Drops Fall Festival Jacket

I have been in and out of my blog for many years. Well, inspiration recently hit. I started working on a pattern by Drops that was so challenging, I was having difficulty with completing it. I had started, but ended up frogging shortly after I realized I didn't have enough yarn.

Fast forward a couple months later and I was back at the same pattern. The directions were originally in a different language, which is why the pattern is so hard.....but.....I decided to write it as I went. THERE WAS SO MUCH MATH! I make no promises that the pattern is accurate, but wanted to at least be helpful to others in figuring out what the pattern was. Please let me know if there are error and I will make the changes. It is also written for a size L.

Here is my version of the written pattern, which I’m not sure if I read the pattern correctly, but this is the way I completed it:

Ch 4 and join with sl st in first ch to create a circle.

R1: Ch 3, 17 dc around ch 4 circle. Sl st in top of beg. Ch 3. Turn.

R2: Ch 4, dc in next dc. *Ch 1, dc in next dc* around. Ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of beg. Ch 4. Turn.

R3: Sl st in first ch 1-sp. Sc in same ch-1 sp. *Ch 12 and sc in next ch-1 sp*. Repeat around until join. Ch 6 and dtr in beginning sc to join. Turn.

R4: Ch 3, dc, ch2, 2 dc in previous ch sp. *2 dc, 2ch, 2dc in next ch sp* around. Sl st to beg ch 3 to join. Turn.

R5: Sl st to first ch2 sp. Ch 4, 1 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr in ch2 sp. *Ch 1.

2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr in next ch2 sp.* Repeat around and join with sl st in top of beg ch4. Turn.

R8: Sl st to ch2 sp. Ch 4, 1 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr in ch2 sp. *Ch 1. 2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr in next ch2 sp.* Repeat around. Sl st into top of beg. Ch4. Turn.

Find the middle 54 2tr, ch2, 2tr groups, on the bottom. These will be the ones we will be working in. Using stitch markers are helpful.

A.3 with 7 loop increase

R24: Sc in ch2 sp. *Ch 6, sc in next ch2 sp.* Repeat 2x. *Ch 12, sc in next ch2 sp* Repeat 6x all together, and add increase by Ch 12, sc in next ch 1 sp. Ch 12. (Ch 12, sc in next ch2 sp. Repeat 6x all together, and add increase by Ch 12, sc in next ch 1 sp. Ch 12.) Repeat around until last 2, where you will ch 6, sc, ch 6 sc. Turn. **when increasing, do not count ch6 sp. You should have 60 loops- 56 ch12 sp and 4 ch6 sp)

R25: Ch 3, sl st in ch6 sp. Ch 5. *2dc, ch 2, 2dc in next sp.* Repeat in all the ch12 sp and the second to the last ch6 sp. Turn.

R26: Sl st to ch2 sp and sc in ch2 sp. Ch 5. *Tr, ch 2, tr in next ch2 sp. Ch 1*. Repeat until the second to last ch2 sp. Turn. (56 tr, Ch 2, tr groups)

Repeat A.3 with increases 2x- This is where it got kinda weird and the math did not work out how I wanted it, but I think it’s just the pattern.

R27: Sl st to ch2 sp, sc. Ch 6, sc in next ch2 sp.(2x). (Ch 12, sc in next ch2 sp)4x, and add increase by Ch 12, sc in next ch 1 sp. Ch 12.) *Ch 12, sc in next ch2 sp. Repeat 6x all together, and add increase by Ch 12, sc in next ch 1 sp. Ch 12.* Repeat around. (62 loops–58 ch12 sp, 4 ch4 sp). Turn

R28: Sl st in ch6 sp. Ch 5. *2dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the next ch2 sp*. Repeat around until the second to last ch6 sp. Turn.

R29: Sl to to ch2 sp and sc in ch2 sp. Ch 5. *2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr, ch 1*. Repeat around the second to last 2dc, ch 2, 2 dc group and do not complete ch 1 from previous tr group or tr in ch 2 sp. Do not turn.

R30: *Ch 4, sc in next ch sp* around, evenly, and aiming to sc in ch2 sp between tr. Based on the patterns instructions, I just kinda wong it here since the point it to make this look more finished and the instructions aren’t good when it comes to the transitions between the rows you’re adding at the bottom.

SLEEVES

For me the increases I had were not even in both arm holes, so I just evenly worked the dc around. It may be helpful to turn your work every row for a better consistency. I did not do this.

R1: *1 dc in first/next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30-33-36 dc + 30-33-36 ch.

R2: * ch 6, skip 5 sts, 1 sc in next st *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 10-11-12 ch-spaces.

R3: Work 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc around every ch-space the entire round = 10-11-12 dc-groups.

R4: Work 2 tr + 2 ch + 2 tr around every ch-space in dc-group and 1 ch between every tr-group the entire round = 10-11-12 tr-group with 1 ch between each.

R5 (dec row): Sl st to ch2 sp and sc. Ch 6, dc in next ch2 sp, ch 6, sc in next ch2 sp (dec made). *Ch 12, sc in next ch 2 sp* around until last sc. Ch 6 and dtr into beg sc.

R6: Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 12 sp. Now working around the dec. Dc 2 in ch6 sp, ch 2, dc in next ch 6. Continue with typical pattern of the *2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc* in each ch sp.

R7: Continue with typical tr group row.

Continue to follow the pattern of dec row, dc groups row, and then tr groups row until you only have 6 groups of tr st in the row. You will then continue your typical pattern of ch 12 row, dc groups row, and tr groups row until you achieve your desired length.

Baseball coasters—free pattern

Baseball coasters...what can I say? I got tired of my boyfriend using paper towels as coasters...

Note: The pattern is worked in a continuous round. I crochet the coasters and free-handed the lacing.

- G hook

- Stitch Marker

- White Cotton Worsted Weight- not sure of the brand because it was in my stash and incredibly old

- Red embroidery thread (aka floss)

Abbreviations:

ch- Chain

sc- single crochet

st- stitch

R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first st.

R2: 2 sc in each st.

R3: 2 sc in first st, sc in next st. Repeat until end of row.

R4: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 st. Repeat until end of row.

R5: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 st. Repeat until end of row.

R6: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 4 st. Repeat until end of row.

R7: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 5 st. Repeat until end of row.

R8: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 6 st. Repeat until end of row. Fasten off and tuck in end.

Use embroidery thread to create stitching, starting with the curved line first, then going back to create the smaller stitches.

Free pattern for simple shawl

Hello everyone....it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’m still here! I recently decided to create a shawl. After trying 2 patterns, I created my own, and here is the result:

The pictures are not the best, but I think you get the point. It can either be worn as a shawl or as a scarf. I noted the yarn I used below, although I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. It tended to split and got extremely tangled during one of my frogging, even though I used a ball winder. So here is the pattern:

Note: The pattern is worked from the bottom up and you will increase on both sides as you go. This is a very simple pattern, that you can add borders, fringe, attach appliqués, and use up all those random yarns you have lying around.

- H hook

- 2 skeins Soft and Shiny by Loops & Threads (Worsted Weight)

Abreviations:

ch- Chain

hdc- half double crochet

R2: Hdc in ch 2 sp, ch 2, hdc in top of 2nd ch from previous row. Ch 4, turn.

Free Adjustable Seashell Skirt pattern

Well, it finally happened. After years of debating, and 4 crochet patterns later, I made a skirt. I've started crocheting a skirt multiple times, but was never satisfied with the outcome. It was too boxy, not girly enough, not lacy enough, etc. etc. So I created my own pattern.

This pattern is not for the faint of heart, and this is the first time I've tried to make a pattern that fits everyone (written pattern is for size 8). So I've either succeeded or failed miserably. But this is an untested pattern, so proceed at your own risk 😊

- I hook

- Worsted Weight Yarn

Abbreviations:

- Fsc- foundation single crochet

- Sh- shell

- Ch- chain

To finish off:

R1: ch up one, and SC in each stitch around, including in each ch and join.

R2: Ch up 5, tr, ch1, tr ch1 all in same st. *tr, ch, tr, ch* in next st. Repeat * to * all the way around and join in 4^th ch in beg ch up 5.

R3: ch up 5, sk ch, *TR in next tr, ch 1*. Repeat * to * around and join in 4^th ch in beg ch up 5.

Fasten off and tuck in ends.

Free pattern for Simple Tapered Leg Warmers

I've been recently frustrated with my crochet and needed an quick, easy pattern to get rid of some of my stash. So I found a pair of leg warmers... Great! Except my gauge was totally off because I almost always refuse to check it since it takes so much time and bothers me since i have to pull extra out of my skein....long story short....I ended up creating my own pattern. Note: These are meant to be more fitted, and you may have to adjust the size.

These leg warmers are a little tapered at the bottom because I wanted to make sure they didn't just come off or make their way under my heel. The pattern is worked in rounds and my calves are about 14". Ch 3 and Ch 2 count as a dc or hdc, EXCEPT for the last round.

Yarn: WW- I used Red Heart
Hooks: H & I
Abbreviations:
- st- stitch
- ch- chain
- dc- double crochet
- hdc- half double crochet
- dec- decrease
- fptc- front post treble crochet

With H hook:

Ch 30 and Join
R1: Ch up 3 and dc in each st around. Join in top of ch 3 (30)
R2: Ch up 3. *fptc, dc*. Repeat * to *. Join in top of ch 3( 30)

Change to I hook:
R3-21: Ch up 2, hdc in each st around and join in top of ch 2 (30)
R22: Ch up 2, 3 hdc, hdc dec over next 2 st. *4hdc, hdc dec*. Repeat * to * and join in top of ch 2. (25)

Chang to H hook:
R23: Ch up 3, dc in each st around and join in top of ch 3 (25)

Ripple cup cozy pattern

Looking for a quick project that I could make for my old coworkers since I now have a new job...but what to make?? I searched high and low and decided a cup cozy would be the best option since everyone drinks coffee or tea. I scoured the internet for a pattern and found a really cute wavy pattern so I bought all the supplies....

After looking at the pattern again, I found out that it cost almost as much money AS a cup of coffee/tea! I'm too frugal and I've been at this too long to pay for a pattern.

And created my own cup cozy pattern:

Using worsted weight and G hook. You will need a button as well.

Ch 39

1. Dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next 4 ch. *Dc2tog 2x. dc in next 3 ch. 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next 3 dc*. Repeat until the end. 2 dc in last dc. Turn

2. 3 Ch. Dc in first 4 st. Dc2tog 2x. dc in next 3 ch. 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next 3 dc*. Repeat until the end. 2 dc in last dc. Turn

Repeat row 2 until desired width (I did 4 rows).

Do not fasten off. Sl st down the side to the bottom of the 4th row and ch 15. Sl st to the top of the 2nd row. Fasten off. Tuck in your ends.

Before sewing on the button, try to wrap your cozy around your mug to make sure it fits. Sizes will vary according to the size of the mug, but there is some give to crochet so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Granny Fail!

I'm always posting patterns and projects...well, this project is a total FAIL!! Behold the granny triangle:

Innocent enough, this granny square has been the bane of my existence. The idea of a triangular granny square was so novel, I wanted to create a vibrant blanket.....over a year and a half ago. With all the colors I wanted to add, as well as different types of yarn, which was a rookie mistake. It started to bubble up in the middle and wouldn't lay flat:

Through this process I've learned several things:

1. Don't use different weights of yarns together--which I should have already known.

2. Two triangles with equal sides do NOT make a square--again I should have known this.

3. It takes a lot of work to put together multiple colors so they look good together.

4. I absolutely hate piecing blankets together.

5. The triangular granny pattern is no longer novel and we are no longer friends.

I ended up taking it apart and using the yellow yarn for a different blanket. Somehow the triangles themselves disappeared, and I have no intention of looking for them at this time.

Three's Baby Blanket

Hey everyone...it's been a while, but I've created a new baby blanket pattern! For this blanket, I did something different and used a graphics program to write the pattern. For the Pattern:

- I used an "I" hook and worsted weight yarn

- The pattern is worked in the round

- The blanket is approximately 36" X 36"

- I did 27 rows, starting with lilac and switched to off-white after three rows.

For this pattern:
- I used an "I" or 5.50 mm hook
- Bernet Baby Sport yarn in "Baby Blue". The white I used was recovered yarn from a blanket, also sport weight.
- This blanket is approx 36"X36".
- "Ch up 3" counts as first dc.

New Blankets!

Hey everyone...so it's definitely been a while since I've posted, but I'm still crafting away. Mostly crochet to be exact. There have been so many babies, I just finished my 4th blanket in the past 2 months. The first one I'm dubbing Baby Blue Stripes blanket. I will write a new post with the pattern. It's pretty easy, just time consuming because it's worked in the round, but no holes, so it doesn't work up as quick.

This is the final blanket I did. I can write up a pattern if you guys are interested. It's called the Striped Shell blanket. It did take a while longer to do because the pattern is a little more challenging.

Misc Projects

Last year after Halloween Michael's had a sale on their ceramic pumpkins marked down to $5. SCORE! So I painted it black with orange and green accents for a modern flare.

I also had a backpack that had originally been a GO ARMY bag. Since the army logo is not my style, I painted it once before to cover it up. However, it was a very shotty paint job. So I glued black fabric over the previous design and repainted it in a rainbow-esque style. I added the safety pins to help secure the extra fabric, but I also like the look of them.

Normally I would deck out my phone with sparkles or rhinestones, but I was enjoying working with the puffy paint. I also found some awesome designs online, so I got creative with my phone case :)

I originally bought these shoes years ago, and they needed an update for the up and coming ball. I used Mod Podge and sparkles to give these shoes two coats. I also added a ribbon bow for extra detail.

R1: DC in 4th ch from hook. DC in next 10 ch. Ch 1, *DC, ch 1, DC, ch 1, DC, ch 1, DC, ch 1, 11 more DC*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the end of the row. Turn.

R2: Ch 3 and DC in next 10 st. Repeat from * to * until you reach the end of the row.

Repeat R2 until you are satisfied with the length. The width of the blanket is about 42".

So, I've been overly busy….school has made me busy to the point where it pretty much looked like a bomb went off in my apartment. That being said, I have had little time to do crafts. I have done a lot, including more crochet stuff. So here some of it is:

Made a bouquet out of pens with floral tape and fake flowers at the dollar store (PS: this really brightens up an office, and you don't lose your pens!)

Created this jewelry holder….cost $5 for plates and cups. This girl makes some pretty fantastic stuff, but here's the link:

A baby blanket made for one of the ladies at my internship. The pattern is called the "Basket Stitch Baby Blanket"…..really easy/quick pattern.

So everyone has been doing flower headband DIY's so I figured I would too!

A long time ago I saw someone use tshirt scraps to make sandals. These turned out better than expected.

These are actually those big buttons you find on bulky sweaters….now my earrings!

This is by far the coolest. We are going to a masquerade ball, but how do you get a mask that fits over glasses??? Well this one does! I made it with tulle and fabric paint and added jewels. Here is the link to that pattern:

This was a hat, done on a whim also. The pattern was a little confusing because of the way it was explained, but after catching the hang of it, it was easy.

Another whim. I made up this pattern too, I feel like it turned out really nice, and I don't hate doing a v-stitch anymore :)

This was not the best picture. But….I started out with a pattern, but then I ended up doing my own thing because the instructions were confusing. It doesn't talk about where the stitch markers go when you increase. It also seemed to require there to be stitch markers, in addition to the ones for increases when you were doing the trim, but it didn't seemed to be specified as to where they should have been put.

So I'm sure there are other things that I have done over the past couple months, but like I said….school had taken over my life, but I still tried to reply to comments/concerns. I would like to put up more patterns on here. Let me know what you think :) Thanks for reading!

Quick Pineapple Peacock Scarf

This was yarn I got from another sweater that I bought for a couple dollars from the thrift store. Pineapple Peacock Scarf

Note: Gauge is not important. Use a hook appropriate for thickness of yarn. Scarf is made by creating two separate pineapples and then attaching the yarn to one. The length with then be crocheted and the second pineapple will be attached at the end.

I wanted to get this done before it got too cold out. I may be able to still wear it hopefully this year. Very comfortable and warm. It is an adaptation of a Portuguese pattern. Yes, I said Portuguese and I didn't translate it. There was an illustration and it went from there. The yarn was originally a man's sweater that I unraveled that I got a a thrift store (yey for recycling!). Sorry for the not-so-good picture. I had a better one, but I accidentally deleted it :-(

Yes, I am still here. There has been a lot of things going on lately. I've moved back to the states to work on my master's degree....so that means I have to make space and finish up old projects, while making new ones to decorate my new apartment.

Next two pictures were from a project I started in November of last year. I finished it, but had difficulty with the sleeves so I just made them lacy. I ended up giving this to a friend because it was bulky for my small frame.

I purposely bought a pair of shoes at the thrift store for the purpose of glitterfying. I was so excited after I was done, I loved them! But I went out in them and the glitter and glue came off in big chunks. I was seriously disappointed in Modge Podge. So I am planning on attempting this again, but maybe using E6000 glue. It's supposed to be waterproof and rubberized, so if that doesn't work, I am not sure what will. Any other suggestions?

Summer Chain top I made. It worked up rather quickly, and I ended up making it a little smaller than the pattern originally asks, which worked out because it would have been way too big otherwise. I tried to contact the person who made the top, but she was unable to give me the pattern so I made it up (which took a couple days of trial and error). Here it is so far, and I just started yesterday. I just finished creating the sleeves, yey!

Painted nails with an ombre effect. I painted a base color and used highly pigmented eyeshadow on the tips. Then painted clear nail polish over it.

Late Easter egg dying. How to:

Take an egg and put it in a strainer. Drizzle a little white vinegar and roll around slightly in strainer. Let set for a couple minutes. Put a drop of food coloring on top of egg and roll around in the strainer until you're satisfied with marbelization. Let set for a couple minutes. Rinse egg and let dry.

Found this at the store and decided that it would be taken apart to be used for scrap yarn, probably a baby blanket for the Navy/Marine Relief Society. I started volunteering my time to make baby blankets since the beginning of February. I have made 5 so far, and still counting!
