This semester the most exciting news is that the Visual+Media Arts Department at Bunker Hill Community College has installed the latest, greatest and newest version of Adobe's Creative Suite: CS5. The three programs are essential to Graphic Designers and Illustrators and Photographers.

InDesign is now both a print and interactive publishing tool, Illustrator has added some amazing features including perspective drawing and the dazzling new tools in Photoshop are a "beautiful thing." Below I've posted some vids from Terry White who has a great enthusiasm as well as a great delivery about some of these new features.

There are 3 courses offered, and returning students can register online.
(http://onlineservices.bhcc.mass.edu)

New students will need to visit the college and follow the procedure described here:
(http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/inside/1012)

Adobe InDesign CS5 - My Top 5 Favorite Features

From Terry White:
Adobe has released the NEW Creative Suite 5 and I thought I would share with you my Top 5 Favorite Features in InDesign CS5. 80 large-scale public projections around the world. In these works, he transforms the stories, voices, and gestures of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances by projecting them onto public monuments and landmarks.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 265px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PY9-gH_0T3k/S4bfKh2LiEI/AAAAAAAAAek/e0SUtEl3erk/s400/ICA_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442282571701127234" />

In a new, projection-based work for the ICA, Wodiczko focuses on veterans engaged in active combat in Iraq, as well as Iraqi civilians. He taught film communication from 1968-1980 at Babson College. Since leaving Babson he has become a community arts activist, and co-founded the Brookline Arts Council, started the Rear Window, a portable film society featuring cult and local independent films; in 1988 he led the battle to save the Coolidge Corner theatre in Brookline, and once, having saved it, ran the Coolidge until 1996.

He started Local Sightings, which started as a show-case for locally produced, independent film. Local Sightings still works as an advisor to film-makers on the development of their projects, and onto the marketing of their projects, and is an advisor to film festivals in New England, and throughout North America.

Below is the vid he has brought to see the "style" of filmakers and how their view can impact our perception of the film.

Watteau to Degas: French Drawings from the Frits Lugt Collection

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 284px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PY9-gH_0T3k/S0DlBUFB9CI/AAAAAAAAAeM/kU9a0y6pQJU/s400/Watteau.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422585762086515746" />

Antoine Watteau 1684–1721
Seated Young Woman
Black, red, and white chalk on buff paper

I visited NY, NY and the beautiful Frick Collection on 71st Street and 5th Avenue. The current exhibition is Watteau to Degas: French Drawings from the Frits Lugt Collection. And although there is really only 1 Degas, there are many, many beautiful drawings from the era. "Included are drawings and watercolors by well-known masters of the French School such as Watteau, Boucher, Fragonard, David, Ingres, and Degas, as well as by important figures who are less familiar to the general public. This is the first time that a group of French master drawings from the Fondation Custodia has traveled to New York."

Above is a lovely Watteau from the show.

From the website:

Watteau is best known for his rapidly executed figure studies in trois crayons, using red, black, and white chalks. This sheet is an exceptional example of his mastery of the technique and embodies such immediacy and energy that one does not notice at first that the artist did not include the lower half of the woman's right leg and foot and failed to indicate the base on which she is seated. Trimmed from a larger sheet, the original may have included multiple studies.

Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection

Also while in New York, New York (aka New York City) I visited the museum exhibition of jewelry from the personal collection of Madeleine Albright at the Museum of Arts and Design will remain on view through January 31, 2010.

Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection features more than 200 pins, many of which Secretary Albright wore to communicate a message or a mood during her diplomatic tenure. The exhibition examines the collection for its historic significance as well as the expressive power of jewelry and its ability to communicate through a style and language of its own. The exhibition will be presented in the Museum's Tiffany & Co. Gallery, dedicated to the study and presentation of contemporary jewelry from around the world.
