Valentines Day Heart Cake!

Hey guys! Today I have a little tutorial/picture slideshow of the cake I made today for my boyfriend Aaron! :) He had to work today, and we both have to do Valentine's Day cheap this year :( But this is where my creativeness comes in luckily! ;)

This is the outcome! What do you think?! It kind of reminds of me my childhood for some reason...maybe it's all the sprinkles!

Let me show you guys just how I made this cute little cake below!:)

What you will need:

1 box of Pillsbury Moist Supreme Yellow Cake Mix

2 containers Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Cream Cheese Frosting

Neon Food Coloring (Pink, Purple)

Sprinkles

And that's it! :)

So first of course I prepared the cake mix.

Bake the cake, I baked mine for 34 minutes at 350 degrees and it was perfect!

After pulling out the cake I placed it in the fridge to cool it down before frosting.

Sorry about not taking pictures of the frosting...I'm trying to get used to this whole blogging deal and I keep forgetting to take photos of my process! haha Forgive me! :)

After the cake is cooled, I pulled it out and cut out a heart shape from the center, but make sure to put aside the extra cake pieces from the edge, I do something with them at the end! :D

First I used about 3/4 of the first frosting container strictly for the heart shaped cake. I put in about 3-4 drops of the pink food coloring (you can put however many drops depending on how dark/light you want)

I frosted the whole cake with my light pink frosting. After, I used the rest of what was in the first frosting container and I dropped about 7-9 drops of pink food coloring to make it a bright pink/red. I used this as the border around the cake.

I then used the last frosting container for the purple, I used about 7-9 drops of the purple food coloring to make it brighter. I used this to write the words "I <3 YOU" you can write whatever you want here :)

I also used the rest of the purple for the sides of the cake.

Finally I sprinkled around the border, in the heart, and on the sides of the cake to top it all off.

And there you have it!

Your Valentines cake! And it tastes so good! :) Promise!

Oh, and if you want to know why I kept the extra cake bits was for.....

Great idea right?! I thought about it...and I really wanted to put them on shish kabob sticks, but I didn't have the sticks for them! So I figured this would have to do....yummy! :)

"Dirty & Clean" Dishwasher Sign!

HAVE YOU GUYS EVER THOUGHT OF THIS?! :D

Hey guys! This short 'tutorial' will show you a few pictures of this "Dirty & Clean" Dishwasher sign idea! This is my 'fast, just thought of this, must try it now' version of the sign. I plan on making it much nicer with ribbon to hold it, and thicker paper if not maybe wood or plastic?! Who knows! Just keeping my mind open. I thought it was a fun, cute and creative way to answer everyone's question "Are the dishes in the dishwasher clean?"

I've thought about just using a dry erase board, my boyfriend's parent's do that in their home, but I don't think anyone would actually take the time to write clean or dirty on it every single time they load the dishwasher, so I really like this 'flip' method!

I also want to laminate it so it won't ever get wet and rip! I mean seriously...it's attached to the dishwasher, it's bound to get hit by water a couple of times! ;)

If you want to know what I did step by step, here it is...so simple! :)

Items:

3 Pieces of Printer or Graph paper

1 1/2 ft. of thread or yarn

1 pack Sharpie Markers Assorted Colors fine point or ultra fine point

1 pack of Cellophane tape

1 medium sized magnet

1 small hook

1 small key ring

I started off by simply writing Dirty and Clean on two pieces of paper. I then placed the third piece of paper in between the two pieces of paper written on, I had them facing out. I taped them together and taped the around the edges to secure. I punched out two holes out of each corner and tied a knot with the thread in both holes. Finally I hung up the hanging piece before placing it on the hook.

I turn it over onto the clean side every time I start the Dishwasher.

Hope this helped, after I remake this project with nicer results and more time put into it, I'll be sure to post it and make an actual tutorial with photos to help explain more!

Crochet Rocks!

OH MY GOSH! Okay, just how cute are these little guys?! :D
I just fell in love with them, I came across them last night on Pintrest and I knew I just had to let you guys know about it!

I love the way they look, gives you some sort of vintage feel, or that you're near the beach!

I'm still a novice when it comes to crocheting, but I love the way it looks, so lately I have been looking more into it and I have been watching some tutorials on Youtube.
I guess my biggest problem is I can't read direction on the loops haha it's like reading another language for me!

My grandma would be amazing at this project, she crochets all the time! At least for as long as I can remember, she tried teaching me when I was a lot younger, I was about 6 or 7 and she just did NOT have the patient to help me learn! haha!

If any of you crocheters' are interested in trying out this crafty DIY idea, please please please send and share me a picture of how it came out! I'd love to see how it looks! :)

A little about me to start this off...

Hey everybody! To start off this new blog, I'd like for whoever to read this blog to kind of get an idea of who the person is behind the words! :)

My name is Dakota, and I am here to tell you about all the really fun crafts I plan on doing SOON! :) There are many crafts I have finished but never took photos in the making, or have gotten ruined since then...due to the animals in my household! haha

I am 19 years old, I live with my boyfriend, our dog and cat (practically like our 2 children!) I live up in Washington State so the weather of course is not always that great, but I've dealt with it my whole life! No biggy!

I am currently trying to pursue College after my HS graduation last year, CLASS OF 2011! :D Which very little luck, and it's just all so confusing for me.

I enjoy the three simple tings...Smiling, Dancing, and Singing. The last two I definitely do not do professionally, but goodness I love it, it helps me release all my stress!
