Johnny wrote me a love letter on Sunday night and put it in my laptop bag for me to find when I got to work on Monday morning. I was surprised and delighted when I saw it sitting on top of my laptop. It wasn’t my birthday or our anniversary so the letter was completely unexpected. After reading the letter, I was in the best mood for the rest of the day. I lived the day knowing that I am loved.

This got me thinking…why don’t I live every day like I am loved? I have a Father in heaven who loves me all the time. And I have a love letter from him that sits on my nightstand that I avoid reading. Why?

As usual, this brought a song into my head. My mom was the Children’s Worship Director at my church growing up so we listened to music all the time. And I think that I know every Donut Man song by heart…they are all in my head somewhere and always seem to pop up when I least expect it. It is these simple truths like ‘God loves me’ that I seem to forget the most often.

Love Letter by Rob Evans

Chorus

It’s a love letter from God to me

It’s a love letter from A-Z

It’s a love letter that you can read

And it’s called the B-I-B-L-E

And it’s called the B-I-B-L-E

God loves you, you know that it’s true,

the story gets better, I read it in a letter

You can listen to a clip on the Donut Man website

Note: If you have young children and have never listened to the Donut Man cds..they are oldies but goodies and definitely worth a listen.

This year we are reading He Loves Me!: Learning to Live in the Father’s Affection by Wayne Jacobsen. So grab a copy of the book and a few friends and start reading!

On August 16th join us for a special evening of dessert and coffee at the church. We will briefly discuss the book but spend most of our time hearing what God did in our lives as a result of spending regular time with other women and God’s word.

In the Valley

Words and music by Bob Kauflin
As recorded on Valley of Vision

Lyrics

When You lead me to the valley of vision
I can see You in the heights
And though my humbling wouldn’t be my decision
It’s here Your glory shines so bright
So let me learn that the cross precedes the crown
To be low is to be high
That the valley’s where You make me more like Christ

Let me find Your grace in the valley
Let me find Your life in my death
Let me find Your joy in my sorrow
Your wealth in my need
That You’re near with every breath
In the valley

In the daytime there are stars in the heavens
But they only shine at night
And the deeper that I go into darkness
The more I see their radiant light
So let me learn that my losses are my gain
To be broken is to heal
That the valley’s where Your power is revealed
