We wanted to provide a WordPress Update for the development work we’ve been doing recently…

Proud to announce several corporate and business websites making entrance to the social networking environment. We have also been working on many other things…see one of our recent business websites

So the Quick List of Our Recent Web Development Pursuits

Business Websites -

We’ve been lucky to have progressive business clients with progressive ideas and a sense for graphic nature! Here is an example of a Graphic Display Design Firm’s website we’ve built recently.

Social Networking Community Websites - We have proudly been building on BuddyPress and are excited about the future! Here is an example of a Social Networking Website built on BuddyPress.

eCommerce and Back End Partner Systems -

We’ve been focusing quite a bit of attention to this lately.

WordPress Tech -

We continue to repair and provide support for people who have existing blogs needing help and do this constantly.

That’s pretty much the update. Upward Momentum!

Very pleased to announce much success with a new Wordpress eCommerce plugin, WP e-Commerce. In development for a client, we found this e-commerce plugin script to be very highly configurable and the Wordpress shopping cart to be smooth and easy!

Offering a merge to PayPal for business or regular PayPal, the plugin offers an interactive shopping cart, product photos, product descriptions, the ability to easily place specials on the homepage, a way to keep track of stock as it gets sold, a full exportable sales log file, search engine friendly urls and categories and much, much more! See the WP e-Commerce site we’ve developed here.

PayPal Shopping Cart for Wordpress

Now installing this PayPal Shopping Cart for Wordpress was not without complication. There was some alteration necessary for clean, easy to use function. There is an active support forum for this, however, which made it easier. It is a nicer, easier way to approach using WP to sell products on the internet versus having to use custom fields and linking to a PayPal checkout for Wordpress.

I have experienced similar problems using Wishlist Member and ClickBank.

What I found was that a one hour "lock" applies i.e.

- Registration 1 is ok

- Registration 2 an hour or more after Registration 1 and all is ok.

- Registration 2 in less than an hour -> 404
Reload the 404 page after an hour -> registration completes

I have reported these problems to WLM support but do not have a fix yet. I am assuming that the one hour lock applies on an ip basis (my testing is on one ip, as is yours presumably) but I do not know this for sure as I haven't yet tested it with a registration in under an hour using a different ip address.

If the one hour lock out applies even for registrations via different ips then the WLM is not fit for use.

What I also found was that if a registration was part entered into the DB e.g. back from payment processor ok, but username and password step not completed, this caused ALL subsequent registration attempts to 404, regardless of ip.

As registrations can fail to complete for any number of reasons in the real world, this is also a severe problem, rendering...

The full text post for WPMU Installation Problems is located here

In the installation process this week for a client…encountered some little tips that might help the installation process go a little bit easier for you.

No WPMU Website Defined on This Host

Firstly, a very common error message is No WPMU Website Defined on this Host. Unfortunately, the codex is not completely clear on the fact that the MU autoinstaller has a function built into that created a wp-config file. Even though the distribution package comes with a wp-config-sample.php as regular Wordpress does, it is not the same installation process to change the parameters in this file and rename it. The same thing goes for the .htaccess file. There is a .htaccess.dist that comes with the package. Although both of these files are in the zip or tar.gz package, neither is actually utilized. That’s right…you should have neither file, wp-config.php or an .htaccess file, these will be autocreated by the install. You will be guided through entering your SQL details, logins, user, database, etc.

Installing WPMU in Root Directory

You might find that there are some issues with your host and the autoinstaller when attempting installing WPMU in the Root Directory. The codex and searches don’t provide a ton of information on this. Since the write properties of the directory that contain the WPMU files must be writeable, there are some issues with write permissions being blocked out and prohibited from change to allow for the write access. This is the only way for the WPMU auto-install to work. The easiest solution, obviously, if you encounter this, which you likely will, is to install MU in a directory, which can easily be changed in most cases for permissions via FTP. Still looking for a good solution for installing WPMU in the root directory. This had been done on a project, but it has been several years, so the notes seemed to have vanished. It did work fine when installed in a directory however, which worked fine for the clients application due to the need for ability to enhance the main design of the site quite a bit which might be more limited with Multi-User.

I do have the radio-button Sub-directories checked.

I can not use the mydomain.org in the domain field since that is our main server, and we have a lot of sub domains is use.

how could I make it work?

If you're up to coding the php and html directly, you could create a "master pages" directory (e.g. WPMU/wp-content/masterpages) and store the php files for them in there.

Then using something like the blog defaults plug-in, you set all new blogs to automatically have pages created where the content is a simple function command e.g.
[masterpage]document-1[/masterpage]

You then need to write a WP function into the theme or site functions file which basically says (this is NOT correct code - I'm not a programmer) ....

function.masterpages
if exists(function.masterpage()){
$document-name = 'document-name';
include $BLOG_URL . WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/masterpages/" . $document-name . ".php";
}

Then the content from your master document will appear on the page you auto-include for each blog in the blog defaults plugin settings.

Hopefully a coder will pop along to insert the correct code to run that function? If I had time I could copy and paste from a similar function, but I'm a little pressed right now and actually looking for something completely different to your query.

Alternatively - a little trickier to manage this and upgrading WPMU WILL lose your custom content (I know because it did it to me a couple of hours ago), you...

Wildcard DNS, Subdirectory, WPMU Hosting

You will need to decide whether you want to utilize the subdirectory method or the folder option. The difference is how the new blog sites created by users are accessed once a user is done creating a blog with WPMU. Your host will have to activate Wildcard DNS should you wish the following type of address for a blog (if you have your own server, this article explains how to setup Wildcard DNS on Apache, otherwise, your host would do it):

musubdomain.domain.com

With a folder access installed in a separate directory, you would get something like this, which does not require the DNS Wildcard. Some hosts may not support this. The host, asmallorange.com which is listed on our Wordpress Hosting Page does.

Question...does this solve the issue with new blogs on subdomains not showing up?

I followed the instructions, but still having issues with new blogs giving 404 error. It only works if I add the subdomains manually in the hosting account and point them to the installation directory, but that seems to be a bit counterproductive.

To be perfectly honest, I am really getting tired of GoDaddy all together. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!!

You then need to write a WP function into the theme or site functions file which basically says (this is NOT correct code - I'm not a programmer) ....

function.masterpages
if exists(function.masterpage()){
$document-name = 'document-name';
include $BLOG_URL . WP_CONTENT_DIR . "/masterpages/" . $document-name . ".php";
}

The Revolution is Here! Check Out the Revolution Wordpress Themes.

The Revolution Wordpress Themes are very powerful themes. They include a grouping of editable php files to customize. Configuring these templates is not easy, but can be well worth it for someone with above average technical ability…or a website owner who has access to technical support for customizing web themes and blog templates.

The Revolution City Template features a tabbed image function that lets you cycle through 6 different pictures utilizing a Flickr plugin. Although a little cumbersome utilizing the custom fields option…it will import a picture into the home page of the blog or website so that it can be attached to summary text…which is similar to an excerpt…however…shorter. The sidebar support is pretty flexible as there is one master and two sub sidebars.

Revolution Sports is an older theme…however, nice. It uses a Post Limit Plugin to do what Revolution City does via the WP files…so this can cause technical issues swapping from theme to theme if you are working with multiples. Without customization, this template gives a more masculine look. We also found it to behave friendlier with Javascript.

These can cause problems for those who are not used to editing php files…but the designer does offer some tutorial videos which come in quite handy. All in all…these are highly configurable, which is very flexible. They are great for a news type site or magazine. Keep in mind that these are not free themes…they costs about $79.00 or come in multi-license packs…which the developer sells.

The other themes are Revolution News, Magazine, Real Estate, Revolution Pro Media and Revolution Tech.

We are happy to work with you on configuring and customizing the Revolution Themes or Working With You to Fix any Problems.
