Clay Beads Necklace (tutorial)- Guest Post

Hi everyone! Hani so sweetly asked me to do a tutorial for you today! I'm Jamie from Scissors and Steam. I almost always start out not knowing how to do the things on my blog, so if I can do them, you can too! Besides the tutorials, I also blog about crochet, crafts, my canine children, the nutty family, and whatever weirdness I'm getting up to. And trust me, there's a lot of weirdness. Make sure to stop by; I just had my 3 month anniversary so an awesome giveaway is going up today!

I'm going to show you how to make this Faceted Clay Beads Necklace. I've seen some similar beads around the internet, so here's my take on them! I really love this because it's simplicity, asymmetry and interesting colors make the necklace modern and unusual. Plus, bonus, it's super easy to make!

You will need

Oven-hardening clay in whichever colors you like. I used Premo Sculpey in Fluorescent Yellow, Turquoise, and Ecru. And, I guess an oven.
Very sharp knife. I used a craft scalpel. (also bandaids and the hospital on speed dial, if you're as clumsy as I am)
Sculpey Gloss Glaze
A brush to apply the glaze
Needle or other skinny thing to pierce the beads
A strong fine thread. I used DMC tatting thread in Ecru.

I used Sculpey clay in Fluorescent Yellow, Turquoise, and Ecru. I like the combination of the two brights with the light neutral.

First you need to condition the clay. Break off a piece, and start working it in your hands. Bend it, smoosh it, twist it. The idea is to warm it up so it's nice and pliable.

Once it's soft, start rolling out oval beads. I used 3 turquoise, 3 ecru, and 2 fluorescent yellow beads for the finished necklace. But, I suggest making more than you need, because these pretty little beasts will roll away, probably under the oven or into a drain, or possibly into the black hole you didn't know was hiding under your craft table.

Hint: Once you make the beads, stick them in the fridge for an hour or two. If they're cold, they'll be much easier to cut! Now get out your sharp scary knife (those of you who have hung around my blog know that I'm seriously accident-prone) and Carefully start slicing off bits, Of The Beads. Not your fingers.

I like making random cuts so the facets end up asymmetrical, but you can cut them however you like. If you accidentally cut too much, just stick the clay back together and try again! Super easy.

After you make all the facets, tap the edges down very gently to get rid of any flecks of extra clay.

Now get your skinny metal thingy to pierce the beads. I used jewelry findings, but you could just as easily use a long needle. I pierced mine at angles to emphasize the asymmetry. Jam it all the way through, but be careful not to mush your facets. Make sure the hole is big enough to pass a needle through.

Now cook the beads according to the directions on the clay package. Mine said 30 minutes per 1/4" thickness at 275 degrees. I took the tiny yellow beads out after 20 minutes, and cooked the rest for about 35. If you overcook them they'll turn brown and gross. Not that I know, or anything. Okay maybe I do.

Once the beads have cooled, get your glaze and the brush. Don't shake the bottle too much! You'll get bubbles that will make you absolutely crazy trying to get rid of. Not that I did that. Okay maybe I did. Are you seeing the pattern here? I make the mistakes so you don't have to.

I put the beads on the findings to do the glazing, but you don't really have to. It was just easier to keep the wet edges from smudging. Paint the glaze on fairly thin. Once it's dry (about 10 minutes for me) paint another coat. Let them sit for awhile to dry completely.

Now get out your thread. I used DMC tatting thread in ecru. It's tougher and finer than regular thread. Cut a longish piece, maybe 2 or 3 feet. Better to cut longer than too short! Now tie a heavy knot in one end. I used triple overhand knots for this; that seemed to be enough to keep them from slipping through the beads. Now slide one of your heavier beads onto the thread and make sure it doesn't slip off. This will be the dangly end, and also the part that holds the necklace on.

Now, for the rest of the beads, it's up to you where you put them. I wanted mine uneven, so I spaced them somewhat randomly. Put a triple knot (or whatever you need for your beads) wherever you want a bead to rest. You don't need to put a knot on both sides of the beads.

Since this necklace clasps in the front, you'll have to do the opposite with the knots and beads for the other side. Just make sure you check the length as you go.

For the clasp, tie a large looped knot. You'll loop it over the large first bead in order to wear the necklace. It's so cool; there's no fumbling with clasps behind your neck! If you are worried about the knots slipping, you can dab a bit of super glue on them. That's it! So easy, and so pretty, don't you think?

Making Flowers with Fabric & Burlap (Tutorial)

I love bright and colorful things. They make me Happy. :)

Spring is all about color, love, happiness and flowers

And when You put them all together, You Get Colorful Burlap and Fabric Flowers

In my excitement for Spring, I made flowers with defined petals using Burlap and Fabric in different colors

These are the simplest and easiest flowers, to make in no time and they look Beautiful and Special

To make these

You Will Need:

Burlap and Fabric (of your choice)
Sewing Machine
Scissors and glue

Make It:

Simply start by cutting strips of burlap and fabric. About 2 inches in width and an approximate length depending upon the size of the flower you want, mine were random lengths from 12 to 30 centimeter.

(1) Fold the 2" wide strips into half and press if required. Then stitch and over-lock.

I really found over-locking the burlap strips after stitching a very neat idea as it gives a very proper final burlap flower with no hanging strings.

(2,3) Cut the strip using scissors at every 1/2" interval, this will give the petals look of the final flower.

(4-6) Make a small bud (by rolling a small piece of burlap) and start rolling the strip on the bud, gluing at the start and the end.

Keep folding around the bud and glue to seal the end.

When Your done, you will get a pretty blossomed burlap flower that looks like this

You can make colorful blossoms for spring using fabric as well

Combine Burlap and Fabric flowers together, they look wonderful

These flowers are the best crafty use for your left over fabric scraps

My flowers love posing for photos and guess what I could not stop them! ;)

Spring Girl's Petals Skirt (tutorial)- Guest Post

Hello, I am excited to be here! I was so happy when Hani asked me to guest in her lovely space today! I'm Lindsay, from Southern Lovely.
Over at my place you will find all sorts of DIY's, sewing, painting & lots of hot glue projects. It's kind of a little of this & that. :) I have a great time creating it all though.

Today I am going to share a fun project that feeds into my little obsession with skirts. :)

In hopes of warmer weather, I wanted to make a spring skirt. Since I have two little girls, I always make 2 of everything, and for some reason, my 2nd item always turns out better. I do try to rotate who is the 'guinea pig' with each project though. :)

My inspiration came from these petals found at the dollar store, of all places. I loved the pretty pink color, and thought I would give it a try on a skirt. This was very simple to make, but adds so much. Supplies needed:

Material for skirt

(for my 5 year old I cut 15x22 inches & for my 3 year old, 14x20 inches)

Petals

Elastic band

Sewing Machine You will need to refer to my 'easy skirt' post to begin.

Once you have made your skirt, start by pinning one row of petals at the bottom. I liked how my petals draped off the bottom of the skirt. It's up to you how you want it to look.

Then sew a straight line across the petals.

Repeat with a 2nd row.

For the third row, I trimmed off the top of the petal, for a more tailored look. Pin the last row, then sew.

Yes, it's really that easy. I love the dimension the petals

Don't you love how my little model is such a poser. This girl cracks me up. :)

The first skirt I made, I pinned all three rows, then sewed. It was kind of a pain to have to lift the row above, then sew. I like the 'pin, then sew, then pin again' method. :) I have washed & dried these skirts & they still look great! They definitely need to be ironed after washing them though. Have fun with this, there could be so many variations of it, I actually have a few more in mind! Thanks for letting me share here today. Add automatic (group) watermarks to photos and images (tutorial)

Watermarks are very important they help keep your content secure under your copyright and can help advertise your page. But adding a watermark to each image every time before uploading takes a lot of time and effort. So my question is! Aren't you tired of manually adding watermarks to each image before uploading in a post?
I found this very easy and useful Watermark Software. This is amazing, you can now add watermarks to all my images in a few seconds and don't have to waste time individually going through the procedure every time.

Moreover, I find adding watermarks to images very important as you don't go checking if your content is being used by someone without any back link or if it links to some other source or what if someone claims to have made it and copies your entire content as there's?
Like it happened with me but I was lucky to have found that website and had it shut down, claiming my Copyright.
Adding watermarks helps you keep your belongings secure online.
Also if someone pins your image to Pinterest and the pin is not linked to the right source, people can find you and link to the original source.

Here's how I add watermarks to my images:

Download Easy Sector by clicking on the link. It's a free watermark software

Once you have installed the software you will get this page when you open it. It has all the guide lines to add watermarks.

You click on the Add button and select "File" or "Folder" to upload all the images for watermark

Once all the images are on board, you can add Copyright (highlighted by pink circle) and Watermark (highlighted by blue circle) by checking the box next to them

Check the watermark box, type in your watermark text and click on "Options and Effects" to change font, add logo, background and personalize your Watermark for images.

Note that the changes you make to the watermark are automatically enforced on other images

You can further explore Easy Sector for more of your personalized needs.

Once you are satisfied with the watermark you want to use with all your images, you can "Save it" as template under a name (highlighted by red box) for future use.

Finally save the images to your computer through the path (highlighted by green box) in the image. And Your Done!

*Make sure all the images are the same size

You can also use this software to convert file's format, e.g from JPG to PNG.

Most of the watermark softwares online have trial versions and you have to pay later. What I love about easy sector is they have a lovely policy for non-commercial bloggers like us. Quick No Sew Cute Lace Bow (Tutorial)- Guest Post

super easy NO SEW Bow

Hi everyone!! I am so excited to be over here today! I’m Ashley, the one behind Cherished Bliss.

I am a stay at home mom to the two most beautiful kids ever and am married to the best husband in the world (I know.. I’m lucky) : )! My family is truly my inspiration for all that I do!

Over at my blog you will find a collection of home décor, sewing projects, furniture redoing, and basically anything else I can get my hands on. I also have an etsy store where I sell photo props and patterns! I love crocheting, and am trying to build up some crochet patterns for the store : ) I have a new one coming out soon!

Today I am going to show you how to make you or your little girl a super easy NO SEW Bow.

You can make this in about the time it takes for your hot glue gun to warm up! That’s my kind of accessory!

{Here is what you will need}

- Scrap piece of knit fabric (even an old t shirt will work) - Scrap piece of lace - Headband of your choice (I used fold over elastic) - Hot glue gun

{Tutorial}

1. Cut out a rectangle from the lace and make it the width you want depending on who you are making it for. Then cut out a piece of knit fabric the same width, but make it a little taller than the lace. Lay them on top of each other.

2. Tear of a thin strip of your knit fabric and tie it around the middle of your fabric.

3. Wrap the ends around the center until you get it the size you want, then glue it down in the back.

4. Next take the elastic for your headband and cut it about 2 inches shorter than the measurement around your head (or whoever you are making it for) Overlap the ends and glue it together.

5. Glue your bow right on top of where you glued the headband together.

5. You can add some felt if you want, but the fold over elastic is pretty soft so I didn’t. (If I would have used the skinny elastic I would have to secure it a little better.)

So easiest bow ever right?
These would make super awesome gifts for any little girl who doesn’t mind a bow in her hair ; ) I have to say I put this on my daughter the other night and it is the first time she left it in there since she first learned how to take it out! I was one happy mama!!

Even though she wore it, she wasn’t very happy for the pictures…I have just learned how to hide the tears! : )

DIY St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Wreath (Tutorial)- Guest Post

Hey everyone! I'm the 'Vixen' from vixenMade (a.k.a. Victoria)! I'm so happy to be here and so honored that Hani has invited me to guest post on her inspiring blog. As a stay at home mommy of 3, I love to create fun and functional things for them. But I also enjoy adorning my home with things I've made as well. So today I thought I'd share with you a cute and festive St. Patty's Day wreath. I'm not Irish, but I do consider myself lucky!Here's what we're making: What you'll need:

wreath form (I found mine for $1 as Christmas clearance)
fabric scraps (lots of green colored fabric)
hot glue gun
felt scraps, ribbon, any other embellishments you wish to use

Take your green scraps and rip or cut 2 inch strips.

Hot glue the end of one strip and start wrapping your wreath.

Add hot glue every so often and continue to wrap your wreath until it's all covered.

Using a knit jersey like fabric (it doesn't have to be, just as long as it's a light and flowy fabric), an old t-shirt works great, cut out 3 inch circles.

I'm not sure how many I used, but I'm guessing about 15-20. Also, your circles don't have to be perfect since it won't matter.

With each circle piece, add a dab of glue in the center.

Then bunch the fabric at the center point with your fingers.

This will make small gathered pieces like this.

Start gluing them onto the bottom corner of your wreath, keeping them fairly close together.

You can make your ruffled bunch as big or as small as you like. This is what you'll create.

Now get to your small scraps.

Cut small triangle pieces out of a few different fabrics and cut a piece of thin ribbon about 12 inches in length (also depends on the width of your wreath).

Glue along the top of the back of your triangle.

Attach the ribbon along the top.

Keep attaching your traingle pieces along the piece of your ribbon. You should only need about 5 or 6 triangles on your mini bunting.

Hot glue the two ends of the bunting onto the wreath. Then trim your ribbon ends.

Using your felt scraps and a template of a shamrock (I used my kiddo's foam stickers, but here's a good template), trace and cut them out.

I did a smaller size out of the white felt as well.

Now hot glue each shamrock to the ends of the bunting.

Then glue the white ones on top.

And that's it!

Now you have yourself a St. Patty's Day wreath!

Why and How to move to a Custom Domain (Blogspot)

Did you think, why randomly one day I just changed my blog's domain to a custom domain?

To be honest, it was just a sudden one week decision which thanks to my husband I mustered up the courage to do so! I am a Big Scary Cat when it comes to technical behind the scenes stuff, because:

I don't want to lose my readers.
I don't want to be in trouble risking my blog.
I have no idea about the technical structure of how a blog works.
I thought I am fine being on blogspot.com domain and will move to WordPress when I feel like.

But seriously hated the part of being a sub-domain but it was okay. But I just realized that buying a custom domain is not only important if you are a professional dedicated blogger who wants better page views and SEO ranking or that many companies prefer to give opportunities to custom domains.

BUT

If tomorrow, you think your love for writing and sharing can earn you something while having fun!
then changing your blog's URL will leave you losing your Page and Alexa Rank.

I searched around the internet and also asked a few blog transfer experts and they all said the same thing,

"You can not save this from happening to your blog."

No wonder why so many people have custom domain from the very start. Duh!

And the funny thing is the more popular your blog becomes, custom domains associated with your blog are taken by random companies so that you pay extra money to buy or place back orders (still no guarantee) to get the custom domain you desire for your blog.

Wonder why you see yourname.blogspot.com transfered to yournameblog.com, yourname.org etc

My blog's custom domains (.com and .org) were also taken :( . And if I would not hurry I might have even lost craftionary.net as well.

I am not like a serious professional blogger but I am here for sharing what I love, crafting and on my way I have made lovely friends and readers, who make me happy and I feel lucky to have such wonderful people around me. So, I am writing all that I know and all You should know to make a decision I made.

I did not move my blog to another host and I am not paying a lot of money for being hosted on wordpress or something. I am still hosting my blog on bloggers free host service. But at least buying a custom domain ended my fear of losing Page Rank in future, after some more is put into that domain.
If you are fine with a sub-domain forever that's your decision but if you wish to change it in future.
I suggest you do it now!
"If your blog has a reputation and a page rank, Google knows about it and you will get back to that state again soon"

And you can move to any hosting service in future and not lose anything. That's like music to ears. Right? :)

Note:
Buying a custom domain is the easiest thing. And in only a few $$, you can have a custom domain still hosted on bloggers.

Warning:
Friends this was not easy. While my blog was in transition I was going nuts. Because I had no clue what I was doing. I went through hell thinking I did something wrong. Because my blog was operating on two different hosts. I had my old blog operating and my new blog operating. My entire site available on two different domains. I was freaking out thinking I have done something wrong, should I go back to blogspot.com or what.
And I found this superb article on Blog's custom domain in transition, this answered all my worries and questions.

I really hope this helps someone out there.

Easy Felt Hair Claw Clips Refashion (Tutorial)

I have one of the Most Easiest Hair Accessories DIY tutorial to share with You today.

After seeing this project, You will first click on to Your "Make It" board and start making cute hair claw clips for Your Beautiful little girls or what about some cuteness for Yourself?

I know the above statement was too funny but I really love how these Hair Clips turned out!

What was the first thing that hit Your mind? Please comment and let me know, I would enjoy reading.

Just with a few simple easy peasy steps You can turn Your ordinary Claw Clips to Super Cute Ones in two minutes and it's just a dollar project, that cheap!

You Will Need:

Claw clips (off course)
Felt or Fabric (I used thin felt)
Sharpie (for sew lines)
Small scissors and White glue (For cutting and sticking)

Make It:

Simply take a piece of felt and place it on the claw clip, trace around and cut

Once all the felt pieces are cut, arrange them on the clip to check for any error possibilities.
Note that the claw clips in the image are very small, it required patience and time to cut neatly.

Now simply brush white glue on the clips and press the felt pieces in place. Let it dry!
(You can also use Mod Podge)

When the claw clip is all dry, mark sewing lines on the edges marking the design of the hair clip with a sharpie or fine-point marker.

That's all. Your Hair clips are refashioned and ready to wear.

So cute!
