Why Women Feel Colder at Work: The Science & Latest Stats Behind Office Temperature Disparities

Understanding Gender-Based Temperature Differences

Ever notice that women often feel colder in the office than men? It’s not just personal preference—it's backed by science. Studies continue to show that women are biologically more sensitive to cold temperatures, and standard office settings don’t take this into account.

Dr. Tara Narula, a CBS News medical contributor, points out:

“Women like it around 77 degrees, men usually prefer 72 degrees. That’s a big gap.”

This gap is largely due to physiological differences. Women tend to have lower muscle mass, higher body fat, and smaller body size, all of which lead to lower resting metabolic rates. A slower metabolism generates less body heat, making women feel colder in identical environments.

Office Temperatures and Productivity: What the Data Shows

The impact of temperature isn’t limited to comfort. Research shows a direct link between workplace temperature and productivity. In a 2019 study published in Nature Human Behaviour, female performance increased by 1.8% for every 1°F increase in temperature, while male performance slightly decreased by only 0.6%.

This suggests that overly cold office environments may be holding back nearly half of your workforce.

Women Are Nearly Half the Workforce—and Growing

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2024):

Women make up 47% of the U.S. labor force

The labor force participation rate for women is around 57.6%

Women now hold 29% of C-suite roles, a rise from 17% in 2015

Despite these gains, most office temperature standards are still based on 1960s models developed for the “average” 40-year-old, 154-pound man—ignoring the reality of today’s diverse workforce.

Why Office Clothing Matters

Gender norms in professional attire contribute to the temperature gap as well. Men typically wear more layers—slacks, long-sleeved shirts, jackets—while women’s office clothing often includes thinner materials and less coverage. This leaves women more exposed to cold indoor air.

A Practical, Affordable Solution: Cozy Products Personal Heaters

Fortunately, there’s a simple and energy-efficient way to resolve the issue. Cozy Products, based in Chicago, designs and manufactures low-wattage personal heaters that allow employees to control their individual temperature without affecting the entire office climate.

Benefits of Cozy Products personal heaters:

Low energy consumption (using as little as 90 watts)

Safe for office use with built-in safety features

Localized warmth without adjusting building-wide thermostats

Improved comfort and productivity, especially for cold-sensitive individuals

Whether it’s under-desk heaters, heated footrests, or panel-style warmers, Cozy offers products tailored for workplace comfort.

Embracing Equitable Office Comfort

The science is clear: women are more sensitive to cold, and traditional office temperatures do not serve today’s workforce. Cold employees are less productive, less comfortable, and more likely to experience fatigue.

By implementing personal heating solutions from Cozy Products, companies can:

Support employee well-being

Boost productivity

Maintain energy efficiency

Create a more inclusive and comfortable workplace

Ready to warm up your team? Cozy Products offers safe, affordable, and eco-friendly heating options for offices of all sizes.

As the new year approaches, businesses have more reason than ever to consider taking environmental initiatives. Cozy Products, manufacturer of green personal heaters, discusses a recent blog addressing this.

According to the Cozy blog released on December 30th 2015, the reasons businesses should consider taking environmental action can be categorized as 3 different types: must-have, ROI-driven, and human values-related initiatives.

Must-have initiatives relate to the ability to comply with the strict, yet necessary environmental regulations. Due to this obstacle that may have a greater effect on smaller businesses, it is thought to support other companies and their aggregation processes.

ROI initiatives are probably the most understood. “[They] tend to relate to the overall decline in energy consumption. In turn, the decrease in energy use further lessens the emission of greenhouse gases,” the Cozy blog explains.

The last of the three, revolves around the ability for a company to impact society. By intertwining a social issue into the business, an importance is placed on specific values that affect how you’re portrayed.

As the number of businesses that take advantage of green initiatives grow, the stronger the effect of fighting off climate change becomes. Taking action against the over-emission of greenhouse gas and fossil fuel use will have significant long-term benefits for the future.

Cozy Products, as a manufacturer of low wattage personal heaters, understands the importance of going green. Unlike standard space heaters, most Cozy Products only require as much energy as a standard light bulb to run—conserving both energy and money.

Global CO2 Emission Slows After Years of Continuous Growth

As companies increase dependence on more eco-friendly resources, the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere has finally seen a drop. Cozy Products reports its findings.

According to Slate’s December 8 report, a new study predicts that 2015 will have continued 2014’s drop in annual global CO2 Emission. Cozy Products, manufacturer of green personal heaters, provides insight regarding the situation.

The slate article states, “Globally, over the past 15 years, we’ve been dumping roughly an extra billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year, jumping from 25 billion tons per year to more than 37.” Despite these large numbers, the rate of the projected drop is thought to change by .6% this year.

2015’s decrease in emission from 35.9 billion to 35.7 billion tons seems to be surprisingly small. “That’s not a huge drop, but the point is that it dropped at all… and given why it happened it’s possible it’s a trend that may continue,” mentions the article. The bigger picture must be recognized to see the numbers and their true potential.

Slate explains that the recent carbon dioxide drop is largely thanks to global economies and their switch to renewable resources such as solar and wind power, along with the decrease in coal usage. China has become a lead player with their ample reliance on eco-friendly resources; alone, they have dropped CO2 emission by 4 percent.

Cozy Products, manufacturers of eco-friendly heaters, explains the importance of going green on their website. Cozy Products points out that between 1990 and 2011 worldwide net emissions of greenhouse gases have increased 35%. The United States, Asia, and Europe alone made up 82% of that overall total. The page explains that by utilizing green products, energy can not only be saved, but its benefits can affect the world on a much larger scale.

The Green page also explains that while saving the environment from unnecessary waste by using eco-friendly products, money is simultaneously saved in often large amounts, and in the case of companies that use green products, company image is greatly improved. As the public continues to place importance on the environment, these added benefits are only gaining in importance.

For decades, Cozy Products has offered personal heaters that are economical, green, safe, yet effective. Unlike standard space heaters, most Cozy Products only require as much energy as a standard light bulb to run—helping to conserve energy and save money.

This Year’s “Witch of November” Reminds People to Think of Winter Energy Costs

An article released today summarizes extreme weather that hit the Midwest this week, nicknamed “The Witch of November.” Cozy Products reminds people to plan ahead for heating-related energy costs as the cold season begins.

The Midwest has been feeling the icy touch of the so-called “Witch of November” storm since Wednesday, including floods around the Great Lakes, tornadoes in Iowa, and blizzards in Minneapolis (businessinsider.com). Cozy Products, low-watt heating experts, comments on the story and explains why this storm is the first sign of the season's rapidly approaching winter energy cost hikes.

According to Business Insider, so far the storm has produced extremely high winds throughout the Midwest, with eastern parts experiencing rain and snow. Meteorologists have named this storm “The Witch of November” or the “November Witch” and it’s affecting areas all across the northern parts of the United States.

Cozy Products notes that although it is still the autumn season, dreadful winter weather seems to have arrived early. November’s plummeting temperatures should not be the only concern as energy bills start to climb as winter quickly approaches.

John Pless, a spokesman from the Electric Power Board, remarks, “The No. 1 factor that influences a homeowner’s bill is the weather... when it’s really cold… it’s just going to take more energy to maintain the comfort that you’re used to,”(Nooga). The colder the temperature is outside, the more a heating system must work in order to reach a desired temperature.

Although thermostat temperatures may remain unchanged, the drop in climate outside still affects the amount of energy a household uses. The colder it becomes, a greater amount of energy is necessary for a heater to meet the home’s chosen warmth. However, there are measures that can be taken to fight the growing cost.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, money can be saved by resetting a thermostat when you are away from home or asleep in bed. “By turning your thermostat back 10° to 15° for 8 hours, you can save 5% to 15% a year on your heating bill—a savings of as much as 1% for each degree if the setback period is 8 hours long.” The lower the interior temperature is, the slower the loss of heat will be—ultimately saving more energy.

To supplement a lower thermostat, the use of low-watt, energy-efficient personal heaters to warm small areas are intelligent solutions (Cozy Heating Cost Calculator). Adding energy-efficient heating products saves many users hundreds of dollars over the course of just one winter season compared to standard space heaters. By keeping heat concentrated and focused only on the user instead of blowing the heat around the room where it can quickly dissipate, users are kept warmer and more comfortable for far less money in utility bills.

There are a number of ways to save energy during the freezing holiday season. By taking the advice of the U.S. Department of Energy and lowering the thermostat during certain times of the day and night, people become one step closer in controlling the growing costs of their expensive energy bills. The ‘November Witch’ can be taken as 2015’s first real sign of the harsh winter weather to come.

Cozy Products is a Chicago-based company that offers safe, economical, green, and effective personal heaters that utilize low wattage to conserve energy. When compared to standard space heaters, Cozy Products only require as much energy as a standard light bulb. Cozy Products works to provide gentle warmth where it is needed—to keep your entire body comfortable and cozy.

Cozy Products, heating control experts, report on this and other winter predictions.

The Almanac reports, “Freezing temperatures will be especially pronounced along most of the Atlantic seaboard and in the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, Pacific Northwest, and southwestern states.”

With temperatures dropping below normal, snowfall doesn’t look any nicer for other United States regions. “The Northeast, Ohio Valley, northern Plains, and Pacific Northwest should brace for a slew of snow.” For these areas, the extreme cold and above normal snowfall will make this coming winter one to endure.

However, for places like Boston who had hit a record high snowfall last year, people won’t have to worry about another winter of that extreme. The Almanac states, “The good news is that areas with record-shattering snow last winter – like Boston – won’t have to deal with quite so many flakes.”

Kelly Nelson of Cozy Products states, “We choose to use The Old Farmer’s Almanac here because it’s what we use ourselves; they even get Chicago weather predictions right. No one gets Chicago’s weather predictions right!”

Since Cozy Products sells personal heaters and have peak sales during the coldest months, accurate weather predictions are critical.

For the past two winters, Cozy Products has broadcasted and seen the great precision of the Almanac’s predictions. Impressively its traditional accuracy rate is a whopping 80 percent. NY Daily News even quotes that last year’s 2015 forecast alone scored a high 96.3 percent accuracy!

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac page, they were founded in 1792 by Robert B. Thomas, and utilize a private and sophisticated scientific formula with state of the art technology. The development of the formula combines studies of solar science, sunspots, solar activity, weather patterns, and more to make their accurate estimates each year.

Cozy Products offers an array of low wattage personal heaters that are cost-effective, safe, and energy efficient. All products are tested by reputable companies to ensure maximum safety by reducing risks of fire and circuit overloads. Unlike standard space heaters, most Cozy Products heathers only require as much energy as a light bulb to run. With a focus for a superior level of quality, Cozy Products strives to meet the highest of standards.

As temperatures begin to drop, blogger “The Chicken Chick” stresses the importance of avoiding traditional heaters due to the associated risks and dangers. Low-watt heating manufacturer Cozy Products discusses her blog.

With the winter season coming close, the need for additional heat within chicken coops is a common concern. As a manufacturer of low-watt heaters, Cozy Products is familiar with the problem and discusses the issue.

“Don’t use heat lamps inside the coop… If absolutely necessary to add a few degrees to the inside of the chicken coop in the winter, utilize a safe heat source such as a flat panel heater that brings the temperatures up just a few degrees,” The Chicken Chick explains.

The flat panel heater she links to is the Cozy Coop, an ETL Certified Zero-Clearance flat panel heater that is rated for safety and low wattage.

“We are pleased to hear that customers were using the Cozy Legs for this application, our products are effective and efficient,” said a customer service representative at Cozy Products. Cozy Products are typically purchased for office and home use, but chicken coops are a natural extension especially because zero clearance means they are safe. While traditional space heaters emit temperatures that are too strong and possibly dangerous, Cozy Legs provides moderate heat using both radiant and convection heat and carries a safety certification that is not too hot for small spaces like chicken coops.

As mypetchicken.com explains, since chickens have the ability to adapt to lower temperatures in time, it is important to avoid having a drastic difference between indoor and outdoor climates. Too much heat creates a new problem where chickens are no longer able to adjust to the extreme cold, since the indoor coop temperatures are so warm.

When traditional space heaters are present in coops, it is not uncommon for chickens to huddle around it for extra warmth. However, in these cases, it becomes more difficult for them to acclimate to the cold that rests away from the heater and outside of the coop. The chickens then refuse to leave the coops, and instead continuously breathe in the wet and unhealthy air generating inside.

Due to fire hazards and other safety concerns, The Chicken Chick opposed any use of heat lamps inside a coop, as well. She states, “There is no way to use a heat lamp safely inside a chicken coop. Any chicken can fly into a heat lamp, catch its feathers on fire and incinerate the entire flock and coop.”

Cozy Products offers a complete line of low wattage and energy efficient personal heaters that not only save energy and money, but also reduce the risk of fire and circuit overloads. Based in Chicago, IL USA, Cozy Products strives for a superior level of quality with its products to provide customers with extra warmth even when surrounded by harsh temperatures. Cozy Products offer cost-effective solutions to keep comfortable in cold conditions.

Global Warming Continues Despite November 2014’s Broken Cold and Snow Records in United States

November 2014 broke cold and snow records across North America, but according to a new BBC report, 2014 is still globally the warmest it has ever been. Cozy Products report.

The unusually chilly month of November 2014 broke records around the country for both cold and snow, weather.com reports. However, the BBC reported December 4 that, “World on course for warmest year.”Cozy Products, heating experts, explain why making eco-friendly heating choices now and the rest of this winter is so important, as global warming continues to be a problem.

According to the weather.com report, November started out with arctic air and snow whipping downward from Siberia and the North Pole, breaking records for many parts of the country. Records included the coldest month of November, the coldest calendar day(s), and of course the earliest and heaviest snowstorms.

In fact, the entire country was stunned in mid-November by the cold. As Weather Bell illustrated on No. 18, “Tuesday morning, America ‘as a whole’ awoke to the coldest it has been in November since 1976 – 38 years ago.” With the images and stories in national news, it’s easy not to think about this on a global scale.

However, according to the BBC’s report, 2014 is still the warmest year on record on a global scale. The report states, “In the first 10 months of 2014, global average air temperature was about 0.57 Celsius above the long-term average.” Global warming appears to continue on an upward track, with 14 of the 15 warmest years occurring this century.

The BBC’s science editor also noted, “2014 [has] been a year of extremes.”

The report goes on to explain that a study conducted by the Met Office (the UK’s national weather service) found that these temperatures would be very unlikely if greenhouse gases produced by humans were not a component. One Met Office scientist stated, “In the world that would have been, it’s very unlikely that we’d see the temps we’re seeing now.”

Cozy notes that 2014 was not only a year of extremes; it is (hopefully) a wake-up call. While energy efficiency is gaining importance, people still react to cold temperatures by blasting the heat. While it is very important to stay warm, both for comfort as well as health, it is important not to overdo it. Conserving energy with heating not only helps to cut down on the effect of global warming, it saves money. Energy saving, low watt heating devices are much more efficient and safer than traditional outdated methods.

Cozy Products manufactures energy-efficient, low-watt personal heaters that conserve energy, prevent circuit overloads, put heat where you need it most, and reduce the risk of fire. Extremely popular with homeowners as well as companies large and small looking to reduce costs, Cozy Products has built its reputation on safer, economical, green, effective products that are designed to prevent the costs and hazards inherent with most space heaters.

Buffalo New York Faces Floods As Record Snowfall Melts

Buffalo's recent record snowfall turns into dangerous flood water as temperatures abruptly rise, Cozy Products report.

As high winds bring warmer temperatures to a region that just last week gained 88 inches (over 7 feet) of snow, flood concerns consume Western New York (USA Today).Cozy Products, heating experts, report.

"Since many storm drains are snow clogged, many urban areas will likely experience flooding with several feet of water possibly accumulating on some stretches of road. Some residential basements will start to flood at this time, as well," stated the National Weather Service via USA Today.

According to NBC News, the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has told people in flood-prone areas to have their bags packed in case of disaster. Workers are moving as quickly as possible to transfer snow out of flood-prone areas to safe zones with large trucks before it melts, as strong winds reaching up to 60mph push their way through.

Governor Cuomo said, “Flooding, in my opinion, is worse than dealing with snow. Floods are much more dangerous and destructive than people think… It's not water. It's a toxic brew… it has sewage in it, it has all sorts of run-off in it, and it does tremendous damage with anything that it hits, so flooding is nothing to take lightly," notes NBC News. Trees and power lines damaged and uprooted by the weather may come down, causing road hazards and loss of power. Municipal services are doing their best to warn people ahead of time in case evacuation is necessary, and the National Weather Service currently has flood warnings in place through Wednesday.

Considering the number of hazards and risks involved for residents of affected areas, disaster preparation is extremely important. Aside from being prepared in case of evacuation, Cozy Products offer some tips for the situation at home.

Power outages can be especially dangerous in cold weather. Downed power lines in water often create electrocution risk, so staying far away from them is important; contact the utility company. Preserve cell phone batteries for emergency calls only, and check the weather reports on a battery-operated radio. Keeping spare batteries around is a very good idea. Candles, oil lanterns, and flashlights are also wise, as is a first aid kit.

Keep warm clothes on hand, particularly clothing to cover your feet, hands, and head – the areas where your body loses the most heat. If available, warm showers can quickly raise body temperature as well; electric water tanks will stay warm for a few hours. Keeping a non-electric heating solution, such as battery-powered Cozy Feet inserts can help a great deal as well. Check on neighbors who are elderly or may have medical conditions to make sure they’re prepared as well, as power outages can prove lethal for some. Keeping food that does not need to be cooked, as well as clean drinking water, is also a good idea.

Remember to unplug all appliances to protect from power surges once power is restored, especially delicate electronics such as computers and televisions, especially if they are not plugged into a surge protector outlet.

Cozy Products manufactures energy-efficient, low-watt personal heaters that conserve energy, prevent circuit overloads, put heat where you need it most, and reduce the risk of fire. Popular with offices and customers worldwide, Cozy Products has built its 50 year reputation on safer, economical, green, effective products that are designed to prevent the complications inherent to most space heaters.

Winter 2015 is Coming: Farmers’ Almanac Again Predicts Nasty Winter Ahead

After Winter 2014, many Americans were hoping for a mild winter this year. Unfortunately, as Cozy Products reports, that's not in the cards.

Winter is coming – and it’s going to be another cold one. Americans saw the proof of the Farmers’ Almanac’s accuracy last winter, when they predicted the “colder-than-normal winter for two-thirds of the country” with “piercing cold” conditions (Cozy News).Cozy Products explain why Americans should prepare now for yet another below-normal winter.

This year, the Old Farmers Almanac again predicts that it will be colder than normal for most of the country.

In the Midwestern and Heartland sections, including Chicago, Milwaukee, Des Moines, Detroit, and Indianapolis, the publication states, “Winter will be colder than normal, with the coldest periods in late December, throughout January, and in early February.” It also states snowfall will be heavier than normal for most of these areas.

Between the Ohio Valley and Atlantic Corridor, including the Northeast, New England, Cincinnati, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Richmond, the Almanac states, “Winter will be colder and slightly wetter than normal, with above-normal snowfall.” The most snow is said to fall between mid to late December and continue through February. Notably in Ohio, “Winter will be much colder than normal… [and] snowfall will be above normal.” Snow is expected to continue through March.

The Deep South is said to be, “much colder than normal... Snowfall will be near or slightly above normal in the north.” The Southeast, including Atlanta and Raleigh, is predicted to be “colder and drier than normal, with near- to above-normal snowfall.” Texas is also said to carry temperatures below normal, though snow will be low. The High Plains, which include Cheyenne and Denver, are said to be colder and drier than normal. Areas where temperatures will be warmer than usual include the Desert Southwest, Pacific Southwest and Northwest, and the Intermountain areas.

Overall, the country appears to face another below-average winter. In the Midwest, where Cozy Products headquarters is located, Radio Iowa states, “For winter 2015 the prediction is bitter and snowy, which I think is about the worst prediction of any section of the country.” This is contracted however by ABC 7, stating that, “nearly the entire country, especially the New England area, will suffer yet another very cold winter this season.” Whatever the case ends up being, it’s unquestionable that this winter appears to be shaping up to hit the whole country hard – again.

While the Old Farmers’ Almanac itself, which was founded in 1792, states no one has yet to predict long-range weather with complete accuracy, their 222 years of results, “are almost always very close to… 80 percent.” Considering their complete accuracy last winter, there is plenty of reason to believe them.

Cozy Products offer energy-efficient, low-wattage personal heaters that conserve energy and reduce fire risk with a unique, common-sense approach. Most Cozy heaters use between 90 and 150 watts, compared to typical 1,500 to 2,500 watt space heaters, while doing the same job. Focused on effective, money-saving solutions for home and office, Cozy Products are rigorously tested by private and government sources to ensure all products meet the highest possible standards.

The job markets on the west and south sides of Chicago continue to struggle, where education and job opportunities are extremely difficult to find. The community-based organization Greater West offers education programs tailored to local business demands, such as Bird-X, Inc., including its shipping and receiving program currently in progress.

April 2014 marks the start of Greater West Town Community Development Project’s most recent community education program for shipping and receiving skills, tailored to the specific needs of local businesses who hire its graduates, including Bird-X, Inc.

"Greater West is a community-based response to expand economic opportunities for the disadvantaged residents of the Greater West Town communities,” said Mike Redmond, Program Coordinator and one of the instructors of the class.

The shipping and receiving program gives participating members of the community the tools to learn how to operate a shipping facility, including various kinds of forklift operation, hand-held scanner skills, UPS and FedEx computer systems, and international shipping requirements. “It’s basically a year’s worth of job experience knowledge formatted into a 12 week program,” said Carmen Myers, another course instructor.

Brenda Gaddis was placed at Bird-X, Inc. after graduating Greater West’s Shipping and Receiving course. “I found out about Greater West on TV; I applied and was accepted, then went through the course – I had no idea there was so much involved to work in a warehouse! I’m so happy I found them.” Ms. Gaddis has been employed at Bird-X for 3 years.

Jimmy Marks, Director of Operations at Bird-X, Inc. (whose offices and warehouses also house Cozy Products andYates Motloid) and Partner of Greater West, has found these programs extremely beneficial. “It’s difficult to find employees with the skills that match today’s complicated shipping and receiving requirements. International shipping is even more difficult, so having a program like this that so perfectly teaches these skills to eligible employees in our community is priceless. This is why I’ve been using Greater West with Bird-X, Yates, and Cozy for 8 years.”

In addition to the obvious benefit to local businesses, Greater West helps their community and individuals within the community find hope and opportunity in today’s struggling job market. Many Greater West Town students are low income and lack formal education and skills. Greater West Town graduates include non-high school graduates, ex-offenders, and low income or long-term unemployed.

“I love working with people,” Mr. Redmond stated, “I love watching them go from one step to another. I’ve been here 17 years – I wouldn’t trade this job in for the world.”

Founded in 1988 (operating for 26 years), Greater West’s mission is to improve the conditions of the Greater West Town community by bridging the gap between its unemployed workers and local businesses through education. Emphasizing the fact it’s not about “fixing” individuals, rather building bridges, Greater West has put thousands of individuals to work.

Bird-X, Inc. was founded in 1964 and is the leading brand of humane bird and pest control, and is dedicated to protecting human health, wildlife and the environment in which we all live.
Is This Polar Vortex Round 2 Or Just a Long Winter? Tips to Keep Cozy and Safe As This Cold Spell Progresses

As temperatures begin to drop once again, people are asking how long this winter is going to last. Unfortunately, as previously reported by Cozy Products on advisement of The Farmers’ Almanac, this long winter is expected to creep into the spring season.

While the first Polar Vortex struck the continent with a bang, what the media is calling “Polar Vortex 2.0” may be mostly hype. In reality, as Cozy Productsreported back in September, this winter is predicted to be atypically cold, bitter, and drawn out.

In more detail, the 220-year-old publication The Farmers’ Almanac, whose predictions prove consistently true year after year, tells us that while January’s harsh start is over, the rest of this month will be bitterly cold.

February will greet us with a series of heavy storms throughout the first part of the month, possibly affecting the Super Bowl on February 2. “Most of the rest of February will be characterized by punishing weather, including a powerful storm system toward the middle of the month.” March is expected to be cloudy with windy conditions early on, snow in many places, and winter conditions are expected to last into Spring (which officially begins Thursday, March 20).

In the wake of Polar Vortex 1.0, Cozy Products (based in Chicago) is currently experiencing temperatures about 20°F lower than the average. Great citywide efforts went into bringing the homeless population as well as people otherwise at risk of exposure (people without heat, for example) into safe, heated locations. Keeping warm is not just about comfort at these temperatures, it’s about safety!

Unfortunately, space heaters also pose a safety risk, as heater-related fires across the continent have spiked. According to theNational Fire Protection Association, space heaters account for approximately one third of all home heating fires, half of which take place during December, January, and February – and March may also be high this year.

Rising energy bills are also causing worry and stress, and the additional greenhouse gasses from increased energy production are harming the planet.

Choosing lower-watt space heaters will keep you safer, will lower your energy bills, and will keep you warm and protected from the cold. If you choose a space heater which is intelligently designed, it can prove just as effective as a model that costs more to do the same job. The fewer watts the heater requires, the lower the chance of overloading electrical circuits which can lead to fire – and the lower your energy bills will be.

Additional tips for keeping warm this winter: make sure to keep all heating devices (chimneys, space heaters, central heaters) clean of debris, dust, pet hair, or other build-up. All electrical heating devices should be plugged into the wall directly, as many extension cords are not built to handle the wattage most space heaters require.

Make sure your space heater features safety tip-over shut-off protection, as they can be easily tipped over by children, pets, wind, or other factors. Place your space heaters approximately 3 feet from anything flammable, including furniture, curtains, bedding, etc. When you leave the room or go to bed, turn off the space heater as a precaution.

The Cozy Products Eco-Save Heater uses just 750 watts (most space heaters on the market use around 1,500 watts), carries the ETL Listed Mark for safety, features safety tip-over shut-off protection, and has a sleek, compact egg-shaped design that’s easy to clean and maintain. It’s very popular for office spaces due to its lower fire hazard and money-saving qualities, as well as for home use.

About:
Cozy Products offers energy-efficient, low-wattage personal heaters that conserve energy, prevent circuit overloads and reduce fire risk. Focused on effective, common-sense solutions for home and office, Cozy Products are rigorously tested by private and government sources to ensure all products meet the highest standards available.

Cozy Products Introduces "The Cozy Advantage"

As the temperatures cool down, Cozy Products warms up with the same tried-and-true customer promise it’s always had, keeping in step with today’s market demands for safer, greener, low-watt personal heaters.

Today’s public is better informed than ever, and Cozy Products could not be happier. As both companies and individuals alike demand higher standards for heating solutions, low-watt heating systems as safer alternatives to traditional space heaters continue to grow in popularity.

The Cozy Advantage is a promise that everything Cozy Products sells meets today’s strict criteria, and has been doing exactly that longer than anyone: heating products that are safe, economical, green, and effective. Every product sold by Cozy Products must adhere to these guidelines, identifying Cozy’s long-time commitment to amplifying market demands.

Safety is a major concern for today’s market, and with good reason. A recent 2013 report by the National Fire Protection Association shows that every year an average of 60,407 fires occur because of heating equipment, resulting in nearly 500 civilian deaths, over 1,600 injuries, and $913 million in property damage! The Cozy Legs personal heater is even an ETL Certified Zero-Clearance item, which means it can be used in tight spaces or mounted directly to surfaces without becoming a fire hazard. All Cozy products are rigorously tested to ensure they are as safe as possible and offer a long history of real-life use.

The low-watt requirement not only helps to improve product safety, but it saves a lot of money. One standard space heater might use 1500-2000 watts of electricity, resulting in an annual electric price of approximately $474.00. A Cozy heater however, at only 100-150 watts, would cost just $33 for the full year. That’s a difference of $441! If you multiply that by the numerous space heaters typically found in a home or office, the savings can be in the thousands of dollars.

Of course this also means energy conservation, which has become increasingly important to individuals and energy-conscious companies. Since Cozy Products only require about as much energy to run as a standard light bulb, this means a very literal ton and a half of CO2 savings every year.

Finally, these products are effective at keeping customers cozy and warm, hence the company name! "The Cozy Advantage" is a new term which summarizes the standards Cozy Products has always demanded; all products sold by Cozy Products meet this strict criteria.

Cozy Products is based in Chicago, IL and has been the established leader in energy-efficient, low-wattage heaters for over forty years. Cozy’s mission is to provide safe, green, money-saving heating solutions for today’s eco-conscious world. Save Money. Conserve Energy. Stay Cozy.

Real Simple Magazine Top 7 Space Heaters - Cozy Legs

According to Real Simple Magazine, the Cozy Legs Radiant Heater Panel is one of the top 7 space heaters on the market. The Real Simple ‘Daily Finds’ Newsletter provides readers and consumers with editor picks and recommendations for beauty products, home goods, and more. In this recent edition of Daily Finds, 7 Space Heaters – Real Simple editors name their favorite space heaters based on several factors including price, safety features, versatility, heating capacity, and more.

One important factor not mentioned in the article is energy consumption. Of the seven space heaters offered, Cozy Legs is by far the most energy-efficient option. The Cozy Legs personal space heater uses just 90 watts – this is as little as a typical light bulb. All of the other space heaters use anywhere from 400 to 1500 watts – levels that often result in high utility bills and blown circuits.

Pricing for the seven recommended space heaters ranges from $30 to $139, with Cozy Legs falling somewhere in the middle at around $60 retail. However, manufacturer Cozy Products offers bulk discounts to office managers and facilities when multiple Cozy Legs heaters are needed to replace problematic, high-wattage space heaters.

One of the most prominent factors in choosing the seven space heaters is safety. Most of the units have safety features to reduce fire hazards, such as automatic shut-off / tip-over protections. However, Cozy Legs is the only model that is an ETL Certified Zero-Clearance item. This means that Cozy Legs can be mounted with ‘zero-clearance’; safety tests indicate it will not catch fire even if combustible items are touching the heated panel directly.

All of the space heaters recommended in the Real Simple article are small and versatile. Some, including Cozy Legs, can be mounted on walls or under desks for discreet, space-saving applications at home or at the office. Real Simple editors describe Cozy Legs as “Good news for those with perpetually cold feet.”

New Cozy Products Website Targets Space Heater Issues While Offering Low-Wattage Heating Alternatives

Cozy Products launches new website to educate consumers on space heater safety, to provide savings opportunities to businesses, and to offer low-wattage personal heating devices for purchase.

Cozy Products recently launched a new website that educates consumers and business owners on the real costs of using traditional high-wattage space heaters. The new website also offers safe alternative personal heating products for purchase.

Cozy Products has been leading the low-wattage space heater movement for decades – proving that energy-efficient personal space heaters are a safe, effective, cost-efficient way to stay warm in the home and workplace.

Typical space heaters use around 1500-2500 watts. Cozy Products low-wattage personal space heaters use between 90 and 750 watts – most Cozy heaters use about as much energy as a light bulb.

The New Cozy Products website targets all of the key issues associated with space heaters:

1) Fire hazards – heating equipment was responsible for over 57,000 home structure fires in 2010 (NFPA)

2) Electricity costs – low-wattage space heaters can save users up to 95% in energy costs

3) Carbon emissions – using one high-wattage space heater can create over 2 tons of carbon emissions each year

4) Power outages – high-wattage space heaters trip circuits and blow fuses; for companies with many computers running, this can result in lost data and damaged equipment

5) Space heater bans – many organizations have officially banned space heaters, but chilly employees ignore the bans, smuggling in their own cheap (high-wattage) heaters just to stay warm

6) Temperature wars – the bottom line is, space heaters do have a purpose and Cozy heaters allow for safe, efficient, individual climate regulation

The new Cozy Products website encourages business owners to implement company-wide space-heater swaps. Basically, employees replace their old space heaters with a company-provided Cozy heater – usually Cozy Legs or Toasty Toes. Cozy Legs is safety-rated Zero Clearance, making it especially suitable for use in even the most highly regulated buildings. Why would any company make such an investment in space heaters?

One Fortune 500 company swapped around 450 high-wattage space heaters with Toasty Toes heated footrests and saw a per-season savings of $17,000 in energy costs and over 70 tons of carbon emissions. Read the fullCase Study here.

For more information about Cozy Products low-wattage personal space heaters, visit http://www.cozyproducts.com.

About Cozy Products: Cozy Products is based in Chicago, IL and offers energy-efficient, low-wattage personal heaters that save on electricity costs, prevent circuit overloads and reduce fire risk. These personal heaters are safe for use by everyone and cost just pennies a day to run.

Cozy Products Introduces a Low-Wattage, Zero-Clearance Space Heater, Perfect for Office Use

Almost every office manager has found themselves in the middle of an office temperature war at one time or another. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. One employee can be visibly perspiring, while another is bundled in layers from head to toe. It’s nearly impossible to make everyone happy.

Chicago based company, Cozy Products, has developed a solution to this wide-spread problem. The Cozy Legs flat-panel personal heater is a low-wattage, zero-clearance item that keeps legs and feet warm using radiant and convection heat.

Many offices ban the use of space heaters due to high energy costs, safety concerns and inefficiencies caused by tripped circuit breakers. Cozy Legs can put an end to the office temperature wars and the concerns associated with the use of space heaters:

1.) Cozy Legs is a low-wattage, energy-efficient device that operates on just 150 watts – the same as an average light bulb. Typical space heaters use up to 2500 watts! Cozy Legs allow business owners to keep the thermostat lower while individuals who want extra warmth use the personal heater at their desks.

2.) Cozy Legs is a zero-clearance item. With most space heaters, flammable material must remain a certain distance from the operating device.

3.) Cozy Legs is certified by ETL to meet applicable U.S. and Canada electrical safety standards (UL equivalent). Even the strictest office and building codes can allow the use of the Cozy Legs personal heaters.

4.) Cozy Legs is ideal for office use. It can be used free-standing or wall-mounted under any desk. The gentle heat improves comfort and work performance. The 10-ft cord reaches most outlets without the need for an extension cord or additional power strip. And the in-cord roller power switch gives fingertip control for added convenience.

Research Reveals 95% Savings, Low-Watt Space Heaters

New research from Cozy Products determines that replacing old space heaters with low-wattage personal heaters results in 95% savings for users and the environment. This new data reveals that individual users can save hundreds of dollars every year just by swapping their old energy-wasting space heaters with a low-wattage Cozy heater. For the many companies where multiple employees are running old space heaters, the annual savings can reach into the thousands.

For example, swapping one (1) old space heater with a low-wattage Cozy heater results in an annual savings of up to $441.00 and 1.46 tons of CO2 emissions per year. On a larger scale, replacing ten (10) energy-draining office space heaters with low-wattage Cozy heaters results in an annual savings of up to $4,410.00 and 14.58 tons of CO2 emissions. To see the rest of the savings data, see our Heating Cost Calculator page.

Traditional space heaters use between 1500 and 2500 watts. These high-powered devices place an unnecessary financial burden on users, forcing them pay dearly just to stay warm during the colder winter months.

According to a 2009 study by IFMA (International Facility Management Association), 60% of employees experiencing temperature issues in the workplace report using personal space heaters to improve conditions. Even in offices and facilities where portable space heaters are banned (due to fire hazards and tripped circuit breakers) there are reports of thermally disgruntled employees ignoring the bans and smuggling in their own space heaters.

Low-wattage space heaters are a safe, cost-effective solution to this problem. They give individuals personal control over their environment. It is recommended that companies provide employees with a list of approved UL / ETL safety-certified personal space heaters. Or even better, the company can purchase the approved heaters for employees who are interested in the option. The annual savings on the electric bill is well worth the one-time cost of the devices, especially since the heaters are sure to improve comfort, morale and productivity in the workplace.

*Based on the 2011 Average Retail Price of Electricity of 11¢ per kwh according to http://www.eia.gov
*Based on an average 1500-watt space heater compared to a 150-watt Cozy personal space heater
