Cupcake Liner Party Decor

Everyone's seen these cute little tutorials on cupcake liner party decor and I just had to try it!
The ones I've seen keep saying to put hot glue on the liner then press it into the styrofoam ball... that's all fine and dandy but I just cant do it without burning myself! Ugh! So, here's my how-to non finger burning style (for those of you who are clumsy like me). lol

Start with a styrofoam ball, pins, a hot glue gun and cupcake liners. I'm using liners from Micheals. I just love the polka dot liners!!

I put one pin in one liner (some people put a pin through 2 or 3 liners together for a fuller look). put a dab of hot glue on the head of the pin and set it aside to dry. Once it's cooled off simply smoosh (that's a highly technical term), roll or curls them up the way you like and press them into the ball.

I'm going to put these on the back of the treat buffet at a party coming up.

Cupcake Shot Glasses

Hey crafters! Check this out. It's a Shot Glass dessert that anyone can make with cupcakes!

Need:
Shot glass
Cream recipe (or pudding)
Buttercream (or canned icing)
Piping bag (or ziplock bag)
Cupcake

Make up all your recipes (or pull the lids off of the canned stuff).
Put them in piping bags (or ziplock bags).
Cut 2 sections off the *bottom* of the cupcakes. The bottoms are smaller and fit better in the glass.
Now just layer neatly, serve chilled.

This is a high impact, low effort dessert that anyone will enjoy. I'm going to try my next batch with Kahlua cream. I think that is going to be awesome!

Easy little tree

Hey there! We are putting little things around the house to get us into the holiday season.

Thinner strips = more tree like. I liked somewhere in between. You can use glitter or stamps to make it even more festive. These are also cute in patterned paper. Let the kids draw or stamp away! Wouldn't it be fun for them to decorate it and then put it in their room? :)

Just cut some strips of paper, you decide on your size. Curl them by rubbing them against the side of your table. Using stick pins, attach the paper to a styrofoam cone. Those cones come in all sizes so you could make a fun display out of these.

I made this .svg snowflake card for my Free SVGs blog. After making the file I just had to cut it and give it a try.

The paper and stamps are Stampin' Up.

If you have a Cricut and you aren't following my svg blog, please go have a visit! I use the program Sure Cuts A Lot and I can cut any font or .svg. If you have SCAL 2 you don't even need to make or get svgs. You can trace and cut almost any image right in that program! <3 it!

Christmas Countdown Advent Calendar

Finally, I've made a cookie sheet advent calendar! LOL I've seen these for years. I've always enjoyed the idea.

I needed something to stay in our black & white (with a little red) Christmas color theme so we used this paper from Basic Gray. I know these colors look unusual for Christmas. Sometime I'll post a picture of our tree and then you'll understand. ;)

Need:

Cookie Sheet - Mine is from the $1 tree. I liked the small size!

Wedding favor tins, you can get these at the craft store/big box store

Magnets

E600 glue

Paper, ribbon, embellishments and glue

This craft is so easy you don't even need directions. Basically scrapbook on the cookie sheet, glue the magnet on the favor tins and you're done!

I used my Cricut Expression to cut my numbers. I use SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) to cute any font with my Cricut. I used Stampin' Up ink, punches and ribbon.

In a third of the tins is candy. In the rest are activities or family games for use do together.

Ideas for activities:

Make and color your own coloring pages.

Make Christmas/Holiday cards.

Family Game (insert your family's favorite).

If you live in an area that isn't freaky cold, a family walk.

Indoor family picnic, blanket and all. Go all out!

Make a special dessert together

MadHatter Diaper Cake

We had a mad hatter baby shower for my bestest pal. I just had to try to make a diaper cake that had the topsy turvy style. This is what I came up with.

This mad hatter baby shower had painted roses, a white rabbit, candy and teacups. It was lovely!

This diaper cake took me longer than any other. I tried several ways to get them to topsy using diapers. I had to scrap that idea and go with cardboard tubes. I covered each one with the same thick black ribbon that's around the diaper rounds. You can't see the separator on the bottom from this angle but it's there.

Painted roses were done by Aurora (my little crafter). It's just acrylic red paint on cheap fake white roses. The cards are scrapbook embellishments. I used glue dots and sandwiched the wire in between two cards.

I always think it's fun to have stuff made out of diapers at baby showers. It's cheesy, sure, but it's fun. :D Happy crafting!

Baby Snuggle Sew Along!

Just in time for Christmas sewing! My niece, Aubrey, needed a nice warm snuggle for her car seat. I made one for my 9 year old daughter so I figured I'd give it a shot for the baby too!

What you need:

Fleece

Sewing machine & Thread

A way to measure the child or baby you are making for

Okay! What you do is measure the person you are making for, you will need to know how many inches around the arms will be too so measure that. Give yourself lots of extra room in the length and the sleeves, you don't want a tight snuggle.

Cut and hem your blanket portion based on the size person you are sewing for. You don't have to hem fleece. You can leave it as is, tie it, fringe it, ect.

Cut a rectangle, twice as long as he arm length and the width of the arm. You will have a long rectangle. Hem the short ends (this will be the end of the sleeves). Fold in half lengthwise, right sides together to make a long tube (pic A). Now, cut your tube in half. Tada! You have 2 sleeves!

Okay, attaching the arms! Here we go. Measure how far apart you want the sleeves and cut holes the same size around as your sleeves (pic B). I fold the blanket part in half and mark the second hole using the first as a template. That's easier for me. I hate measuring anything. lol

Now place one sleeve into one hole. You can pin it or stretch it to fit if you cut too large, don't stress it. Fleece is forgiving. Sew the sleeves on (pic C).

Guess what? You're done! Check out how cute my niece is!! :D

Fall Door Decor for $1

Hey crafters! We picked pinecones for fun a few weeks ago and still have this basket full just waiting for Fall projects. Here's a simple one that makes a cute door hanging. I think the first time I saw one like this was in BH&G. Here's on "on the cheap" version. :D

Hot glue ribbon (I got mine from the $1 bin at Micheals) to the top of pinecones (free). Make sure to leave the ribbons a little longer than you want it to hang on your door, to allow for a knot. You can always cut more off but you really can't add to it.

Wait for it to dry. Completely. This is the hard part. lol

Arrange how you like and knot them together. Hang on your door from a nail or a wreath hanger. It's a simple project that is fun to do. You can use the scented cones for hte craft store if you are hanging it indoors at decor.

If you like a more "girly" look hot glue bows to the top of each pinecone. You could add a bow over the knot as well. I like things a little more plain so I didn't do those things. I am thinking of adding a light dusting of glitter though. I do like sparkle! :)

Baby's initial - Stamped project

You know those painted baby names? We've all made those. They are cute, slightly cheesy and a standard gift for the new babies on our list.

We have a new member joining our family, my neice Aubrey! This baby comes to us via a more sophisticated style mom. The nursery is black & white damask and it is *stunning*! I did this initial. It stands up on it's own so it can be used on a dresser or it can be hung on the wall.

I'm thinking about putting the faux

hanging ribbon with a bow... I just haven't decided yet. Do you think ribbon with bow or no?

Outgrown pants? Let's make a purse! Sew Along

My daughter is finally growing like a weed. I say finally because she has been shorter than the other girls her age pretty much her whole life. I can't see on top of the fridge so she comes by her size naturally. LOL

She outgrew these pants. SO! Lets make a purse. This is a pretty easy sewing project. It didn't involve any measuring. The inches depend on the size of pants you are cutting up. These are size 7 lined pants from Old Navy.

You will need:

Sewing machine and thread

Sissors

pants, skirt or shorts your little one has out grown

Optional:

Ribbon and Humor

(1)Cut the pants off at the crotch area. If you want to save the pockets so that you have them as functional on the purse be sure to slide them up before cutting. Turn inside out, sew straight across. (2) Line the bottom seam you just made up to the side seam ans sew across it, pretty sure this is called a gusset. All I know is that it makes the purse have a flat bottom.

Turn it right side out (3). You can be done at this point by jsut putting a strap on, running ribbon through the belt loops and tying a pretty bow.

If you want a flap lets keep going.

Cut down one seam on one of the pant legs (4) and lay that fabric out. This will be the flap. Cut it to the size and shape you would like. If you want rounded flap, use a plate to draw the shape into the back of the fabric before you cut. We did a straight flap because it's basic and basic is what we do! :) Make your hems around the flap.

Aurora's pants have that elastic band in them to adjust. We decided to keep the elastic. If you are too make sure you up hook it for this next step. Lay the flap in where you would like (5). Mine ended up with the cargo pocket off center, this is where I tell you that pinning is a good thing. ;) lol Sew it on. If you're keeping the elastic go ahead now and tighten it up.

(6)Use the other pant leg to cut a strip for the purse strap. Sew it into a tube and turn it out. Then top stitch the sides down like any purse strap or camera strap. You can just leave it as a tube. You could even cut 3 strips and braid them or use ribbon.

Whatever you make as a strap, sew it on (7)

You could add a button or velcro to the flap if you feel that you need it as well. Decorate away!

You can do this with just about anything your kids outgrow. We made a blue jean one a while back.

So that's it. Here's my daughter, Aurora modeling her purse. She loves things being made into other things. She's pretty easy to please. :D

Etched Glass Halloween Plates

Glass doesn't photograph well but you get the idea.
We need plates for our Halloween party that our family holds every year. These are about $1.50 each and you can't beat that!

I did this tutorial in '09 and just had to pull it back out for this project. This time I used $1 glass plates from Wal-Mart.

Using Sure Cuts A Lot 2, I cut this (my free svg blog) out of cheap contact paper. I used Armour Etch to fill in the stencil and waited 3 minutes.

The instructions say 1 minute but I like to make sure it's really "dark" of an etch so I leave it on for a few extra minutes. The etch is hard to photograph with my phone and *sadly* I don't have a nice camera right now. Stupid river trip and the box that was NOT water tight!! (super sad face). I know what Santa is bringing me for Christmas though so I'm just trying to hold out. lol

I love Halloween and the colors. I'm playing with ways to use those colors for all kinds of little things right now.

Mama Monkey sent me a Thank You card a while back that looked like this and I loved it. It's such a cute design that I had to try it! She makes adorable cards.

$2 Candy Jars

Check out my candy chalice! The $1 Tree has a whole lot of little glass candleholders and things. These are perfect for the Mad Hatter Tea that we are doing.

You will need:

Glass taper holder

Glass candle/candy jar

E600

Something heavy

It's pretty simple. Take off all of the tags and wash the dishes. Once everything is clean and dry just start stacking. When you find a look that you like use a bead of E600 to glue it together. Put something heavy, like a good book, on it while it drys.

These are going to look great on the candy and cake table with all the other jars and dishes. I love doing tables that have a lot of different heights and interest. Happy crafting!

Woodland Fairy Birthday

Birthdays in our family are small, family & close friends events. Every year my daughter picks her theme and we make a party. This year the theme was Woodland Fairy.

In NLR there is a great place called The Old Mill. It was in Gone With the Wind, well it was a flash in the credits but it still counts! It's the perfect backdrop.

Let me tell you about the table.
The front is a branch with holes drilled to fit skewers. We dipped large marshmellows in chocolate and added sprinkes.

We have pink rice crispie balls and sandwiches on the sides of the cake. There is more food on the right of this picture but it's not as cute and the goodies! I made the cake.

All the girls got fairy wings and goodies. They danced around the garden, having a ball and keeping us all very entertained... Happy birthday to my amazing daughter!!

$4 jewelry organizer

While on the makeover for my daughter's room I found a bunch of little earrings and necklaces. So I made this little organizer out of another scrap of wood left from the desk we broke. Check out the post below for another cool re-vamp.

Step 1.

Predrill holes with a tiny bit for your cup hooks. Screw them in. You can paint them if you like (spray paint them to match) but her room is black, white and pink so it went with her theme.

Step 2.

Put in two nails and use some wire to make the earring hanging part. You can use scrapbook embellishment wire, like I did here, or you can use wire out of the tool box. I cut the tails off of a sparkly brads and glued the little brad heads to the nails. You could paint them, glue buttons to them and so on.

Step 3.

Make a hanging thing for the back. You can do this with wire and small screws, a picture hanger or you could screw it to the wall. I used two small screws with thick wire between them as a hanger on the back.

Decorate it if you like. I used a flower that matched the pink wall. Happy crafting!!

Desk Door Re-Vamp

Hey there! My daughter's room makeover is going along nicely. She requested a cork board for her room. We went looking and she saw one that was painted (damask) and she liked it but said it was too small for her. So we set out to make one.

This is a desk door from a desk that we broke while moving furniture 2 months ago. I saved the doors because they are wood, I liked the look and I hoped to come up with a project for them. I store a few random parts in my shed for just such an occasion.

We mounted it to the wall with butterfly anchors. I reccomend using anchors just to be on the safe side if you're mounting anything heavy in a child's room.

Using a hot glue gun I glued cork tiles (craft store, office supply store ect). If you have to cut the tiles I reccomend a box cutter.

My daughter really liked the painted small board at the store so we decided to paint hers. She asked for a Paris scene with an Eiffel Tower. I made this svg and cut shelf liner (you could use vinyl but shelf liner is cheaper for projects like this) with my Cricut.

I applied the cut shelf liner to the cork board then painted it in with acrylic black paint. When it was dry I peeled off the shelf liner. The corck absorbs the paint a little so don't expect perfect lines. It's part of the character. If you have the option to use spray paint that absorbs less.

I hope you like this project. There are going to be several Paris/damask style projects coming up. That's what my daughter has picked as her room makeover theme.

That silver tower on the desk needs to be painted. There's no picture in that frame yet. LOL! It's a project in the making. All pics taken with my cell phone camera (mine was recently destroyed on a river trip). So please forgive the bad pics. :)

This paper is the ongoing damask pattern used in little bits all though the room. The pencil holder on the desk, the art and other little things have this paper and ribbon (matches the wall color).

Using Mod Podge stick the paper down. Slide the ribbon between the paper and the plate cover. I'm nervous about the ribbon up against the electrical, so I did it that way. Use a craft knife to cut away the paper at all the edges. I did a coat of Mod Podge over the paper too. Then tie the ribbon and mount it to the wall.

Sadly, these are cell phone pics. Sorry about that. ;)

Cakes again?!

I made a Navy cake for a man who joined up.

This is my first time making a person like this. I did two babies on a baby shower cake but those were very small and covered in blankets...

Anyway, here's the Navy Cake. The banners are gum paste, the man is fondant.

I also made this cake for a little princess.

She wanted these dolls on her cake and as you know princesses get what princesses want! ;)

Happy Easter!! You know I'm holding the cake and food stuffs off until the last second because I'm busy doing other little nerdy things. Like this:

Yes. We are crazy. My daughter is so funny. We had a blast doing this and laughing so hard we barely stayed in our chairs.

Next we made these fantastic cheesecake filled strawberries from Martha. While we were making them we noticed that the bunny napkins kept getting closer and closer...

I wasn't really concerned until I came back and the napkin bunnies were surrounding the strawberry. Now I'm worried. I quickly snapped this picture before they could get me.

Okay, all kidding aside I hope you all have a fun and safe Easter. We will be playing with our family all day. I'll post the cake if I ever get around to decorating it. I guess I'd have to stop playing napkin bunny wars with my daughter first... lol
