The Coventry Cassidy Jets recently announced plans to develop both Junior and Youth kitted teams to compete in the British American Football League. Veteran Senior player and two time National Championship winner Dave Cowen has taken on the role as the Jets' Youth Development Manager.

Cowen's first job was to recruit a Head Coach and he wasted no time in appointing former Michigan Wolverines tight end Lou Barnes (right). Barnes has acted as an offensive assistant for the senior team over the past 2 years and recently accepted the role of Special Teams Co-ordinator.

He carried off the county title at Ingon Manor in April.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets adult flag team got their season off to flier with a 54-6 win on the road against the Kent Exiles.

After initially being grounded by a 4 hour delay to their travel plans the Jets had to postpone a match against their bitter rivals the Leicester Eagles before Steve Timmins led a dominant defensive performance with 3 interceptions, snaring the MVP award en-route as Coventry kept their 100% record against the hosts intact.

Following a season in which Paul Charnley's charges finished seventh place in the Aspire Midland Alliance, it was Woodward who netted most honours, winning the players' player of the season award, the supporters' and Coventry supporters' top player trophies, plus the manager's player of the Year award.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets were taught a stern lesson today as they were shutout for the first time since 2004. A 28-0 defeat at the hands of the London Blitz also marked the first home loss for the Jets in a stretch of 22 games dating back to their debut season.

Tony Perkins was one of few bright spots as his return went part of the way to filling the void left by the unavailable Kofi Campbell.

King Henry VIII's hopes of retaining the Coventry schools league trophy were dashed in overtime as Burbage pulled off a 26-22 victory at Coventry Sports Centre.

Earlier in the campaign, Burbage only just qualified for the play-offs by taking eighth position in the table, with three wins and three defeats, while King Henry won all six matches to finish top.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets Senior Flag Team have released their 2009 schedule and face a tough start to the campaign as they look to improve on last season's third place finish. Canadian imports Neil Balthazaar and David Sonne have both returned home leaving a big hole to fill, especially as Balthazaar also filled the role of Head Coach.

Andrew Gambrill (left) is charged with filling the Canadian quarterback's ample shoes. Having played and coached with Great Britain, Gambrill brings a wealth of experience and, with 13 National Titles under his belt, a winning mentality.

TWO teams, Coundon Court under-9s and Coventry Sphinx under-11s, went the whole season unbeaten as they completed their respective league and cup doubles.

They were class acts as they retained their championships in superb style while adding additional silverware to their hauls.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets' EFAF Cup campaign was shot down in flames as they crashed to a 49-6 defeat in the Czech Capital.

The Prague Panthers dominated from start to finish, scoring on every possession except one.

Lineman Adam O'Reilly took the MVP plaudits after playing every down on both offense and defense as the Jets only kitted the EFAF minimum 20 players.

KING Henry VIII are celebrating being crowned Coventry Schools under-12s champions after they inflicted a 24-0 defeat on Coundon Court in the final at Old Coventrians.

In a competitive clash, Coundon pressed for most of the opening half without being able to breach a disciplined opposing defence and all that divided the teams at the interval was an early try by Jake McLannaghan.

The reigning British Champion Coventry Cassidy Jets got their title defense off to a sputtering start as they edged the Bristol Aztecs 16-7 in a turgid affair punctuated by penalties and injuries.

Last season's defensive standout Dominic Olney took the player of the game plaudits for another stellar all-round performance highlighted by two lengthy interception returns.

REECE QUINN'S predatory strike midway through the first period was enough to give Coventry Copsewood a 1-0 victory over Coundon Athletic in an even and entertaining battle at Allard Way.

The striker pounced to give Copses three hard-earned points after hesitation between Niall Power and Jordan Shields allowed Quinn to round Power before slotting into an empty net.

Harriet Batten, Emma Kettley, Sophie Kirk, Philippa Rawbone and Joanna Read represented King Henry VIII school in Warwick Road, city centre, in the girls' section of the championships held near the Spanish capital of Madrid. Opposition came from as far as New Zealand and China.

School spokesperson Sarah Moulds said it was an excellent performance over steep and complicated terrain. Harriet and Sophie finished in the top ten as individuals.

The Coventry Cassidy Jets have teamed up with the Coventry Telegraph to give away a free family ticket to every reader for their home opener versus the Bristol Aztecs.

The Jets will be hoping to bounce back from a defeat in Europe but know their work will be cut out for them when they face their fiercest rivals at the Sphinx on Sunday May 10th.

The two teams last met in the 2008 playoff semi-final when rookie sensation Fraser Houston's late field goal proved the difference with the Jets edging an exciting match 31-28.
