Robots in (Pretty Weak) Disguise: Optimus Prime Head USB Speakers

In case you didn’t know, there’s a new Transformers movie out I think. Here’s an Optimus Prime head that’s also a set of speakers. The robot hero “transforms” by folding his ears or helmet side flaps or whatever those things are out to reveal the speakers. The 3.8 lb speaker head is powered by USB. It looks pretty cool when the helmet’s all closed up but when you actually want to use the speakers it looks pretty stupid.

Multi-Head Portable Above Ground Sprinkler

Everybody wants to have a lush green lawn for the summer, one you can walk around on barefoot or play sports with your buddies or friends. I don’t have to tell you that the key to a great lawn and garden is irrigation. The advantages of an in-ground sprinkler are great- it directs water to the all areas of your lawn. Above-ground sprinklers usually have to be moved halfway through to enable full coverage. Not so with the awesome new Multi-Head Portable Sprinkler, a multi-head above-ground sprinkler.

This portable sprinkler has all the benefits of an underground sprinkler system plus more. The 18′ hose has three in-line sprinkler heads with five spray settings (each head is independently adjustable too). Icon Socket: An Interesting Round Design Flat Power Strip

The Icon Socket is an attractively designed round power strip with a giant plug logo on the front. It can accept up to four devices plugged in (2 pronged only though- none of your fancy 3 pronged gizmos need apply) at once. The Icon Socket has it’s own 7 foot long power cord to plug in, so it’s ideal if you need to have a power strip exposed on your floor or desk frequently and want a good looking alternative to the ugly bulky standard power strip.

The back of the Icon Socket has a magnet, so you can attach it to the wall or any magnetic surface like a steel desk or fridge. Why you’d need a power strip on your fridge, I don’t know, but you could do it that’s what’s important here. It comes in white, black, or gray and costs 3000 yen (about $30). Nice.

Knitter Please…Wind Powered Knitting Machine

Knitting is so boringly repetitious and requires so much manual labor to push that needle through the yarn and knit up your goodies. I say that as an observer since I’ve never actually knit anything in my life. So I guess technically I can only say that knitting is boring to watch. Maybe it’s tedious to do, I don’t know.

What I do know is that someone has put together a wind powered knitting machine which appears to be producing the world’s longest scarf. The wind turns the turbine which runs the needle through the yarn. It actually requires someone to come in and occasionally cut off a human length scarf piece and neaten up the edge but it’s mostly automatic. Speed depends upon wind speed. That’s some green knitting for ya.

Monty Python in your Pocket

Call me a witch but I’ve never been a huge fan of the classic comedy troupe Monty Python. Ni, for those of you who are, now you can take these British funnymen with you at all times with the Monty Python In Your Pocket Talking Key Chain. This pocket python speaks 7 famed MP phrases:

I don’t think there’s a punchline scheduled, is there?

Michael Jackson Thriller Headphones

These headphones were created well before the untimely death of pop superstar legend Michael Jackson but now is clearly an appropriate time to post them here. Thriller Headphones might just draw a few stares if you wear them out in public. Decorated with graveyard imagery with zombies and tombstones and that wolf from the extended music video to Thriller, they’re almost like an MJ diorama of sorts. These were designed for a headphone contest sponsored b Nokia but you could probably make your own version of these funky headphones with some plastic figurines (maybe from a model train set or something like that?) and some glue.

Winnie the Pooh Cell Phone

Cell phones come in all sorts of shapes and sizes these days but this is certainly one of the more unusual ones I’ve seen- it’s a
Winnie the Pooh shaped phone. The cute bear opens up in a clamshell manner to reveal the buttons and screen.

Pooh is a dual sim card capable bear phone with a 2 inch display screen. Winnie can play MP3 and MP4’s, has 1.3MP camera for taking pictures of favorite honey spots, FM radio to listen out for any Tigger spottings, GPRS, double (tiny) speakers, and bluetooth so he can synch up with Christopher Robin’s computer (obviously Winnie the Pooh doesn’t own his own computer- obviously). I highly highly doubt that this is an official Disney licensed phone. Did you know…you can see the original stuffed teddy bear that inspired Pooh Bear? It’s on display in New York City’s public library (main branch on 42nd).

Bottle Clip Attaches a Water Bottle to your Bicycle Frame

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. The bottle clip is a simple design concept for attaching a water bottle to a bicycle frame. It eliminates the need for a bulky water bottle carrier that will only fit specific size plastic squeeze water bottles. The Bottle Clip should fit on any regular sized bike frame and it has a threaded underside that will fit the top of any standard water bottle (or soda if you really wanted to get a little wild).

Obviously this wasn’t made for a professional cyclist as I could see the sloshing water from a half filled bottle creating an unbalanced pendulum effect but the Bottle Clip was designed by Matthias Ries to be an inexpensive bottle holder for the more casual biker. It’s just a concept right now, but I think this would be a very simple one to execute and produce (and if something similar already exists, please let me know in the comments!)

Space Invaders and Pac-Man Mini Cooper Art Cars

I love art cars! I’ve always wanted to paint up my car with a cool design but with my artistic skills it would look like something a drunk 3rd grader would draw. I see tons of these BMW made Mini Coopers on the streets near where I live- there are very few garages or driveways so street parking is essential and the little Minis can fit into spots that most other cars are forced to pass by. But I’ve never seen Mini’s as cool as these two!

Holy geekalicious automobile Batman! Pac-man and Space Invaders, ftw! Designed by Matt W. Moore, I would love to drive around in one these geek art cars. Plus if the car ever gets stolen, it will be real easy to identify- “we need an APB on a black Mini Cooper with a gigantic Pac-Man graphic on the side”. “We’ve found your car sir, it’s over near the comic book store on Maple St.”.
