A fresh little combination here in this kitchen going with more of a warmer overall feel. A prime example of the owners love of the shade of gray in this rustic stone home.

The warmer, deeper tone on the cabinets pairs so well with the honed Jet Mist granite. And to finish off the look, they've clad the backsplash in Carrara marble. It lightens the look and just slightly sets off the granite.

Love coffee? Love hanging at the local coffee house? Here's a very cool place in Chicago with an obvious passion for the product and a desire to create an amazing customer experience.

Killer design from the marbled bamboo plywood throughout to the kickass original street lights that illuminate the Barrista Bar. And check the back-lit perforated panels of the bar, suggesting the coffee filtering process. Once again showcasing that freakish creativity. You can also check this post over at Fred Flare.

Camping Pods

Glorified camping. Check these custom pods. A unique, eco-friendly, custom residence for a family that grew up with a passion for the area.

Three individual, distinctive pods for bathing, sleeping and living were all fabricated off site as to not to disturb the natural surrounds and then carefully integrated with the roof structure and deck system once delivered.

Indoor/outdoor living highlighted with some killer local custom hardwoods and corrugated metal cladding.

Energy efficient by design. This place is fully equipped with rainwater storage tanks, solar hot water and electrical panels and community water recycling.

Brooklyn Kitchen

It seems options are always limited when you're working with a galley style (narrow) kitchen. Windows and tall ceilings are a bonus but can you get creative and maximize all at the same time? Try mixing up the style. A little modern. A little rustic. Blend the two. And a great use of the space with the hardwood shelves on the metal brackets. A nice subtle tie-in with the island.

Sweet solid wood island top with the custom knife holder. Very fresh.

A classic. An original farmhouse sink. The rustic vibe.

Wine Villas

A cluster of 20 villas with killer views, overlooking more than 200 acres of vineyard in Baja California, Mexico. This place is fresh. Minimal details throughout make up these pods. They've been dubbed a "deluxe" camping house.

A fresh, clean, modern vibe make up the interior. Your basic black and white with plywood accents and some cool pipe lighting.

Love the design and feel of the exterior. The idea was to clad the pods with materials that will weather and wear over time and mesh with the surrounding natural elements. A solid foundation and framing of Corten steel and local hardwood siding. A distinct look and such a peaceful setting.

White Space

The white space. If you're going to roll with some heavy white from floor to ceiling, you have to balance it just right not only with a fresh, badass style but with some color. They nailed this. It works so well with those loud yet subtle tones of yellow, green, orange and blue. And the warmth of wood cabinets and sofa just brings it all home. Killer. Round Tower

An old ruin in the UK transformed into a sleek contemporary pad. When you have such amazing natural surroundings and this prominent architectural gem standing tall, there's no question you need to get creative. So they took the addition below grade.

With the main living space all being underground, the design brings in light with a small open courtyard and a sweet plowed out niche for the swimming pool.

A great shot at dust. The tower itself provides the front entry, two spare bedrooms and a rooftop terrace. I love it. Another prime example of vertical living.

Norway Cottage

A rustic, recycled boathouse/summer cottage off the northwest coast of Norway. This little custom gem replace an original structure that dated back to the 1800's.

The bulk of the weight is distributed across a series of steel beams that have been engineered and designed to incorporate the existing bedrock. Such a cool look with the hanging fire pot and the actual bedrock serving as a little sitting area.

A tight shot showing the detail of the custom shutters. I like the choice in materials, from the rusted, ribbed steel to the lapping of the soft pine. A subtle industrial vibe.

Dual purpose. Providing shade and allowing the breeze to flow through.

A sweet view from the water looking back at the cottage. I love the design in the barn doors. It's just enough to catch your eye as the weathered and worn look of the structure seems to mesh so well with the surrounding landscape.

Mexican Cantina

It was by design. The architects purposely left the ceiling unfinished, exposing the structural elements. This is rugged and borderline crazy. I'm all about character. I would just hope it stays up there.

Always conscious of budget, I like the simplistic use of the hose bib style faucet and concrete trough sink.

Regardless of your take on the ceiling I do like the "basic" materials they've paired here from the polished concrete floors to the galvanized metal chairs. Low maintenance and cost effective. A "what you see is what you get" approach to the design. All brought forth by the design team.

Barrel vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and steel columns. The perfect example of an industrial style loft. A great space to work with all of its character and volume. The place is just kickass. Also such a seamless transition from the industrial to the contemporary.

The creative, minimalistic approach with your stair system. I've seen the contemporary floating tread style before but I can't say I've ever come across the carved out, recessed hand rail. The whole ensemble blends so well with the design yet it also boasts this strong artistic quality. And check the rustic, old work bench they're using as the dining table. A sweet accent piece among the heavy modern vibe.

Googie Architecture

How about a little Googie architecture? A modern, futuristic form of design influenced by the Space Ages. Freaky designs that were all about turning heads. I feel like it's a love/hate style. Here are a few of the last ones standing. Most have been destroyed over the years as many have not been that impressed.

Born in LA, the style took off with the glitz of Hollywood. It blew up on the west coast and slowly headed east. Sharp angles, swooping roof lines, huge cantilevers and over the top colors. It was all about the flash. You can also check this out at my weekly guest home, Fred Flare.

I'm a sucker for a good adaptive reuse project. Check this cool little building that definitely needed some love. A basic brick structure that dates back to the 1890's with a slew of various owners and craftsman. A place with a ton of history and a new owner with a vision and passion for revitalizing his neighborhood.

Simple, sustainable, creative living. Solar panels on the roof, large sliding doors for cross ventilation and appropriately placed cabinetry to not only deaden sound but also shield some of the heat from the south.

Moroccan Glazed Tile

These are nice. Moroccan glazed tiles or Zellige. I just came across them while researching and finalizing some small details on a project. Handmade so they give off a little bit of a rugged look however they have a formal feel to them as well. That's a crazy star light fixture in the photo too.

What can I say about the Novogratz? Killer style. Edgy and fresh. Full of color and pattern and never afraid to mix it all up. Check this Bowling Penthouse they did in New York City. It's badass.

Subtle clean lines. Smooth, modern stainless steel tops and appliances mixed with the antique salvaged mirror and bottles.

Glass Cube

A studio and boathouse with an abundance of natural light. The ideal spot for this photographer. The sheer mass of the main living area/studio and an ever changing backdrop sets this place apart from your mainstream studio. A simple, clean and open design. A sweet example of the minimalists approach not only to structure but to the landscape as well. The site speaks for itself and they fully embraced the surroundings.

Looking up at the Master Suite with your back to the water. Sliding glass panels allow just enough light and provide the necessary privacy.

Farmhouse Tower

This is just fresh. I've posted in the past on 'vertical living' and this is yet another example that I think is so unique. A sweet blend of farmhouse modern. This little gem is located in a farming town in the Sacramento Valley.

The design was inspired by water towers and small sheds that scatter the farmland. The owners also wanted to the place to be mobile so the main living cabin was slightly elevated off the ground and built up on piers. It also allows air to circulate keeping the space cool.

The 360 degree view from the top of the tower. Perfect and so relaxing.

Pirate Room

Is this a kids bedroom or a movie set? Talk about crazy. If you have a love of pirates then this is for you. So unique and so well done. This is craft and creativity all rolled into one. Hand hewn beams, faux finishes and a rope bridge.

They've even incorporated the underwater feel with the painted murals on the walls.

It's all covered here. A little jail cell with a custom iron door.
