It’s entirely understandable for you to wonder about the possible end of the Internet when you are earning your income from online activities. Rather thanexpending unnecessary effort on something that you do not yet have the ability or power to change at the moment, it is best if you focus on what you can do to protect your business from the future instead.

If there is anything that the history of the Internet can teach you, then that’s the way Internet marketing works will always evolve. In the past, online marketing primarily consisted of annoying pop-ups and huge banners that website owners with free hosting accounts could not remove from their homepages. Eventually, this led to the development and use of less prominent pay-per-click ads. Nowadays, your website is not the only medium in which you can generate income for your work or business.

Amazon

Considering the huge customer base that Amazon comes with, it would be such a waste if you were not to make your products available on this all-popular e-commerce website as well.

eBay

You can also make your products and services available on eBay. One of the best things about doing business on eBay is its ability to further expand your market. eBay offers one of the widest ranges of payment options today. Not only that, but it also provides you with a fantastic opportunity to build a reputation for your business with its feedback system. Even if you were given a bad rating or review, eBay also provides you with the chance to post a reply in order to defend your stance. Conversely, you can use this option to thank those who have given you positive reviews.

Forums

A lot of Internet forums today offer For Sale threads. If you are lucky enough to find a forum that caters specifically to your target market, then you definitely need to take advantage of the various marketing opportunities it offers. Even if it does not have its own For Sale thread, you can still make use of the forum to connect with your target market and introduce them to your products and services.

Carefully fill out information on your profile page.

Use your company’s logo as your avatar.

Provide a link to your blog and website as well as all other contact information you may have.

Include your company’s tagline in your signature.

As you can see, there are all sorts of online media you need to focus on in order for your company to maintain a strong presence on the Internet. If you were to focus on one platform or one campaign at a time, you may not have enough time in the world to accomplish all your marketing goals. If you want to be more effective and efficient in the use of your time and resources, you will need to multitask and for that you need the best Internet service plan you can afford.

In order to get a better idea of what packages Internet service providers actually offer, see what comes up using this tool.

An effective control system for managing inventory is essential for the success of a business house. A combination of expert employees and sophisticated technology will go a long way towards realizing that goal or objective. Physical counting of inventory is now an obsolete procedure and businesses cannot think about reducing their operating costs with it anymore. Today, the straight forward formula towards profit maximization and cost reduction lies with organized inventory data and effective inventory monitoring systems.

If you take the example of liquor industry, you will notice that liquor inventory monitoring systems have been largely responsible towards a reduced inventory loss and a reduced labor cost at the same time. Today, liquor monitoring systems form an essential part of most liquor warehouse management processes. The success behind the implementation of this system depends on various factors. However, a proper understanding and knowledge of the inventory software holds the key towards real business growth and success.

The functional capabilities of the inventory software depend largely on the effective communication between the IT, manufacturing, and warehousing departments. In other words, all three departments must work together smoothly to make inventory control a successful affair. The capacity of your inventory management software must also be evaluated on the basis of the software’s reporting and incoming data handling ability. There should not be any error in reporting and incoming inventory data management whatsoever. High-quality inventory software must invariably implement loss prevention methods. An effective control system must always take this into account even if the loss occurs from one of the trained employees of the organization. The inventory management must have a back-up plan to counter all technical and human errors.

Proper training and practice for handling the inventory software will obviously minimize the error count to a great extent. This is the main reason why large organizations these days do not hesitate to spend a good amount of time and money on employee training and skill development. Besides imparting basic knowledge or foundation for managing the software, the training process invariably provides valuable inputs on inventory adjustments, disbursements, handling, and receiving all at the same time. Therefore, it is up to the organization employees to take up the training modules in a spirited manner in order to accomplish the objectives set by the organization.

The popularity of liquor monitoring systems is also catching up with the other industries located all across the globe. Inventory monitoring systems are now widely used in the manufacturing and product development sector. The presence of numerous inventory monitoring system manufacturers has made selection a daunting task in front of the business owners. Therefore, the organizations planning to implement the monitoring systems in the near future should remain careful at the time of ordering for the software. Orders should be placed only after verifying the experience and authenticity of the companies dealing with monitoring systems. It is also important for an organization to compare the features along with the prices at the time of placing an order.

Author’s bio- Rickey has done a lot of research on critical issues affecting businesses. In this article he tells us how inventory monitoring systems can better productivity.

Without focusing on keywords, you’re making it difficult on yourself, and you can easily waste time and money. To understand why this is the case, let’s go into some detail about keywords and how they can make or break your SEO campaign.

Search Volume

First of all, the keywords you choose for your content will heavily influence the amount of organic traffic you receive from search engines. For example, even if you rank highly for a particular keyword, it won’t do you much good if there are little to no search queries for it. On the same token, even if you choose a keyword with lots of search queries, it won’t do you much good if it’s completely saturated with competition. This is why it’s so important to spend some time doing keyword research. Without it, it’s a guess at best if your content will actually bring in any traffic.

Keyword Research

To perform keyword research, it’s smart to utilize a resource such as Google’s Keyword Tool. This is primarily because it’s free and focuses on search queries from the world’s most widely used search engine. By entering in a broad keyword phrase, this tool will display related keyword phrases. It will also tell you how many local and global monthly searches each phrase receives as well what the level of competition is. From there, you can select the ideal keyword phrase that fits what your content is about.

Keyword Density

Along with doing keyword research, there are other elements of using keywords that will affect your SEO. One is using the correct keyword density. This term refers to using a targeted keyword a certain amount of times within the body of your content. Generally speaking, it’s ideal to have a keyword density that ranges between 2 to 7 percent. Any less and it makes it hard for search engines to index your content. Any more and your website may be penalized for keyword stuffing. Making sure to not use keywords in excess has become even more important with Google’s Penguin Update in April, 2012. Basically, this update was designed to lower the ranking of websites that practice black hat SEO techniques like keyword stuffing and low quality backlinks.

Integrate Keywords

Besides this, it’s smart to integrate keywords into places like your website’s domain name, page titles, headings and tags. For example, if your website is about cats, you might want your domain name to be something like “catcare.com” instead of something vaguer like “householdpets.com.” In terms of page titles, you will usually want to perform keyword research for each individual title so you can increase your ranking. For example, you might use the keyword “healthy cat diet” as an article title. From there, you would want to place similar keywords into an article’s headings and a variety of relevant keywords into your tags. Doing so should make it easier for your website to appear in relevant search results and should bring in organic traffic.

Online shopping is a wonderful way to get your stuff nowadays. You can get absolutely anything on the Internet and most of these sites offer great bargains and no shipping costs. This means no commuting is necessary, no worrying about parking, no queues, no more wasting time or energy to buy anything. You can do it online at one click of the mouse right from your bedroom.
As with all good things, there is a bad side to this remarkable trend, i.e. the possibility to get scammed. To ensure that you have only good experiences with online shopping, you need to recognize and avoid scammers. Don’t get scammed online: here’s what to do when e-shopping to stay safe:
1. Anything That Looks Too Good To Be True Should Make You Extra Cautious – if something looks too good for the price, be careful. You may be walking into a scam. Check and double check the site. Try to speak to the someone at the company and re-confirm that the product is what you understand it is. Read the fine print and disclaimers closely. Do not pay until you are 100 per cent sure that the deal is real.
2. Phishing Is Mostly Done Through Online Shopping Sale Sites – scammers know that the regular person cannot resist a great bargain. In turn, great bargains are expected at sales. Hence, the easiest way to lure people to make a purchase is through phenomenally picturized websites that announce super sales. Before making payment, be careful. Check for the Verisign mark, which his like a small closed lock at the beginning of the URL of the page where it asks you to put in your credit card details. If the lock is not there; if the URL does not start with https:// (the “s” is important for it means “secure”) do not make the payment for the sire is false.
3. In The Name Of ‘Registration’ It Is Asking You Personal Information – it is okay if for registration with an e-shopping site you need to provide you address, you name, your email id and your cell phone number. It is not okay if they ask you – for registration – your birth date, you bank account details, your pin (the number you feed in for accessing cash at the ATM), your security number and so on. If the site is asking illogical questions – check it out more closely. If you feel any red flag comes up, leave it.
4. Beware Of Phantom Sites – phantom site are those that have one name and description, but open on a completely and often unrelated site. These sites would be put up only temporarily to just cheat a few naïve people and then disappear. If the URL you click upon and the one of the page that opened is different, close it and if you can report it as possible fraud/ scam.
5. Read More Than One Review Of The Product – sometimes, the e-shopping site would have on display a number of positive reviews. To get a most accurate picture of the products, you need to check more than 3-4 reviews; and when you do so, ensure you are reading reviews on sites unrelated to the product.

Jenna G. is a writer for Ukritic.com. If you like buying things online, you are probably aware of the scams that are rampant. If you want to earn money, AND help others who are buying things online, post a review on ukritic. Take a look at the site now!

It is true that you can never have a successful Internet marketing campaign if you don’t have at least a working grasp of how it works, the necessary skills to perform common to complex Internet marketing tasks, and of course a nearly inexhaustible supply of patience, perseverance, and creativity. Having the right products or services also matters. But what many people forget is that Internet marketing also relies on having essential tools in your disposal.

Here’s a list of what you should definitely have in your Internet marketing toolkit.

Email accounts – It’s one of the easiest and most secure ways to communicate online so be sure you have one. As much as possible, opt for a paid email account to enjoy larger web storage space and other advanced email settings and features. Having a paid email address also adds to your professional image, and that never hurts.

Auto-responder – It’s always good business to show your customers that you care, and having an auto-responder is definitely one way to do that. Auto-responders provide people with the reassurance that you have received their emails. They can also communicate with your customers and other parties about your usual respond time so that they need not wonder how long they’ll have to wait to hear from you.

List server – This is another email-based tool but this time it acts as your virtual email manager, automatically categorizing your incoming mail as well as taking over schedule and management of your outbound emails, such as the ones that serve as your weekly or monthly newsletter or promotional emails that introduce your newest products and services.

Blogs – Even if you are not fond of writing, it is still essential that you have your own blog. And yes, it’s still important even if you already have a website. A regularly and well-maintained blog can only add to your credibility. It may also add to your popularity since the somewhat informal atmosphere in blogs allows you and your target market to interact with each other with greater ease.

PDF converters – First of all, PDFs provide your data better protection against being copied or plagiarized compared to word documents. Secondly, they tend to read better on most mobile devices and e-book readers, which is essential if you have a free guide or e-book to give away.

Websites – If necessary, even a free or temporary and static web page would do. What matters is that you are showing your target market that you mean to stay and you have nothing to hide. Most Internet users tend to shy away from businesses or professionals without their websites because for them this presents either unprofessionalism or an unwillingness to divulge certain types of information to the public.

Broadband Expert Internet service – Lastly, it is always a good idea to have the fastest and most reliable Internet connection for your work. Slow Internet is only an unnecessary delay and would likely prevent you from effectively communicating with other people online as well.

If all these tools are present in your Internet marketing tool kit, then you are definitely ready to “construct” the ideal campaign for your business!

Author Bio:

When there’s a need for skillful business or freelance writing online, effective web design and development, or self-help, people usually turn to expert Krystine Joy Sitjar as their first choice.

As you can see, VMware tools gives you significant enhancements to the speed, efficiency, and usability of your guest machines. Even though it isn’t absolutely necessary to install VMware tools, it is recommended that you install them in all VMware virtual machines. Without VMware tools, your guest machine performance will lack important functionality that greatly improves the vSphere user experience and guest OS performance.

This is the second part of a two part series on implementing SEO friendly URLs in an Apache/PHP/MySQL environment. This part discusses the details of implementation including creating the database, writing the PHP code and modifying the Apache server to manage the urls.

This is the second part of a two part series on implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) friendly URLs in an Apache/PHP/MySQL environment. In the first part of this article we discussed why we would implement SEO friendly URLs and in this part we discuss how we would implement SEO friendly URLs. This article provides the technical details necessary to implement SEO friendly URLs in an Apache web server, PHP programming language, and MySQL database environment and gives the details on how each of these parts link together to provide the appropriate information when the SEO URL is requested by the user.

In this part, we create a hypothetical MySQL database that stores news articles. This database stores the title, article, and publish-date of the article which is used to provide that information to be displayed on the web page. This is a simple example of getting this data out of the database using SEO URLs and does not include any style or pretty formatting. Instead, this article will focus on the mechanics of displaying an article when requested using an SEO URL. The article’s URL will be preceded by the path /article/ and will contain the article title appended to this path.

Articles Database

The first thing we will do is create our database. As stated before, there will be a column for the title, article, publish date, as well as an auto-increment column for an id that is unique for each article. Here is the code to build our database which can be added to your database by executing the SQL from within phpMyAdmin or a similar tool:

CREATE TABLE `news` (

`id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,

`title` varchar(100) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL,

`article` text COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL,

PRIMARY KEY (`id`)

) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci;

Now that the database is created, we can add some articles using SQL statements in phpMyAdmin. In reality, you will want to create some sort of administration page to add, remove, and change the articles:

INSERT INTO `news` (`title`,`article`,`publish_date`) VALUES

('This is an article','I wrote a wonderful article', NOW()),

('This is a Great SEO Article','This article shows how to do SEO in your article', NOW()-INTERVAL 1 DAY);

Since the id column is an AUTO_INCREMENT, the articles will automatically be given a unique id in the id column when the articles are inserted. This id will be the key to displaying the correct article the user has clicked on.

Showing the Articles

Here is the code that will display either the list of articles or a single article based on whether the PHP variable $article_id is set and is not set to false. We are not going to focus much on this code, since it is all based on the site that this will be integrated into, so here it is:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<head></head>

<body>

<?php

  $link = mysql_connect(HOST_NAME, USER_NAME, PASSWORD) or die();

  mysql_select_db(DB_NAME) or die()

  if(isset($article_id) && $article_id != false){

    $sql = "SELECT id,title,article FROM news WHERE id=".$article_id;

    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die();

    if($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){

      echo($row['article']);

    }

  } else {

    $sql = "SELECT id,title FROM news ORDER BY publish_date DESC";

    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die();

    while($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){

      print_seo_link($row['id'],$row['title']);

    }

  }

?php>

</body>

</html>

This simply checks to see if there is an article id. If there is an article id, it prints out the contents of the article. If there is no article id set or the article id is not an integer, then it prints the list of articles. Most of the code is self-explanatory except for the function print_seo_link, which we will explain below.

For the purpose of this article, the code above will be put into a file called view_article.php.

Printing the article links

The function print_seo_link takes two parameters, the unique id of the article and the article total. From this information, it prints out the SEO link to the specific article. The code for the function is:

function print_seo_link($id,$title){

  $seo_patterns = array('/[^a-zA-Z0-9 -]/', '/[ -]+/', '/^-|-$/','/quot/');

  $seo_replace = array('', '-', '', '');

  $seo_name = "/articles/".preg_replace($seo_patterns,$seo_replace,$title)."-".$id;

  print(“<p><a href=’$seo_name’>$title</a></p>”);

}

This function sets up an array of preg_replace patterns and an array of items to replace the patterns. The first array item finds anything that is not letters, numbers a space or dash characters and replaces it with nothing. The second item finds any number of spaces or dashes and replaces them with dashes, the third looks for dashes at the beginning or end of the string and replaces them with nothing, and the last item finds the string quot and replaces it with nothing.

Next we perform the preg_replace on the title of the article. This will take the title ‘This is a article’ and return ‘This-is-a-article’. In that same line of code, we also prepend ‘/article/’ to the title and append a ‘-‘ and the id of the article at the end, so the title will look like ‘/article/This-is-an-article-1’ and then simply print that as the href in the a tag.

Getting an article id

Now that we have printed a list of all the articles, we need a way to read the link and determine what the article id is. this function takes a string and return an id if there is one, and false if there is not one:

function get_seo_id($seo_title){

  $id=false;

  $parts = explode("-",$seo_title);

  if(count($parts) > 1){

    $seo_id=$parts[count($parts)-1];

    if((string)$seo_id == (string)(int)$seo_id){

      $id=$seo_id;

    }

  }

  return $id;

}

This function sets up a variable to be false in the event of not finding an id. It then takes the name and splits it apart on the ‘-‘ character. If there is more than one part, or a ‘-‘ was found, then it gets the last part (which should be the id). If that id is a number, then it returns the number, otherwise the default value of false is returned.

Note that this function does not even look at what the title of the article is. It simply looks for the number at the end and returns it if there is one. If there are extraneous non numeric characters after the number, it returns false. If there is no number at the end it returns false.

Apache .htaccess Changes

Now, an astute programmer will notice that we have created links that do not equate to the file name view_article.php that we put the code into at the beginning. What we are going to do is use the power of the Apache web server to rewrite requests and send them to this file without the user even knowing. We want to take the request for /article/This-is-an-article-1 into a request to the file /view_article.php?name=This-is-an-article-1.

The magic to make this happen is to add a line to the .htacess file in the root of the web server that rewrites the first to the second. This is actually accomplished by 3 lines, however if you are already using mod-rewrite to rewrite requests, the first two will already be included in the file. The lines are:

RewriteEngine on

RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^article/(.*)$ display_articles.php?name=$1 [L]

The first two lines setup the file to use the mod-rewrite engine within the Apache server. The first line ‘RewriteEngine on’ turns the engine on, and the second line ‘RewriteBase /’ sets the base directory of rewrites to be the root directory.

The third line does all of the rewriting of the URL. If a URL is requested that starts with ‘article/’ after the domain, take everything after it and set it equal to the name parameter to the file ‘view_article.php’ file. In this way, everything after the ‘article/’ will be available as a $_GET parameter in the view_article.php file. Once this is added to your .htaccess file in the root of the web server, requests will be rewritten and sent to the file.

So putting all the code into the view_article.php file we get:

<?php

function get_seo_id($seo_title){

  $id=false;

  $parts = explode("-",$seo_title);

  if(count($parts) > 1){

    $seo_id=$parts[count($parts)-1];

    if((string)$seo_id == (string)(int)$seo_id){

      $id=$seo_id;

    }

  }

  return $id;

}

function print_seo_link($id,$title){

  $seo_patterns = array('/[^a-zA-Z0-9 -]/', '/[ -]+/', '/^-|-$/','/quot/');

  $seo_replace = array('', '-', '', '');

  $seo_name = "/articles/".preg_replace($seo_patterns,$seo_replace,$title)."-".$id;

  print(“<p><a href=’$seo_name’>$title</a></p>”);

}

$article_id=get_seo_id(@$_GET[‘name’]);

?>

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<head></head>

<body>

<?php

  $link = mysql_connect(HOST_NAME, USER_NAME, PASSWORD) or die();

  mysql_select_db(DB_NAME) or die()

  if(isset($article_id) && $article_id != false) {

    $sql = "SELECT id,title,article FROM news WHERE id=".$article_id;

    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die();

    if($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){

      echo($row['article']);

    }

  } else {

    $sql = "SELECT id, title FROM news ORDER BY publish_date DESC";

    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die();

    while($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){

      print_seo_link($row['id'],$row['title']);

    }

  }

?php>

</body>

</html>

And there you have it, a simple and effective way to turn any kind of title or headline into an effective and efficient SEO Friendly URL.

Just about all the information you can read on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with regard to urls being SEO friendly includes discussions on using them, however if you are not using a Content Management System (CMS) to implement them, you may be doing yourself more harm than good. This two-part article discusses how to implement SEO urls in your website if you are building your site from the ground up. Part 1 discusses the rational behind the article and Part -2 walks through an example of a webpage that lists news articles and shows individual articles within the site utilizing SEO friendly URLS. It also discusses the .htaccess file changes that would need to be made to ensure there is only one version of the url availble to web browsers and automatic robots.

The genisis of this article is that one of our clients had a well established website where they were generating dynamic pages in PHP which also generated a sitemap and submitted it to their Google Webmaster account upon change. The sitemap contained well over 1000 URLs and was correctly read in Google Webmasters as having the correct number of submitted URLs, however Google Webmasters showed only 200 files in the Index for that sitemap. This of course conflicted with any site search on Google Search which showed results of over 1000! So Google Search knew about over 1000 pages, but was not attributing them to being the links in the sitemap, a definate head scratcher!

In examining their implementation it was determined that the client had taken a short cut in implenting their list of news articles. Instead of printing out links to individual articles in the SEO friendly manner, their URLs were pointing to a non-SEO friendly page. The links on their page pointed to:

http://www.example.com/news.php?article_id=2

instead of:

http://www.example.com/news/this-is-a-fantastic-article/

However, the sitemap contained the second version.

The problem with this is that Google has robots that crawl the site to find content in addtion to any sitemaps that are provided. By using the first version on their site, Google searched the site and found the non-SEO friendly version. They created duplicate content in the search engine’s eyes by having two urls that pointed to the exact same content and through the mystery that is Google’s back end processing, selected the unintended version. What they really needed to do is be consistent and use the second version everywhere they have a link to that article, which is sometimes can be easier said than done. You must ensure that your content always uses the SEO friendly URL (RSS feeds, backlinks, internal links, etc.) that way you will not get penalized for duplicate content.

In this instance we changed the URLs sitewide and made them all use the SEO friendly version and the client was able to increase their Indexed URL count from the sitemap to a number much closer to the number of URLs submitted in the Google Webmaster Tools.

In Part 2 of this article, we will implement a database driven news feed that generates and utilizes SEO friendly URLs for a website.

Have you ever gotten to a web page on a website where the document did not exist where the error page matched the look and feel of the site? Ever wonder how to accomplish that on your site? If you are using an Apache Web Server with the ability to modify the .htaccess file, changing the error pages to match your site is simple!

If you want to customize the error pages that are displayed for your site and you wrote the site from the ground up (NOT utilizing a Content Managment System such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc) creating the templates to display and some simple additions to your .htaccess file are all that are needed.

First, you will need to create a directory inside of your website for the templates to be stored such as ‘/errors’ which can be accessed at your website: http://www.example.com/errors. Although this directory is not absolutely necessary, it will keep things cleaner in your site.

The major errors that you will want to handle are:

400 – Bad Request

401 – Authorization Required

403 – Forbidden

404 – Not Found

500 – Server Error

Create a webpage for each of these types inside your ‘errors’ directory and give them any name you prefer, hopefuly something meaningful such as:

bad_request.html

auth_required.html

forbidden.html

not_found.hmtl

server_error.html

In each of the cases, you can create server side scripts that will be executed when the error is triggered as well. If your normal webpages are setup to use server side scripts such as PHP then you can use PHP in your error handlers as well to email or log to a database when pages that don’t exist are requested for example. They are simply web pages that will be displayed when the errors are triggered.

Once you have your files setup, the .htaccess magic happens. You will add a line to your .htacces file for each of the pages to tell the Apache Web Server where to get the web pages to serve up when these errors are triggered. The format for the .htaccess is:

ErrorDocument code response

For each of the errors we listed above with each of the pages created in the errors directory our additional lines in the .htaccess file will be:

ErrorDocument 400 /errors/bad_request.html
ErrorDocument 401 /errors/auth_required.hml
ErrorDocument 403 /errors/forbidden.html
ErrorDocument 404 /errors/not_found.html
ErrorDocument 500 /errors/server_error.html

That’s all there is to it! Simply create the html code to be displayed and point the Apache Web Server to the documents using the ErrorDocument directive in the .htaccess file.

For this example we have created handlers for the most common types of Apache Web Server responses that you would want to define. You do not need to generate any of these or you could add adddional handlers as your website demands. Read the full documentation on the Apache ErrorDirective.
