Do You Find The Air New Zealand "Cougar Pride" Ad Funny Or Offensive?

Apparently the Cougar is becoming a target market for the travel industry. There was and is the cougar cruise pairing older women with their younger "cubs." And this month Air New Zealand promoted the Grab A Seat bargain site with “Cougar Pride“.

The Cougar Pride contest was promoted in December 2009 and January 2010 with a commercial supplying a commentary on the behavior of the Cougars and their impact on the young single male population in the city of New Zealand. The Air New Zealand, Grab as eat, encouraged women 35-plus to send in photographs of themselves out on the town with their younger "Cougar Mates" who had to be at least 10 years younger. The women were then entered into a drawing for a free flight and tickets to next month's Wellington Sevens rugby tournament. Many women entered showing their "Cougar Pride" according to the news.

Unfortunately the Air New Zealand advertisement portraying older single women as man-hungry "cougars" who troll bars for fresh "meat" has sparked outrage , particularly among rape prevention groups in New Zealand. The narrator describes a cougar as "starving itself on sparse vegetation during the day then hunting large slabs of meat at night" by seeking out young men at a bar. And the narrator goes further to by saying the cougar, hasn't "tasted fresh meat for days," and will eventually pounce and drag her young male prey back to her apartment "where it will cruelly be made to listen to "the Eurythmics or Enya."

Do You find The Cougar' ad Funny or offensive?

Do think we will see a tamer Travel Industry version of this in the USA ?

Obviously this would not be a good tie in promotion for Virgin Atlantic Airline.

If The Rent Is To Good To Be True lt Could Be A Craigslist Scams

As often discussed on Cougar Room Mates, finding the perfect apartment and or room mate situation is not always easy. Many apartmenst that are listed on Craigslist are scams. There letters always set a tone. Here is an example of one we recieved today.

After reading these letters and seeing the beautiful apartment for rent at a true good to believe price (which is one of the big clues) you are instructed to send important information about yourself or wire money. Always be careful.

Craigslist Rental Scam Letter #1

Thanks for writing regarding my apartment, before we proceed on this rent I'd like to make a brief introduction about myself.. I am James Beals by name, a psychologist. Am 43yrs old married with my lovely wife and Daughter. The nature of my work has made me much of a traveler and has really exposed me to different types of race.. My Family and i moved down to Pennsylvania USA some months ago and that is the reason why i need a responsible roommate. The apt is available immediately. It is located at. ##########, ######,######

This unit is Available for immediate move in. It's a Modern 2 bedroom & 2 bathroom 950 square foot apartment, strategically located in a very cool and lovely environment with five (5) appliances including dish washer with in-suite laundry room and plenty of storage space. Professional and mature neighbors ensure peaceful living arrangements. Utilities such as heater, washer/dryer, electricity, Internet are also included in the rent.

I am looking for a peaceful and responsible person to rent the room and also help me look after the whole apartment. The tenant will be the only occupant of the whole apartment and will have full privacy. The rent per month for the room is $600 including utilities and the deposit is $400. I want you to know that I am a kind and honest man and i also spent a lot on my property that I want to give you for rent, so I will solicit for your absolute maintenance of the apartment and I would want you to treat it as your own, I would like you to keep it tidy all the time I also want you to let me have trust in you as I always stand on my word. I will like you to drive by to the building today to view the exterior of the building for you to know where the apartment is located or Google it if you are not able to go view it physically and get back to me if you like it so that I can forward the full interior pictures for you to view and have an idea how beautiful and spacious the inside looks and then we can proceed to the next step which is the application process.

Letter #2 that follows hours later

Thanks for your interest in my apartment. Once again the rent per month is $600 and the deposit is $400. rent and deposit is required. The room is available for move in immediately. The building is in a great location situated in the quiet and safe area and offers secure access. utilities again include Internet, cable, laundry in-suite, storage facilities, heat, water, electric and parking are included in the rent. I can rent the apartment to you either long term or short term.

I want you to understand that due to my present move to Pennsylvania with my family you will not be able to view the inside of the apartment in person because the keys and documents of the apartment are with us here in PA. The reason is that we tried to look for an agent that we could give the document & the keys before we left but could not find any trusted one as a matter of urgency and we don't want our home misused in our absence by just handling the apartment to any agent or friend that is why we took the keys and documents along with us and have decided to rent it our self and pray that with the help of God i will be able to get a good, responsible and God fearing person who will rent the room and take absolute care of my apartment. So once we have concluded on the rental arrangement , i will be shipping the keys and documents to you through DHL courier express delivery directly to you.

Do You Know The Rules Of Craig List Apartment Hunting?

This past week Cougar Room Mates has received several emails with beautiful houses for rent in Los Angeles from a friend thinking they are great apartment finds. Surprised that women 40 plus fall for these scams where schemers post ads for apartment rentals on a free site like
Craigs List. In most cases when a women 40 plus is looking to find an apartment it is for a single bedroom. Now in 2009 more women are choosing to share making a financially responsible decision in their single living expenses and lifestyle.

At Cougar Room Mates we want to warn you ladies about scams on Craigs List.

Rule #1

If the place is beautiful, nice or showy and the price is low...go with your intuited thoughts. It is too good to be true.

Rule #2
Never give out private, personal information like your social security number, bank info or telephone number until you are certain they are the real owner. Ladies use your brains here, if your going to have a landlord you need to meet them. Anyone who owns property hires someone local to manage it, if they live out of state or far away.

Rule #3
If you get a email back saying the wife,kiddies, and him have to move to London, however you seem like a good tenant and they want to secure quickly a good tenant. Please fill out the following information and a Fed Ex or wire of the rent money can be arranged. The key will be sent by Fed Ex to you after he recieves the information, or neighbor has the key. No ladies this is a scam.

Rule #4
Ask for the exact address and apartment number. Drive by the address, walk the neighborhood, and visit at all hours of the night. Some homes are quite by Day and all night College Bar neighborhoods by night. Why is the rent so low? Find the reason out.

Rule #5
You want to know if the photo of the apartment is the actual unit. What floor, how many CLOSETS, and how many other will be living there. Find out about the other tenants. One building in a prominent location in Chicago is filled with Cockroaches, another in San Francisco has 3am trash pick up in the alley, a girl must do her homework.

Rule #6
If it is a SHARE, what are the written contracted Rules of the house. If one enters a Shared living arrangement there must be written rules for the sake of privacy, financial, and safety of the home tenants. Is there a secrete 3rd person, how many people are paying rent? Is there rent paid up to date or are you saving them from eviction and a quick fix for them and a mistake for you? Ask questions, one can not ask enough when an add comes from Craigslist.

As a Cougar women I have fall fashions on my mind. Yes, I have Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton in my wardrobe and closet. Cougars are the rage and even Newsweek Magazine is writing , "2009 The Year Of The Cougar." Amazing there seems to be a lot of older women who are young spirited, beautiful, sexual, and think life has only just begun late into their 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Starting from Queen Elizabeth 1 to Madonna older women have always been attracted to younger men. The Newsweek article is a slam to older women saying, "by next year at this time, the cougar will probably be extinct."

Hello, Sir? Excuse me! I think many a women over 40 produce children, have business's, wealth and assets, pay many a men's bills, work out at the gym, more then many of our counter parts, and divorce much better then in the past. And let's just watch those Hollywood movie figures and see where we go this summer...old boys. As Cougars we know younger men are bread winners in this economical down turn, arm candy as you call it we see it as mutual respect and admiration. As Men get older in this economy more and more men are like old tires; wobbly, wore, punctured (divorced how many times with how many kids), tires easily, can not go fast only bumps along, and is no longer stiff and smooth. To back up the tire theory we could quote Harvard Medical studies on the male species life span being less then a females. The widowed Cougar was a wise courageous women who is sometimes very wealthy from the inheritance of her much older deceased spouse i.e. the late Brook Astor.

Cougars are women who are just blossoming in life, exploring, sharing, donating time to help others, loving, caring, and living life to its fullest. We will never be on the extinct list!

Perhaps because I am born of the same day as Colette, the new film based on the novels Chéri and The Last of Chéri, the new film Chéri, premiered here this week in Hollywood. It is a tragicomedy about the cougar love affair between an aging courtesan and a pampered, self-centered nineteen-year-old bon vivant.
