A few months ago, I spent a great weekend with friends in Guanajuato, Mexico. It's a quiet colonial town in central Mexico, a little West of Queretaro. It was the perfect place to relax and escape from the city!

Beautiful Places: Mackinac Island, Michigan

I stayed at the Island House with my girlfriends for a fun bachelorette weekend. It happened to be the same weekend as the Republican Leadership Convention which made things interesting! We had a blast - riding bikes, picnicking, rocking out with our boom box, and drinking wine.

It also went over surprisingly well when my friends started calling former U.S. Republican Representative, Peter Hoekstra, "SAILOR." Mackinac Island can be a little stuffy in general, but we had a wonderful girls weekend. It was everything we hoped it would be!

Fashion in Detroit 2012

Yesterday I was lucky enough to score tickets to Fashion in Detroit 2012, in Sound Board at Motor City Casino. The event is co-hosted by Project Runway's Joe Faris and Ambassador Magazine Publisher and Jewelry Designer, Denise Ilitch.

Beautiful Places: Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

The Caribbean Beach Resort is considered a Disney Moderate Resort, a step up from the Disney Value Resort where I stayed last year. The differences I noticed were in the outside appearance of the hotel and the pool and cafeteria area, called Old Port Royale. There really wasn't much difference in the actual room at all.

From the outside, the Caribbean Beach Resort looks like a tropical getaway. The pool is COOL! I didn't go in, but if I were 13 or under, I would have loved hanging out in the pirate ship pool. The secluded hammocks and view of the lake were more my style.

The downside, this resort is big and our room was pretty far away from Old Port Royale. To get to there, we had to take a bus around the lake. Often, it was more convenient to skip breakfast and coffee at the Old Port Royale and head straight to the park than to wait for a bus to the cafeteria. Unless you are going to spend a significant amount of time on the Disney Resort, I would probably recommend the Value Resort. It's the same room and you don't need to take a bus to get your coffee.

Here is my tribute to I. de S. and Wife v. W. de S. ENJOY!

The plaintiff was suing on behalf of his wife,

because the defendant was inches from taking her life!

This husband was simply holding a grudge,

the drunkard explained to the judge,

"I was slamming my ax on the door

when out popped the head of his whore.

She stuck her face out the window to see the cause of this racket,
and her head nearly missed the blade of my hatchet.

An imminent battery I wanted her to think,

so she would be frightened and get me a drink."

The judge would not have it

this can't be a habit.

He declared the defendant at fault

we will not tolerate assault!

So the next time you are in need of some wine,

you better remember this line...

if you swing your hatchet at the head of your neighbor.

the court's ruling will not be found in your favor.

Maurice's Main Street Model

I was accepted to be a part of the Maurices Main Street Model Search! WOO! I am so excited about this opportunity because it's for a good cause.

As you may know, 14 years ago my dad died of Colon Cancer and every 5 years I have to get screened myself. According to a study by the American Cancer Society, removing non-cancerous polyps during colonoscopies resulted in 53% fewer deaths than would be expected from a group similar in race, age, and gender in the general population. In fact, having colonoscopies and removing the polyps was pretty much the same as not ever having any polyps at all! You can read more about Colon Cancer on the American Cancer Society's website here.

Wire Name Hanger Tutorial

About a year ago I made some wire name hangers for my friends who were in a wedding with me. We used them to keep track of our bridesmaids dresses and the bride used her's as a pretty substitute for a plain hanger in the photos of the wedding dress.

I think they would also be nice to use for a baptism or a 1st communion.

Well, since then, a lot of friends and family have wanted to know how to make them. Here's how!

Back to Reality - Cold and Snowy

A - MAZ - ING vacation at the Riu Montego Bay. Relaxing by the pool in the gorgeous sun was a great change from the Michigan snow and cold. Had lots of fun sipping Pina Coladas, snorkeling, and tanning. I hope I can go back to the Riu again one day.

So, back to reality. Michigan is freezing and on that note - I am officially signed up for my first adult figure skating competition and my first competition in 7 years! Yikes! I've only been back on the ice a few times and I've been able to land an axel and a double salchow. I'm hoping to get a double toe loop and a double loop to add to that list! Here's the countdown - wish me LUCK!

New Competitions

I have been so eager to dive into a new challenge and I am pumped about two opportunities that I have come across. One, is a competition which would donate money to a charity of my choosing (more on that later) and the second one is competing in the Adult Midwestern Figure Skating Sectionals!

I haven't competed in a figure skating competition in 7 years! Phew - it's hard to believe it was that long ago. It was, however, quite a highlight of my skating career. My last competition was Collegiate Synchronized Nationals and my team - Western Michigan University - placed 2nd! Here we are featured in Synchronized Skating Magazine!

Recently though, I have really been itching to get back on the ice. The competition is a qualifying event held in Grand Rapids on March 16-18. Soooo here's the new countdown!
