Living Room Remodel

Doesn't it just make you feel happy?!!?!?!?

Paint color: Worldly Grey- Sherwinn Williams at 50% intensity, however if I could repaint I would do 75% intensity! White everywhere is Sherwinn Williams- Alabastor White. We got the flooring at Home Depot.

My sweet hubby installed my shiplap wall!!! It has the ceiling at a point so he had to make a lot of angle cuts. We used a staple gun to adhere it to the wall, when painting I filled some of the nails in, but left some to add character.

The piano I painted is the focal point of the room, it makes it so bright and cheerful!

For the Shiplap wall we used the thinnest/ cheapest underlayment we could find and cut it into strips.

Love the barn gate my husband made, adds the right tough and safety at the same time! Also the window bench he also built, great storage and extra seating.

Hamilton Plaid Adorableness!

I love this picture, because I love this girl, and because I love my Shiplap...in a future post! She is wearing a hamilton plaid jumper from Zulily, it was a size 5/6 and she's tall so in the future I would have ordered a bigger size because she is probably going to grow out of it soon. It buttons up the back and has cute buttons on the front. It also adds a change of pace to her wardrobe. Add a white collared shirt, white tights, and a navy blue jacket with the sparkle shoes!

Hair style is done in 3 sections of pony tails, think of a U shape as you part. Once you have them all secured together add a bow!

Cardigan Sweater!

I absolutely Love this navy blue cardigan sweater from Children's Place! So versatile, on the other hand this one was not very happy about going to school today...

But we made the most of it, cute khaki stretch skinny pants with an adorable navy blue belt from walmart. White button blouse- staples. Today's hair is simple because we were late, this is happening more and more lately haha. Topsy turvey to the side secure with a pony tail, add a bow, bows fix everything!

Because Preschool also deserves a post!

My second little darling was excited to share her outfit! topsy turvey sections are done in a pin wheel around the head with a side part. Take a pony tail section secure with ponytail then stick your finger in the middle and pull the hair through- that's a topsy turvey- my own name for I guess. Take all the sections and secure to the side, wrap the pony tail a few times then on the last time only pull half way with the hair coming out on top, then add a cute bow!

Star purses are so in for preschoolers ;)

Happy Kids, Happy Mom!

Does it seem like I do a lot of up styles? Well my kids get baths at night so morning there hair looks a little bit crazy! Today we are including topsy turvey, section off one on each side of the head- symmetrical or be crazy and do some Asymmetrical! Brush back into a pony tail and secure, then braid and secure. This style to make it look polished needs to be sprayed with water and then sprayed with hairspray, a lot of hairspray!

This happy girl was so excited because she got to wear a navy blue skirt! haha just kidding probably because she has a yummy snack in that back pack. Navy skirt I picked up at a garage sale! Wahoo score! Button up blouse from Children's place, white tights and sparkly shoes make a girl smile!

Quick morning fixer!

A navy blue head band is a must have, we use this a lot! Woke up late...pull hair back into a pony, braid and secure at the end- top off with a cute head band and magically it looks like you spent more time than you did! Worn with Navy blue polo from Target, Khaki Jumper from Zulily (they have the best deals on uniforms!) Boots with a little frill- okay they don't match very well, but sometimes you have to give in to what the kiddos want.

Over slept, but I did lay the outfit out the night before!

Today's outfit: White button blouse with a sparkle light blue jacket tucked into khaki pleated skirt. Top off with knee highs and sparkle blue shoes!

This hair style is a parted rectangle on top, french braid and continue braiding down the strand, secure and gather all of the hair into a pony tail---for all of you crazy paced moms in the morning, this one is quick!

Khaki Jumper

A Khaki Jumper with belt & pleats is the perfect cute/ comfy combo! Say that 10 times fast. Layered underneath is a white polo. I found this jumper on Zulily and got the polo at Target.

I can't get enough of these knee high socks! White with embroidered hearts, the perfect accessory to any jumper! I got the socks at Children's Place. Finished off with you guessed it, sparkly silver flats from Walmart.

To get the hair: Start with parting the hair on the side. Make sure the hair in front is wet, braids are so much easier that way. Section off hair from the top of the head to just behind the ears on the side with the bigger part. French braid until you get to the end of the section, continue braiding down the strand and secure with a pony tail. On the smaller side of the part, or the left side in this picture you are going to french braid only picking up from the bottom. Braid all the way around the head to the side, pull the loose braid in as well and secure in a pony tail. Add a flower to dress it up!

** To make this cute red bow: Buy Red Satin material, must be satin to burn correctly. Cut into different sizes of circles. Use a candle and burn the edges until it crinkles in. Glue the pieces together with hot glue, I always have random jewels and pieces lying around, so pick whatever and glue in the center. Glue a clip to the back. Finished!

Branching out into new areas!

I am going to start adding posts about how to style uniforms! My daughter is going to a school with uniforms and I thought it would be fun to dive into. A lot of times when we think of uniforms, it's dreaded because, how can you possibly add style and uniqueness to this?! It is possible, and I have found the process really fun! Not to mention, I think she looks absolutely adorable! Could be biased. I can't wait to get my daughter dressed every morning in another outfit haha, wish I felt the same way about getting myself dressed. Anyway, so we'll start from her first day, included in these posts will also be ways to style hair.

I bought this button up navy blue dress on Zulily. It has a collar on it so you don't have to worry about layering. Give it a pop of color with red tights and finished off with sparkle blue shoes. Our girls have to have sparkle on them at all times!

The details in the tights add TEXTURE!!

I just love the detail on the sleeves.

Here's what our kitchen looked like when we moved in!

Now we finally have it finished!!!! So Happy! We refinished the cabinets and added trim and bead board. We added trim to the island and I painted & distressed it. We did new counter tops and a back splash. My favorite part though is the sink! because I was without hot water in my kitchen for about 3 months so it was sooo exciting to have hot water again!

Toy Room Reveal!

Here is the Toy Room Before:

Tada! I'm so excited about how it turned out! I love the colors and different prints.

There is a dress up corner, this is probably their favorite spot.

If you can't tell I even painted the lamp green so it would match :). I wanted there to be different aspects of playing: so there is a craft area where we can hang their art and a chalkboard. They have their pretending area with toys, and then my favorite part...

The reading nook. Its fun to snuggle together on the bed and read books together, plus it gives an extra bed for when company stays.

The part that tied it all together was the pictures on the wall, at first everything was kid level which created a straight line all around, once I added the pictures it draws your eyes up. I got the rug at rugsusa.com (I loved the print of it but when I got it the texture is really rough, I was I had gotten a softer rug), the material for the bed I got at Johann's Fabric, Fabric totes I bought some at Walmart and some on Amazon. Pillows on the bed came from Johanns Fabric, Amazon, and Walmart. The cute hamper I used to hold the stuffed animals I found at Walmart.

Painting a Striped Wall

I am so happy I did this striped wall in the toy room! It made the room feel brighter and bigger! It was pretty simple and only took a few hours to complete. These tips helped to make a pretty fool proof way to paint without getting drips.

Supplies I used was painters tape from 3M, the thicker size I think is better and it took a full roll plus a little bit more so it'd be best to buy 2 of them, I had to use a thinner size because it's what I had after I ran out. You will need a paint brush and a small roller. I used a roller with a semi smooth surface. Paint, if you want to go cheap just know it is better to buy a smaller can of the more expensive paint that has the primer included because the cheap walmart brand will have you putting on coat after coat! Trust me it is way more worth it to get like the Behr brand instead with the primer in the paint. pencil for marking, a level, measuring tape.

Step #1
You want to measure your wall in inches then divide that by 7, it's best to do lines in an odd number plus it makes it so you don't have to paint around the ceiling or floor. After I divided by 7 my number was like 13.14, so keep it simple and do 13" stripes, it leaves the lower one a little bigger but it isn't even noticeable. Use a pencil and your level to make sure your line stays straight. After you get your lines penciled on all the way across then tape, make sure you tape on the outside of your pencil mark so your paint lines are the full 13" or whatever you have in inches. also go outside your pencil line a little bit so the paint will cover it up. smooth the tape down completely.

#2 using a brush paint along edges and corners with a thin amount of paint and focus on painting towards the center of the stripe so you don't push the paint into the tape. You're going to start working in sections, so lets call the stripes your painting stripe 1-3. 1 being the 2nd stripe from the top of the ceiling. "Cut in" or paint along the tape in stripe #1. Then roll the paint onto stripe #1.

#3 move to stripe #2 and cut in and roll the paint. Go back to Stripe #1 and roll another coat- if it looks solidly colored then take the tape off of stripe #1. Cut in Stripe #3 and roll with paint. Roll another coat on stripe #2. Pull tape off of stripe #2. Paint another coat on stripe #3 and remove tape.

If your stripes need more coats than 2 then work it in, the goal is to remove the tape before the paint dries. If your paint is still wet the tape will remove without peeling your paint...however if it has dried then you will be doing a lot of touching up! So save yourself the heartache and remove the tape before it has dried. I had company come in the middle of painting stripe #2 & #3 so I ended up having a little bit of peeling on stripe 3 because it had already started to dry.

Tadaa!! Your stripes are finished and fabulous! Continue checking back for the makeover of the toy room reveal!

Piano and Toy Room Remodel

So it has been FOREVER since I have posted in Craze Texture! Craze Texture covers all sorts of textures including furniture remodeling and in this feature, home remodeling. I'm going to take you through my Toy Room Makeover. It might take a bit because I'm also working on some furniture remodeling at the moment. Speaking of which here is a piano I just finished...

Before: This was a sad piano experiencing who knows what to take off the front...anyway it needed some TLC

My hubby helped by adding trim and bead board. Next I primed all of the surfaces.

Continuing on I painted a red coat twice to make sure it was covered. Then I applied black paint/ water mixture to glaze, the ratio was probably about 3/4 black paint to 1/4 water. Paint it on then have a rag handy to wipe off.

To really add some depth I then antiqued in all of the edges and cracks with more black paint- this time the black paint was not watered down. Also have a rag handy so you can have it be distressed just how you want.

Last step is to apply a top coat. I loved how it turned out!

Anyway so now I'm onto getting a cute toy room that will enhance learning and play, that will also be fun if we have boys over to play, because right now with my two girls its completely pink and purple princess everywhere! Now I'm having another girl...so needless to say when my friends with boys come over they are sometimes bored. So it will still be girly but also kind of neutral. Here's what I'm starting with so stay tuned for the process :)

No-Sew Pumpkin Tutu How-To

First start with an orange ribbon the length that you need to go around the waist, leaving room to be able to tie a bow to hold it on. I tied each end to a table so its easier to tie the tulle.

Cut orange tulle the length that you want, for my newborn my pieces were about 6 inches, tie knots along the ribbon.

Once you have the orange tulle the length that you need tied onto your ribbon get green tulle. Tie one end of the green tulle to the end of your skirt, then wrap the green tulle around the ribbon until you get to the end of the skirt and tie a knot.

Here's the end result! I'll have to post pictures of my daughter wearing it! Good Luck!

2 strand Updo

Sorry everyone! I've been gone the past couple of weeks so I haven't been able to post. For this style I just have pictures of what I did & I'll try to give the best explanation possible, but don't let this deter you because this was super easy! Plus messy styles give lots of leeway for mistakes :)

I actually just wore this in my hair the first day & kept my hair all down & straight, the first hair tye I backcombed first then just put in the elastic, next section pick up more hair and put in elastic, i did it slightly going back & down at an angle doing 4 total.

Braid the strand that is left out from the elastics. & bobby pin back.

using the 2 strand Braid, seperate remaing hair into 3 big sections and braid each section into a 2 strand Braid, you can add into the Braid like I did above or to keep it simple just simply braid the section. Once the Braid goes all the way to your ends roll up the braid & secure with bobby pins, if you have pieces that stick out thats okay.

Do this same thing, Braid & swirl, roll up the braid and bobby pin Backcomb left out pieces.

Hairspray & you're ready to go! I especially love Redken's 12 hold!

Valentine Garland

1) Cut out your hearts out of old book pages and cute valentine paper- or even just red & pink
2) Cut your yarn or string that you want your hearts to be on.
3) glue 3 hearts together with the string in the middle.
4) Continue til your heart garland is the length you desire.

My Sister gave me this idea while I was in Texas visiting her :), she's so creative! I did this the next day after the pincurls, but you can do it really wether your hair is straight or curly.

Pin Curls

Back in the olden days they used pincurls so their hair could be curly since they didn't have heat products. However, today Pincurls are great to do if; 1) Your hair doesn't hold curl, 2) Your hair is damaged & needs a gentle style 3) You are wanting something different & cute!

Whenever I'm in a humid area this is the only thing that gives me curls that don't end up going frizzy!

They do take some practice, so the first time you do them, make sure you don't have anything important to go to that night or next day :) Once you get down your technique then its a breeze! I can have my whole head set in 10 mins.

TIPS:

The bigger your section the longer it will take to dry.
Always smooth the section with a comb before rolling.
If you will be sleeping, use flat pincurls on the sides & back.
Place the curls how you would like them to fall, if you want them to curl toward your face then roll them that way, act like you are using the curling iron.

Mirror Makeover

This Mirror blended into my tan walls too much, so I decided to use the Gel Stain on it to see what would happen! Tape off the mirror then using a small brush I painted all the spots I wanted brown, sounds like tedious work but the cool thing was is that I would use a cloth & wipe over the edges to remove the stain from the gold parts!

6 Facial Masques for Dry to Sensitive Skin!

6 Different Facial Masques!

1) Rejuvinating Pumpkin Masque (all skin types)

Ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh pumpkin pulp
2 eggs
2 teaspoon almond milk (for dry or combo skin)
1 teaspoon honey (for dry skin)
2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice (if you have oily skin)

Preparation:

Purée the fresh pumpkin pulp into a thick paste. Add the egg (this acts as a binder). If your skin is dry, stir in a splash of omega-rich almond milk and the honey. For oilier complexions, instead stir in apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice. Mix well. Apply the mask, leaving it on for 15-20 minutes, depending on your skin sensitivity. Rinse with cool water and moisturize as usual.

2)Banana Masque for Oily Skin

Ingredients:

1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer. Let it thaw before using)
1 tbsp honey
An orange or a lemon

Preparation:

Mix the banana and honey together.
Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon.
Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.

3) Moisturizing Masque for Dry Skin

Ingredients:

½ avocado
¼ cup honey

Preparation:

A classic recipe for dry skin. Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey.
Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes.
Rinse face with a cool washcloth.

4) Brown Sugar Exfoliant Masque

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tsp (more or less, add drops if you need them) of olive oil or extra virgin coconut oil

Preparation:

Put the brown sugar in your palm
Add the olive or coconut oil
Stir in your palm with your finger, creating a paste.
Add or less as needed
Massage into skin in a circular motion.
Rinse off with warm water.
Press a warm washcloth into face.
Slather your skin in your favorite moisturizer or follow with a moisturizing mask.

5) Rose Masque for Combination Skin

Ingredients:

Optional: 6 fresh rose petals
2 tbsps rosewater
1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not lowfat or non-fat)
1 tbsp runny honey (to get honey runny, you can warm it in a microwave for a few seconds).

Preparation:

Soak rose petals, then crush them in a bowl.
Add the rosewater, yogurt and honey.
Mix well and apply to the skin.
Leave on for 10 minutes.
Rinse.

6) Yogurt Masque for Sensitive Skin

Ingredients:

1 cup natural yogurt (we like it just-out-of-the-fridge cold and I love the brand Fage's "Total" pictured here, because it's creamy and thick)
½ cup oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works here)

Preparation:

Mix the ingredients together.
Apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes.
Wash off mask with a washcloth steamed in the microwave (careful that it's not too hot). Two other fun options for oatmeal face masks:
Egg whites. Mix the oatmeal and an egg white. Let the mixture dry on face, then gently wash off with a few splashes of warm water. Follow with a steaming washcloth to the face.

3 Foot Soak Recipes

On the 3rd Day of Christmas, Craze Texture brought to me, 3 Recipes for amazing Foot Soaks!

Recipe #1

1 part Epsom salts
1 part Baking soda
drops of choice essential oils (optional)
Warm or Hot water, your preference

Chamomile Tea Soak: Recipe #2
4 bags chamomile tea
1/8 cup dried parsley
4 drops essential oil of choice

Steep ingredients in 1 gallon of hot water for 10 minutes before soaking feet.

Recipe #3

2 cups Kosher salt
1 cup Epsom salts
drops essential oil of choice (optional)
Warm or Hot water, your preference
