The Office of SB Member JP Peñol , Juniors for Progress Movement in cooperation with Sky Cable's "Keep on Talking with Boy Jorge" will hold a show-for-a-cause with ABS-CBN's Daniel Padilla on March 21, 2012, 6PM at Pavia Gymnasium consequent to the Awarding Ceremony of the Ten Outstanding Elementary Pupils and Ten Outstanding High School Students of Pavia.

Tickets will be sold for Php 30 from February 6-29 and Php 50 from March 1-21. Proceeds will go to an institution for the benefit of Pavianhon youth.

Sponsors will be provided four (4) seats in front. Potential sponsors can contact SB Member JP Peñol through his Facebook Account.

Sta. Monica Parish welcomes Msgr. Silva as new parish priest, expressed thanks to Fr. Gonzales

Before the year 2011 bid goodbye, the Parish of Sta. Monica through its Parish Pastoral Council led by Mr. Romeo Dy held the annual Parish Christmas Party with the participation of all religious organizations of the said parish. Consequently, the party also aimed at welcoming the newly-appointed parish priest in the person of Rev. Msgr. Maurillo P. Silva, P.C. and saying thanks to Rev. Fr. Anastacio B. Gonzales for his nine years of dedication to serve the parish and the people of Pavia.

Silva is the former rector of the St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary in Jaro, Iloilo City and has served the following:

Parish of The Assumption at Brgy. Barrio Obrero in Lapuz, Iloilo City; Parish of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage at New Lucena, Iloilo; and the Parish of La Immaculada Concepcion at Calinog, Iloilo.

"He is among the few clergy who was given the title 'P.C.' which is an acronym for "Papal Chamberlain" who is responsible of assisting the Pope whenever he visits the country. Msgr. Silva, being a Papal Chamberlain is a person to look up to," said Fr. Gonzales during the party.

Silva was officially installed as the new parish priest of Sta. Monica during a mass celebrated by Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo last January 3. The mass was well attended by a number of priests from the archdiocese, parishioners of Sta. Monica and the Parishioners of La Immaculada Concepcion. Elementary and high school students also prepared flaglets signaling the entrance of the new parish priest and giving warm welcome to the highest clergy of the Archdiocese of Jaro.

"I have spent the best years of my life at the seminary. Again, I have spent the best years of my life serving the parishes of the Assumption, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and the Parish of La Immaculada Concepcion. I hope I could spend the best years of my life here at the Parish of Sta. Monica. We will work together for the glory of the Lord Almighty," expressed Silva during his speech after the mass.

Pandac Children's Choir gave a breath-taking song number during the
welcome party of the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino for Fr. Gonzales.

Likewise, the parishioners of Sta. Monica, all-together, joined Rev. Fr. Gonzales to be welcomed in his new assignment - the Parish of San Nicoles de Tolentino at Lambunao, Iloilo, yesterday, January 7.

The people of Lambunao warmly welcomed Father Gonzales not only because their high-ranking officials had the same surname as their new parish priest, but because, Fr. Gonzales was once assigned in the said parish during his early years of priesthood. "So it's a comeback," said Lambunao Mayor Reynor Gonzales.

As noted, Fr. Gonzales spearheaded the restoration of the Sta. Monica Parish way back 2002, the same year he was assigned to Sta. Monica Parish.

"I hope Msgr. Silva will continue our legacy of restoring the church of Sta. Monica because it is the testament of our faith, brotherhood, unity and most of all preserving the house of the Lord," Gonzales quipped.

My year 2011 has become a democracy of wonderful ideas, clear visions and meaningful aspirations. It has become a pedestal of who I am and what I represent. And most of all, my 2011 has become very inspiring and momentous because I have persons like you.

I’d like to thank you all for making me know that you appreciate me. I am very grateful of your overwhelming support.

I may be faced with a lot of criticisms along my journey as a public servant. In short, we could not please everyone and having stated that, I would like to express my warmest gratitude to you who stayed by my side in times of joy and sadness, in victory and in defeat.

I am thankful to the persons who never forget to comfort me in times of trouble. As long as I am doing my best and with clear conscience, beyond the bar of public opinion and before God, I am innocent. Thank you for letting me know that I am doing what is just and proper.

I may not be the “perfect Konsehal” this town has ever had, but I believe that I am a konsehal that works for your interests. I am always giving it my best shot to give you the services you deserve, to protect your welfare as my beloved kasimanwas. "Simbang Gabi," is an authentic Filipino Christmas tradition which spans its way hundreds of years ago. It is a nine-day mass series in anticipation of Christmas. Simbang Gabi is held from the 16th to the 24th of December and is usually done as early as four in the morning (4am). The last day of Simbang Gabi is known as "Misa de Gallo."

Here in the Municipality of Pavia, Iloilo, Simbang Gabi has been very colorful and motivating because of the different freebies you could get (except from your wishlist, of course!).

For four years now, the town of Pavia under the administration of Mayor Arcadio Gorriceta gives free taho, kape and pandesal to church-goers after the Simbang Gabi.

On the first day of the tradition, thousands of Pavianhons flock to the covered gym canteen to get their simple, yet refreshing gifts from the local chief executive - a holiday tradition - the Pavianhon way!

14 Pavianhons benefit Uswag Pangabuhian Program

Fourteen (14) lucky Pavianhons received their respective rent-to-own trisikad units after being chosen as beneficiaries of the Uswag Pangabuhian Program, a locally funded micro-finance program of the municipality patterned after the time-tested scheme of the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K), December 5.

Launched in 2008 through the sterling leadership of Pavia Mayor Arcadio H. Gorriceta, the program provided interest and collateral-free micro-loans to enterprising residents of the municipality, with a small-scale and actively earning income generating project.

This program generally aims at providing credit access to the marginalized sector of the populace. Specifically, by the end of implementation, beneficiaries will have (a) owned an income-generating asset by fully paying its acquisition cost, (b) sustained the profitability of their income-generating projects using the loan assistance, and (c) appreciate the importance of a personal savings account using the ECBU as seed amount.

Wardogs Iloilo, Matalas dominates 1st Pavia Councilor Jo Jan Paul Peñol Airsoft Tournament

Wardogs Iloilo and Team Matalas outdone the eight other teams across the Visayas during the 1st Pavia Councilor Jo Jan Paul J. Peñol Airsoft Tournament held at the Pavia National High School Grounds, December 4.

'Operation: Tripoli' was the first airsoft tournament held in the municipality. To add, it was organized to enhance the skills and competence of airsoft players as well as to promote this rare sport.

According to Peñol, the proceeds of the tournament will help in the church restoration project of the Sta. Monica Parish.

"Amidst extreme difficulties during the event preparation and the unexpected burst of heavy rain on the day of the tournament, I thank the Lord Almighty for making the first airsoft tournament in our municipality very successful," added Peñol

Airsoft is a sport in which participants shoot round non-metallic pellets launched via replica firearms.

MAKATI CITY - Ten outstanding children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were recognized in an awarding ceremony in Makati City on Friday.

A project of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, this year's "Search for Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children" drew 77 essay entries from OFW children who had to answer the question: “What distinctive attribute do you have that you believe will help you initiate changes in your community or in the country that will benefit other Overseas Filipino families?"

Those who received the “Ibang Klaseng Talino Award" were:

Unso’s mother—former Philippine Women Basketball Team member April Maria Sacro—is working as a Physical Education teacher in Singapore. His father is Renato Unso, who was the country’s top man in 400-meter hurdles with a 25 year-standing national record of 51.26 seconds.

Meanwhile, Jo Jan Paul Peñol, a Political Science and Public Administration junior at the Central Philippine University of Iloilo, was hailed “Ibang Klaseng Community Leader."

A son of a marine engineer in Greece, Peñol currently serves as councilor in the municipality of Pavia, whose Traffic Management Code he also authored.

Among the "Ibang Klaseng Talino" awardees was Acabo who turned to vices when his father left to work in Saudi Arabia to provide better for a brood of six.

Physical separation destroyed his parents’ marriage, which drove the young Acabo to attend a high school in war-torn Lanao del Norte.

However, he surpassed this phase and moved on to become a consistent dean’s lister and student leader.

His parents also overcame 10 years of separation, “falling in love the second time around."

Acabo said he submitted an essay because he wanted to share his life story "as a son of an OFW."

For Acabo, there is still hope for the children of OFWs who rebelled against their parents’ absence.

“Hindi naman [dahil] down ka ngayon, down ka na forever. I hope that they will come to the turning point of their lives, when they’ll realize that [they] can be much more [than what they are now]," he told GMA News Online.

Awarding rites

BPI honored the 10 college students and their OFW parents at the Quezon Ballroom of Shangri-La Makati on Friday.

In his welcome remarks, BPI President and CEO Aurelio Montinola III said the winners “assure us that our nation’s development is an achievable dream that you will make real in the future."

“They gave remarkable insights on initiating change for the development of our nation, offering a gift of hope that our country’s future will be brighter," he said.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Andal — whose sister Camille received the same award in 2008— said she was "happy and proud" about her feat because it made her parents happy.

Asked to define what an "expat Pinoy" child was, she said: “In his or her own simple way, nakakapag-ambag [siya] for the changes that our country wants to have. Nakakapagpabago hindi lang sa sarili niyang buhay, kundi nakaka-inspire rin sa buhay ng ibang tao."

Search

Launched in 2007, the search recognizes the children of “expat Pinoys" who excel in academics, community service, sports, music, and the arts.

The search is open to children of OFWs who are:

| not more than 21 years old;

| enrolled in at least a four-year course;

| has no failing grade, and carries an average of at least 85 percent.

| The participants are asked to submit an essay with 1,000 to 1,500 words on a given topic, and are evaluated based on academic standing, community contribution, and talents.

Held every year at Ayala Corporation’s headquarters in Ayala Tower One in Makati City, the Panel Interviews is the final stage of screening. Brgy. Pagsanga-an wins 20th Tigkaralag Championship

Brgy. Pagsanga-an - Champion

Since its humble beginnings in 1991 initiated by former SB Member and former Iloilo Board Member, Engr. Cecilia Hubag-Capadosa, the team from Brgy. Pagsanga-an was finally proclaimed champion of this year's Tigkaralag Festival via unanimous decision from the board of judges, October 30.

Brgy. Pagsanga-an was followed by the competing teams from Brgy. Anilao and Brgy. Purok IV for the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

This year's festival only has five competing tribes yet boosting with ultimate performances as they amaze spectators especially foreigners from Norway.

"This event is really the best, one-of-a-kind!" says a Norwegian guest.

BPI to award Outstanding Community Leader to Councilor Peñol

Aiming to instill the importance of education among the youth and show appreciation for the sacrifices made by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) working abroad in an aim to give their children and families a better life, the Bank of the Philippine Islands recognized Councilor Jo Jan Paul Peñol as one of the Ten Outstanding OFW children.

Peñol, a 3rd year bachelor of Arts Major in Political Science and Public Administration from the College of Arts and Sciences, associate editor of The Central Echo and serving as municipal councilor of Pavia, Iloilo bested the other nominees from the Ibang Klaseng Community Leader category.

In its 5th year, the Search launched new categories, joining the annual Ibang Klaseng Talino award, namely, Ibang Klaseng Entrepreneur, Ibang Klaseng Athlete, and Ibang Klaseng Community Leader awards.

The Search for Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children honors children of Overseas Filipino Workers who are excelling in both the academic and non-academic field. The ‘Search’, launched in 2007 is an annual campaign set to promote the value of education, culture of excellence and nationalistic pride among the children of Overseas Filipinos or Expat Pinoys, as BPI calls them.

The ‘Search’ hopes to bring the Bank and the Overseas Filipino family together as BPI honors both the Expat Pinoy parent and their children. The ‘Search’ recognizes the achievements of the children of Overseas Filipinos and the OF’s themselves whose remittances play a major role in keeping the local economy afloat. By giving such recognition to Expat Pinoy children – their source of inspiration and motivation – BPI feels that it is giving greater honor and importance to the sacrifices that any Expat Pinoy bears abroad.

Peñol will be awarded at Makati Shangri-La this November 18.

The Department of Education - Region VI - Western Visayas through Dr. Toribio Berano, Regional Science Coordinator, this year's Regional Science Congress will have Pavia Councilor Jo Jan Paul Peñol as Keynote Speaker, October 30 at Oton National High School.

Peñol, who served as President of the National Federation of Youth Science Clubs, and Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs, Inc. (PSYSC) - Regional Council - VI last School Years 2006-2008 will once again go upstage and lead thousands of young science enthusiasts as they start their quest for science clubbing and advocacy building.

Star Magic Young Stars DM Sevilla and Philip Nolasco visits Pavia for a cause

ABS-CBN young stars Denmark Sevilla and Philip Nolasco, visited the Municipality of Pavia for a show-for-a-cause, October 14.

Denmark Sevilla, widely known as DM, a registered nurse who hails from Sta. Maria, Bulacan, is a Star Circle Quest Batch 2 Fab 5. After his stint at SCQ, he temporarily stopped his venture for show business and continued his academic career as a nursing student at Our Lady of Fatima College in the same province. DM now goes back to our televisions and prepares for a movie for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

On the other hand, Philip Nolasco, now 12 years old is the first Little Grand Star Dreamer of Pinoy Dream Academy, a singing talent competition of the same television station. Philip has already grown but his voice never fades. Currently, he's a Grade 6 pupil.

Both DM and Philip showcased a number of talents as they performed upstage at the town's gymnasium with over a thousand people watched.

The show was organized by a local TV personality, Boy Jorge who has already brought a number of young stars in the municipality.

Councilor JP Peñol served as the officiating officer during the oath-taking ceremony held September 24 at Japzy's Talabahan, Purok 1, Pavia, Iloilo.

Kabalikat Civicom was founded in response to a need: that of raising the standard of civic communicators to a position of high responsibility and importance. Kabalikat developed into PRIME MOVERS that immediately or at the soonest possible time responded to any exigencies or emergencies that arose.

UNAP names Pavia Councilor Peñol as Outstanding Youth Leader for Politics and Good Governance

In order to recognize and promote the positive achievements of young Filipinos and educate the general public with examples of youth achievement, the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) recognizes eight outstanding youth leaders across the country.

The awardees were honored last August 3 in time for the 12th International Youth Day Celebration (IYD) held at Sarabia Manor Hotel.

Pavia Councilor Jo Jan Paul J. Peñol was chosen as Outstanding Youth Leadership Awardee in the field of Politics and Good Governance.

The criteria were set as follows:

Innovation (30 pts.)

The development of a new approach or dimension to projects at the local, regional, and/or national level;
The introduction of a novel approach to deal with long-standing issue at the local, regional, and/or national level.

Leadership (50 points)

Demonstration of leadership through concrete projects or through a strong commitment and contribution at the local, regional, and/or national level.

Partnership (20 points)

The creation of partnership with or among community groups, the business community or other rural/urban stakeholders which have produced concrete outcomes.

Other awardees are Calasiao, Pangasinan Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay for Politics and Good Governance; Danilo Rogayan of Zambales and Jovic Yee of Albay for Environment Category; Brenfred Romero of Eastern Samar and Kristoffer Rivera of Cagayan de Oro for Community Service category; and Alein Navares of Cebu and Niel Sandoval of Manila for the field of Education.

Hon. Peñol is an AB Political Science and Public Administration Student of Central Philippine University and is one of the Youngest Municipal Councilors in the country today.

Peñol launches book at an international conference

Last August 4 during his talk about Good Government and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Achievement simultaneous to the celebration of the 12th International Youth Day of the United Nations at Sarabia manor Hotel, Iloilo City, Philippines, Pavia Councilor Peñol launched his book entitled, "Leadership Next: A Guide for Emerging Leaders of the New Generation."

During the book launch, hundreds of books were sold signifying the great interest of the readers especially the youth about how everyday leadership could influence and guide them in making their long-term choices.

"The said book focuses on the values and principles of leadership and how the youth can contribute to nation-building through the spirit of volunteerism," says Peñol

Primary leadership takes center stage in this book. This concept goes beyond the set of conventional competencies on the making of a leader and the growth of emerging leaders. Beyond bottom line figures, this book takes a leap forward with the concept of primary leadership through a keen and in-depth understanding of emotional intelligence and its link to leading and building emotionally intelligent organizations.

Leadership Next is sold at 200 pesos and the proceeds will go to the Church Restoration Project of the Sta. Monica Parish and the Juniors for Progress Movement, a community youth-based movement he founded in 2003.
