I had to rethink the entire melody without ruining the essence of the original.  I’m sure there was plenty of over-thinking and non objective insecurity on my end but I left the session wondering if I had completely destroyed my child.
I’ve spent the majority of my in air experience going over the vocals - deciding what needs to be simplified & what should be left alone.  I have a few days - time to let it lie.

After spending several weeks searching for the perfect timbre, we found her - a beautiful grand nestled in the corner of my friend’s studio.  She had to be sad - slightly imperfect - able to tell these stories without uttering a single word.  In the sincerest definition of pathetic, she was.  By the end of the day we had tracked (with the help of the brilliant Matt Butler) 3 devastating gems: 1 leaning towards the gospel of my youth and 2 ready for mascara streaks and crisp fall days set to repeat.  “she” is quickly taking shape. I continue to change my mind as to when she will see the light of day.  There is a huge part of me that would like to put her out as soon as October - so for now, I’ll say that’s the direction I’m leaning towards.  I’m off to cut vocals for “keep me alive”.  Next week the radiant Ms. Taylor comes in to lend her virtue to the moody gospel/folk number - you ain’t ready!

Ashland is the stop over on our way to LA.  I’ve been here on several occasions.  No malls, trendy shops or distractions from a nearby theater.  Just a small ski town full of bookstores, mom & pop cafes, a killer pub & home-spun chocolate (if you look closely you can see a half eaten raspberry truffle - yes, I fell off the wagon… again… it’s bad this time… BAD!! ).
I’ll be back in Nashville in a week - a short three day “layover” before the next trek.
Oh, I almost forgot… Justin’s new website (Sleepthief.com) will be up soon with a snippet of the single, “World Gone Crazy”.  I will make sure to let you know when it’s “live”- very excited about that - can’t wait for you guys to hear it.

I’ve dreamed about filming a video since I was seven - sitting in front of my friends TV (MTV was a sin in our house), watching the craft unfold - videos have always been an addiction for me.  For years I’ve spent countless hours imagining what it would be like to turn my words into pictures - never knowing if it would ever happen.  So first, I must say thank you to Justin, Eric & Phil for making that dream a reality.  IN the midst of an extremely difficult season in my life you gave me 6 days.  Six days of falling backwards off ladders, lying (wet) in snow, being mauled by wolves, molested by a beautiful women and struggling for air under a sheet of “ice”.  The most uncomfortable, amazing, exhilarating and exhausting experience of my life.

Before I forget I want to thank Crystal & Tracey for helping make this video such an amazing experience - we could not have done this without you!

day1:  we spent the morning setting up the trampoline that would break my fall.  These were the “green screen” setups.  Take after take of me falling from a ladder onto a green screen covered tramp.  Every angle was explored.

day2: the actual “location shoot” began on day 2.  We arrived at the salon for hair and makeup around 8am while the crew prepped the opening shot.  After nearly 10hrs of shooting, the initial “chase” sequence was captured.  Christy was a trooper, standing in snow barefoot/or in sandals for most of the day.

day3: the most demanding of the 4 day shoot.  We shot everything from the wolf attacks to the performance piece - a nearly impossible day.  There was one point where both Christy and myself we soaking wet lying in snow (it’s not what you think) - not comfortable but unforgettable.

day4:  this final day of shooting was our only interior setup.  Fully clothed under water is not fun - that’s all I can say.

I know the description is cryptic but I want to keep as much mystery as possible until the final product is unveiled.  I will post a bloggeo or two in the coming weeks showing behind the scenes.  Until then, be easy.
