Hoist cranes are often used in industrial settings for lifting and moving heavy loads, and regular maintenance helps prevent breakdowns, reduces downtime, and minimizes the risk of accidents. Here’s an outline of key maintenance practices:

1. Daily Inspections

Perform pre-operation inspections to identify potential issues before using the crane. Focus on:

Hooks: Check for cracks, deformations, or signs of wear.

Wire Ropes/Chains: Look for fraying, kinking, corrosion, or other damage.

Brakes: Ensure they function properly and can hold loads securely.

Control Systems: Test buttons, switches, and remotes for responsiveness.

Limit Switches: Verify that they stop the hoist at the correct height.

2. Lubrication

Lubricate all moving parts (e.g., wire ropes, bearings, gears) as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Use the correct type of lubricant to prevent excessive wear and rust.

3. Mechanical Inspections

Gears and Bearings: Inspect for abnormal wear or misalignment.

Load Chains: Ensure there is no elongation beyond the recommended limits.

Fasteners: Tighten loose bolts, nuts, and other components.

4. Electrical System Checks

Inspect for frayed wires, loose connections, or exposed cables.

Test the motor and control panels for overheating or unusual noise.

Check the condition of fuses, relays, and circuit breakers.

5. Hoist Load Testing

Periodically conduct load tests to ensure the crane can lift and hold its rated capacity safely. Follow local regulations or manufacturer guidelines for frequency and procedure.

6. Cleaning

Remove dust, debris, and grease buildup from the crane components.

Keep the tracks and surrounding areas free of obstructions.

7. Preventive Maintenance Schedule

Follow a maintenance schedule based on the crane's usage frequency and environmental conditions:

Weekly/Monthly Maintenance: More detailed inspections of hoist components, lubrication, and adjustments.

Quarterly/Semi-Annual Maintenance: Comprehensive inspections involving electrical systems, gearboxes, and structural integrity.

Annual Maintenance: Full inspection by a certified professional, including a detailed load test.

8. Operator Training

Ensure crane operators are trained to recognize warning signs of malfunction and understand the importance of reporting issues immediately.

9. Documentation

Maintain a logbook of all inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements. This is essential for:

Identifying recurring issues.

Complying with regulatory requirements.

Scheduling future maintenance.

10. Signs of Immediate Attention

Stop using the crane and seek immediate repairs if you notice:

Unusual noises during operation.

Jerky or inconsistent movement.

Visible damage to key components like hooks, wire ropes, or the hoist drum.

Key Tip: Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and local safety regulations for maintenance. Partnering with certified technicians or service providers ensures that your hoist crane remains in optimal condition.

Maintenance hoist crane

Protect and maintain your material handling and lifting equipment with our tailored preventative maintenance services.

Our skilled technicians will come to see you at your convenience in
order to inspect your equipment. We can schedule quarterly, semi-annual,
or annual inspections. While there, we may be able to combine OSHA
recommended safety training along with the inspection.

At the end of your inspection, you will be supplied with a copy of
your inspection report. This will convey important information such as
what needs to be replaced, and what to expect in the coming months.

During the Preventive Maintenance inspection, we take the time to adjust
the brakes and fine-tune the minor adjustments to your equipment. A
quality Crane Preventative Maintenance Program, such as one that we
provide, is recommended and well worth your consideration. We want to
help you protect your investment in your overhead cranes, your jib
cranes, and your hoists so that you get quality longevity and quality
production from your material handling equipment.

Let's face it, time is money. The more time you are down the more money
you are losing. Our Preventative Maintenance Program is designed to
identify things that fail as well as potential problems. This low cost
service will keep your cranes and hoists running properly with much less
risk of downtime. The money you will save on costly repairs when
something breaks that could have been prevented will more than make up
for the cost. Not to mention little if any downtime.

But do we ever really think about what happens between the 2 hooks?

If you are an operator, you have probably been trained to understand forces. A load in motion exerts greater forces than a static or non-moving load. Load position and hoisting speed affect the magnitude of these forces, which can be measured in excess of 200%. This alone should be sufficient to make us more cautious when using overhead lifting equipment.

But what if I told you the forces mentioned above are overshadowed by the force we see in the inter-link of our load chain? The contact area where 2 links touch is only .006 inch. With a one ton static load on the hoist, pressure between links can be as high as 500,000 pounds per square inch. If this is not enough to open your eyes, think of a stage using (12) 1 ton hoists each performing a 40 foot lift. We have 6500 working links, each one subjected to 1/2 million PSI. Moving the load increases this pressure. Imagine the amount of friction and resulting heat.

Is lubrication on the load chain really necessary?

Speed Hoist electric rope

Our D-SH SpeedHoist electric rope winch provides you with fast, convenient and precise load handling. It is used for loads up to 80 or 160 kg and offers variable lifting speeds up to 70 m/min. This may be because their boss have not told them of its importance and is not allowing them to be part of these things. It might also be because these operators are just relying on their experiences in that field of work and very much confident of what they know about. These reasons, among others, are sometimes the primary causes of accidents that might have been prevented if only the owner and operators have listened and considered the good that electric hoist crane training can do.Electric hoist crane trainings is made especially for the operators of these machines. In these trainings, they are taught ways on how to handle their machine properly and how to avoid it from causing damages to the persons, its load and other equipments.

When asked if owners or businesses have trained their electric hoist crane operators, the usual answer that these people give is that there are no more trainings required since the operators have already learned a lot from their past experiences. By being stubborn and refusing to give out trainings to electric hoist crane operators, it would be later on that these owners will realize the mistake that they have made.

Operating electric hoist crane is not something that you can learn easily. It is also not something that you can read from manuals and expect everything to work smoothly from there. There are a lot of issues involve in the operation of hoists. One of the issue that is being focused much on is safety. The word lifting itself is very dangerous in all its aspects. What more if it is put into practice and involves heavy load and many lives.

Since loads are being lifted very high up in the air, it is only natural that the damage will be severe in case of any accident or negligence. This is why operators should be made confident of what they are doing and what they are capable or not capable of. In the training, operators are introduced to the many aspects and features of the electric hoist crane. They should know about every detail and remember all of its important screws and parts. They will also gain knowledge about heights and weights since this will play a big part of their operation.

Another important thing that electric hoist crane operators are taught about is how to anticipate hazardous situations. You will not be able to tell what is a difficult or dangerous situation unless you are put on the spot. When this happens, they should be able to make a sound decision on what they should do next to avoid further damage or injuries.

These are what trainings should be about. They should not only focus on the machine and the operator. Capabilities, safety and decision making should also become a big part in the training so that unfortunate things will be prevented. The next time someone answers negative to giving out trainings for their electric hoist crane operators, it would be wise to point out some of the bad things that might happen if ever they do not undergo relevant trainings.

Who know one of the things learned in electric hoist crane trainings might even save a life or two.

Hoist system

* Reuters is not responsible for the content in this press release.

Dannemora Mineral has signed a contract with ABB for the delivery, installation and commissioning of a new hoist system for the Dannemora Mine. The system is one of the key components in the completion of the Dannemora mine and will transport the ore from a depth of almost 600 metres up to the head frame. From there the ore will be transported to the sorting plant on conveyor belts. The capacity is around 500 tonnes per hour and it will be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

"ABB's business unit Mining in Sweden is the most experienced supplier of hoist systems to the mining industry," says Staffan Bennerdt, President and CEO of Dannemora Mineral. "The lead times for this type of equipment are long and we have selected ABB on the basis of their expertise and experience to deliver, install and commission the plant within the tight time frames set for this part of the investment project."

The hoist system is projected for an annual capacity of 3.3 million tonnes of crude ore from the mine.
JHECO, part of the Juffali Group, is one of the largest commercial enterprises in Saudi Arabia with interests in power generation, construction, insurance, telecommunication, vehicle manufacture and distribution. Street Crane, based in Derbyshire in the UK, manufactures and is a major exporter of hoists and components for overhead cranes. The new appointment gives them a significant presence in the growing Middle East market.

Under the agreement JHECO will use Street Crane’s hoists and major electro-mechanical system with heavy structural elements fabricated in the JHECO factory. Sales director Gus Zona commented, “The Middle East, and the Gulf states in particular, are major users of Street Crane hoist equipment, but to date we have had no representation in Saudi Arabia. We are pleased to have such a high profile partner who is deeply involved in manufacturing infrastructure and industrial development of the Kingdom.”

The Juffali Group have a policy of partnering with world class suppliers and already have collaborative ventures with Daimler-Benz, Carrier, Ericsson, Siemens and other leading international companies. There are also other synergies in the agreement; both Street Crane and the Juffali Group are privately owned family-led businesses that have been trading successfully for over 60 years. The agreement with JHECO brings the world-wide network of Street Crane partners to 44.

(openPR) - Juffali Heavy Equipment Company (JHECO), based in Jeddah, and Street Crane Company from the UK have joined forces to produce cranes of up to 200 tonnes for industrial undertakings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Breaking News Alerts subscription

You have been registered to or your subscription details have been altered
for AlertNet's News alerts subscription list.
If you did not do so, please unsubscribe at http://www.alertnet.orgARRAY(0xb7340c)
Regards,
AlertNet
This email was sent to you by Thomson Reuters, the global news and information company.
Any views expressed in this message are those of the individual sender, except where the sender specifically states them to be the views of Thomson Reuters.

Radioa and Wired Controls

Advanced Crane & Hoist Services, Inc. carries many options for crane & hoist controls, parts, and accessories. The device incorporates a sturdy chain and pulleys, among other features. Powered by electricity, the chain hoist is an excellent aid when you need to get heavy jobs done easily. Various models are available on the market with a wide price range. Some chain hoists have more features than others, but any model is an efficient tool where heavy work is involved. Like with most electrical equipment, you should practice some safety measures when you work with a chain hoist. Below are six tips.

Check the Chain Hoist before You Operate

You must ensure all features are in good working condition before operations commence. Pay extra attention to the breaks and other controls. If you notice anything amiss, make the necessary adjustments. Should you detect any signs of wear and tear or other defects, do not proceed with use until all necessary repairs have been done. Never overlook a thorough check, which can help avert a serious accident.

Securely Attach All Loads

Loads must be securely attached onto the hook and reflect a good balance. Loads that are not well-slung can cause an accident in the course of your work. It is better to lower the load and adjust it so it hangs properly. You must place the load in a middle position underneath the hoist. Do not stand underneath the hoist when it is loaded, whether the machine is in motion or not. If you have other people with you when you work, be sure the hoist doesn’t carry loads over them. Do not ride on loads at any time. Avoid overloading the chain hoist because the machine may not cope with the load. If a load drops, it could result in much damage or an accident.

Handle the Hoist Properly

Be sure the load chain has a clear path as it operates. Obstructions will disrupt the flow of work.

Avoid lowering the chain to its maximum tension level. The higher level of stress could trigger an accident.

Do not touch the machine parts that have live electricity running through. You could get electrocuted.

Lubricate Your Chain Hoist Regularly

Maintain a regular lubrication schedule for your chain hoist. A well-lubricated hoist works smoothly and efficiently. It is also less likely to jam and disrupt work. When regularly oiled, the chain hoist will keep in good working condition for a longer time.

Comply with Warning Labels

Warning labels carry vital safety information. Keep these labels clearly visible. In the course of work, a quick look at the labels helps keep you on track. Do not remove the labels at any time. If the labels get obscured at some point, be sure to adjust them so they are in full view.

Conduct Regular Inspections

It pays to have your chain hoist inspected once every 6 months, or sooner if you use it frequently. Regular inspections ensure the machine is in good working condition. On the other hand, unsafe operating equipment exposes you to increased danger. If you don’t inspect the chain hoist on a regular basis, you may not know when it has become unsafe

Black Bear wire Rope hoists

Black Bear manufactures a complete line of manual lever hoists, chainblocks, electric chain hoists, and electric wire rope hoists, including monorail hoists, base-mount hoists, top-running trolley hoists, and reducing gears.
BMW was experiencing their largest bottle neck in the production of the X5 sport utility vehicle in one of the manual weld floor pan stations. This bottle neck was a result of the time it took the existing equipment to grab, clear, rotate, release and index the skid. MHS LLC was proposed to provide a conveyor assembly that would lift, clamp, and rotate the skid without any hand off between the conveyor and rotating mechanism being necessary.
The result is the fully integral clamping and rotating conveyor shown below. This conveyor was built and tested in our shop. The conveyor was installed approximately two years ago and has had no down time. The conveyor solution reduced the index time of this station by 22 seconds. Since BMW's index time is less than two minutes you can understand the impact this had on their through put.
Another benefit Material Handling Solutions offers to our customers it one of the largest depots of replacement electric chain hoist. MHS-LLC has just launched a quick electric chain hoist quoting system on its website. This gives industrial professionals the ability quickly and economically source replacement parts for any manufacture of hoist, crane components, and material handling equipment.
A wide range of travelling trolleys are also available in either double or monorail version with standard and low headroom when using the electric wire rope hoists.
Electric wire rope hoists are available in the following four standard versions:
Version 1 with 2 rope falls for capacities from 800kg to 10,000kg
Version 2 with 4 rope falls for capacities 1,000 kg from 20,000kg
Gearbox (1)
The 2 or 3-stage planetary gear reduces the speed of the electric motor to the rpm necessary for the drum. All gears of the planetary
gear are made of heat-treated high quality steel.
Electric Brake Motor (2)
Three-phase asynchronous 1 or 2 speed motor with cone rotor and integrated cone brake driven by a coil spring. The brake release is due to the sliding
of the rotor after switching-on of the power supply.
Rope Guide (3)
The rope guide basically consists of two parts: a guide ring and a pressure.Spring that properly guide the rope on
the drum grooves. The guide ring maintains the rope in position during the uncoiling, preventing it comingoff the groove
Load Limiter(4)
All "M" series hoists with 2 and 4 rope falls are equipped with a load limiter with 2 reaction thresholds. The load limiter
consists of an electricmechanical system with preset springs acting on two microswitches located in the auxiliary circuit.
Low Headroom Trolleys(5)
Low headroom trolleys are equipped with 2 travel units, consisting of planetary gears with double speed brake motors
directly flanged to the wheels, therefore without external teeth.
