Coventry Jets

The Coventry Jets will begin their search for new players with weekly training sessions beginning on October the 24th.

2010 marked Coventry's most successful season for rookie recruitment since 2004 with a class that included Rookie of the Year Mark Wade.

As well as the young Rugby convert the Jets also uncovered defensive end Colm Jones and wide receiver Chris Shorey, with all three making an immediate contribution.

Coventry Jets play away to Sussex Thunder

By Adam Etheridge
Coventry Jets

The Jets travel to Horsham on Saturday looking to avoid finishing the season with a losing record.

After starting the year with four straight loses Head Coach Gerry McManus has worked a minor miracle to turn the team into a title contender as they went on to win four of their following five matches.

Victory at the Sussex Thunder would see Coventry finish the regular season at 5 & 5, narrowly avoiding their first losing season since debuting as the Jaguars in 2004.

Coventry Jets Senior's victory over rivals Leicester

By Adam Etheridge
Coventry Jets

The Coventry Jets adult flag team travelled to Leicester for just one game on Sunday as the London Rebels were unable to attend.

Whilst Coventry were happy to postpone the event until a later date, it went ahead at the request of the Eagles.

The hosts may well be regretting that decision now as Head Coach Andrew Gambrill and his squad gave possibly their best performance of the season to pull off a surprise 19-2 victory.

Ironically the Eagles only had five fit players whilst the Jets had their best travelling numbers all season, kitting 12 players.

The Coventry Jets have offered their backing to local community midwife Lisa Maycock and the Parentcraft scheme NAPPI. The Newborn Advice Pregnancy and Parenting Information Group, named by a young Coventry father, is based at St Augustine's Children's Centre, Heathcote Street, Radford and aims to offer support and guidance, throughout pregnancy and into the early days of becoming a parent, to teenagers.

The NAPPI is one of four groups in the city and has been running since February 2010 with a multi agency team and has received some funding from Coventry City Council.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets were taught a stern lesson today as they were shutout for the first time since 2004. A 28-0 defeat at the hands of the London Blitz also marked the first home loss for the Jets in a stretch of 22 games dating back to their debut season.

Tony Perkins was one of few bright spots as his return went part of the way to filling the void left by the unavailable Kofi Campbell.

King Henry VIII lose out to Burbage

By Derek Brown

King Henry VIII's hopes of retaining the Coventry schools league trophy were dashed in overtime as Burbage pulled off a 26-22 victory at Coventry Sports Centre.

Earlier in the campaign, Burbage only just qualified for the play-offs by taking eighth position in the table, with three wins and three defeats, while King Henry won all six matches to finish top.

Canadian imports Neil Balthazaar and David Sonne have both returned home leaving a big hole to fill, especially as Balthazaar also filled the role of Head Coach.

Andrew Gambrill (left) is charged with filling the Canadian quarterback's ample shoes. Having played and coached with Great Britain, Gambrill brings a wealth of experience and, with 13 National Titles under his belt, a winning mentality.

By Derek Brown

TWO teams, Coundon Court under-9s and Coventry Sphinx under-11s, went the whole season unbeaten as they completed their respective league and cup doubles.

They were class acts as they retained their championships in superb style while adding additional silverware to their hauls.
