ZR1. LPE knows from experience as they tuned a Jetstream Blue ZR1 without modifying the stock LS9 to achive a quarter mile time of 10.02 at 138 mph!

Southern California based Superformance LLC is best known for their realistic recreations of the Shelby Cobra and the Ford GT40. Teaming up with the Duntov Motor Company, they have recently been granted the production rights to recreate the coupe and convertible street version rollers of the iconic 1963 Corvette Grand Sport.
Adding a Nitrous Oxide system to a Corvette is a quick and cheap way to get an additional 50 or 100 horses, but it comes with risks as one unlucky C6 Corvette owner found out.

While rally wheels were standard equipment on the 1967 Corvette, there was an optional wheel offered for the final year of the Sting Ray. RPO N89 was designated as "Cast Aluminum Bolt-on Wheels" and 720 buyers selected the pricey option, adding an additional $263.30 to the invoice. Fast forward 40-some years and now an original set of Kelsey Hayes sells for big bucks. How big? How about $20,000!
The guys at CarCrazyDesks.com have found several new uses for the rear fascias of C5 and C6 Corvettes. Not only are they fabricating custom desks, but you'll also find shelves, bars, liquor cabinets and my personal favorite, the Corvette barbeque grill. The desks have working lights and are available in different finished and colors. A great gift idea for sure, but it's not cheap. Price for a C6 desk is $2300 with all the options.
Thanks to our friend Berry Lowman, we have photos of the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport that Chevy took to SEMA to showcase a new lineup of Genuine Corvette Accessories. We see several of the new accessories listed in the Chevy press release like the "Tech" patterned engine covers and interior console trim, but we also see a new 7-spoke chrome wheel with a Corvette logo insert on display as well.
Earlier this year, Chevrolet announced the return of the Corvette Grand Sport model. It?s a track-oriented Corvette with wider wheels and tires, special suspension tuning and unique exterior details. The Corvette Grand Sport achieves a 0-60 time of less than four seconds, pulls 1.0 g on the skid pad and still boasts an EPA-rated highway fuel economy 26 mpg. GM is now at the 2009 SEMA show in Las Vegas where they announced a slew of cool accessories for the new Grand Sport.
This custom Corvette is billed as a tribute to the late Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, creator of the memorable Rat Fink character and a key player in the 1960's custom/hot rod movement in Southern California. The converted C3 features an open engine bay and a bubble-top roof, and the rear end is?well, you just have to see it. The Corvette was spotted outside the Las Vegas Convention Center where it will be on display at the SEMA show this week. A walk-around video is after the jump.
