Finished Projects

The past few days I have been working on re-doing the laundry room and I am finally done!
Check it out: Bubbles hand painted all over the place ( starting just above the baseboards) looking like the washer overflowed and bubbles are flying everywhere. I really love it!

AND....I actually finished a craft project. Amazing.
I have a tendency to start WAY too many projects and then it takes me forever to actually finish any of them.

This, though, was a necessity.
1. I burned my other oven mitt(oops)
2. This Fabric is so bright and fun for an oven mitt (It's Pop Dot Red) how could I resist?

This was super easy, I just used my old (burned up) oven mitt as a template.

Feeling pretty good that I've been so productive!

Chocolate Fudge Brownies

These Chocolate Fudge Brownies are the BEST. We love them at our house and make them pretty often.

The recipe is a tweaked version of one I had from my grandmother.

Caution: These are really rich and chocolatey. If you like cakey brownies or are on a diet that would frown upon a snack of about nine million calories...these are not the brownies for you.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

2/3 c. salted butter, plus extra to grease baking dish
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate-chopped into small pieces
1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate-chopped into small pieces
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 eggs
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 cup all purpose flour

Here's what you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8" x 8" baking dish with butter

2. Melt 2/3 c. butter and the chocolate in a small sauce pan over low heat. Stir constantly. Do not overcook. When melted, set aside to cool for about 5-10 minutes.

3. Cream together the sugar, eggs and vanilla extract. Use a stand or hand mixer on medium-high speed. Cream/beat for about 5 minutes or until pale yellow and really creamy.

4. Add the chocolate and mix well on low speed. Then add the cocoa powder and flour and stir just until blended.

5. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick stuck into the center comes out fairly clean.

Best enjoyed warm with a giant scoop of ice cream.

Look what the mail man brought me this week:

This sweet little stack of fabric arrived a few days ago from Fabritopia and I have been admiring it sitting there on my worktable. Not sure yet what I will be whipping up with these, but who cares...they are just so lovely! Very spring-time-y, no? Oh, such cheerful fabric during this gloomy, rainy week, just makes me smile.

More Baking..

I went on another baking spree last week and made these tasty little treats.
I found the recipe on Tasty Kitchen. These bad boys were gobbled up fast, so I made another batch yesterday. They are incredibly easy to make. I highly recommend them.

In other news, I finally picked a skirt pattern to knit up with my pretty gray yarn. It's the Bell Curve and all the info can be found on Ravelry. I cast on yesterday and will post a progress photo or two soon.

I just love winding balls of new yarn...just destined to be made into something wonderful.

This pretty gray color seems just right for a new skirt. I have had such an obsession with skirts lately!

Yes, I think it is time to cruise Ravelry for some pretty skirt patterns. I just can't wait to cast on...I'll update soon!

A Bread Baking Day

Every week, I spend a day baking bread for the week. I usually bake 2 loaves of soft white sandwich bread, 1 loaf of wheat and a batch of rolls.

This week I tried the soft white sandwich bread from The Bread Bible
by Rose Levy Beranbaum, and I must say that it is the most flavorful white bread EVER! It is really delicious and makes amazing toast. D, my 3 year old was over the moon with this bread.

Definitely a hit, and I can foresee this recipe being in heavy rotation around here.
