Cinnamon with a Twist in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex Area!

I hope everyone's getting ready for the big holiday weekend.

I know I'm looking forward to a few days off.

Well, my dear readers, my weekend started out with some Cinnamon with a Twist here in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex area!

Cinnamon Wright came to the area to pick up our mutual friend, ActiveRain's very own Roger "Shaken, with a Twist" Mucci, who is visiting Cinnamon and a bunch of other Rainers in the Wilmington, NC area!

I picked Roger up at the airport this morning, and after a bit of touring my home town, we met Cinnamon at the State Farmer's Market.

Now I'm not able to attend their little meet up, but I did manage to enjoy my brief time with Cinnamon and Roger... and, of course, get in a photo with them to commemorate our meeting...

Well, my dear readers, you've cast your votes, and after a few voter fraud and hanging chad issues, I think we've got this all figured out.

For those of you who voted, I thank you.

For those of you who didn't, here's a brief synopsis...

And, you can see the original post here.

While showing homes here in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex area, my client and I received a most unexpected surprise...

Now I don't care if you're Chuck Norris, or Xena the Warrior Princess, when you're not expecting to see a 5 foot long snake as the welcome mat, it can bring on some strange reactions.

And strange reactions it did!

Here are the results of the poll...

Now, for those of you who voted that I wet myself, or that I hid behind my client, or screamed and ran away... I'll deal with you later!

For those of you who voted that I slayed the evil beast, hopefully this was the picture that went through your mind when you cast that vote!!!

What really happened on that fateful day only 32% of you got it correct!

We said, "Screw it. We're out of here!"

But, my friends, I can assure you it wasn't because we were afraid of the snake. We left without going inside because the house was on a main road with just a little too much traffic noise for this particular client to call it home.

No, really! That was the reason! I swear it! I did leave feedback for the listing agent, as I always do, but didn't reference the snake. However, I received this feedback on one of my listings some time ago, and can totally understand why now!

Happy Mother's Day!

Hi Mom,

What do you mean who is this?

It's your son, Craig. You know the one. I'm the guy who doesn't call you often enough. The one who doesn't tell you how much I appreciate all that you've done for me. The one who gets all weird and uncomfortable telling people, and you too, how much I love them.

Remember the last time I called? No? I do. When I asked how you were, you told me that you haven't eaten in three days. And when I asked why you said it was because if I did happen to call you didn't want to have your mouth full! Now do you remember?!!

Well, anyway mom, I just wanted to wish you a...

Happy Mother's Day!

And, I wanted to tell you that I love you. And that I miss you. And that I hope to come visit sometime soon so I can say it to you directly and not just on the phone.

And I promise that the next time I come visit I won't activate my "Guilt Deflector Shield" before I walk through your door. And I'll even break my self imposed rule and let you begin a sentence directed at me with the words, "You know you should..."!!!

What? Yes, I'm eating healthy. No, I'm not putting on a sweater because YOU'RE cold! Yes, I'll call my sister to wish her a Happy Mother's Day too....

And, YES, I know I should dress nicer, smile more, try new foods, use coupons, take vitamins, see the doctor regularly, fold socks instead of just throwing them in the drawer.....

Well, I'm No George Clooney. But, You Are Cordially Invited...

The other night, actor George Clooney opened the doors of his home to some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

The party was a fundraiser for President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign for re-election.

Now I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat; an Independent or a Communist. Well, actually I do, but I won't get into any politics here.

That's not what this post is about. What this post is about is the cost of that little dinner bash... $40,000.00 a plate!

That's FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS a plate folks!

Well, I don't know know about you, but when the wait staff came to my side of the table and asked, "Will you be having the chicken or the beef tonight, sir?" my answer would simply be, "YES!"

Anyway, back to the point of my post...

OK, although you can see the obvious resemblances, I'm really no George Clooney! And I'm certainly not in a position to compete with him.

But, I'm throwing it out there for you nonetheless, my dear readers.

For $40,000.00, next Saturday night, I will personally open the doors of my home and cook you dinner! You can have your choice of...

No, wait. You don't have to choose.

For 40 large you can have BOTH the chicken AND the beef!

And for dessert you can have BOTH the Entenmann's pound cake AND a scoop of vanilla ice cream! And to wash it all down, you can have ALL the water you want straight from the tap!

Don't worry that this won't be a classy event for that kind of price tag either.

I just raided all the local Raleigh, Cary, Apex area Arby's restaurants and have all the napkins, plastic forks, knives and spoons you could ever use in one sitting!

And, you can even take them with you when you're done!

Now, admittedly, I've not had the success in my life that George Clooney has.

So my house isn't as big as his palatial estate.

But, albeit modest, I have a lovely home and I'm willing to

cram, er, accommodate about 100 of you in it!

This once in a lifetime event will be on a first response basis.

So don't waste time thinking about it.

Please make out your checks, certified funds only please, to the

Craig Rutman Early Retirement Fund!

Oh, and please bring your own beer. I'm all out right now!

Formal/ Casual/ No/ Attire Requested.

Come join the fun this Saturday as the Town of Cary, North Carolina in conjunction with the Heart of Cary Association and Amtrak play host to Downtown Cary's first ever National Train Day Event!

NATIONAL TRAIN DAY ROLLS INTO DOWNTOWN CARY

Come join the fun this Saturday and celebrate Downtown Cary’s first ever National Train Day event.

The Heart of Cary Association in partnership with Amtrak and the Town of Cary will host National Train Day at the Downtown Railroad Station. This is the first year National Train Day has ever been held in Cary, and this is just the start of something that's sure to be big!

Festivities begin at 10AM and continue throughout the day.

Train Whistles to be given to the first 200-children who attend, and Amtrak will be handing out Conductor Hats to all visitors. There will be free tours offered of the 1868 building, a former railroad hotel and attendees can learn all about Cary’s railroad history from a guide dressed in 19^th century period costumes.

The following is an excerpt of the press release from the Town of Cary describing the day's events:

"Amtrak plans to provide railroading coloring books and crayons to visitors as well as showing videos of their history, rolling stock and other daytrip destinations up-and-down the line. They are also sponsoring a drawing for a free family-of-four train getaway to anywhere on the East Coast Amtrak travels."

"National Train Day is a holiday started by Amtrak in 2008 as a method to spread information to the general public about the advantages of rail travel and the history of trains in the United States. It is held each year on the Saturday closest to May 10th, the anniversary of the pounding of the Golden Spike in Promontory Summit, Utah (1869) which marked the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. Events are held at Amtrak stations as well as railroad museums across the country and often have passenger cars and model railroad layouts on display. The largest events usually take place in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA."

Maurice Sendak, Mischievous Max... and Me.

As you may or may not know, Maurice Sendak, author and illustrator of such books as "Where the Wild Things Are", "In the Night Kitchen" and "Chicken Soup With Rice" passed away a few days ago.

He was 83. And he will be missed.

Now I don't know about you, but I absolutely loved "Where the Wild Things Are", especially the illustrations.

I remember reading that book a gazillion times as a child, and I can't help but to think that it was Sendak's illustrations that inspired me to draw, and now Photoshop.

Oh, and I always wanted to be Mischievous Max and run around in that wolf suit he sported in "Where the Wild Things Are".

And now, through the miracle of Photoshop, I can!

Thank you Maurice Sendak.

May you rest in peace...

Last night while I was enjoying a disturb-free evening watching my New York Rangers win a big game, Amy Hahn was at home with her hubby Roger watching.... are you ready? T.J. Hooker!

I didn't even know you could watch that show anymore! But, apparently, being the successful Crystal Coast Real Estate agent that she is, the Hahn household has the deluxe cable package!

Well, anyway, Amy posted a comment on my Facebook wall that said, "Rog and I are watching TJ Hooker and for some reason we thought of you".

Was it because William Shatner is my hero?

Was it because Heather Locklear was my co-star in that series?

All these years, I've always thought that the 5th of May was the official Mexican Independence Day, much like our 4th of July.

But according to the web site History.com, the 5th of May is NOT Mexican Independence Day.

It is, however, a day of celebration in Mexico and the United States as well.

So no matter what the history books might say....

For me, this is the most exciting part of this award ceremony, when we announce the First Place Winner of the "Be The 'Star' Of Your Own Movie" Contest. Can it get more exciting after Debb Janes and Jeff Reynolds? We shall see..........

You've got to admit, that performance we just saw is a tough act to follow. How about that Craig Rutman in a pair of tights! Superman really was the "man of steel". My heart was beating out of my chest when he was swinging from the rafters with that big "S" on his chest and that red cape flying behind him................yeah, he does deserve another round of applause.......thank you, thank you! Craig..............oh quit blushing, you're the one that asked if you could wear that outfit tonight. It beats the shrunken tux you had on earlier.

Back to School! Your Raleigh, Cary, Apex Area Real Estate Agent Will Be in Continuing Education Today...

Here in North Carolina, and many states throughout the United States, Real Estate agents are required to take mandatory continuing education classes. While many agents just take the minimum required courses, I have always had a thirst for knowledge, and often take more than what is required.

I've always been a firm believer that the more you know, the better you can be.

So, my phone will be off for a few hours as I'm going back to school!

Apex Peak Fest Saturday May 5th, 2012

Don't forget folks...On Saturday, May 5th, 2012, our little town of Apex, North Carolina will hold it's annual "Peak of Good Living" celebration, the Apex Peak Fest!

Peak Fest originally started out in a school parking lot and has grown to be such a grand event that hundreds of vendors and over 25,000 people attend every year. Salem Street, our version of Main Street, USA, is closed to traffic as clowns and magicians entertain the little ones, food and crafts vendors line the streets, and bands play throughout the day. All your typical festival food is readily available and children can enjoy the KidZone area that's filled with rides and games.

It's truly one of the many family friendly events sponsored by the Town of Apex and every year it just seems to get better and better.
