<h4 class="psalm-title"><span class="text Ps-98-1">A Psalm.</span></h4>

<p class="line"><span class="text Ps-98-1"><sup class="versenum">1 </sup>O sing to the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> a new song,</span><br />
<span class="indent-1"><span class="indent-1-breaks">    </span><span class="text Ps-98-1">for he has done marvelous things.</span></span><br />
<span class="text Ps-98-1">His right hand and his holy arm</span><br />
<span class="indent-1"><span class="indent-1-breaks">    </span><span class="text Ps-98-1">have gotten him victory.</span></span><br />

<h3><span id="en-NRSV-28651" class="text 1Cor-13-1">The Gift of Love</span></h3>
<p class="chapter-2"><span class="text 1Cor-13-1"><span class="chapternum">13 </span>If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28652" class="text 1Cor-13-2"><sup class="versenum">2 </sup>And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28653" class="text 1Cor-13-3"><sup class="versenum">3 </sup>If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast,<sup class="footnote" style="font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;" data-fn="#fen-NRSV-28653a" data-link="[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NRSV-28653a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;/a&gt;]">[<a title="See footnote a" href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013&amp;version=NRSV&amp;interface=print#fen-NRSV-28653a">a</a>]</sup> but do not have love, I gain nothing.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-28654" class="text 1Cor-13-4"><sup class="versenum">4 </sup>Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant </span><span id="en-NRSV-28655" class="text 1Cor-13-5"><sup class="versenum">5 </sup>or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; </span><span id="en-NRSV-28656" class="text 1Cor-13-6"><sup class="versenum">6 </sup>it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28657" class="text 1Cor-13-7"><sup class="versenum">7 </sup>It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-28658" class="text 1Cor-13-8"><sup class="versenum">8 </sup>Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28659" class="text 1Cor-13-9"><sup class="versenum">9 </sup>For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; </span><span id="en-NRSV-28660" class="text 1Cor-13-10"><sup class="versenum">10 </sup>but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28661" class="text 1Cor-13-11"><sup class="versenum">11 </sup>When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28662" class="text 1Cor-13-12"><sup class="versenum">12 </sup>For now we see in a mirror, dimly,<sup class="footnote" style="font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;" data-fn="#fen-NRSV-28662b" data-link="[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NRSV-28662b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;/a&gt;]">[<a title="See footnote b" href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013&amp;version=NRSV&amp;interface=print#fen-NRSV-28662b">b</a>]</sup> but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. </span><span id="en-NRSV-28663" class="text 1Cor-13-13"><sup class="versenum">13 </sup>And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.</span></p>

<h3><span id="en-NRSV-5841" class="text Deut-34-1">Moses Dies and Is Buried in the Land of Moab</span></h3>
<p class="chapter-2"><span class="text Deut-34-1"><span class="chapternum">34 </span>Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho, and the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> showed him the whole land: Gilead as far as Dan, </span><span id="en-NRSV-5842" class="text Deut-34-2"><sup class="versenum">2 </sup>all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, </span><span id="en-NRSV-5843" class="text Deut-34-3"><sup class="versenum">3 </sup>the Negeb, and the Plain—that is, the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees—as far as Zoar. </span><span id="en-NRSV-5844" class="text Deut-34-4"><sup class="versenum">4 </sup>The <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-5845" class="text Deut-34-5"><sup class="versenum">5 </sup>Then Moses, the servant of the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>, died there in the land of Moab, at the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>’s command. </span><span id="en-NRSV-5846" class="text Deut-34-6"><sup class="versenum">6 </sup>He was buried in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor, but no one knows his burial place to this day. </span><span id="en-NRSV-5847" class="text Deut-34-7"><sup class="versenum">7 </sup>Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died; his sight was unimpaired and his vigor had not abated. </span><span id="en-NRSV-5848" class="text Deut-34-8"><sup class="versenum">8 </sup>The Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the period of mourning for Moses was ended.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-5849" class="text Deut-34-9"><sup class="versenum">9 </sup>Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the Israelites obeyed him, doing as the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> had commanded Moses.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-5850" class="text Deut-34-10"><sup class="versenum">10 </sup>Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> knew face to face. </span><span id="en-NRSV-5851" class="text Deut-34-11"><sup class="versenum">11 </sup>He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, </span><span id="en-NRSV-5852" class="text Deut-34-12"><sup class="versenum">12 </sup>and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.</span></p>

<h3><span id="en-NRSV-4313" class="text Num-20-1">The Waters of Meribah</span></h3>
<p class="chapter-2"><span class="text Num-20-1"><span class="chapternum">20 </span>The Israelites, the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-4314" class="text Num-20-2"><sup class="versenum">2 </sup>Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron. </span><span id="en-NRSV-4315" class="text Num-20-3"><sup class="versenum">3 </sup>The people quarreled with Moses and said, “Would that we had died when our kindred died before the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>! </span><span id="en-NRSV-4316" class="text Num-20-4"><sup class="versenum">4 </sup>Why have you brought the assembly of the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> into this wilderness for us and our livestock to die here? </span><span id="en-NRSV-4317" class="text Num-20-5"><sup class="versenum">5 </sup>Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to bring us to this wretched place? It is no place for grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; and there is no water to drink.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-4318" class="text Num-20-6"><sup class="versenum">6 </sup>Then Moses and Aaron went away from the assembly to the entrance of the tent of meeting; they fell on their faces, and the glory of the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> appeared to them. </span><span id="en-NRSV-4319" class="text Num-20-7"><sup class="versenum">7 </sup>The <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> spoke to Moses, saying: </span><span id="en-NRSV-4320" class="text Num-20-8"><sup class="versenum">8 </sup>Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and your brother Aaron, and command the rock before their eyes to yield its water. Thus you shall bring water out of the rock for them; thus you shall provide drink for the congregation and their livestock.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-4321" class="text Num-20-9"><sup class="versenum">9 </sup>So Moses took the staff from before the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>, as he had commanded him. </span><span id="en-NRSV-4322" class="text Num-20-10"><sup class="versenum">10 </sup>Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Listen, you rebels, shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” </span><span id="en-NRSV-4323" class="text Num-20-11"><sup class="versenum">11 </sup>Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff; water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their livestock drank. </span><span id="en-NRSV-4324" class="text Num-20-12"><sup class="versenum">12 </sup>But the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me, to show my holiness before the eyes of the Israelites, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-4325" class="text Num-20-13"><sup class="versenum">13 </sup>These are the waters of Meribah,<sup class="footnote" style="font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;" data-fn="#fen-NRSV-4325a" data-link="[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NRSV-4325a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;/a&gt;]">[<a title="See footnote a" href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers+20%3A1-13&amp;version=NRSV&amp;interface=print#fen-NRSV-4325a">a</a>]</sup> where the people of Israel quarreled with the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>, and by which he showed his holiness.</span></p>

<p><span id="en-NRSV-2492" class="text Exod-33-18"><sup class="versenum">18 </sup>Moses said, “Show me your glory, I pray.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2493" class="text Exod-33-19"><sup class="versenum">19 </sup>And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim before you the name, ‘The <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>’;<sup class="footnote" style="font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;" data-fn="#fen-NRSV-2493a" data-link="[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NRSV-2493a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;/a&gt;]">[<a title="See footnote a" href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+33%3A18-23&amp;version=NRSV&amp;interface=print#fen-NRSV-2493a">a</a>]</sup> and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. </span><span id="en-NRSV-2494" class="text Exod-33-20"><sup class="versenum">20 </sup>But,” he said, “you cannot see my face; for no one shall see me and live.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2495" class="text Exod-33-21"><sup class="versenum">21 </sup>And the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span> continued, “See, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock; </span><span id="en-NRSV-2496" class="text Exod-33-22"><sup class="versenum">22 </sup>and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; </span><span id="en-NRSV-2497" class="text Exod-33-23"><sup class="versenum">23 </sup>then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”</span></p>

<h3><span id="en-NRSV-2440" class="text Exod-32-1">The Golden Calf</span></h3>
<p class="chapter-2"><span class="text Exod-32-1"><span class="chapternum">32 </span>When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered around Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2441" class="text Exod-32-2"><sup class="versenum">2 </sup>Aaron said to them, “Take off the gold rings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2442" class="text Exod-32-3"><sup class="versenum">3 </sup>So all the people took off the gold rings from their ears, and brought them to Aaron. </span><span id="en-NRSV-2443" class="text Exod-32-4"><sup class="versenum">4 </sup>He took the gold from them, formed it in a mold,<sup class="footnote" style="font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;" data-fn="#fen-NRSV-2443a" data-link="[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NRSV-2443a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;/a&gt;]">[<a title="See footnote a" href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+32%3A+1-6%2C+19-26&amp;version=NRSV&amp;interface=print#fen-NRSV-2443a">a</a>]</sup> and cast an image of a calf; and they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2444" class="text Exod-32-5"><sup class="versenum">5 </sup>When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a festival to the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>.” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2445" class="text Exod-32-6"><sup class="versenum">6 </sup>They rose early the next day, and offered burnt offerings and brought sacrifices of well-being; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to revel.</span></p>

<p class="first-line-none"><span id="en-NRSV-2458" class="text Exod-32-19"><sup class="versenum">19 </sup>As soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses’ anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets from his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. </span><span id="en-NRSV-2459" class="text Exod-32-20"><sup class="versenum">20 </sup>He took the calf that they had made, burned it with fire, ground it to powder, scattered it on the water, and made the Israelites drink it.</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-2460" class="text Exod-32-21"><sup class="versenum">21 </sup>Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?” </span><span id="en-NRSV-2461" class="text Exod-32-22"><sup class="versenum">22 </sup>And Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord burn hot; you know the people, that they are bent on evil. </span><span id="en-NRSV-2462" class="text Exod-32-23"><sup class="versenum">23 </sup>They said to me, ‘Make us gods, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ </span><span id="en-NRSV-2463" class="text Exod-32-24"><sup class="versenum">24 </sup>So I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, take it off’; so they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”</span></p>
<p><span id="en-NRSV-2464" class="text Exod-32-25"><sup class="versenum">25 </sup>When Moses saw that the people were running wild (for Aaron had let them run wild, to the derision of their enemies), </span><span id="en-NRSV-2465" class="text Exod-32-26"><sup class="versenum">26 </sup>then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Who is on the <span class="small-caps">Lord</span>’s side? Come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered around him.</span></p>
