C2E2: Marvel announces Thor and Loki crossover event

FANS of Marvel cinema know only too well that sometimes - let's be honest, all the time - the comics that are the basis for so many movies end up mimicking what's on screen.

This feedback loop is mostly due to the publisher/studio taking full advantage of their enormous media machine as they ramp up to their next feature film.

But those of you expecting to see Thor and Loki square off on the page as well as the silver screen are in for a pleasant surprise.

Panel after panel offered fans of the major publishers - and several of the small ones - a chance to hear it right from the architects themselves.

Not Marvel's first of the weekend but definitely one of their biggest, Cup O' Joe kicked off the convention circuit for the chief creative officer Joe Quesada, who informed the room this was his "first show of the season" before introducing the usual suspects.

And as promised, Marvel's chief creative officer Joe Quesada announced, during his regularly-featured Cup O' Joe panel, that the duo responsible for The Immortal Iron Fist would be at it again on the purple-clad marksman Hawkeye.

Comic Book Bites: Producer talks Amazing Spider-Man; The Great Unknown film adaptation announced

Not only is the hero being revamped in The Amazing Spider-Man, from director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield, but all three films in Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire's previous trilogy are being reissued on Blu-ray on June 12 with a bundle of bonus material including commentaries, featurettes, galleries and gag reels. Artwork for the three new discs is included below.

Bizarre though it may be to have two incarnations of the wall-crawler competing for your cash at the same time, Sony hopes that all things arachnid will be of interest during the lead-up to its franchise reboot.

Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach is confident that they can bring something fresh to the screen with Andrew Garfield's interpretation, a new villain in the form of Rhys Ifans' reptilian baddie the Lizard and a stronger backstory that connects Peter Parker's parents with the villainous goings-on.

Avengers vs X-Men is the most recent installment of Marvel's yearly comic book crossover extravaganza.

And just like last year's Fear Itself event, AvX kicks off with a prologue issue intended to make things accessible for both seasoned and new readers alike, but does it work?

So how did it all come together? Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gives us some insight: "We started looking at the list of characters in the Marvel Universe that hadn't been taken by other studios: Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow. And I thought: Isn't that interesting? All of these characters happen to form one of the most popular comic book series - The Avengers."

Producing all things Marvel since 2000, Feige has been on set for the X-Men, Fantastic 4, both Punisher films and each project since the publisher established its own studio.

But with The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers leading the fan frenzy - as reflected in a poll here on The Geek Files - will Marc Webb's reboot be able to swing its way through the competition?

But don't forget that before Christopher Nolan there was Graham Nolan, artist and co-creator of Batman's newest on-screen rogue, Bane.

Though most of the viewing audience will count their exposure to Tom Hardy's Bane in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises as their first, some may remember his initial introduction in 1993's Batman: Vengeance of Bane comic book, created by the collaboration of vaunted Bat-scribes Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench and the artist of no relation to the director, Graham Nolan.

Intended as the antithesis to Gotham's shadow-lurking crimefighter, Bane went on to infamy as the villain who broke the Bat. But what were the creators' intentions at the drawing board? And what does Graham Nolan think of the new version about to arrive on the big screen?

Besides his landmark 33-issue run on the inaugural Deadpool title, Kelly is also known in the comics world for his acclaimed work on Action Comics, X-Men and the Amazing Spider-Man to name a few.

Joe can now be found at Man of Action Studios - the team behind Cartoon Network's Ben 10 series - who will be adding the new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series to their resume.

While discussing that project with MTV, Kelly answered some questions about the belabored film adaptation of his wisecracking hitman.

Admitting his interest in 007 in a radio interview on the Magic 105.4 Breakfast Show, Hardy revealed: "I'd love to play [James] Bond with Chris Nolan [directing] or something, it would be awesome."

The British actor will be on screen as the villainous Bane in the new Batman film. He took a step closer to Bond's world of secret agents when he played a CIA operative in This Means War, released earlier this month. But how likely is a switch from CIA to MI6?

But a few clues have come from the film's costume designer, implying that Man of Steel will go far beyond showing superpowered action thrills and exploring Clark's earthly conflicts and challenges.

It seems the hero will be portrayed as part of a far richer lore.

Tara will also be on our screens in several other hotly-anticipated titles including Battleship, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel.

With the action-heavy focus of today's blockbusters, the A-list stars you see on screen are only part of the equation.

In disguise or concealed by CGI, stunt actors give the touch of reality to the spectacular sequences we buy our popcorn for - and Tara Macken will provide the best of both worlds when she acts and performs stunts as the District 4 tribute in The Hunger Games, out this Friday, March 23.

We had chance to sit down with Tara as she took a breather between her manic schedule of high-flying stunt work.

Read on to find out what she had to say about The Hunger Games - including the comparisons with Twilight - as well as her work on G.I. Joe: Retaliation and her dream of appearing in a Marvel superhero movie.

Based on the original graphic novel series by writer and artist Frank Miller, Sin City's second theatrical offering will mirror the first film's anthology-style storytelling with two new tales and a third torn from Miller's A Dame To Kill For story arc.

Reports often promising the start of production - "We've been telling everybody that we're going to shoot this year, so we actually have to shoot this year," said Rodriguez in a 2011 interview - were followed by silence and delays.

But at the Austin-based arts festival he again delivered hope to fans of the franchise.
