How To Prepare For A Hurricane

2012-10-30T08:00:00.000-04:00

This is what I ran out and picked up at Target and CVS and the dollar store yesterday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy.

Half and half for my coffee.
Diet Coke. (2L on sale for $0.88 this week)
Candles. ($1 from Dollar General)
Applesauce squeezy thingies. Just in case. Plus, I love them. Great to toss in a bag for a snack on the go.

Notice that my haul does not include batteries. I searched high and low for D batteries to use in an old boom box in case of power outage. But it seems that everyone else beat me to the punch. Which makes sense as I went on this big search around 2 in the afternoon.

Bottom line. I was happy as a clam. I had a chicken in the crockpot and a big glass of wine and all my necessities at the ready. Just in case.

How did you prepare for Hurricane Sandy? And did your area have much damage? I hope not!

Ball Canning Jars At A Crazy Great Price

2012-10-09T09:00:00.000-04:00

Do you can? I do. Not much. A few preserves. To use mostly as gifts. Salsa. Which I give sparingly as gifts because I hoard it for myself. And sometimes something quirky like pickled watermelon rind or banana pineapple jam.

But jars are awesome for a million other uses. Like vases or storage or casual water glasses and the list goes on. Check out Pinterest for awesome ideas.

Plus, jars last forever. Seriously, they are a lifetime purchase. You just need to buy new tops if you plan to can with them.

Right now, Lowes has them on a crazy, super awesome sale. Prices and availability vary by region. Because the best deal is to ship them for free to the store. So you are limited to what your store has available.

But at these prices, I am absolutely stocking up for next summer's canning.

FREE Organic Foods

2012-09-12T18:00:00.000-04:00

I'm not sure if any of y'all use Vitacost. It's like Ruelala and the like but for health products, such as organic or gluten free food products. I've shopped there a few times and have really liked it so far.

Right now they have a great deal running that's worth me sharing. If you sign up using this link, you automatically get a $10 credit. It only takes a few minutes for it to show up too. Then you can purchase a few items that are currently part of the special deal shipping for free right now. If your items total around $10, you will get all of those items shipped to you for free or nearly free, depending on the price of items you choose.

Vitacost

Oh and with every order, you are able to add two free samples to your cart. Just scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on "free samples" and add two to your cart. Yay for more freebies!

In all fairness, I also get a $10 credit if you sign up and make a purchase. But you can then post it on your blog to get a credit or two, too. Honestly though, I've been shopping on this site for about a year now and just wanted to share the $10 instant credit with you. It's a great way to stop up on a few staples for next to nothing, without leaving your living room.

Shop here

I'm using this sale to stock up on a few favorites like Gluten Free crackers, coconut oil, and organic pumpkin. I love having these on hand this time of year!

I love free ORGANIC food!

OK tomorrow I promise I will be back with a normal post. But free food and vitamins just seemed worth sharing.
