It's not as impressive as I thought it was! It looks so impressive in bins on the shelf, but once I went through and actually counted, it's not a whole lot. I did skip some items, like my half skeins of Homespun which I will never use again because I hate hate hate it. I have an entire bin of old acrylics that I use for amigurumi, and it's not even worth cataloging. I might actually thin out that stash a little bit.

I just ordered some Shine and Comfy from Knit Picks. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting and can't wait to get it. I'm doing this knit-a-long by proxy. I did not know Dewey personally, but she had a huge impact on a lot of people, and I know folks who were very close with her, so out of respect of their friendship with her I'm going to make (hopefully) 10 preemie hats this year for donation. This is actually something that I've wanted to do for a long time. My very oldest and dearest friend's first born came into the world at 28.5 weeks and he was teeny tiny, and spent about 3.5 months in the NICU where he was given lots of TLC by some very great nurses. Her second born, my god-daughter was born at 32 weeks and spent some time in the NICU as well, though not nearly as much as her brother. I figure that this is the least I can do to give back to a very giving department in every hospital. These two kids are now thriving 5 and 6 year olds and you wouldn't know that they were born early.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep pumping out hats every year. They're quick knits, I just don't have a lot of time to knit these days, so it took me about 4 nights to finish that hat.

Finished!

I finished up the beret I was working on! I went and had a baby and stopped knitting for a year. Most people knit like crazy when they're pregnant, I unfortunately ended up with such bad carpal tunnel that my hands would go numb after 2 minutes of knitting. I'm currently working on this beret. I've wanted a slouchy hat for a long time now and I decided to give it a go. I only get through 4 rows or so a night but hopefully I'll get it done before the seasons change! I broke my resolution and had three projects going at once, because the top secret project was drying after I blocked it, so I couldn't do anything with it, and my KAL project was upstairs, so I just started a hat. It's crochet, TABOO! I'm not sure if I like it. Many pictures to come!

crafty resolutions

I'm not doing typical resolutions this year. They always turn out the same, "lose weight, get healthy," "save more money," "get organized." I'm slightly neurotic when it comes to most things in life so my goal setting on a routine basis is enough to control most of those general topics. My main resolution for 2008, finish the knit projects that I start, don't start projects I know I will fall out of love with, and knit a damn sweater already. I've been doing this knitting thing on and off for 5 years now, and, excluding hats, I haven't knit anything that wasn't square. How boring! In 08 I'm going to branch out, explore new yarns, and textures and see where it takes me. There are also some new techniques I want to try, like knitting on two circulars because lord knows dps drive me nuts!

I have a project that I'm about half way through at the moment, but I can't really post images of it, because it's for a soon to be little human, who's mama may read this and who is definitely a friend on Flickr so you know, the debut of that project will be sometime after it is mailed off and opened by the mama-to-be. I've decided that the baby blanket I was griping about in the previous entry will get finished, but it's going to be my "second" project so it will probably be done in 2012, and lord knows what I'll do with it. I might just keep it for posterity!

one down

 DSC_4584
Originally uploaded by tralatrala
I finished up one of my stalled projects. Also it seems I only had 6 hibernating projects. I forgot I pulled out yarn and bagged it with a pattern for a project for a friends daughter. I'm saving that for last!

One down Five to go. This guy was a test run. I started crocheting right after Christmas last year, and I immediately loved making little critters. I was gobbling up various patterns from Etsy, but wanted to see what I could do one my own. I figured this would be easy peasy, it's all spheres! And I was right. It really took about a total of a 8 hours to complete. The eyes are felt with safety teddy eyes. I had to sew them on because the "head" was already completed when I made the eyes. I also find it really hard to place eyes before the things are stuffed and pieced.

it's a start

I decided to finally make the move, I'm pulling my crafty talk out of my regular blog (in hopes of not boring the snot out of friends).

I've been working my way through some old projects.
