You know when you finish a project and you have lots of other ideas but you just can't seem to pick one and run with it? Well, that was me! After finishing my Gelli Prints Project series I was looking for a new focus for my video today and thanks to the lovely Tania Ahmed I think I might have found it! DIY Stamp Carving is back on the agenda particularly as Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Carve December challenge is about to start!

VIDEO: Gelli Prints Project #4: Digital Gelli Prints and Hybrid Art Journal Page

I'm guessing that you are like me and like to make the most out of the art that you make don't you? I mean there is just so much you can do with it and I've shared ideas before like the blog post about turning your art journal pages into soft furnishings for your home or the one about making personalised stocking filler gifts (perfect for this time of year *wink *wink!). Well, as part of my Gelli Prints Project series I thought I would stretch the use of my monoprints and do a hybrid art journal page.

So today we are going partly digital and using some of my digital stamps from my Etsy shop with some digitalised gelli print papers as the focal point to a painted art journal page. So I have tips on how to scan your monoprints, how to add digital stamps to them in Photoshop Elements and also how to make a quick textured background with heavy body acrylic paint.

I've got another idea for using up your Gelli prints plus a super simple monoprinting technique AND a free template too! All in today's video! I know! You didn't expect that when you sat down to catch up with your blogs this morning did you?

So I have a little bit of a small envelope addiction, I think it might just be part of my whole issue with stationery. The issue being that I just can't get enough of it! Nope, there is no shortage of pens in this house, although can I find the one pen I want to use at any one time? ERr No! But that is another issue entirely. Today, let's focus on envelopes and monoprinting! (It has been a long week, can you tell?!).

I made these little envelopes, they are just slightly bigger than a gift card size, or small secret note size, and perfect for all sorts of projects and I have a few suggestions for you in my video. You will also find out how to get hold of the template to if you watch to the end!

As promised I am back with a project idea for using the Gelli prints I made in my last video. I thought it would be fun to use them to turn one of my Inktober sketches into a mixed media project. So I'm sharing my process for transforming this ink sketch into a mixed media collage.

I've got a bit of a fixation on these little houses on hill scenes that I've been drawing recently, so it was fun to use it as the inspiration for this project and to see what else I could do with it. And I hope that it inspires you to take one of your recent sketches and see what you can turn it into!

VIDEO: Quick Gelli Plate Printed Papers

A quick video today with a quick look at some quick Gelli Plate printed papers! I have some mixed media projects planned and they need some colourful papers, so what better way to make them than to get my Gelli plate out and do some monoprinting?! So that is what I did and I filmed some tips on using Gelli plates with heavy body acrylic paints because that is what I am using today!

If you haven't got a Gelli plate, or one of the other synthetic gel-based monoprinting plates on the market, then don't forget that I do have a blog post all about how to make a gelatin plate. Some of the techniques I share in today's video are specific for the synthetic plates but you will still pick up some great techniques for using on your DIY plate too!

VIDEO: Sketchbook Tour and mini vlog - Inktober 2017

Did you enjoy Inktober? Perhaps you joined in over on instagram or just enjoyed watching the art that was being produced by your favourite artist day after day through October? As many of you know I joined in too, in my small way, with this worldwide challenge started by Jake Parker and shared a daily ink sketch over on instagram. I wasn't sure if I was going to manage to keep going the whole month because, well it is hard isn't it?

So it was a surprise to me to get to the end of October without missing a day and well, yes it wasn't like I was sharing some of the more complex inking that many of the amazing artist do but I was still pleased with what I accomplished. So today, as requested by you guys, I have a tour video of my Inktober 2017 sketchbook with all the good days and bad days and the scribbles in between!

Some of my learning points from Inktober?

Well I definitely see some styles in my work coming through that I return to again and again.

Keeping going and posting is better than aiming for perfection, but this is a hard balance as you still have to remember that it represents you and maybe the only thing people see of your work before deciding if they want to see more or move on.

What I think will be popular on Instagram is totally different to what actually is popular on Instagram 😆

VIDEO: How To Use Reinkers In Your Art Journal

I am a big fan of getting the most out of your supplies, which I am sure you have guessed by now if you are one of my long term followers! So this week I thought I would get my Distress Reinkers out and use them to add colour to an art journal page. I mean there are just so many ways that you can use them aren't there?

So my video today is a process video showing how I put this page in my junk journal together. If you look closely you can see that I'm working on a textured surface. I think you can see more of the texture in the close-up photo below. Now, if you have ever tried to stamp on a textured surface then you will know how fraught with stamping fails it is! So I have also shown how I stamp using the MISTI on an art journal page. MISTIs aren't just for cardmaking and scrapbooking you know!

VIDEO: Drawing Meadow Flowers In Ink On Yupo

Sunday is a great day to do something creative if you have the time, so I thought, as it is Sunday I would share a video with you showing the process I went through drawing these meadow flowers. I'm hoping that it will set you up for your creative day and get you itching to work on your next project.

I'm working with a dip pen, or nib holder, and Indian ink again for this project just like I did for my watercolor and ink flowers video last weekend. But, this time instead of working on watercolor paper I am using the synthetic paper Yupo. I've already started this project with watercolor paint. And if you missed how to make a textured watercolor background like this then you might want to watch my 'How To Use Watercolor and Indian Ink On Yupo' video as well.

As you will hear in the video, I had not initially planned these flowers to be stylised, it is strange how our creative plans change and evolve throughout a project isn't it?

VIDEO: Ink Pad Art: Make The Most Of Your Ink Pads

I hope that you are ready to get inky today? Because I thought I would share another idea for getting the most out of your ink pads. Ink pads are a stampers 'must have' product but they are quite a versatile art material in their own right. A while back I shared a video showing How to Draw with Ink Pads, it is super fun to do and a perfect project to loosen you up and get you in the creative flow.

Today's project concentrates on making art with ink pads again, but this time I have some easy masking and stencil techniques to share. Plus I have some tips on how to get a great image using printing with your stamps rather than stamping. You will see what I mean in the video!

VIDEO: Watercolor and Ink Flower Drawing

How have you been getting on with your Inktober sketching? If you follow me on Instagram or you are part of my Creative Tips newsletter group then you will know that I've been doing a sketch per day and sharing as part of Inktober. I've really been doing my own thing and not following the official prompts but using it to generate sketch ideas, play with different styles and practice of course!

I have plans to work up some of my favourite sketches into other projects and I was hoping to encourage you to do the same thing. So today's video share is a process video for a watercolor and ink flower drawing that comes from my Day 18 sketch. I'm also testing out the Daniel Smith watercolor paints and if you scroll down below you can see a close up of the granulation you get with some of these watercolor paints, You can spot it in the picture above as well.

Anyway, enjoy the video and you will see what I mean about granulation once you have watched it! Oh and I share how to add the punchinella texture too!

That grainy texture in the photos is the granulation I'm going on about, you can see it really well in the Amethyst color along the bottom. Isn't it gorgeous?

VIDEO: How to Use Watercolor paint and Indian Ink on Yupo

If you watched my video last week then you would have seen that I was playing around with Yupo as one of the surfaces I was testing Distress Oxides on. It was such fun to be using the synthetic paper again, I hadn't used it for such a long time before last week, that I wanted to play with it some more. So here is another video with it and this time I am using it with watercolor paints and Indian ink and sharing the results and some tips on using it with these materials too.

I really love the textures you can get with Yupo and the way it makes the paint look bright and vivid. Have you been using ti? What materials have you tried with it and what do you enjoy doing with it? Or perhaps you haven't tried it yet? After seeing these videos do you think that you will?

I do have some other project ideas for using Yupo that I made for when I was working for Blitsy, like a resist technique to use on Yupo with watercolor and alcohol inks or the step by step for making Galaxy Art on Yupo with acrylic paint. VIDEO: How to Layer Gelatos Tutorial PLUS 6 Ways With Gelatos

I like using Faber-Castell Gelatos because they are so easy to use and quite versatile too, but they aren't the best at layering, well, they are if you want blended layers. But if you want distinct layers then I would not usually reach for Gelatos. If you find the same than I have a technique for you in this week's video that will overcome this issue and let you add as many Gelato layers without you want and without blending the layers all together.

So watch the video if you want to see how I do it and also to see the six different techniques I use to apply my Gelatos in just this one little mixed media canvas. VIDEO: Prismacolor Pencil Coloring tutorial And Etsy News!

I'm using Prismacolor pencils in my video today and sharing some tips and tricks on how to color with pencils along the way. But you don't have to just watch the video you can also coloring along with me as I have the very same image that I am coloring up in my Etsy shop ready to buy, download and print then colour with your pencils or your pens or whatever your favourite coloring medium is!

Yep, I have re-openned my Etsy shop! I thought it was about time that I did! So look out for new products over the next few weeks and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you! I've started with this Anemone flower image that I have been working on recently. You might have spotted it on my Instagram feed and also in my behind the scenes video on YouTube.

So it seemed like a good idea to do some coloring and make a video whilst I was at it! I've used two different techniques to colour the image, one to give a smooth finish and another to just add a little bit of texture, so I hope you enjoy it.

Can you see the stencil texture? That is just using heavy body acrylic paint. It is a lovely texture. You can also see some of the texture left over from a previous project where I cleaned paint off of some punchinella onto these pages.

VIDEO: Easy Watercolour Rainbow background And Flower Art

After last week's Autumnal journal page I thought I would jump straight back into Summer with a rainbow watercolor background and some flower art. I think I can not quite let go of the idea of Summer sun! I know, we have to move on with the season but it doesn't hurt to have a quick look back from time to time does it? Well this look back comes with a really easy technique for adding your own watercolor rainbows to your next painting or art journal project.

I am also trying out absorbent grounds this week and seeing how they work with the Hydrus watercolors. But don't worry if you don't have either because I share some tips on what else you can use to make this watercolor rainbow background.

VIDEO: Acrylic Paint Glazing And Tinted Gels and Paint Art Journal Page

I've been playing with acrylic glazing liquid this week and for my video tutorial I've used glazing in a way you might not be used to seeing it being used. Usually glazing is used in the latter stages of a painting project to shift the colour of a piece or unify and harmonise it. In my art journal page I've used it early on in the process to bring my tinted gel and paint stencil element together with the some old book page texture. I've also used it as a base to add more colour to. You can see all about it in the video and see how this page started too.

It kind of looks Autumnal doesn't it? But it was never my intention to make an Autumnal art journal page but the start of the new season here in the UK must have had a bigger influence on me than I had thought! VIDEO: 5 Art And Craft Hacks And Tips

New video time and this week I thought I would share five art and craft hacks that I use regularly in my creative work. Some of the hacks will save you money, some will save you time and then there is even an acrylic painting technique you will want to try in there too!

I try to recycle a lot into my work too so if you are a big recycler as well then there are some ideas to help you re-purpose your domestic waste in this bunch of five hacks too. I've been asked before about some of the items I use in my videos again and again, so if you have ever wondered what these things are that keep appearing in my videos and where you can get them, then this video may give you those answers!

VIDEO: How To Make A Textured Mixed Media Canvas Board With Die Cuts

You might not quite get it from the colours, I suppose I should have gone for something more honey-toned, but this week's project is actually bee-themed! It's a video 'how-to' showing all the stages for adding dimension and texture whilst recycling bits and pieces left over from previous projects.

The bee theme came from the Apple Blossom Hexagon Panel die that I have used to build this textured canvas board and if you saw my '5 Ways with Background Dies' video then you will know that I am pretty obsessed with this die at the moment! The reason why I went for these colours are...well, I will let you find that out for yourself when you watch the video! No spoilers here sweetie!

VIDEO: Easy Art Journal Page: Mandala Art

After last week's adventure into vlogging I am safely back with an art journal share for my video this week and an Easy Art Journal Page layout using Mandala art. You will want to watch the video all the way through as I have a top tip to help you to bring your journal pages together.

Last Thursday I started a few pages with some random additions of layers of acrylic paint, you can spot them in the vlog if you watch it. Adding layers of acrylic paint quickly and without thinking too much about it is a great way to just get started. Particularly when you have no actual finished journal page idea in your head to work towards.

This is one of those random pages but I didn't finish it on Thursday and I am quite glad that I didn't as I don't think I would have done this particular design that day. It came from nowhere on Saturday when I filmed a few more pages. But it makes you think, what design would it have been if I had finished it on Thursday?! We will never know.

I don't believe it! I have over 1000 subscribers over on YouTube! Thank you so much to all of you who watch my videos, subscribe to my channel and leave me comments and likes too, I really appreciate it and as a thank you I have had a go at my first VLOG-style video. Oh Boy!

The topic is a behind the scenes look-see into my freelance designer work day. Yesterday's (10th August 2017) workday actually! So if you have ever wondered what I do or perhaps you are interested in being a freelance designer too, then you might enjoy my video share today!

The Cameras I Film Videos With

So I will let you into a not so secret, secret! I use two cameras to film my videos and compared to many YouTubers they might be considered a bit Lo Tech! Let's just call them budget shall we? I have a rather old Canon IXUS 220HS, if you are in the US then it is called a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS. This is my main video camera.

Then I film my b-roll (get me with the filming lingo!) with my smartphone, which is a Motorola 4th Gen, yep, I am android! You can get this phone in the US as well if you are interested. So b-roll is things like my side shots and panning shots, where I move the camera over the art journal page for example. I also film my to camera roll, they are the shots of me jabbering on film, selfie-style, with my smartphone as it is just easier to be able to see myself and none of my other cameras have flip-out screens.

I didn't use my stills camera in the video but as we are talking cameras then you might like to know that my third (!) camera is the Canon sSLR 1000D which is sooooo old you can't even get it any more. But if you are looking for an entry-level dSLR then try the Canon EOS 1300D, or it is called the Canon EOS Rebel T6 in US. This newer model also shoots video so if you get this one you probably wouldn't need the point and shoot I suggest above, just this and your smart phone would be perfect!

It all really comes down to budget and if you are happy with tech. If you are on a tight budget and /or are a beginner and not used to dSLRs then a point and shoot might be a good way to get started. You can always sell it on later to upgrade!

The Cameras I Would Suggest IF You Have The Budget

I will upgrade eventually and I have my eye on a couple of cameras, the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II, which you can find under the same name in the US, and the Canon EOS 750D, which is called the Canon EOS Rebel T6i in the US. I only mention these here because if you have the money, and you want to invest in your video making, then it might be worth skipping the budget level and power up to the mid-range.

Let me know what cameras you are currently using and what cameras you have your eye on! I am always looking for suggestions.

Other Must Have Filming Accessories

You definitely need a tripod, I do not know what I would do without my tripod. Mine is just a no-frills Hama Star 61 Tripod, which I bought so many years ago, way before I even started blogging, What?! There was I time before blogging? Surely not?! If you are in the US, I could not find the exact same tripod but they had other Hama Stars for you.

Again, I am looking to upgrade to something that can do proper overhead angles, but I haven't quite decided what to upgrade to yet, it will depend on my studio space really. But shout if you would like some suggestions, I have my eye on some things!

I also use a Joby GripTight GorillaPod Stand, you can get this in the US too, to attach my Canon IXUS to my tripod, so if you are going for my non-budget suggestions then you might not need this. Although having a flexible mini-tripod is really, really useful, particularly for your b-roll footage. This tripod is fine for camera phones but if your second camera is anything heavier than a point and shoot you will need to get a bigger mini-tripod!

So my final video tech solution for the budget-conscious is a lighting solution. You might have noticed that I film my videos in front of a window. I do have some LED lights but natural light is always best. It's a south facing window so on days when the sun is out and the light is too strong I use a diffusing fabric, you can find it here if you are in the US, which I just thread over the roller blind when I need it.
