They say that all banquets come to an end, including the good ones. And after 2 years of lifestyle and fashion articles about "What's In & About Manila's Lifestyle," we have to say goodbye.

But the good thing about this farewell is we are saying goodbye to move up, to become better. Watch out for the new and upcoming lifestyle and fashion blog under the Blogger Manila Network (BMN) where we will transfer starting January 1, 2012. And since it is under the Blogger Manila Network, expect the name to still have the 'Manila' suffix.

Self-hosted Lifestyle Blog

Not one, but two! We are not only coming up with a new blog to replace Cosmo Manila in BMN, we are also having a new self-hosted lifestyle blog soon thereafter just like our successful Let's Go Sago, NomNom Club, Blogger Manila, and the recent Gadget Gambit.

I would like to heart-fully thank all the readers, subscribers, and supporters of Cosmo Manila here and even in Facebook since February of 2010 which eventually led us into becoming one of the Lifestyle Blog Finalist (National Level) in the recent Philippine Blog Awards 2011.

It's really hard to let go almost two years of companionship and say goodbye. Nonetheless, it's not really a 'goodbye,' it's just a change of venue. Join me in the new lifestyle blog called Style Wise Manila starting January 1 of 2012! Cheers to all and Happy New Year!

Diana Stalder Throws a SPArty!

In celebration of Diana Stalder’s 15th year Anniversary last October 22 a SPArty was held at one of their branches - Dermaline Magallanes branch - located in Gateway Paseo De Magallanes.

Selected beauty bloggers were invited for an afternoon of pampering and relaxation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Dermaline Staff and fellow blogger Ia.

A professional photographer immediately took our photos. A few bloggers came ahead us and has already started with their facial treatments. While waiting, I got curious on the Diana Stalder products on display and treatment rooms. There were sophisticated machines and the equipment are clean. They have a wide selection of beauty products too; from soaps to sun blocks and acne treatments to personal care line.

A SPArty won’t be complete without good food and a zen ambiance. Rose petals were scattered all over the lounge - exuberant of a very feminine, light and relaxing mood.

After a few minutes, the staff assisted me and offered me to choose the treatment I am interested in. There were four facial treatment options:

Absolute RT4 Retinol (Wrinkle Prevention)

Regenerin (Botox Alternative)
Re6tense (Skin Reaffirming)

All treatments are non-surgical approach and include the basic cleaning and pricking procedures in a regular facial treatment.

I asked my therapist what’s best for my skin and she choose Absolute RT4 Retinol (wrinkle prevention). I can’t help but ask her if there were already wrinkles on my face and I'm happy with her response saying “none” and that RT4 Retinol will help prevent having wrinkles. :)

I dread pricking in facial treatments, but at Diana Stalder the experience was great! I love the NOVAnewMask she applied on my face for 15 minutes. It was cool and very thick.

Gatsby Hunts for the Next Style Icon in LCC

A few weeks ago, Gatsby, a leading brand for men's hairstyle, visited Lipa City Colleges (LCC) in Lipa City, Batangas. They were in search for the ultimate Gatsby Style Icon and hoping to find it among the young men and students of LCC.

The Gatsby brand is on the hunt for the next Gatsby Style Icon. And last week, the Gatsby Style Hub booth and crew joined Lipa City Colleges students enjoy their Foundation Day.

The students were excited to register when they saw the huge booth and the interesting photo wall.

There were a lot of Gatsby product samples that day, both for facial care and hair styling - all for free!

At the booth, LCC students (especially guys) obviously had having fun styling their hair in different ways and means. :)

After the successful opening in SM North Edsa in north Quezon City, one of the top Korean cosmetic brand, Nature Republic, launched another store; this time in SM Fairview last November 11.

Ms. Marjorie Lee and Mr. Tad Huang, topdogs of Nature Republic Philippines, led the ribbon cutting during the affair.

During the event, Mr. Tad Huang shared some pertinent facts about Nature Republic's background and presence in the Philippines. And He hihglighted one of the best sellers of Nature Republic - Aloe Vera Gel. It has already sold over 2 million since being recently released in the market. One reason which boosted sales would be it's natural ingredients.

And my ultimate fave is this (photo below), a set for defining eyes: eye-liner, three-dot style tip,
and extreme black liner. It's good and fitting for a Chinese-looking girl.. like me! :))

And of course the last factor being, as similarly blogged, “liked” and commented about by its netizens, the excellent customer service experience provided by the first three outlets.

Customers are still in awe of the special care and attention they were showered with at the NATURE REPUBLIC shops that some of them have gone to the extent of posting personal kudos and rave blogs, fan and like comments on the internet to share their positive experiences.

The night had an air of young and sassy vibe when I arrived at the Mango Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection Fashion Show at The Plaza in Resorts World Manila.

Mango, an international Spanish fashion brand, showcased its latest Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. Guests and patrons wait patiently for the Mango fashion show to start. Tweets are posted on the projector screen enthusing invites and bystanders alike on what’s new for the Mango brand. Everyone has the same question in mind, what does the autumn/winter 2011 Mango collection has in store for us Mango-lovers?

I have been a fan of Mango fashion for quite some time now ever since Penelope Cruz was their image model and I love their bags mostly. So far, I find the collection interesting. Yes, quite interesting. I wonder how the Philippine market will appreciate this play of contrasts?

Taking from the invitation, I now understand why the dress code is luxe grunge because of the presence of fur, animal prints, scarves, and layers of clothes in the collection as well.

What I like about the collection are the neutrals and the tans with a splash of color such as mustard and bright orange.

As for the fur and head accessories, I'll keep an open mind to it and see how well it is accepted by Filipinos especially in a temperate climate. Although, honestly, I am not very enthusiastic about it. Still, there is much to the collection to anticipate.

I saw pieces that were classy and at the same time playful. For me, it is a good combination of contrast. All in all, I like what I saw in the collection.

Leisure Lifestyle with Samsung Plasma TV and Blu Ray Player

We have seen how TV technology has evolved from black & white to colored, and from to CRT to flat screen. Now we have the LCDs, LEDs, and Plasma TVs. And together with these advances are the improvements in people's lifestye, somewhere Samsung has always been along the way.

In a recent priviledged invitation from Samsung, I got to experience a luxurious lifetsyle, albeit briefly, in a Makati posh hotel called Picasso Boutique Hotel with the new Samsung Plasma TV and Blu Ray player.

It was a tiring day, but upon opening the door and lights of the VIP studio in room 801, a loft-style, fully furnished 2-level unit greeted me and two other friends last weekend.

The furnitures and interior design were both elegant and chic. And guess what, it was awesomely complemented by a 64" plasma television. It's Samsung's latest Plasma TV model PS64D8000 audibly enhanced with a matching home theater system.

I only see TVs as big as this in electronic store showrooms and exhibitions. It's only now that I got to actually use one. It's basically as long as a kid lying on its side. :)

We also saw the latest blue ray player from Samsung lying quietly on the left side. Too eager, we tried to explore the Samsung Plasma TV first, which was also a Smart TV.

Having explored the features of Samsung Smart TV months ago, tinkering around with our newest gadget was a breeze. And Internet buffs and bloggers that we are, checking out the Internet feature of 'our' plasma TV was the priority. :)

After exploring the features of the plasma TV, it was time for some movie viewing with the Samsung's latest Blu Ray player model D7500.

Sleek and stylish, the D7500 doesn't look like your usual flatbed player. Clad in a silver light metal finish and lighted touch-sensitive player icons, it's certainly a looker.

I even intially mistook it for another appliance, and not as the blu ray player. :) We started with the Megamind Blu Ray disc.

It's not just another excuse for drinking, seriously. :) GSM Blueniversity has been going around different colleges around the country to educate citizenry in the right age in interesting ways of GSM Blue mixes.

When GSM Blue launched Blueniversity, the idea is to create an 'educational' environment at various student hangouts where they could just enjoy themselves.

About two months ago, GSM Blueniversity sponsored a similar gathering for bloggers called the “Mixology Seminar” held at Capone’s Bistro, Makati City.

G.S.M. Blue’s Bluniversity fueled the night with lots of drinks and fun with the leading flair-tending champions in the country - Erwyn Unigo (Champion, Professional Division GASM Flair Idol 2007) and Derick De Borja (1st Runner Up, Professional Division GASM Flair Idol).

HYD designer contestants recently had a full day photo shoot at the HD Make Up Studio and Academy. The experts in hi-definition (HD) makeup and airbrush in the Philippines was headed by Jeave Gabiana and Christephanie Chua-Sing, co-founders of the academy.

Jeave Gabiana, a CPA who spent more than 20 years in the corporate world in the Philippines and abroad, decided to veer away from his corporate career and later on founded Basement Academy and became one of the very few in the Philippines who has completed a Diploma Course from Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles. He personally teaches all our precision cutting courses.

Christephanie Chua-Sing completed her makeup studies at Cinema Makeup School in Hollywood and Professional Airbrush Course from LCE School of Art and Design in Singapore. She has also completed dual bachelor's degrees in Accountancy and Computer Management. The third person in the team was Mic Alava, a student of both Jeave and Christephanie. The designers and the HYD team were given tips by these professionals on skin care and on the right make up to use appropriate to their styles.

Fashion photographer Christine Day Lorico is known for fabulous photos that tell you various stories. She has done work for newspapers and magazines in the metro.

The photos from the shoot gives you an idea of what to expect from each designer. Expect light and “flowy” designs from Jackie Abueg, a glam rock collection from Marc Blanco, a colorful and feminine collection from Bailey Dava, hip and funky designs from Klart Lim and a comfortable yet opulent collection from Renan Pacson.

After a successful photo shoot, the Hot Young Designers Fashion Face Off 2011 Designer Contestants started producing their first collection. The first of the three collections will be launched this October1, 2011 at a specially designed eCommerce site for this online competition (HotYoungDesigners.com).

With the stress brought about by modern life's pace, having eye problems is not anymore surprising. I experienced mine when I reached the age of mid 30s.Good thing there are specialized eye clinics like American Eye Center

They say there is power in numbers. And the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) knows that. This coming August 11 & 12, top retailers and industry experts will come together for the 20th National Retail Conference and Stores Asia Expo (NRCE 2011) at the SMX Convention Center.

Looking forward with the theme, “The New Frontier: Taking Retail to the Next Level,” the conference promises to be more daring in uplifting the industry to face upcoming challenges.

Pain Monsters vs Advil in Eastwood Flash Mob

I posted this same video last night in my other blog right after the flash mob in Eastwood. A good night sleep after, I thought of sharing this same "Pain Monsters vs Advil Flashmob" video here in my lifestyle blog as well. :P

Watching my video again, it actually looked like as if some emergency is happening inside the mall, only to discover that it was an entertainment show happening outside. Indeed, they captured the immediate attention of the crowd, especially that it was a payday-Friday night. There were a lot of families and children in the park with whom the show was a hit!

Moreover, the focus of the show turned out to be a new product from Advil that came in softgel capsule. They call it Advil Liqui-Gel. It's an analgesic and is mainly an Ibuprofen for fever and body pains. Being liquid in nature, emphasis was on it's fast relief action compared to tablets just like in the flash mob where the tablet was beaten by the pain monsters afterwhich the liquigel came to the rescue.

Partied in a New Light, with San Mig Light Party All Night!

This year, the country’s no.1 low-calorie beer hosted once again a San Mig Light Party All Night with Big Fish featuring Chicane! It was a party in a whole new light at the San Mig Light Innovation White Festival.

It was a party beyond the ordinary because no less than trance tune visionary and UK Dance Album’s Chart-topper Chicane was there as part of his Giant’s World Tour.

The night started fashionably late making way for a long line-up of stellar club crowd favorites that kept you dancing ‘til dawn. Along with Chicane, cutting-edge DJ sets of duo Kyau and Albert, the electrifying musical dynamo Ronski Speed, the phenomenal vocals of Emma Hewitt, and perennial favorite John Boy Lee.

It was also a black-light themed party experience immersed in an exciting glow-in-the dark environment.

Glow-in-the-dark face and body paints, as well as unlimited glow paraphernalia such as the ultra-exclusive San Mig Light Glow Sticks were given out.

HYD's Fashion Face Off Mechanics & FAQ

Finally, the application form, mechanics, and FAQs for the Hot.Young.Designers' Fashion Face Off 2011 is out! Read on.

Mechanics of Fashion Face Off 2011

It will be a competition among five representatives of highly acclaimed fashion schools in Manila. The five contestants chosen will be among many of those aspiring RTW fashion designers in the industry. The HYD Fashion Face Off challenge 2011 will be a 9 month long challenge where, if chosen, you will have to show off your skills as a designer of ready-to-wear clothing. There will be 3 quarters:

First Quarter October – December 2011
Second Quarter January – March 2012
Third Quarter April – June 2012
Fourth Quarter July - September: Soliciting and looking for the next batch; awarding of the winner

For each of the quarter given, participants will have to create your own fashion collection. You will have to create 4 variants for each piece (it may be various sizes or color or fabrics). The maximum cost per piece will be at Php 500. Markup for the pieces will be agreed upon by the designer and the business coach. All receipts should be kept by the designer and should be submitted to the business coach every check up period. All of these receipts should have an official receipt named to Hot Young Designers. If in case your supplier does not issue official receipts, you have to look for a supplier that issues one.

The participanting clothes will all be sold in a virtual store. At the end of the third quarter, the market/customers will determine the winner. How? The person with the most revenue generated for the entire 9 months will be declared the winner.

What’s in it for you?

Participants will not spend a single peso. We will give you a budget of Php 20,000 per quarter (half of it will be given at the start of each quarter and half of it will be given at the middle of the quarter). Aside from that, 10% of the earnings from the clothes that are sold will go to you as allowance for incidental expenses like travel, food, etc. Payout for this share will be given at the end of each quarter.
This will be a chance for you to start your own line. All items will be labeled: Hot Young Designers by your name
the organizers will of course spend in advertising and marketing, thus launching you as an upcoming designer for this year.
In the process of the competition, you will be assigned a business coach. This coach will teach you skills in business and starting your new line on the business side.
And of course, you will get the chance to win Php 100,000 worth of prizes for you to start your new line.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why are winners determined by sales and not by judging alone?

The free market is a very robust and flexible voting mechanism. The consumers essentially vote for your creation with their purchase. Aside from simulating real world market conditions, this also gives designers the flexibility to sell at a higher markup provided their products are “worth it” to the consumer. Comments such as “it looks cheap” or “it looks expensive” are therefore proven with actual purchases.

Who will provide the supplier?

We will have a ready list of suppliers that you may choose from. Alternatively, you may also have your own suppliers. However, the total operating budget that is given to you remains the same. This budget covers raw materials, equipment, and labor.

What happens if we do not use up the Php 20,000 budget allocation per month?

We suggest that you use up the Php 20,000 budget. If in case your receipts are less than the budget, we will deduct the difference from your next budget. This will definitely help on increasing your profits at the end of the contest.

What’s in it for my school?

For the competition, you are “marketed” as a student of your school. Your work, and ultimately your success, will be a reflection of the quality of your school’s education and the caliber of its students.

Where do the earnings go?

The earnings go to marketing, advertising, maintenance, and other operational costs. A part of the earnings also go to the organizers in order to sustain this program for other young designers in the future.

Does the winner have any contract or commitments with the organizers/sponsors after the program?
NO. The winner and all the contestants are not committed to any of the sponsors or the organizers after the program.

Where will my clothes be sold?

Your clothes will be sold in a specially designed online store for the competition. The clothes will also be sold in bazaars.

Can I help market my creations as well?

Yes you may. The web platform is uniquely suited to such a task so that you can easily market both on the web (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and offline.

Can I quit in the middle of the competition?

As much as possible, we advise all contestants to not quit in the middle of the competition. Your creations will carry your name and any unreliability this early in your career will tarnish your brand.
