Talk about extreme sports! These adrenalin-starved “extreme kayakers” paddled down a breathtaking 300ft spillway at one of Wales’ biggest resevoirs.

The extreme sports pair reached speeds of 45mph as they sped down the 1:3 gradient of the Llyn Brianne Reservoir’s concrete overspill run. 

Everyone has seen the dramatic photos and movies of extreme skiers jumping off cliffs.  Where did this adrenalin rushing sport begin? The history of extreme skiing is depicted in the movie “Steep” by Director Mark Obenhaus where he documents the history of big-mountain skiing, by mixing archival footage, interviews and a fresh footage of beautiful powder snow skiing.

"Steep" documents extreme skiing the way "Riding Giants" did surfing and "Dogtown and Z Boys" did skateboarding.

"There's a wonderful tale in how a band of skiers left the confines of the resort and went into the back country and invented a sport," Obenhaus said. "What to me said we could make a film about it is when we found there was a beginning."

The beginning of extreme skiing for Obenhaus was in 1971, when an unknown skier named Bill Briggs climbed alone to the summit of Grand Teton, above Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and skied 6,000 feet to its base in an epic, five-hour descent. No film footage of the feat exists - only a handful of aerial photographs, taken the day after, show Briggs' tracks and prove his tale. 

From there, "Steep" travels to Chamonix, France, where "The Blizzard of Ahhhs" directed by Greg Stump made Glen Plake a legend. The film’s broadcast to the American audience awakened Americans to what was going on and created an appetite for extreme skiing," Obenhaus said.

Next, “Steep” follows Doug Coombs to Alaska, where unique conditions make unbelievably steep terrain skiable, and where Coombs created a new Mecca for heli-skiing. Coombs died in a skiing accident in La Grave, France, in 2006, not long after Obenhaus interviewed him.

"It's very clear in the film that there are sacrifices, huge sacrifices, in this sport," Obenhaus said.

This is a great extreme sports video!  It is a compilation of  BMX, Street, Parkour, Free Run, Jump, snow mobile and snowboard.  I want to know what happened to the snow mobile after the guy went over the cliff and he came down with a parachute!  Sounds expensive to me!

9. Adam Eaton was impatient in opening a DVD and couldn’t get the plastic off so he got his knife out, it slipped and oops-he ended up stabbing himself in the stomach.

8. Paulo Diogo, of Servette FC tries to prove why men don’t wear wedding rings to work. Diogo was celebrating an assisted goal and he climbed a fence. As he got down his ring got stuck and here comes his sports injury- he left most of his finger on the fence. Is this a good excuse?

This is not all.  He had the Olympics log tattooed onto his chest and belly. Made to look like Chinese calligraphy, symbols of various Olympic sporting events dance over his back and arms.  And that’s still not it.

He had five Olympic rings carved onto and colored into his crew cut.The same image consultant that did his tattoos also designed his hair which has needed a touch-up every 7-10 days.  All along the way he found volunteers willing to do the touch-ups for free.

He doesn’t care if his girlfriend likes the look or not because he is says that 'he is married to the Olympics.'

Michael Phelps, 23 is aiming towards 8 gold medals in swimming at the Beijing Olympics. If he accomplishes this he will have beaten the Olympic record of Mark Spitz who won 7 golds at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia he became the youngest male Olympian since 1932, at the age of 15. In 2004 he was named swimmer of the year for the third time. In 2004 he became the first athlete to ever win 8 medals (6 gold) at a non-boycotted Olympic games. In 2007, Phelps became the athlete winning the most World Championships ever, by setting individual world records and his 7 gold medals.

Phelps is moving on towards his goal.  He won his first gold at the Beijing Olympics on Sunday morning in the 400 meter IM. Only 7 more golds to go.
