Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk! Guess who’s back on the big screen, decades after the last member of the orignal comedy legends passed away? The Farrelly Brothers, the demented, madcap minds behind the comedy classic, Dumb and Dumber are reviving the Three Stooges for contemporary audiences for the big screen. It’s a risky venture considering how beloved the original — and inimitable — Three Stooges were to generations.

Comprised of two brothers (Moe and Curly Howard) and their longtime friend, Larry Fine, the Three Stooges were a vaudeville comedy team that used physical, slapstick humor in their act. Each Stooge had their designated role: Black-haired Moe with his distinctive, thick bangs was the ringleader and aggressor of the group, often bullying and picking on Curly and Larry. Larry, the level-headed (and frizzy haired) Stooge, still went along with Moe’s plans in spite of the fact that he knew better. (Larry just didn’t want to get bonked on the head. Can you blame him?) Perhaps the “Super Stooge,” was Curly, the big stooge with the crewcut and the mind of a happy-go-lucky and easily excitable child.

When Curly passed away, he was replaced by another Howard brother, Shemp. The group carried on until the mid-’70s when the last Stooge standing, Moe Howard, passed away. The group’s hilarity continued, however, in television reruns.

Now the Farrelly Brothers are attempting to resurrect the Three Stooges with a new movie in 2010 with well-known actors portraying the legendary Stooges in a comedy film. The film itself will not actually be biopic, but rather a fictional continuation of the misadventures of the Three Stooges.
Stepping into the roles of Moe and Curly are some rather unorthodox choices. Farrelly staple and muse, funnyman Jim Carrey will be playing Curly and may be a natural fit given his comedic timing and utter lack of shame to do anything for a laugh. Carrey will also be adding 40 lbs. to his lanky frame to get down the “look” of Curly on film.

While it’s easy to picture Jim Carrey as Curly, noted dramatic actor Benecio Del Toro is stepping into the role of Moe, the dark haired leader of the stooges.

The role of Larry was originally given to a highly unlikely choice, Sean Penn. Penn, however, left the project to take a break from acting. While no names have been revealed although the Farrelly Brothers have sent out a call to Penn’s successor in the role, actors like John C. Reily (Stepbrothers) and Paul Giamatti (who played in Fred Claus as Santa Claus and as John Adams in the HBO mini series have been mentioned as fan favorites for Larry.

Regardless of who gets to rock Larry’s frizzy auburn ‘do, The Three Stooges are timeless classics who would be welcome guests at any costume party. Jump aboard the Stooge Train, brush up on your best Curly Shuffle moves and try on some Three Stooges masks to trot out to your next costumed shin-dig. Perfect for going it solo, or with a gang of three, the “nyuks” keep on coming when the Stooges are around. Let’s hope the new batch can do the originals justice!

PlayStation was a great move on Sony’s part when they began creating the consoles back in the 90’s. Not only did they rival Nintendo, but in many households they have surpassed Nintendo as the console to have. PlayStation is in their third at home console and offers the PlayStation Portable for anyone who wants to play their favorite games away from home. As a revolutionary technology company Sony continues to come up with great ideas. The PSP can already get online for updates, to play with other players, and basically just enjoy the mobility offered by the console.

A report has come in that Sony may be updating their PSP for something a little different. With cell phones being important for gaining online websites and the 3G technology surround the iPhones is it any wonder that Sony has been working on a new idea.

The question being asked of consumers is: are they willing to stop working their thumbs on a video game long enough to answer a phone call? We already have PSP consoles and cell phones as separate entities. Many of us may pause the game to answer an important call from a friend, but what if you didn’t have to carry around two devices? Sony told Nikkei Business Daily that they are working on an electronic model that will be a hybrid Cell Phone and Gaming Device.

Just imagine getting rid of some of the items you carry in your pocket for a hybrid. The device is still in production so when it will arrive or if it will is up for debate. Sony is still trying to determine why someone might want to halt their Final Fantasy or God of War game to answer the phone. Sony has been trying to break into the cell phone world with Sweden’s Ericsson department. Unfortunately the Bravia was not as successful as other phones. Even the Cybershot has not been a great matching of the two companies.

Sony has been trying to find out if the PSP audience wants a multi functional device. For us costume partiers one thing is for certain. Final Fantasy Costumes or other Cosplay costumes are just the tip of the iceberg.

This year in honor of the innovative idea to mesh cell phones with PSP, you might just have to show your support with a PSP Phone Costume. Other experts are saying that Sony will most likely abandon this platform of gaming and smartphone marriage, but are they sure? Haven’t we watched anime, dressed in anime costumes, and been wowed with technological ideas, and wishing we had something that was really like the animation? Time will tell if the costume creation is as far as the new Sony idea goes!

Michael Jackson may not have had the following he had back in the eighties, and he certainly had quite a bit of bad press in the last several years, but for some there is no denying he once had talent. Often Jackson was referred to as the “King of Pop.” June 25th, 2009 it was announced the Michael Jackson died of a heart attack after being rushed to the hospital and ending up in a coma. His most popular album has always been Thriller.

His career was one that reached new heights like having the strongest crossover in the 1980’s as an African American entertainer. Michael Jackson began his career at eleven when he was part of the Jackson 5. Much of his music was hip hop, poop, and contemporary R&B. He was most well known for his moonwalk and the robot. All during the eighties the moonwalk was constantly talked about and used by others in honor of Jackson’s talents. On stage he always had on one white glove during the earlier 80’s. Many of his onstage costumes were glittery dazzling the crowds. The most well known Michael Jackson costume is the one where he wore tight black pants, white socks, black shoes, a white shirt, and a red leather jacket. Of course the white glove and sunshades were also part of the stage appearance.

The second star to pass away this week was Farrah Fawcett. In the past few years she did not hit the screen very often, instead she suffered from cancer. On June 25th, 2009 she lost that battle. Farrah Fawcett was one of the first ladies in the 70’s to grab international acclaim as a star. She was born in Texas, discovered by a Magazine, and was almost an instant success. She was most well known for her work on Charlie’s Angels and modeling. She had several off Braodway appearances during her career.

Farrah Fawcett’s hair is perhaps the thing people will remember most, because it was blonde, flowing, and stunning completing the beautiful picture she made. Her hairstyle was emulated by millions of women around the world. To honor a great actress, and one who seemed very down to earth there are several costume choices. You can go for the Farrah Fawcett costume with the Farrah Fawcett wig, red 70’s bathing suit and look like a fashion model. You can also choose the Charlie’s Angels costume again a 70’s costume, but with long pants, high heels, and a stunning blouse.

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett will both be remembered for several years for the talents they displayed throughout their career.

Although it won’t hit theatres until March of 2010, photos of Tim Burton’s re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland, are circulating. The film’s look is certainly what you would expect from Burton with a brightly colored, yet gothic-tinged aura about all of his films, including Sweeney Todd and The Corpse Bride.

The film will combine a mixture of live-action actors along with stop-motion animation (like Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas) and digital CGI. Even more ambitiously, this format will later be transposed to 3D — which, judging by the stills and production art, will probably make for a very trippy experience on the other side of the looking glass. Check out the art below and stills to get a sneak peak at what you can expect from this freaky fairy tale made just a tad more twisted:

It looks as if the singing, “human” flowers have made their way into the film!

Look closely and you can check out the White Rabbit in this photo.

Additionally, the cast is pretty much in keeping with Tim Burton’s usual crew that he’s worked with before, including perennial muses, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Burton’s partner, Helena Bonham Carter in the role of the Red Queen. Below are still photos of the actors in costume. They’re certainly quite colorful:

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter:

Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen (who is a mixture of the traditional “Red Queen” and the angsty Queen of Hearts from Lewis Carroll’s story):

Rounding out the cast are familiar faces to Burton’s audiences including veteran actor (and Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, and Alan Rickman as the hookah-huffing Caterpillar. There are also a number of first-time Burton collaborators on deck for Alice in Wonderland including Little Britain’s Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts.

The film’s lead is played by Mia Wasikowska, with an action shot of her in her Alice Costume, combining Victorian style with an ethereal flair:

and Oscar-nominated Anne Hathaway lends some additional star power as the kindly White Queen. The normally brunette Hathaway has been “lightened up” somewhat for the role with a sort of sort of elven look, seen below:

While several versions of Alice in Wonderland costumes have been around for quite some time — ranging from the Disney version, to American McGee Goth Alice-inspired costumes — we’re eager to see what officially licensed costumes may come from Tim Burton’s new flick. We’ll probably have to wait until next year, but as more photos and hopefully a trailer emerges, Costumzee will offer some tutorials as to how you can pull together yor own DIY version of these looks and find yourself ahead of the curve!

For the first time since the ’80s where you had such recognizable commercial characters like Mr. Whipple (the “Don’t Squeeze the Charmin” guy), Madge the Palmolive lady, Budweiser non-spokesdog Spuds Mackenzie, and Dunkin’ Donuts “Time to Make the Donuts” guy, television commercials have some very familiar faces.

Currently, several commercial characters are just as widely recognized as actors on the television shows that they advertise with. Insurance companies lead the pack with the most well-known characters, including the ever-so-polite Geico Gecko, the misunderstood Cavemen, and of course, Flo the Progressive Insurance Peddler, with her never-ending optimism!

If you’re stuck for an idea for a costume, look to commercials for unique ideas that no one else may have thought of just yet. Cobble together your own Bob the Enzyte Guy costume, or check out some of our How To’s for a Billy Mays (OxiClean guy) costume, or how to make your own Shamwow! Guy costume.

Or… Worse comes to worse, just throw on a Snuggie and become a very colorful monk!

The 4th of July or Independence Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States. Almost every country in the world has an independence day. Ours happens to be on July 4th, where we can be a little wild, a little crazy, and have great fun. In 1776 our nation declared independence from Great Britain. It signaled an end to the Revolutionary War in which we were able to say that we were a country without British rule. Furthermore our founding fathers stated that we would have a democracy, one in which the people would control the nation rather than a monarch.

The revolution was won by the US, and talks resolved on July 2, 1776 through the Continental Congress that we would have total independence. It took two more days for the final approval to come through. There was a need to revise the Declaration of Independence to give it everything our leaders and people wanted. According to history the Declaration of Independence was actually signed on July 2, 1776. However, since the announcement didn’t come for two days, as well as final approval many believed that the 4th was the actual day Adams, Jefferson and others had signed the declaration.

The 4th of July is almost upon us again. We have two weeks to get our Independence Day costumes ready, fireworks procured, and barbeques to set up. If you are like many in the United States you have your own traditions when it comes to Uncle Sam costumes or 4th of July costumes.
Even Lady Liberty costumes make great 4th of July outfits for some of us. It is time one again to celebrate with stars, stripes and fireworks. You might consider going as our National Flag or designing a fireworks costume. John Adams costumes along with Abigail his wife are perfect for a couples’ costume.

Traditions differ around the United States. For example in Juneau Alaska celebrations actually begin on July 3rd. Residents set up parties, baseball games, and head downtown in the early evening to get a place to watch the fireworks. The streets are lined with cars, the docks filled with people, and at the stroke of midnight the first firework is released over the water. The celebration does not end with the fireworks, but instead begins with it. Everyone returns to downtown Juneau later that morning for a 9am parade, which starts in Juneau and works its way to Douglas, where more food, music, and entertainment is provided.

Other cities may offer a parade on the morning of July 4th, and then fireworks at 9 or 10pm that day. So whatever, your traditions are you have plenty of costumes to make the day special and fun!

The shuttle launch of Endeavour was canceled again this morning when the ground crew found a hydrogen leak at the Umbilical Carrier Plate. This is the second time the 7 person crew has been put on hold. The first launch date was June 13th, but it was canceled to make repairs. Having thought the problems were fixed, NASA scheduled the mission for June 17th at 5am Eastern Standard time. Program Manager LeRoy Cain told the media, they want to ensure safety before the shuttle is actually launched that is why they have reset the shuttle launch for July 11, 2009.

Astronaut Mark Polansky was online talking about his role in the mission. He stated that spaceflight is never a routine, so he is not disappointed to be waiting a little longer. He and his team will be going back to a training schedule on Monday to keep prepared for the mission.

Endeavour’s crew is prepared for a 16 day mission in space where they will expand the Japanese laboratory located at the International Space Station. This is going to be a technical mission with three robots and five space walks in the mix.

While it is disappointing to have the mission put on hold again, we can find something fun about this delay. For people who love NASA costumes you now have a chance to get more creative in honor of the 7 man crew waiting to take off. Not only can you create your own astronaut costume based on the Endeavours launched, but you can add a few robot costumes to your party.

You can even construct your own space station for a costume. Just think about the creativity involved in creating a whole or partial space station or adding some Japanese symbols to your costume. Show your spirit and your support for these 7 people before, during and after their mission with your own style of costume!

It’s hard to believe that Scarlett O’Hara is 70! Another film celebrating a milestone mark this year is Gone With the Wind. THe iconic film about the American South shortly before and during the Civil War era made in 1939, the same year as another cinematic classic, The Wizard of Oz.

The film was based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel of the same name and a major search was undertaken to cast just the right actress in the role of quintessential Southern belle, Scarlett O’Hara. The role went to British actress Vivian Leigh who set the bar for the high-living, strong-willed, man-chasing, and tempermental Scarlett.

Of course, Scarlett had to have an equally fiery counterpart to make the chemistry and the Gone With the Wind itself so successful. Clark Gable also starred in the film as Scarlett’s on-again, off-again paramour, the womanizing, wheelin’ dealin’ and infinitely cool Rhett Butler.

Perfect for dressing up solo, Scarlett O’Hara makes a great costume for ladies. She has enough outfits to choose from in the film, from her iconic green-and-white party dress:
,

to hergreen velvet drapery gown. Start off with a black, Scarlett wig with long sausage curls.

Even Yankee men can dress as a <a href=http://www.costumzee.com/tag/southern+gentleman/">Southern Gentleman with a costume strikingly similar to Rhett Butler’s attire in the film:

Stage a viewing of the film in your own home and break out some Mint Juleps to sip while watching a classic film!

Scrat has been all alone in Ice Age and Ice Age the Meltdown. He is constantly trying to get an acorn he can store for food, always becoming disappointed when the acorn eludes his capture. As a prehistoric squirrel the costume for Scrat has been an entertaining one, with long teeth, a bushy tail, and clever little fingers. Recently I saw a new trailer for Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaur, which shows Scrat making another attempt at finding an acorn meal.

Before if you wanted a couples costume with Scrat you would need an Acorn along with you, but now Scrat’s got a girl, and the latest trailer shows just how the two meet. Scratte is the female version of a prehistoric squirrel. This squirrel costume is going to be even better than the one devised for Scrat. After all she has long lashes, to bat around, cute pointed teeth, a bushy tail, and a secret!

As the trailer began Scrat was falling out of Heavenly clouds back towards earth. He smells an acorn treat hiding up on a ledge, and as he works his way up to it, he discovers that the ledge is not unoccupied. No, there is someone else there with designs on his acorn.

The other squirrel turns around, with her batting eyes, painted with a little blue to enhance them, and Scrat has second thoughts about stealing her meal. Of course it is the age of survival, so instinct kicks in. The two fight and eventually Scratte is falling off the ledge. Scrat still holding the acorn decides he must rescue the damsel, and hops off the ledge after her.

They struggle in midair to determine who will win the acorn. Scrat finally gives up the acorn to help rescue his fair lady, only to find he’s the one in need of rescuing. As soon as the flirtatious squirrel has the acorn firmly in paw, she expands the folds of her skin, which act like a parachute. Catching poor Scrat unawares because he is not a flying squirrel!

Panic ensues and a splat is soon to follow, as Scrat is left with only a member of the meal and lady of his dreams. Squirrel costumes are not the only option you have when it comes to Ice Age Dawn off the Dinosaurs. The movie is ripe with dinosaur costumes to choose from. You also have the caveman costume and cavewoman costume if you want another couple’s idea!
