A few years back, Martha Stewart taught me how to fold a fitted sheet the right way. Well, not really in person {I wish}; but the Martha Stewart Homekeeping Handbook sure did help.

A friend recently requested a video for these instructions on how to fold a fitted sheet. Turns out, they are the same instructions from the book.

So, while I'm a few weeks late on delivering this video...here it is, friend.

I don't like the way I sound on camera, so I'm only demonstrating the steps. I hope it helps. :)

Oh, and please excuse the funny noises that Bubba is making. He wanted to be a part of the video too.

Bubba wasn't overly interested in the activities I had planned this week. So he chose most of the things we did this week.

Yellow Yarn Y - I drew an uppercase and lowercase Y on a piece of card stock, and cut short strips of yarn to be glued on the letters. This craft is from the book Alphabet Art: With A to Z Animal Art & Finger Play {I apparently can't follow directions, and gave Bubba yarn in a variety of colors...oopsies}.

We read the book Yoko Yak's Yakety Yakking by Barbara deRubertis, about a million times. It is a very cute story about a very yakety yak. I'm looking forward to reading more of the Animal Antics series with Bubba, since he really enjoyed this book.

Bubba made is own yakety yak. This is another craft from Alphabet Art: With A to Z Animal Art & Finger Play.

Then he pretended he was a yak climbing on steep "rocks" {for about an hour...yay!}.

Boyschool - Letter Z

Everyone has headed back-to-school, which means Home Preschool has officially started for us. We dabbled over the summer with a few preschool packs here and there, but now we've gotten serious. With a schedule and everything. Craziness. I know.

Bubba decided he wanted to start the year off at the end of the alphabet.

I gathered printable material from Confessions of a Homeschooler's Letter of the Week Alphabet Activities, Oopsey Daisy's Mommy School packet, Bible ABC's, and TLS Books.

Z is for Zaccheaus from Bible ABC's. We also read The Story of Zacchaeus up a tree, and watched the video Miracles of Jesus: Zacchaeus. Our song for the week - Zacchaeus Song {I thought this video was a little strange, but he loved it}.

These were a hit with Bubba the last time I made them. I love that I get to sneak a veggie in a sweet treat.

I found an awesome book during our library trip - Kathy Ross Crafts: Letter Shapes.

Another idea from the book that we're using is an Alphabet Picture File. We'll be making an envelope, for saving pictures of things that start with each letter of the alphabet.

Circle Toss:

I made circle bean bags that Bubba tossed into a couple buckets and his tube (that was tied closed).

This reminded me of a game from the Bozo the Clown show - ya know, the one were the contestants would throw ping pong balls into 10 buckets to win different prizes. Am I the only one that remembers this game? Or this show?

The first week went well. We'll see how the second week goes. :)

Marble Coaster

Hubby had Monday off due to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac (it hadn't yet turned into a hurricane). Luckily, Isaac passed us by; but with on-again-off-again rain showers, we were stuck inside most of the day.

Hubby and Bubba spent the afternoon constructing a marble coaster.

Really, Hubs did most of the constructing, and Bubba took a lot of breaks to play with his trains.

Either way, Bubba LOVED the finished product. Three days later, he is still obsessed with the coaster.

I found the idea in the September issue of Family Fun magazine. I tried to find a link to it on their website, but haven't had any luck with my searches.

So, (straight from the magazine) this is what you'll need to make own of your own:

Heavy-duty paper plates

Cardboard tubes

Glue dots or Hot glue

For the track, trim the curved outer edge from several heavy-duty paper plates. Cut sections of various lengths, then overlap and tape the ends together to form one long twisting route.

For the supports, trim cardboard tubes into graduated lengths, beginning with a half-inch tall and adding a half-inch to each subsequent support. Starting at the low end, secure the track to the supports {we used hot glue; the magazine suggested using glue dots to allow your child to reposition the supports if needed}.

Also, I don't know if it was because of the type of plates we used, but the boys had to add those flaps on the edge to keep the marbles from falling off.

DIY Diaper Cake

I helped Mimi put together a diaper cake for a baby shower in honor of a gal in her bible study group. I had never made one before, but knew it couldn't be that difficult.

I did a bit of Googling and found the easiest tutorial from Momaroo.

We used a basic cake stand as our base.

The instructions said to start out with one large piece of twine and add folded diapers until you've made the size you want {I'm not sure how this was done alone, Mimi and I found it difficult with two of us trying to hold the diapers}. We found it easier to create smaller sections of diapers with twine, then wrap each section together with the larger piece of twine. It comes out exactly the same as the tutorial, and prevented the diapers from moving around while trying to tie them together.

I decorated each layer with pretty girly ribbon using double sided tape and bit of hot glue. Mimi made the bows. And we topped it with a cute pair of baby booties.

Happy 4th of July!

We didn't have any big plans for the day...no day at the beach, no barbecue or picnic, and definitely trying to avoid the fireworks {especially since the wonderful people in my neighborhood have felt it necessary to put on a show for the last 3 days}. I'm starting to sound like a grouchy old lady.

Bubba and I celebrated in our own way. We went bowling and swimming.

Made this festive sensory bin.

Attempted to make our own firework art,

which didn't work out quite how Better Homes and Gardens said it would. {Note: to make diluted glue use 2 parts glue to 1 part water}

And Bubba worked on his 4th of July Preschool Unit from 2 Teaching Mommies.

Half Way to Christmas

Last Monday, we had a few friends over for a Half Way to Christmas Party play-date.

What better way to stay cool in the summer, than to celebrate the moderately cool (in Florida) month of December?

We kept cool with this awesome Frozen Hot Chocolate (recipe from Serendipity's).

And kept our tummies full with yummy ~~semi-~~homemade "pop tarts," cut into fun holiday shapes.

To make your own tarts, you'll need:

store bought pie crust

preserves or other filling

cookie cutters

Cut the pie crust with the cookie cutters, or use a knife to cut into small squares. Spread the preserves on one side of pie crust. Top with the second piece and crimp edges with a fork. Bake at 400º for 9-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Top with your favorite frosting, or make your own...

1 cup powdered sugar

1 Tbs milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

Counting Goldfish

This activity was part of the Letter F pack I put together for Bubba.

I cut out 10 fish bowls on construction paper, numbered them 1-10, and laminated them. Then gave Bubba a small box of goldfish to count with.

For every one fish he put down on a card, he would put one in his mouth.

DIY Wedding Day Emergency Kit

I put together this handy Wedding Day Emergency Kit for my friend JJ, to give to her at the bridesmaid luncheon the day before her wedding. I intended to make a cute little tag for it as well, but you know how I am. Maybe it will make it on Moni's kit in a few months...or not - we'll see. Either way, it is quite a handy little bag.

JJ swore up and down she did NOT need an emergency kit. But, she was wrong. As I knew she would be. Which is why I made it anyway.

Of course you can pick up a pre-made kit {you can also find M.O.B/M.O.G survival kits, bridesmaid's kits, and even a cute Hemergancy kit here}. Funny fact: I saw the survival kits I linked to on the Today Show the other day - while I was writing this.

I'll be honest, making it yourself and purchasing it off of the website is about the same price. However, making your own version is much more meaningful, you can pack it with any specific products that your bride uses, and you can pick out a pretty cosmetic bag that you know your friend would like.

Here is what I included:

I went through my house first, and found quite a few things on the list - including the snacks. Then, I went to Walmart's travel product section and found nearly everything remaining. What I didn't find in that section was in the surrounding area. I picked up the cosmetic bag at Target.

I also created myself a "Matron of Honor Emergency Bag." Which included the dryer sheets/fashion tape/eye drops {mentioned above}, sand paper (to rub on the bottom of slippery new shoes), flat iron, hair dryer, headbands, a clothes steamer, and bottled water. I'm the kind of person that likes to be over-prepared...can you tell? You just never know what you might need.

Although, we didn't use everything from the kits, they were EXTREMELY helpful for those unexpected emergencies. Moral of the story, don't let your bride try to tell you that she won't need an emergency kit....because she {and everyone else getting ready with her} will need it.

Lots of Succulents and a Wedding

One of my besties, JJ, got hitched last weekend.

And yes, you read that correctly...I just said "got hitched."

She LOVES succulents. So it is only natural that they were incorporated into every aspect of the wedding.

Succulents? At a wedding? Really? Oooohh, that girl's cray cray....

JJ and her mom, DD, made these bouquets together. JJ's looked very similar to mine (the one above), just bigger, because ya know, she was the bride.

I promise they looked nicer the day of the wedding. I waited a week to take this picture, so they look kind of dry.

The day of the wedding, JJ, DD, and I made these hair clips. The small ones were worn by the flower girls; and the large one was worn by the blushing bride.

They were surprisingly easy to throw together. I cut a piece of ribbon to go over the barrette and clips. DD and JJ trimmed the succulents down so they would lay flat. Then, I hot glued the succulents to the clips. It only took about 20 minutes to make them all. And the only reason it took that long, was because we were debating which succulent pieces to use.

While I was hot gluing away, JJ and DD were putting together this boutonniere for JJ's groom.

JJ and DD made the centerpieces. And each guest went home with their very own small potted succulent.

And, of course, the whole succulent theme would not have been complete without her cake being covered in large plants.

Obviously not succulents related, but I just had to include a picture of the groom's cake. Can you tell that he is a fan of Natty?

So there ya go. If you were ever wondering how to incorporate succulents into your BIG day, now ya know.

Such an awesome post title, don't ya think?

But seriously, golf tees, foam, and a toy hammer are wayyyyy better than a real hammer and nails. At least when it comes to my little guy...and this is coming from the person who lets her child play with just about anything in the house (with supervision of course).

And it is at the very least 45 minutes of fun, with only 2 simple steps:

(1) Poke the golf tees in the foam

(2) Hammer them in

Another plus...you don't have to worry about your little one whacking a finger with the hammer because the tee will stand up on it's own thanks to the foam.

I helped Bubba make this (what is supposed to be a) fish design. We were doing activities related to fish/sea animals that week, so it seemed fitting.

Then he just did his own thing, and proceeded to cover the entire piece of foam in golf tees.

Fun Friday - Fort Building with my boys

I wouldn't call myself an expert fort builder, but this ain't my first time at the rodeo

I think I can throw a pretty decent fort together with a little rope, a few clothes pins, and a couple sheets....

We hung one piece of rope across the room, from the sliding doors to a closet door. Now I say "we," but let's be honest, I did the majority of the work - even with a capable 8 year old sitting in the room.

He did help set up the two poles that held the other piece of rope.

We hung the second sheet from the middle rope to the t.v. - that is conveniently located at fort building level.

Then Finding Nemo became faaaarrrr more interesting than setting up our most amazing fort.

{It would have been better to run a 3rd piece of rope over the t.v. though. I think the fort would have held up a bit better. But we'll save that for another rainy day sleepover.}

All of Those Rainy Days...

Hurricane season is officially upon us...

With the weather not really cooperating with us, we've been stuck indoors a lot the last week. We usually get a small window of time to sneak outside, but it is short lived. So, here are a couple things we've been doing to keep ourselves entertained...

Small Objects and Alphabet Cards

This activity is done on a daily basis; but they really come in handy when it's raining.

These items are just small toys we've collected from around the house. I've tried to represent every letter of the alphabet {I'm still working to find objects for Q, I, and X}, so that he can match the item to the letter card. However, you don't have to use the cards; sometimes Bubba just likes to play with the toys instead.

Cardboard City

We've recently purchased a few small Lego City sets, and since I'm not ready to invest in the larger sets, I was inspired to create our own cardboard city.

So I whipped up a few buildings out of cardboard shipping boxes and cereal/cookie boxes.

Then, it was time to put all of Bubba's emergency vehicles and rescue workers to good use.

The fireman rescued the lady off of the burning building....such a hero.

Baking

I also decided rainy days are the perfect excuse to stuff our faces with cinnamon buns.

I'll confess now that these are not made from scratch. All the props go to Immaculate Baking Co. They are delish....go get yourself some!

You're probably thinking, "oh girl, you're updating another room when you still have the spare bedroom to finish?! Could you just finish a project already?"

I've shut the door to the junk room {aka spare bedroom/office}, and started going over my list of updates to the play area:

- book storage

- better/more toy storage

- paint table/chairs

- shelves

You get the idea...

I started by making these little shelves.

I found the pieces of wood up in the attic (score!); so all I had to do was paint them.

Then I used something similar to these shelf brackets that I picked up at Ace Hardware {my new favorite home improvement store...such a helpful place}.

With a little help from JJ, these babies were hung in no time.

Prayers that I complete this project sooner rather than later are greatly appreciated. =)

Thursday Things

(1) Have you ever gotten a toy airplane stuck in your hair? Yea, me neither.

(2) Making this Skateboard Swing, as soon as I find a skateboard at a yard sale/thrift store. If you see one, puh-lease pick it up for me....

(3) Obsessed with this chocolate right now. So much so, that I may even hide it from Bubba when we get home from the store so that he forgets we bought it, then secretly eat it while he's sleeping. Doesn't everyone do that?

(4) Sponge Water Bombs. Yea. That's happening this summer.

(5) I chuckled when I noticed this billboard today...Note: if you have to make it clear that the girls are not for rent, then "Rent Us!" is probably not the best wording to put on your billboard next to 2 barely dressed girls. Just a thought. P.S. I prefer Rent the Runway.

Rainbow Fish CD Suncatcher

Continuing our "under the sea" theme, we did a little up-cycled fish craft. Here's what you need to make one of your own...

Supplies:

Googly eyes

Scrapbook paper

Tape or Glue

Scissors

String/Hole Punch (optional)

Draw and cut out the pieces of the fish on scrapbook paper.

Tape/glue all of the pieces, except the side fin, on to the front of the CD...which will now be the back.

Secure the side fin with tape/glue over the hole in the center of the CD, on the shiny side...which is now the front of your fish.

Add the googly eye, and punch a hole in the top fin for the string.

Ocean in a Bag

After our recent field trip to the Aquarium, we put together our own ocean in a bag.

It was fun, easy, and could be {mostly} done unassisted by a 2.5 year old.

Supplies:

Hair Gel {blue; or clear and use blue food coloring}

Sea creatures

Shells

Plastic bags

All items {minus the shells, of course} can be found at the dollar store. If your dollar store, like mine, doesn't have blue hair gel, use the clear gel with just a drop of two or food coloring. Also, if you can't find the little plastic sea creatures, you can use colored foam sheets to cut out the shapes of the animals.

Bubba liked squishing the gel, and I liked seeing the light reflect through.

Pin-tested, Toddler Approved: Colored Vinegar and Baking Soda

Bubs and I tested out a fun activity for toddlers using colored vinegar and backing soda, that I found on Pinterest. Of course, I can't find the original source, but I googled "colored vinegar and baking soda toddler activity," and found many matches. Here is just 1 of the 219,000 that Google came up with.

You don't need much for this, and it will keep your little one entertained for at least an hour. At least that's how long it held Bubba's attention.

All you need is baking soda, vinegar and food coloring, a medicine dropper, and a plate or rimmed baking sheet. The plates we used are from Ikea, and were just perfect. They come in a set of 4.

He had so much fun watching the baking soda fizz every time he dropped the vinegar on it. I had fun getting some laundry folded while he was busy doing this.

I think we'll try this baking soda and vinegar activity next.

Dot Sticker Art

We watched 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure recently. And by recently, I mean, when we did this project we had just watched it for the 4th time, and since I've been a slacker with posting, we have since watched it, 10 more times.

I don't know if you can tell by that picture, but a lot of the movie revolves around this artist painting black dots {which reminds Cruella de Ville of the puppies, of course}.

Since we were working on the letter D, and I had found these black dot stickers at a yard sale, we naturally decided to make some dot art inspired by the dalmatians.

He actually, surprisingly, really enjoyed doing this project. And it was simple, and mess free, so a BIG plus in my book {not that I don't enjoy getting messy with the little guy}.

I intended on having him just use the black dots, and really after he had finished putting on the ones above, he was kind of done.

I thought it looked kind of dull with just the black ones, so I left all of the stickers out during the day, and he would come back to every so often and add more stickers.

This is what we ended up with......two days later.

Picture Frame Dry Erase To-Do List

I'm baaaaaaaaacckk!

I hope you just read that the way I said it in my head.

I've made it through the busiest 3 weeks of my year {so far...I have a few more busy weeks ahead}, and I have a super easy DIY project for you.

Remember this frame I painted awhile ago when I made over that adorable tray?

Well, I turned it into a dry erase to-do list. You can use it as a message board, too. I just really wanted a place to write a weekly to-do list. Let me also note, that after I wrote the list on there when I completed this project, ::cough cough, a month ago, cough cough::, I never have updated it. Whoopsies.

Anyway, it was super simple to through this together.

I used a printable scrapbook paper as my background {from Karen Lewis Designz <--- so many cute and free printables!}.

I love the old tea stained paper look!

I printed out 3 copies and taped them together to fit the frame.

Since I was missing the back of the frame...ya know, the part that is supposed to keep the pictures, or in this case, papers stuck to the glass...I used a 1/4 piece of foam board for the back. You can pick this up at the Dollar Tree for, um, a dollar.

Put it all together, and whatta got.....

I know that I have been completely absent the last few weeks. Recently, I have been so overwhelmed with weddings, showers, traveling, and just day to day life.

Wild Dunes, South Carolina

I don't know if I have really mentioned it before, but Hubby has been deployed {sort of - it's kind of hard to explain, so we'll just leave it at deployed} since November, and was supposed to be returning in May. Until it was decided that he would be staying where he's at {again, kind of. He doesn't really stay in one place for long} for another 4 months.

With Hubs being gone, taking care of the little guy, and just keeping up with everything else in our lives that has to be taken care of....I am completely worn out. It has been hard for me to find the energy to get any of our home projects done, craft with Bubba, and write. But, after my {very } short getaway last weekend, I have recharged my batteries {as much as I could}, and am ready to face off with the next few months.

With all that being said, this is what we have been up to:

Sil and I took a trip up to South Carolina for one of our best friends wedding.

It rained during the ceremony, but the pay off was this gorgeous rainbow that appeared right after they were pronounced husband and wife. So AWESOME!

Sil caught the bouquet. She claims that she didn't mean too; but it's quite fitting, since she will be my last un-married friend as of November.

We went blueberry picking at one of our favorite local blueberry farms, BlueYouth Berries.

Creating beautiful works of art using glue, kool-aid, and pieces of paper.

I've also been working with my friend Jill, on some projects to sell...visit our blog

After our upcoming trip to visit my brother, things should be pretty calm around here for a few weeks. Then, on to my best friend JJ's wedding (#2 of 4) in June.

Small Objects A-Z

I hope ya'll have had a great week! With Bubba slowly giving up his afternoon nap (grrrrr), I have been falling behind in writing. Plus I have been so exhausted lately, that when he does nap, I am laying down with him. It's just been one of those weeks.....

Since naps are coming to an end, I've tried to find things to entertain this little guy. I did a busy bag swap with a friend...but those activities don't seem to hold his attention for very long.

So I put together a bag of small trinkets.

Most of the items I found around the house, and I tried to find something to represent each letter of the alphabet. Why we have "junk" like this hanging around the house? I do not know; but it has certainly come in handy.

Some letters have multiple objects, and I'm still trying to find things for O, Q, U, and V {but I can just add those later}.

He absolutely loves his bag of trinkets. I love that he will play with the things for hours...WITHOUT ME.

When I am playing with him, I'll ask him to find me things that are all the same color. Or start with a certain letter, which is still a bit advanced for him, but he does surprisingly well for the most part.

It's fun to see how he plays with everything.

He made a little sensory box with water beads, a few of the sea creatures, and a pirate {of course}.

He walked into my room the other day with the wand and tiara saying, "I'm a princess."

Whoopsies....we've been watching too much Cinderella; and maybe I shouldn't have included those objects.

He also tried to fly like a bird and flapped the feathers around like they were his wings. It was pretty hilarious...I wish I had video of it.
